I love this place. I only wish it wasn't so far away for me. I don't have a reason to go to poolesville that often, but when I do, I always eat here. All their food is spot on. The restaurant is tiny with only less than dozen tables, but it's clean and cozy. The service is quick and friendly. My hubby had the chicken enchiladas with molé sauce. The sauce was delicious . I had the Mexican street tacos with steak and it came with a spicy green sauce that was absolutely delicious! My kids had the steak asada and the kids chicken tacos , that came with Mexican rice and beans. Delicious! I've had the margaritas here before and did this time too, delicious as always! read more

My son and I, accompanied by my brother went there last night for dinner. Yes, it was a Monday night but we had the pick of the place, sat at a nice round table, ordered tacos, a huge bowl of chicken soup, and their version of Lomo Saltada. All dishes enjoyed very much as well as the attentive service by the waiter, Juan. We didn't have to ask him to refill our chips and salsa. He just did it with a smile. To go with the food we enjoyed drinks including a michelada and some cervesa. We will be back soon. read more

This is a simple, small, local Mexican restaurant, making simple, fairly authentic Mexican dishes. The environment is kinda old, but pleasant enough as a sit down place. I am just trying to paint a realistic picture of the place to contextualize some of the horrible reviews which I think are really harsh. This is a place for locals or workers or other persons coming into, or thru, Poolesville and wanting something tasty and for a reasonable cost, possibly for eat-in and needs to be measured in that context. Lackluster in my opinion. It's definitely not the cleanest looking place. Still we try the queso and it's broken and not flavorful, chips lacked salt and the salsa was ok. Queso was pricey at $11. I got the taquitos and they were basically one taquitos cut in thirds and covered in toppings. It was not great but what ruined it was getting something inedible inside of one of my chicken taquitos, turns out it was more than likely shrimp shell! Thank goodness I don't have a shellfish allergy. Eww I just don't know where it came from!! This place was pretty pricey and it's a one and done for me based on the taquito debacle. read more

Mexican Grill was a great restaurant to find while our visit to Poolesville. Eventhough it was packed due to a sports event in the area... they were able to accommodate our large group and service was excellent. Food was fresh and well prepared. Good Margaritas but my favorite was the Michelada beer.... (spicy Mexican mix and beer). Shrimp and chicken fajitas were awesome ... seasoned perfectly and tons of flavor. Mole enchiladas were also very good. Overall and on a difficult day this place was able to deliver great food at a very reasonable time and price. read more

THIS PLACE IS A GEM! Delicious food! And so fresh and authentic! The owners are passionate about their recipe choices, and their drinks are so good. I have yet to try something that didn't make my mouth water, and what's best is that it's a mom and pop so no chain, no frozen foods, and you won't be disappointed. Waiter split bill wrong and basically wouldn't budge to make the corrections because he was "too busy" and he couldn't be bothered. Didn't say all this politely, either. First time trying the place and very disappointed in the service and the food. Ordered tacos with shrimp for take out and it was a 40 minute wait for the pickup. What was on the plate seemed like it would be ready made, so shouldn't have taken that long to prepare. I arrived 10 minutes early for pickup and the place wasn't busy. Was told my food would be ready 10 minutes past the time I was told when I put in my order. A bit frustrating. When I got the food, the hard shell tacos were wet and falling apart so hard to eat. Requested gluten free due to a wheat allergy and the shrimp had a wheat coating on them. Didn't taste good at all. The "salsa" was more like an Italian tomato sauce and tasted really gross. Not planning to go back. Not many options for food here in Poolesville, so I'd hoped that the Mexican restaurant would be awesome. I mean, I've never had Mexican food be bad - and this was pretty bad. How can you mess it up? This restaurant clearly has the recipe on how to make Mexican food taste bad. Yuck. read more

