I picked this salon based off reviews on yelp, so i felt i should contribute. This is such a wonderful salon. I am admittedly a high maintenance blonde, i am super picky about my color. I also have very long hair and hate when stylists just want to chop off six inches no matter what you want. Raquel only needed a quick consultation with me until i trusted her judgment. I am so happy i did! She gave me the exact color and cut i asked for. I rarely leave a salon confident and happy, but today I did. Not only was Raquel wonderful, but there was almost always two sets of hands working my hair. Ursula was super sweet and gave me an amazing hand massage and scalp massage. They offered me something to drink while I waited, the selection on the colors was amazing, Martin took his time to make sure my nails were perfect! The best overall experience I've ever had; I would give it 10 stars if I could! Being a black chick with thick and curly hair always has me fearful of getting haircuts in salons that don't have black hair stylists. I was so nervous, I made sure to show up to my appointment with my hair "straightened" to make it more manageable for the stylist to cut. When I was introduced to Raquel, the owner and my stylist, she was so incredibly knowledgeable and had firsthand experience with curly hair that I knew I was in great hands! She recommended a wash and condition before the cut, which was amazing, and was able to talk me out of a hairstyle that wouldn't work for my curls; and boy, I'm glad she did! After she got my hair dried before the cut, I could instantly see the difference in my curls! She even had what's considered a curl "bible" for me to read that was so entertaining, but most importantly, filled with great information in maintaining my fresh new curly cut! When she finished my cut, I could've cried 'cause she did wonders on my curly hair! Not only did it look healthy and shiny, but it felt so soft and moisturized! I even got a compliment from one of the salon's customers! Raquel never pushed product on me or any additional services. She was friendly, professional and really attentive to my hair needs! I have been here twice now and plan to come back every time! It is a relaxing, charming atmosphere in a great location. Raquel does an awesome job on hair and highlights, Lana gives wonderful facials, and every single person is so welcoming, attentive, and friendly. They are very organized and clean and offer snacks and drinks while you are there. I have tried a few other places in SB and would never go anywhere else besides Mi Salon. They are always busy yet always seem to be able to squeeze me in when I want. And even when they have several different clients inside at once, they remain attentive towards each client. I would NEVER go back to this salon. The stylist didn't show up for my appointment - didn't call and was unreachable. The salon didn't even have his number. Another stylist graciously did my color after I waited nearly 20 minutes. When I came home I was horrified to see that my entire ear was full of wet hair dye. Plus there was dye stain on my face! I called and spoke to the owner and she made excuses and blamed it on the stylist who didn't show up and took no responsibility for the poor job that was done. I LOVE Mi Salon, and Raquel, who is wonderful. I don't live in Santa Barbara, but every time I am in town I make an appointment. In fact I've stopped getting my hair cut anywhere else (truly no one else is as good at dealing with my very thick hair- she makes it lay just right and recommends great products); I just wait until my next SB visit. The salon is also nicely tucked away behind state street in a courtyard across from a cafe- feels quite calm back there. In summery: go to see Raquel! I have been going to some of the cheap places in town for the last few years, which was fine just for a trim, but totally lacking in any style. I have been wanting to try a gel manicure for a while, thinking it was too good to be true that your nail color could look as good as brand new two weeks later. I also knew that you could end up paying a lot for a bad job - the polish could lift or the manicurist could make them bumpy or look like little shovels if they didn't know what they were doing (see pics in other reviews..) I did a little research and decided to try Mi Salon. MARTIN did a gel manicure for me and all I can say is "WOW!!" What a beautiful job - this guy is a GEM! I can't believe I didn't have to try ten duds before I found the best one. It is now 12 days later, and no kidding, the polish looks exactly the same as it did the day I got them done. The polish is super hard, so my nails have grown and not one of them has broken, and these are not thick like fake nails. It just looks like a couple coats of shiny polish. In my job, I type a lot and have my hands in paperwork and files constantly, and a normal manicure would have worn off the tips in two days max, even with heavy top coat. It's Day 12 and my nails look PERFECT. Nail growth and cuticle trimming is the only reason for another appointment. Plus, when your mani is done, there is no dry time. Zero. I am completely delighted and downright amazed. My friend went with me and had a wonderful pedicure with Ursula. She did a very nice job on the polish, too. I saw a gel manicure on someone that she did, and I would trust Ursula completely for that, too. Such a super friendly salon - they even brought us Mimosas. Seriously. Sorry, I know I completely gushed on and on, but I feel like I hit the lotto with this place :) They truly are as good as it gets. read more

We are big fans of Mi Salon and of Ursula in particular! We found Mi Salon in the courtyard after lunch at Scarlett Begonia on the day of an event, and decided to give it a try for a quick blowout. We ended up so pleased with Ursula and her "can-do" and kind attitude that we ended up sending 7 people from the wedding group to her for blowouts the next day. They accommodated everyone, made everyone's hair look beautiful, and at a fraction of what the big salons charge for event hairdos. Thank you Ursula! This is definitely the best salon I have ever been too! I had been contemplating getting my hair cut and adding some low lights, but I am new to town and didn't know a lot about any salons. Yelp led me to Mi Salon... They gave me great advice and provided excellent service. I received complementary wine, a hand massage, and they even treated me to a full manicure. I walked into the salon full of anxiety and left full of confidence. The owner Raquel cut my hair, and it is the most flattering hair cut I have ever had. Martin artfully kept me blonde but added warm low-lights to make my hair look like a more sandy natural blonde instead of bleach blonde. They took notes of what color they used on my hair, so when i go back they can more of the same color. I am so excited I found this salon.
