This apparently struggling authentic Honduran restaurant needs to be shown some love. It is not new yet has almost no yelp reviews. It was almost empty when I walked in. I am adventuresome and decided to take a chance. The decor is nothing fancy. Not warm and inviting. It's a restaurant that appeals to their countrymen and women. A family place. I don't speak Spanish and I think none of the 4 female employees speak English. I pointed at what I wanted on the menu. The pupusas are $4 to 5 or 6 dollars. Most entrees are $15 to $20. The 2 pupusas were doughy and a little burnt. I did not receive enough curdita, what I call Honduran coleslaw. I asked for more but we failed to communicate. Next time I will bring a friend who can translate. They tasted ok but not wonderful. I have only had Salvadoran pupusas when I lived in los angeles. I am a long beach Honduran pupusa eating newbie. Next time, I will have my friend who has lived in 3 or 4 countries in Latin America explain the menu. The menu selection looks interesting. Much different than Mexican tacos, burritos, etc. I will update this review when I dine here again with friends and share food.

They don't serve hard alcoholic beverages, but they do have an amazing Passion Fruit juice that was extra delicious. Highly recommend ordering one! For dessert, we tried two different items: the rosquillas con ice cream and the apple crisp. Both were really good in their own unique way, the perfect sweet ending to the night. They also have a snack section my favorite! Lol. They were running a 3-bag special on their plantain chips, which are my favorite, so of course I grabbed some to go! Overall, we loved Maria and her energy, and we'll definitely be coming back to try their full menu next time. A fun little stop with great service and tasty treats!

It left a good impression so I figured I'd go try the real deal out at some point. At the event the shrimp ceviche was served with plantain chips which if you're a central American, it's a nice touch. So for my dad's birthday I figure bring him here since we are central American something he would enjoy. Total bait and switch and it worked because based on what I got at the Yelp event I was expecting the same ingredients and presentation. I'll have images of what I had at the Yelp event vs what we were served. No plantain chips, we got tortilla chip strips, ceviche was more like a pico de gallo salsa with minimal shrimp chopped up so tiny you couldn't even taste it. Not worth the $24 or $25 that I paid for it. Even the ceviche de caracol looked like it had more protein in it than vegetables. Not sure if they're trying to save costs by making it more of a Salsa than ceviche. The waitress was attentive no complaints there and the location is pretty big inside. We were the only table there which I thought was a bit odd but figured maybe we came on an off day. They do have some TVs to watch sports, a small bar area and a little store front where you can buy items to take home. Parking in the area is pretty tough if you are driving since it's street parking. If you're a local walking then you're fine. Would we come back.. nope

After today's visit, I felt it was finally time to leave a review because this restaurant deserves all the recognition it can get. The food is consistently incredible and always tastes freshly made. My personal favorite is the pan con chicken sandwich it's absolutely delicious every single time. And no family visit is complete without ordering a platter of about 10 pupusas to share. They're perfectly made, flavorful, and always leave us looking forward to our next visit. The service is just as outstanding as the food. Everyone is genuinely friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making you feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in. Restaurants like this are becoming harder to find. They consistently deliver amazing food, exceptional service, and a warm atmosphere that keeps people coming back. If you're looking for authentic Salvadoran food in Long Beach, this is the place. Support local businesses like this...you won't regret it!

But.. hear me out. They bring out a complementary tortilla chips drizzled in a house sauce & cotija cheese I believe...But Delicious! Nice little appetizer. I would highly recommend the Baleada, it's just a handmade flour tortilla with bean & cheese, it sounds basic, but trust it's pretty good. Perfect for any occasion. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Finally I got the Carne asada plate, which I will say from the times I've been here. It never misses, always nicely cooked, seasoned to perfection, perfectly paired with these fried plantains called "Tajadas" topped with a creamy mayonnaise/thousand island type dressing. It's just a well-balanced plate. Sweet, savory, tangy and creamy! everything complements each other perfectly. My biggest complaint would be customer service, these waitresses don't know the first thing about good service, they don't know how to treat their customers, they come out as rude. Just be ready for that. Overall El Katracho Restaurant is an authentic Honduran restaurant with good food, it's a small restaurant but the ambiance is a vibe. I would recommend it if you want some good Honduran/Central American food.