Swing and a miss. Walked in and was not greeted by anyone. There was a table with 4 waitresses sitting there and they all ignored me. After standing there for way too long without being acknowledged, I picked my own table and sat down. Eventually someone came and asked if I wanted a menu. Got the menu and decided to get chips and guacamole ($11) and a pulled chicken burrito platter ($16). The chips and guac were good, but the chicken burrito was terrible. Found 2 small bones in the chicken meat in my burrito. It was also way too wet. They also didn't give me the sour cream that was supposed to come with it according to the menu. The refried beans were not good. Had to ask for a drink refill after they walked past my table a few times not noticing that it was empty. Wish I had just ordered the chips and guac or left and went across the parking lot to the pizza place after being ignored when I went in. Def won't be back. read more

I live in a small town with only one Mexican restaurant, so there's no variety of choices unless I drive 25-30 min out of town. With that being said, Mexican Grill is exceptional so there's really no reason to venture elsewhere. Their salsas are fresh with the spicy green salsa being a family favorite. Guacamole is spot on and they leave it chunky, which I prefer. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of their Lengua sandwich, but if they ever have lengua (sometimes they run out) definitely try it in tacos, burritos, etc. I grew up eating lengua and the way Mexican Grill prepares it is way better than my mom's I hate to say. It's like tender pot roast, no kidding! I've had their house margarita in previous years and that's a must if you're into margaritas. Online ordering is very simple and their website is user friendly, which makes customizing orders for my kids a breeze. Today we tried something new and it's only offered on Thursdays - the Quesapizza. We chose chorizo as the protein and jalapeños as the filling. It was VERY greasy, which I take is the fat from the chorizo, but it was oh so delicioso. It's a must try in my book, but perhaps next time I'll add pulled chicken/pork, steak, or shrimp...something less greasy. read more

My brother, sister in law and I came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't crowded inside or outside, we were one of three groups. We were greeted and seated right away. We ordered drinks and water. Drink came pretty quick, no waters. My margarita was extremely sweet and hard to drink. We got the water on the third ask by a different person, the person who seated us was watching tv. The chips and salsa were quite good although not complementary ($6.50). That's were everything heads south. The food was expensive and mediocre. My brother's taco salad ($15.50) had no cheese on it. My sister in law and I shared the cheese enchiladas. They were mediocre at best, tasteless and dry. The beans and rice were dry, as well. After the food came, no one came by to check on us at all. We wanted to sit and finish our drinks after eating, so I bussed our own plates to the next table. I had to go find someone to bring us the check. Avoid! read more

Tried the one in Kentlands - very disappointing; the one in Rio - ho hum! Ventured into Poolesville on an a different mission and there it was. The Mexican Grill. The mom and pop style of Mexican cooking by owners who take pride in serving families real home cooked dishes. The salsa is perfect. Chile relleno excellent in a sauce with a side of salad and rice. Starting with the good - the service is very friendly, the prices are reasonable, the fajitas my boyfriend got were hot and tasty, the chips and salsa hit the spot, and the margaritas were great. However, the queso was inedible - it was cold and congealed when it arrived at the table. When I managed to get a little bit of the stringy cheese attached to my chip, the taste was bland and underwelming. My entree, the enchiladas rancheras, while decent in flavor, was also cold. The rice was oily and salty, but lacking in flavor. All in all, this is getting 3 stars because we were hungry and nearby and it filled a need. Me and my fiancé went on a little adventure without our phones to see what we could find and found this place and it turned out to be the best Mexican food we've both had in years. They gave us chips and salsa right as we sat at the table and free refills till we got our food. We both drooled over the way the party tables food came out in front of us. I added this place to Yelp because yesterday they served me two of the tastiest tacos I've ever eaten. Let me tell you a story: Mexican Grill is a clean, well-lighted establishment. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, it was the perfect haven for a hungry person. The girl running the place was attentive and efficient and the food came out right quick. It was good. I ate it quickly. I wish I could give zero stars. I logged into my yelp account for The first time in 5 years specifically to make this review. Today, I called ahead to place a takeout order. Upon arrival, I went to the register to pay. As I was about to sign the receipt, a young boy of about 6 years old or so snuck up behind me and sprayed the entire left side of my face with a Mr. Clean bottle of cleaning chemicals. Fortunately I was still wearing my sunglasses, so it didn't get into my eyes. Unfortunately the kid then proceeded to try to pull my pocket knife out of my back pocket. I turned to him and he bolted into the back. The guy ringing me up went and told his mother, an employee working in the back. I got an apology from the employee when he returned, and waited for my food. I heard nothing from the mother or the boy. The kicker is that with the breakfast platter that was part of my order, instead of a syrup container, they included a Folger's Keurig K-cup. A previous visit had made me wary of eating here again, and this visit confirmed it. This place will never see my business again. read more

