I had seen La Chiva so many times when taking the Metro from Wardlow Station, so decided to finally try it for lunch when a friend took Metro down to Long Beach to visit. There is a small parking lot and the interior is not that big, but there are also several outside tables. Service was fine, and the waiter spoke both English and Spanish. The menu is very extensive and it took us a while to decide what to order. We ended up ordering the sancocho de gallina (soup), hígado a la criolla, churrasco, and picada. We also ordered patacones as an appetizer and jugos (juices) to drink: guayaba (guava), maracuyá (passionfruit), and lulo. The juices were very refreshing and tasty. The food was also very yummy with large portions, and we had lots of leftovers. The entrees came with rice, salad, and beans. Prices were not the cheapest but were fair. Overall, it was a solid Colombian food experience.

Upon entry into this restaurant I was immediately taken back by not only the rich aromatic sent of food being prepared in the kitchen but also by the captivating artwork placed strategically around the Restaurant. I honestly couldn't choose which piece to view the longest as the details were quite mesmerizing. This well lit gem (what I call it) had beautiful individuals who had such great customer service I added a delightful meal to accompany my coffee that I intended on making my only order. So glad I tried the very tender chicken breast with rice in the rich (not over powering )tomato sauce. You too might enjoy the Pechuga Sudada ! My friend enjoyed the Carne Asada Plate with Sweet plantain, salad Rice and Beans

They can do better on the presentation and taste on the food and service. Literally had on person working in this location. I noticed the pricing is higher compared to LA Colombian restaurant.

I love this restaurant so much! My coworkers and i came here for lunch and had some delicious authentic Colombian food. The service was great, make sure to be kind to the staff and tip generously. During a lunch rush hour they were very busy and short staffed. I would even recommend ordering online through their website ahead of time. Highly recommend checking out this place for some delicious Colombian food!

Don't sleep on this food!! Very good, and well made. I was pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews. I had the beef empanadas and the arroz con pollo. I had leftovers and I am going back for more! It was yummy in my tummy! Good job La Chiva. I hope you do well. Bravo

I'm going to try and make this review as positive as possible since it was my first time here and we were confused first off it's in a not so great area in Long Beach inside no air conditioning and outside is nothing amazing because of the location customer service wasn't good we asked the guy in Spanish if he could recommend something that was popular amongst customers but he didn't recommend anything changed the subject to if we're going to want to order something to drink so we ordered the guava and guanabana juice in milk which we had also asked him about but he was very uniformative so I ordered all these random items which weren't good besides you need to wait a long time for the food to come out we waited longer than we actually enjoyed the food I nibbled on most just to try but all were lacking flavor and some I had no idea what I should expect because the guy was not welcoming or helpful when we asked a bit pricey for what you get really inexpensive ingredients maybe if the customer service was better I would of had a better experience but I will not be returning here or recommending this place to anyone the service alone is enough to not want to come back maybe it wasn't the food but the guys service that gave us a bad taste I'm usually a great tipper so fyi if you don't even try to give good service I don't have to give a good tip as a previous server I know anyway enjoy my pictures at least those are nice

Definitely must try. If you'd never had Colombian food, this place has a good variety to get to familiar. We did takeout and ordered the Picada and the empanadas. The picada was delicious! The sweet plantain was perfect, it had chicharrón, chicken, chorizo, morcilla, steak, arepas, fried cheese, maduros, yuca, just lots of yummy stuff. The empanadas are so good. They come with a green vinegar sauce that's similar to a chimichurri. They had potato and chicken. As far as empanadas go, Colombian style empanadas are some of my favorite and these did not disappoint. We will definitely eat at the restaurant next time and try other items.

