Delicious sweet corn that comes with entree. A nice treat with your meal
    Leigh D.

Representing 2019, V is for Villa Maya. I visited twice once in July 2019 and once in latter part of 2020. My new girlfriend at that time & I were on a semi-long hike nearby on a very hot early evening. We were hungry and near here arriving maybe close to 8 PM. I enjoyed my usual choice a sit-down Mexican restaurant, enchiladas. This is better than Uncle Julio's (& less expensive), Guapo's, or others. Great enchiladas, beans, & rice. Service was good too. In addition to the usual entree, beans, & rice, you also get this delicious sweet corn-based treat, which adds to the great experience here. After we finished eating, it was dark outside, her legs (& mine too) were sore, so she paid for an Uber to get back to our parked cars in the park off Muncaster Mill Road.

Let me start with wow! I don't know how I never came across this place before. Located in Rockville, I think this place is amazing! The service and vibe feels like another fan favorite near Rio. The food was delicious! The complementary chips and salsa was awesome! The salsa was smokey, mild, with a slight sweet flavor. The crab nachos were got were amazing. They didn't skimp out on the crab meat and it was cheesy goodness! We were soo full we couldn't finish our entrees. We did try the salmon fajita and it was seasoned and delicious on a hot soft tortilla! We had a great time and expect to come back again!

Always his the spot! Saturday lunch with friends. Margaritas are cold, salsa & Pico are fresh with the chips. We had enchilada platter, Carne Asada & Burrito Bowl. So dee-lish! Mario is the top waiter, Oscar & Ever always nearby to help. If you aren't eating here, you're wrong.

Everything was 10/10! Even though there were quite a few people waiting, we were seated within 5 to 10 minutes. The service was great! All the servers were so nice and the food came out so quick despite how packed the restaurant was. The food was delicious and all the ingredients were great quality. We'll definitely be back!

New Year's Eve, and looked for a Mexican place we haven't been to yet. We found Villa Maya on Yelp as one of the top rated Mexican restaurants in the area. At around 7:00 pm, place was busy but we promptly got a table in the bar area. We were served a bowl of chips and salsa. The salsa was warm. We enjoyed both - the chips were crisp and fresh and the salsa had a nice flavor. Could the salsa have been more spicy? Yes. But a decent salsa. And the warmth was a nice touch. We ordered a small guac (there are two sizes) with medium heat (mild, medium and hot). Although prices for guac are not on the menu (it's marked as "market price"), the small was $8.95. A very fair price for a large portion (plenty for two and we took most home). There were nice bits of onion and tomato mixed in liberally with the avocado chunks. We found the medium to be a bit too mild - could have used some kick. Would recommend the hot. The menu said it would be made table side, but it wasn't. We also ordered margaritas- one regular lime and one lime skinny. Both were very good. We each ordered fajitas - I got the steak and shrimp combo and my partner got the carne asada. Healthy portions of both. My partner requested the steak be medium and it was prepared properly. Lots of cooked onions and some cooked peppers accompanying the meat. Really enjoyed the fajitas. Overall, good food and drinks. But a couple of points I need to share: First, the regular margarita was $8.95. The skinny (same size) was $12.95. For the life of me, I can't imagine how they justify an almost 50 percent premium for skinny. Second, although the initial service was fine, the kitchen brought out our fajita entrees and placed them on a tray several feet from our table in the middle of the bar area. They were sizzling and there was steam rising from the platters. Beautiful. And there they sat. And sat. And sat. People (including us) wondering what was going on and then the sizzling stopped and the steam stopped. And the platters sat and sat. Finally, I got up and served our table myself. The wait staff comes by two minutes later and doesn't say a word. We ask him to fill our empty water glasses (which shouldn't have been allowed to be empty) and our empty salsa. Nothing was ever said about it. No explanation and no apology. (Yes, I tipped 20 percent anyway.). Overall, the food was good but as I've said in other reviews of Mexican restaurants, I can't say there's a "Wow" factor here that compels me to come back. The guac was fine, but could have been spicier. Maybe that's my fault for getting medium instead of hot. On the other hand, having to watch my sizzling fajita tray stop sizzling and then having to get up and walk several feet to serve myself at a place where the meal including tip costs $100 is infuriating. Having a skinny margarita cost almost 50 percent more than a regular margarita seems like a ripoff. I was going to give four stars for the food taste and portion sizes, but now that I think about it, I'm pretty disappointed about the other stuff for a $100 meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And the restaurant was busy, but not at capacity. There were a couple of empty tables in the bar area when we were there[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]].

This place was hopping on a Thursday evening. Their chips are crispy and fresh (and dangerous because they are so good you will want to eat more and more). The chicken chimi, rice and beans were delicious and filling. The desserts looks great, but I was stuffed. I've been here several times and it's consistently great!

The restaurant is located next to Safeway in the center of a strip mall. No wait to be seated even though practically the whole restaurant was full on Father's Day. The service was prompt, efficient, and professional. Carly, our server, was superb. We ordered beef tacos and a bean burrito platter as well as a corn tamal and a nonalcoholic passionfruit beverage. Everything was hot and fresh and a great portion. The taco shells were a bit greasy and the passionfruit beverage was too sweet I had to water it down. The corn tamal came with a huge side of sour cream. The complimentary chips were good but the salsa was watery and piping hot, a combination I'm not used to. The ambiance was pleasant with interesting decor and a covered patio.

