Traveling over the weekend we stopped for some lunch. We were going to eat at In-N-Out but my husband saw Baja Fresh and wanted to eat there. After all, it HAS been years since we've been.... Such a mistake. It was not at all good like it used to be. The burrito didn't have that delicious melty cheese layer inside and it was stuffed/thrown together. :-/ My husband couldn't even pick it up to eat plus everything busted out of the tortilla. I had a few bites of it and it was just "meh". I opted for the taquitos because I didn't want to pay another $16 for a burrito for myself; I'm glad I didn't after seeing my husband's mess. The food was good, but the whole place was quite dirty. The servers were nice enough, and the food came quickly.

I stopped here on a road trip with zero expectations. I needed gas, ladies room and food. I was greeted with a warm smile and a tempting offer of tacos. After driving for 4 hours, that sounded perfect. I got 3 spicy chicken tacos on 5" corn tortillas. I also bought chips, salsa, and guacamole. My rating is WOW!!! My tacos were generously filled with chicken, onions, cilantro and grilled peppers. The chips were made fresh! The server even brought out more , hot!! The red salsa and guacamole and green salsa, great. I'm going to definitely stop here on my way back!! The atmosphere is just ok, it's at a gas station. Not too much can be expected on that circumstance. But the service and food way makes up for it. I recommend this place!! read more

When we walked in we were immediately greeted by a very friendly employee. We were the o ot ones in there at the time and the service was excellent. Our food was ready quickly so that was great. I'm only giving three stars though because the price for what we got seemed high. The steak was not very good and seemed a bit over cooked. The chips were good and the salsa was good. The pico seemed a little old. We asked for just shrimp and so he charged us for a shrimp taco which seemed fair but then we ended up ordering two more for a total of three tacos. Instead of charging us for the 3 taco meal they charged us for a two taco meal and then a single taco which was much more expensive. I was able to used a coupon from the app which was awesome but overall the food was not worth the cost. But someone should give the guy working there a raise because he was great. read more

Let me first say that I had an excellent experience here. My steak quesadilla came out flavorful and filling fulfilling my exact expectation for a rest stop baja fresh. Unfortunately, I can not say the same about the orders of my poor compatriots. My sisters veggie burrito bowl could best be described as a slimy mess of sour cream, salsa, and "odd-tasting" veggies. My mom and step-dad's "steak" burrito had chicken in it in lieu of the more expensive option they had paid for. The bathrooms were out of service, and the wait was a bit exaggerated for how busy it was. Main reccomendation here: DONT GET THE BURRITO BOWL, instead stick with the safe quesadilla option and you'll have a good time. Happy driving! read more

This was my first time ever trying Baja Fresh and I was totally disappointed. I would imagine this restaurant to be always busy and have fresh food because it is one of the only options in Kettleman City. I came with Baja Fresh veterans and they were dissatisfied with their food as well. I ordered an ultimo burrito with chicken and it was $9! Not worth it at all. All of our burritos were lukewarm at best and the meat and veggies burnt. It was as if they just left all of the stuff on the grill for hours. One of my friends' burrito was completely cold and the tortilla looked like it came straight out of the bag. The cheese wasnt melted and the shreds were just falling out. She took her burrito up to one of the employees and they just said that some tortillas are in the warmer for longer than others. They didnt even offer to warm it up or make her a new one. The restaurant itself wasnt the cleanest, but strangely smelled strongly of cleaners...not appetizing at all. Also, one of the employees was wearing plastic food service gloves, but her long acrylic nails had ripped through the gloves. This seems like a major health code violation. Place was next to a gas station and needed gas for the car. Place was clean and easy to find. We decided to hit this place to eat since its better than Taco Bell. Everything was good and with good portions (gave lots of chips to fill the plate) but I still think its a little pricy. I am undecided if I can recommend this place as I have gone to more authentic Mexican restaurants which are much better and cheaper. This is more of an American chain. Alma who works here is beyond cool and gives this place 5 stars!!! I can't eat meat or onions and garlic for religious reasons and I'm vegan -- and all the food pretty much had onions and garlic. She made me a special and delicious salad for me so that they could still serve me. I am so appreciative !!!! Yes, Virginia, it is possible to eat healthy while out on the open road! You need not stop for burgers that come with deep fried sides - unless that's what floats your boat! I was in the middle of a road trip that started in Bakersfield and was headed towards San Francisco when I realized that in my haste to pack and get going I'd forgotten to eat... all day. I pulled off at the exit for Kettleman City expecting to grab a generic burger and get back on the road. And then I saw it. The Shell gas station on the right hand side of the road with signs advertising Quiznos and Baja Fresh. Baja Fresh? Isn't that a HEALTHY food place? What's that doing here at an exit more famous for unhealthy fast food? I parked in front of the Shell Food Mart and headed inside. The convenience store, Baja Fresh, and Quiznos all share the same building. The shared restrooms are in the convenience store. The line to order was not too long. The menu seems pretty comprehensive, though they may not offer everything another full service Baja Location might. There are six different types of burritos offered, including the bare burrito which comes in a bowl and which I chose. There are two different taco platters and two salads. Next, you choose your meat: chicken breast, steak, park carnitas, or veggies. You can add on salsas, guacamole, or sour cream. They also have a separate a la carte menu to choose from. I choose a bare burrito (bowl) with park carnitas and hot salsa - lots of hot salsa. A large drink is only $0.20 cents more than a medium drink, $2.09 vs $1.89 but you get a sturdy reusable plastic cup, so I thought why not. The fountain gives you the diet soda options of Diet Coke or Coke Zero. How is that a choice? There are also four different varieties of ice tea. I took my bare burrito to eat on the go driving down the freeway and it wasn't as awkward as I would have thought. It was fresh, pretty tasty, and the pork was moist and not overly chewy. The plate was perfectly sized to sit on my lap and catch any spills so I managed not to get any of my lunch on me. Bonus. The workers were friendly yet efficient, and the restaurant was clean and there were tables available. I'd definitely stop here again while I'm on the road. read more