It was beautiful inside, I was excited to try their food. We went for Happy hours, their margaritas was buy one get one free. For the price it was good amount. When we got seated it was just the two of us and another couple. The server took our orders right away. Ordered the chicken, beef and shrimp empanadas and shrimp ceviche. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! At this point it was just the two of us and the server. Waited roughly 45 minutes for our food because it looks like the server decided to take a lunch while we wait for our food. The server did not check on us or apologize to us that it was taking a while for the food to come out until she saw the frustration on our face and inform us the food is almost ready! 45 minutes later, she brought out the empanadas and I received two chicken and one shrimp... it was OK with the help of the sauces that was given. The shrimp ceviche was actually good, the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Here's the thing, the menu does not have prices on it and when we received the bill, the ceviche was $22! For the amount and for what it was, it was not worth it. The whole experience was horrible.

It was a little bit early, so the restaurant was completely empty which means service was very quick. I ordered steak with rice beans on the side. The food did not take very long to come out, and there was an assortment of sauces to add to the steak. The meal was not the best. The presentation was very nice and the waitress that took care of us was very friendly however, I do not think I would come back to this restaurant due to many of the items we first wanted were not available.

A great alternative to Porto's!…read more I bought a wide variety of empanadas here, including the breakfast and burrito flavors, and they were all incredibly savory and delicious. You have the option to buy them frozen to save for later, but they honestly taste best when you eat them fresh right at the bakery. A quick tip if you order online: Make sure to go straight to the front and let one of the many employees know you are there for a pickup. They only call out names for in-person orders, so you'll be waiting a while if you don't speak up! I also tried their new seasonal sandwich--the pulled pork melt and the very popular nonseasonal sandwich crispy chicken sandwich. Both were very filling and packed with flavor. Just make sure to eat these fresh, as they will likely get soggy if you try to save them for later. They have a great selection of desserts and coffee drinks that I didn't have room for this time, but I'll definitely be saving those for my next trip to Long Beach. If you're looking to try something a little different from the usual spots like Porto's, I highly recommend checking this place out. I will definitely be returning to try more flavors!

Parking - Free in a shared large parking lot, plentiful We were both intrigued by their potato balls, empanadas, and breakfast burrito in which we ordered 4 potato balls (2 chicken/2 beef), 2 empanadas (1 chicken, 1 beef), and 1 breakfast burrito to share. Our order came out in about 10 minutes or so, not too busy. Total came out to about $42 which is quite expensive for the amount of items in my opinion. 1. Potato Balls - By far my favorite menu items from the visit, they weren't as crispy/crunchy as Portos but they're bigger. Portions are big and it's filled with your choice of filling, very delicious, highly recommend 9/10 2. Empanadas - Usually I love empanadas but these were a bit disappointing on my end. They were softer than empanadas that I usually have, although delicious still but definitely not my favorite from the bakery. 6.5/10 3. Breakfast Burrito - Talk about portions, this breakfast burrito is loaded with ingredients, eggs among many other ingredients, super flavorful and savory. It does have a bit of a kick to it which adds to the taste, pretty good! 8.5/10 Overall, a solid brunch spot, although a bit expensive, it's still worth to check them out. Pretty decent tasting potato balls, breakfast burrito is big in portion and delicious as well, along with their empanadas which can be a hit or miss depending on the style of empanadas you like. Definitely a good spot for a snack even if you're in the area.

The crowd, the excitement, and the overall atmosphere made it such a fun viewing party. The DJ really helped elevate the experience and kept the energy going all game long. It truly felt like the place to be for soccer fans. Food-wise, I definitely recommend the chicken quesadilla. Also, the mojitos downstairs were excellent--super refreshing and worth trying! Just note they weren't available at the viewing party on the 3rd floor. Overall, such a great spot for a game-day experience. We'll definitely be back, and next time we want to try more from the full restaurant menu.