Finally! A Mexican restaurant that I really enjoyed! Coming in on cinco de mayo I expected the worst but got the best. The service was average but on this day I'll give a pass. The food was great with me pushing to finish the burrito. Other places I've finished out and still ready to eat more but this was one worthy of being an entree. The sides that came with it were great and just what it needed. Generous amount of salsa, sour cream and guacamole to go along with the burrito. The mariachi band kept everybody vibing with the day. Great time with some great food.

    Salmon relleno
    Christine R.

Villa Maya is a family favorite! I have been going for years and always enjoy myself. Last time, I got the salmon relleno. It could have used a bit more crab meat, but was still really good. The mashed potatoes were well seasoned, but the vegetables could've used a bit more. I have also had the seafood enchilada in the past and that's still a favorite. Margaritas as well :)

    James W.

Quaint Tex-Mex restaurant that has affordable prices but my biggest complaint is that their salsa and dishes needed more spice. Their enchilada plates had good portions, and they were kind enough to make substitutions. Please note that they have different lunch and dinner menus. I liked that they provide free chips and salsa, the interior of the restaurant is cozy and well-decorated, and all the servers were incredibly kind!

    Mango Mousse

My husband and I really wanted to like this place, but the food was bland. Also we ordered 2 mango mousse desserts which the waiter showed us a picture of. I said that looks really good with all the chunks of mango with it. It was $6.95 for a tiny peace of mousse and no mango chunk at all. I called the restaurant to tell them the problem and the manager said they don't actually put mango with it. I asked why it's in the picture and he had no explanation. I told him we felt cheated and he said nothing. OVER PRICED AND DISAPPOINTING!

    Crab quesadilla

We're always craving some solid tex! David and I decided to switch up our usual Uncle Julio's trip to check out Villa Maya. We had been eyeing it ever since we stopped by Ema Rossi which is in the same shopping center. First off, their menu is HUGE! You will not be out of options coming here. It made it pretty hard to decide what to get! We ended up going with the crab quesadilla for appetizer, I got the seafood enchiladas and David got the steak fajitas. Crab quesadilla: Not bad, first bite in I got a lot of crab flavor. Almost tasted like a crab bisque! Wouldn't say there was a TON of crab but it was decent. Seafood Enchiladas: The shrimp were huge, would have been nice if it was cut up. Also good amount of scallop. I thought the enchiladas were a little cheesy for my liking, either that or it needed more protein lol. Enjoyed my rice and bean sides as usual. Steak fajitas: I was STUFFED from my entree but had a bite of David's steak. Thought the steak was SUPER juicy and flavorful, I said it was probably the best piece of steak I'd had from a fajita platter and David seemed surprised (guess he didn't agree!). Was very tender and good in my opinion from the bite I had! Overall, great experience and would definitely come back again when we're feeling tex mex!

The chips were crisp and not oily; the salsa wasn't spicy, but looked fresh with chunks of tomato and onion. Very good fresh salsa. I got the vegetable fajitas ($24.99) and my partner got the Pollo Apanado ($23.99). The fajitas arrived on a sizzling platter. (The pictures I took below are a bit obscured from the steam from my platter!). It was a nice portion, with onion, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and broccoli. The veggies were well prepared - cooked but not mushy. I asked for corn tortillas and no sour cream. Everything arrived as I requested. The Pollo was a special last night - thin chicken breast in a brown mushroom sauce over mashed potatoes with a little cheese and asparagus. Very good. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday evening around 6:30 pm, but we were not rushed at all. Unfortunately, one of the specials they offered last night (cream of crab soup) was not available. Seems a bit early in the evening to run out of a specials item, but I guess it was very popular and good!) The service was very good. Water service especially. Our glasses were never empty before someone came by to refill. The price for the veggie fajitas seems higher than the same dish at other local restaurants. I can't say I noticed a difference in quality or taste from the others.

I have had 2 successful and delicious 5 star meals at this location. Both times prior to this time, we ate inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, take out orders don't seem to get the same care and attention. First, let me say the food was very good. But, my order had issues as soon as I arrived. We asked for the spicy sauce to be taken off our fish tacos. Luckily, the hostess who took the order noticed right away, that it was made incorrectly. So, it had to be redone. We asked for pico de gayo to replace the sauce and the fish tacos were drowned in the pico. It should have been placed on the side. We were charged $1 for every salsa sauce we ordered. When you eat in the restaurant it is given freely. The chips were served cold. When, I called and asked about it, I was told these were changes that had been made last month. We enjoyed the carne asada tacos with the avocado crema. They were delicious. My grandkids loved the Spanish rice. We also really liked the tacos Al pastor. The pork and pineapple are a tasty and flavorful combination. These were great. So, was it a total loss? No, not at all..we enjoyed a lot of the meal, but when you are paying $80 for a take out dinner, you want that attention to detail that you receive when dining at the restaurant. I will definitely be back, but I will be eating inside the restaurant. That, way, I can get my margarita too.

Unfortunately, my recent experiences at La Brasa have been very disappointing. The biggest issue has been the customer service. The person answering the phone has been consistently rude, has taken our orders incorrectly multiple times, and instead of trying to resolve mistakes professionally, argues with customers. That is simply not the level of respect or professionalism I expect from a business that has been part of the community for so many years. I have also noticed that the food quality has declined compared to what it used to be. It's disappointing because this restaurant once had an excellent reputation. I sincerely hope management addresses these concerns by improving customer service, training staff to communicate respectfully, and restoring the quality that made so many people loyal customers.