I haven't been here in awhile because this place is NEVER open! I have driven by at least three times and it's completely dark. On other occasions I have called to order take out and the phone just rings. It's February 16th and there is a sign on the door saying "sorry we're closed for Valentines".... So I'm assuming they have now been closed all weekend. I gave two stars because the toastadas have always been excellent. However, in the past when I have called they have been out of barbacoa or out of crunchy taco shells. Poolesville really needs a good, reliable, Mexican restaurant. Preferably one where you can get a margarita :) read more

Place has improved. Food is better: better prepared, better quality, and looks better (sometimes presentation goes a long way). They list the drink prices now, which is a good thing (in my opinion). Decor is nicer. Staff has always been friendly, so no complaints there. Kudos to them for improving on everything else. read more

My friends and I decided to stop by Mexican Grill on our way to Markhoff's to grab a drink and some appetizers. We immediately noticed that the restaurant was packed but there was one open table outside. We entered the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for one lady to finish putting in her order (possibly a takeout order?). Once we were next in line we specified that we'd like a table for three and proceeded to tell us that we'd have to wait. One friend told her that there was a table outside so she said we could sit there. Instead of walking us to our table she just gave us the menus and my friends and I made our way there. We waited at our table about 10 minutes before we stopped one waitress and asked if we could have some chips and salsa. Shortly after, our waitress finally came. At this point we had already been waiting for our waitress close to 15 minutes. We decided to order everything we wanted since we noticed how long it was taking. We ordered 2 jumbo margaritas, 1 regular margarita, 1 beer, 1 flan, and an order of quesadillas. I must admit that the salsa and chips were very good and tasted fresh. I flan was sub-par and something was off with the texture. I did not try the quesadillas but my friends enjoyed them very much. The 2 jumbo margaritas had an excessive amount of tequila to the point I had to water mine down. The waitress seemed to have completely forgotten about the regular sized margarita that we had to track her down to have her get it for my friend. The waitress never came by to ask us how everything was.....not even once. Each time, we had to track her down (get some water, more chips and salsa, the forgotten margarita) and we'd get so tired of waiting that we'd ask another waitress. We finally got the waitresses attention one more time and asked for our check. We waited about 20 minutes and she never came with our check. At this point, we had been there 2 1/2 hours for just drinks and an appetizer. We were so fed up that we went inside and again there was a line to the register. Once the people in front of us paid and left we walked in front of the register and the waitress at the register walked away. We waited dumbfounded until the waitress came back and she said verbatim, "Oh, I thought you guys were just chilling here". We FINALLY paid our bill 2 1/2 hours later. My friends and I were very upset since we had planned to only be here about 40-50 minutes. I understand that it was a busy night due to Markhoff's but the way this restaurant ran made no sense. It seemed like there was no host, one POS system, and waitresses just running around with no clear direction. The restaurant is tiny and I counted 6 waitresses so I just truly don't understand why this restaurant was such a mess. read more

And the staff....they didn't acknowledge us, apologize for the delay, or try at all to make us feel at ease for waiting so long. We had to ask then to bring us drinks, and they never brought us silverware (not that we needed it because we never got our food)! I would not recommend this place for big groups. read more