First time at Olé Bar Tapas Bar & Kitchen, and honestly, three stars is me being generous…read more The space itself is nicely designed, but we were seated at a slanted table and the restaurant was way too hot. Several tables were literally fanning themselves with menus. Our waitress even mentioned it to the manager, but nothing really changed. That alone made the experience uncomfortable. The bigger issue for me was value. I understand tapas are small plates, but for the prices, the quality and portions should be much better. The calamari tasted fine, but there were a lot of red bell peppers and mostly crumbs at the bottom. The mixed olives came in a very small dish with mostly tiny olives with pits, broken pieces, and maybe three decent-sized olives. The garlic shrimp was the standout and was actually very good. The ham and cheese croquetas were four tiny little balls, about the size of mini store-bought frozen meatballs, served with a little sweet tomato sauce underneath. Not terrible, just extremely small and not memorable. Drinks were mixed. I enjoyed the wine flight trio. My mom had the classic mojito, and my sister wasn't impressed with the mezcal Negroni. The biggest disappointment was dessert. We ordered the churros with chocolate sauce. I've lived in Spain and Spanish cuisine is one of my specialties, so I know what churros con chocolate should be. These were pale yet somehow overcooked, and the sauce was very light brown, extremely hot, and tasted more like butter, cream and sugar than chocolate. To her credit, a second waitress did try to help since our original waitress event to break and was very kind. Since my family had already eaten some of the churros and didn't know any better, she explained she couldn't fully remove the dessert, but she gave me a $9 discount using her employee discount. I didn't ask for a discount, rather to inform the kitchen. I appreciated that gesture, so thank you to her for making an effort. Service overall was okay, but our water wasn't consistently replenished and we eventually had to ask for ice water, especially frustrating considering how hot it was inside. Our bill came out to about $156 for three drinks, bread with tomato, calamari, olives, garlic shrimp, croquetas and churros. For that price, the quality, portions, service and overall experience just didn't match. Nice ambiance and good garlic shrimp, but the menu needs some serious tightening up. Three stars. There's potential here, but right now it feels overpriced for what you actually get.

It was very accomodating since everywhere else was packed! We wanted to find some shade as well since it was 90 degrees outside. In parallel to this event, there was a city event going on at the same time called Beach Streets. That event was awesome as well! We were hungry so we posted up here from our bike ride. My wife and I got ID'd just to come in. Why ID if it is a restaurant, did not make sense? We did not have a host to sit us. Sit as you see was the service provided. Once we sat the waiter took our order. We wanted Sangria but come to find out they had nothing in stock. A restaurant that is Spanish desent and has FIFA world cup soccer being televised with out Sangria wine. Big surprise there!. We ordered a pitcher of Margarita. 10 mins to drop off and took another 17 minutes for our waiter to take our order. Ordered ceviche, empenadas and Lomo Saltado. All received within a 15 min time frame. Not going to complain about the taste, all is good. Presentation and billing is my problem from my dissapointment statements listed below. To get to the point, my complaints of dissapointment in details. This place is expensive!! The presentation of the food delivered was nothing special. The quanity being served for $26 a plate did not do justice. $16 appetizers of Ceviche and Empenadas. The margarita pitcher was $55 and it was filled mostly with ice. Lacked liquor, a bit stingy on their serving. Received our bill, they automatically but a 20% service charge tacked on my bill! Keep in mind It is only two people not a party of 6. I want the option to decide myself if the waiter is worthy of a good tip with provided service. The guy was hustling trying to take everyones orders. What type of management understaffs on a FIFA World Cup Championship game? Just one guy taking care of the entire restaurant is not acceptable. He was nearly non existence on our stay. Also, what type of managent doesnt stock alcohol up for the big game? The place looks and feels runned down. Tables looked old, restaurant was hot. Plastic Forks and spoons provided with one napkin. Lol. Just full of dissapointments. My final bill came out to $140. The nail in the coffin for me to rate this place only 1 star was the automatic service charge attached. I disagree with this restaurants billing policy. They stronghold you to pay for service, even if the service is bad. Overall, the taste is good, but if your going to charge me $26 for a plate, at least give me some silverware and clean my tables. I have been here a few times since the early 2000s. This place needs a makeover. Tables are dirty outside and inside. Charging for high quality prices for a place that doesnt deliver the ambiance. Total dissapointment on my visit. "My experience only." Ask them to remove the service charge. Complete BS
