This is one of the best restaurants in Germantown, MD. There are few good places to eat in this suburb of 90,000 people. Nevertheless, I like this place. It's legit Tex Mex. The free chips and salsa are as good as it gets and better than most. Their guacamole is good too. Luckily, they bring the food out in less than 10 minutes after you order so you don't have time to fill up on the chips & salsa. But, I still manage to woof down a whole bowl of chips and a cup of salsa. I normally like to try everything on the menu and get something different each visit. After numerous visits here, I've usually get the two beef enchiladas with salsa verde because it's my favorite. I am able to finish it all and be totally stuffed for only $13. I only have a few words to say about this place: fast lunch and good service. These are the key differentiators from the Mi Rancho in Rockville (which I give a 1*). The food is your average Mexican fare from an average Mexican restaurant. The pricing is reasonable with most dishes averaging 10-12$. The service is consistently very friendly and attentive, and while it's a large and popular restaurant, I've never found it to be too noisy. I go there often with my family, and even the pickiest of us finds several tantalizing dishes. Me - I always go for the vegetable fajitas. Simple but delicious, and pretty nutritious. My parents like the beef burritos, and we all enjoy the fried ice cream for dessert. They always have fresh chips - emphasis on fresh - and salsa ready when you sit down, and their tortillas are also made fresh and in-house (fresh tortillas make all the difference). I have been to this Mi Rancho for many years. Never thought about writing a review, but since I have written over 3 hundred the past year, why not review this fine place. The parking is ok, not a lot and people don't really park well, but there is ample parking. There is outdoor seating, but when it's cold or rainy it's closed. The environment is family friendly as the bar area is 4 stools at bar and a few tables off to the left as you walk in. The place is bright, music lightly playing. The seating is hit or miss and with few walls, one loud kid can ruin the night; of course so can one loud party and it is Germantown so you are bound to run into a kid or a loud party. The service is always friendly, and efficient. The food is always hot and nothing is ever bad. The prices inch towards the higher side, but such is life any more. As they are one of only two Mexican places in the area, its a good choice when you need a fix (and NO Taco Bell doesn't count as Mexican food.) All in all a quality 3 start experience. It won't set the world on fire but it won't disappoint. read more

We ate at Mi Ranco with small children twice in April of 2018. Both times we had good food and friendly service. I had the cheese enchiladas. I appreciated that you could order vegetables on the side, which didn't mean the typical grilled bell peppers from the Fajita prep, but an actual assortment of vegetables that were not over-cooked and had interesting seasonings. This hurts me to my heart. I absolutely LOVE this neighborhood restaurant. Prior to the pandemic I used to go here often. They had the absolute best food (not to mention delicious margaritas; oohh and chips). I also tried to help out during the height of the pandemic with carry out (but it's not as good if you don't eat it within a few minutes). Anyway, in the spring, I started going back and each time the quality gets worse. I am so so sorry to say this as the owner/manager/staff are terrific and I know from conversations with them it has been hard to keep good cooks. BUT, this last visit was so very disappointing. They've changed my absolutely favorite platter (Mi Rancho platter) which perhaps it's because some things are hard to get right now--not happy, but ok. What prompted this latest review (I know I've written one before, I just can't find it to update it) is the taste. It simply isn't very good and OMG the amount of salt! I actually couldn't eat some of it. Gosh, this really hurts, but I feel it's fair to report what's happening. I'm going to give them a pass for a few months and hopefully they'll get it together. There is absolutely no reason that on a Sunday afternoon, with a reservation, and with less than 50% capacity, we should have to wait more than 90 minutes for our meal. There were a number of tables that arrived after us that were served their meals and left before we were served. My family has been frequenting this restaurant for several years. Unfortunately, this was our last. We were there for dinner two weeks ago. The hostess sat us in a booth by the window in the back of the restaurant. My son noticed an ant crawling on the window sill, then my wife saw one and then more. We went up to the hostess stand to let her know and request another table. The manager rushed by us and blurted "I heard you saw ants?" without stopping. That was the last we ever heard of him. He never stopped by to apologize. It was downhill from there. Service was spotty. My beer didn't come until I was halfway through my meal. My wife asked for lettuce with the fajitas we were splitting and they brought a tiny plate of lettuce. We will not be returning. read more

The place was super clean and the service was very quick. I got a chicken enchilada and the chicken was a little dry but still good. I came after lunch and before dinner whilst there was little traffic and ordered the Grande? Fajita Combo platter which came with shrimp, ribs, steak and chicken. This was the best such platter I've had in a good while. The steak was proper skirt steak, very tender and well-marinated. It was not chewy at all. The shrimp and chicken were not overcooked. The ribs were a nice balance between sweet and savory and slightly spicy. Fajita platters are probably the most common dish ordered at Tex Mex restaurants and too often done without care or badly. Blah. Not sure what was the reason for the positive reviews. The salsa had a weird after taste with no jalepenos. The chips was fried in used oil, it had a strange flavor to it. The hard taco came out soggy from sitting on the rice. The enchiladas were soggy with again the same after taste from salsa. The chicken in the enchilada was so shredded it almost looked like something out of a can. The side of sour cream was put on top of the side of salad so the sour cream became the salad dressing. The beans tasted like pork and beans without the Pork. Maybe they used the pork in my Tamale. The pork in the tamale was again shredded as if it came out of a can. Overall very disappointed. My husband and I was indeed craving for some Mexican. Living in San Diego all of our lives, we have always had access to great Mexican 24/7. There's nothing like that over here at all =[ . We were told to try out Mi Rancho, so we did. I ordered the Plato Maria and my husband ordered a plate similar to mine (I forgot what it was called but it began with a J). Our plates included a pork tamale, beef enchiladas, he had a taco while I had a al carbon taco. My plate also came with a chile cheese rilano. The food we ordered was ok. It was nothing to be amazed by to be honest. The tamales was descent and the enchiladas/tacos wasn't satisfying our Mexican taste buds. Not to mention the menu pricing was a bit high for such a mediocre menu. Nothing on there was considered gourmet items to be charged $13-20 unless it was under the seafood portion. Over all we were not satisfied and we probably will not be coming back anytime soon. Though the service we had was good. So kudos to that. read more

We went there last night for the first time. There was a 10 minute wait, but they were fast in getting us seated. The hostess was a bit out of it and didn't have much control over the seating process - you couldn't hear her and then when our table was ready she said to go seat ourselves while she didn't leave her station!? I had a lunch with some friends before the ACC Soccer finales, and one of them recommended we meet up here. Mi Rancho offers chain type latin american food, nothing spectacular, but hardly better than a Taco Bell honestly. Service here was friendly and efficient, not moments after we were seated we had chips and bowls of salsa presented. The Salsa seemed like it was out of a jar, and lacked any sort of fresh cilantro taste that you get with fresh, chunky salsa, not a mild tomato puree. Their Lunch menu was nothing like what was listed on their website, so I don't know if they changed menus and haven't uploaded it or if something else has changed. I was disappointed, as I was interested in the Grande Plato; however I went with the Flautas as those are usually a pretty safe bet. The food came out quickly, however while hot in temperature, it was all pretty bland in flavor. So, not the worst Tex-Mex restaurant, however with so many better options in the area, I'd definitely say to try something else for a more authentic experience first. read more

Mi Rancho is YUMMY!! I love their food it seems to be one of the only places I can get chimichangas (for some reason those are hard to find). But my favorite thing about this place is their margaritas. The literally blend the fruit in with the mix rather than using syrup flavored like peaches or strawberries. The outside patio is nice on really nice days. I have never had a negative experience here. And a pitcher or margaritas is only $25 and when you pan it out means the drinks are approximately $4 each considering you get about 6 drinks total. read more

We did carry out for lunch from the Germantown location and I have to say the food traveled well! The chips were awesome. Thin, crispy, lightly salted. The salsa is just OK. They;re hot sauce is also goo! I ordered cheese enchiladas. The sauce was a little bland, BUT over all the amount of REAL cheese in it made up for it. Their tortillas are delicious. The food left me full and satisfied. The only thing you should skip is the veggie quesadilla. It has broccoli, squash, and other random vegetables in it. We did not order it but asked about the included veggies. I'm just traveling through town but I'm glad I tried it. My co-worker who lived in the area decided it would be their new go-to place. Went to lunch here on 7/5 with my wife. I had beef Fajita's, and the wife had Veggie Fajita's with Beef added. We've been to all of the Mi Rancho locations, Have had good experiences at each. This was first time trying the Fajita's. (I usually have the Cheese Enchilada's, and wife has the Taco salad with Beef added.. Both have usually been good, sometimes great). The Fajita's were amazing!! I highly recommend them. Complimentary chips and salsa were delicious, as usual. And the Melon Margarita's were perfect! Service was friendly, food didn't take very long.. Suitable is the word that comes to mind. I have been to Mi Rancho a number of times, and the food is fine, not great. If you are hungry and in the mood for Mexican it will do the trick. They have all your typical TexMex style food. They start you off with chips and salsa, neither are great. The salsa is too runny for my liking. The fajitas and enchiladas are serviceable, the tacos and tamales leave something to be desired. As has been said in previous reviews, everything lacks flavor. The beans and rice that are brought out with the entrees are completely forgettable. They have $25 pitchers of house margaritas that are also OK, not great (makes about 6 margaritas. The moral is - OK if you are in the area and need Mexican, but do not go out of the way. read more

We use to dine at the Silver Spring location, but the Germantown location is now the better one. Our go to here is the steak fajita platter for two and ceviche. One word: UNDERWHELMING Came here for lunch on a Saturday around 3pm. Salsa wasn't that great. Guacamole tasted strange (and I consider myself a connoisseur of the guac). Our order was incorrect and we got an eye roll when we asked super nicely for the rice and beans we were missing. Then, I ordered steak fajitas to go to bring home. Hello we went to Mi Rancho for lunch on Sunday 06/09/2019 with my family of 4. We all ordered there main courses costing between $20 to $25 dollars. The restaurant served below average portions in my entire families main course. The service was good, and the food tasted okay. The portions for the main courses where very small for $20 to $25 dollars main courses. This restaurant is not a good value for money. I would recommend restaurants like Moby Dick, and Piccu Peruvian across the street. Where you will get good value for money. You don't get a good value for money at Mi Rancho, but you do get a high check at the end. Will be the last time I go to Mi Rancho. read more
