I went to Mi Tierra Mayas twice just to give it a fair shot but sadly didn't redeem themselves. Both times we did take out instead of dinning in. The restaurant itself is far too loud with music which made it hard to have a conversation with my husband. Not a big deal but preferred to not dine in. Both times service was extremely slow. Over an hour when you're hungry and still have to make it home to eat your food was kind of hard. The food--the first time we got tacos, beef and chicken. They were ok. Not great but pretty decent. The second time we ordered the "Parrillada Catracha". It's a platter that has grilled chicken, pork chop, steak, chorizo, shrimp, rice, beans, avocados, and cheese. It's feeds about 5 people. Sounds amazing but it didn't live up to the hype. Most of the meats were hard to chew with no flavor at all. What bothered me the most was the lack of attention. My husband does not eat seafood and we specifically stated to NOT add in shrimp. When we got home, what do you know? Shrimp! We just ended up throwing most of it away. Now, I know a lot of complaints with the staff that there's a language barrier because they don't speak much English, which is true, however we spoke Spanish! This was actually my first time at this restaurant. It was a little late in the evening and we were craving Mexican food. We went online too see what was open late. And this one popped up! It's on little creek road and Chesapeake blvd. And it's across from CVS. I can't remember if it was east or west. But you'll see the address on their website. Lol! So back to what I was saying. I've drove pass this place a couple of times. But never had the urge to try it out. But it was late like I said. We were craving Mexican food. When we walked in the place looked pretty nice inside. The outside looks a little run down. Because the building has been there forever. It's in a little strip mall. But inside looked pretty nice. Our waiter was a young guy. He was pretty friendly. Customer service was not great. But it was just ok. Now the food was ok. The only thing that was wrong was the rice. The rice was stale. It was extremely hard/ crunchy. It felt uncomfortable to chew. It might have been a day old. But over all the restaurant was a cute little hang out spot if you want a quick bite too eat. And your craving tacos and etc. Just don't go late in the night. The rice may not be fresh. Prices are ok. Their menu is a little different from the other Mexican restaurants I have been too. But HEYYYY try them out! You never know you may like it! read more

Our server was really quick to seat us and serve us our chips and drinks. We ordered enchiladas and the taquitos flautas (on the appetizer menu). I got my enchiladas but my fiancé got an order of three tacos. We asked what had happened and were told they were the taquitos we had ordered....? Not rolled, not fried, not anything but an open street taco. He even deliberately asked us if she was okay with corn tortillas before we got the order. The tortillas were flour on the plate. So someone messed up, which is fine, but being lied to our face and given something we didn't order isn't a good way to do business. We may try again sometime and see if this place can redeem itself. The food overall was just okay as well, not our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Two stars for poor customer service and very average food. read more

Ordered chicken beef and shrimp fajita and it was excellent the vegetables were crisp & fresh and were not sitting in a bed of grease. The beans were very good and I usually don't eat beans; rice average. My friend ordered Nachos Supreme and it came with a generous amount of guacamole with hunky chunks of avocado. Both of us really liked our dishes. Misc notes: Interior seem to be missing something when we first walked in but when we sat down and looked around there was just the right mix of American and Mexican design. I went here with some friends for Cinco de Mayo and it was so busy (which we expected) but the service was eh. The food was pretty good and we got $5 margaritas. The chips were warm and the salsa was yummy! Definitely was not expecting such a nice interior because the shopping center was a little dingy. I was really disappointed with the service - mainly because we waited at least 15 minutes to get our order taken and we didn't know exactly who our waiter was since a new person walked up to our table every time we needed something. I understand it was busy because of the holiday but it seemed like they were ignoring our table. I'm sure it would be better if it hadn't been so busy...planning on trying this restaurant again in the future. read more

Alrighty then, my third Mexican restaurant review in 2 weeks. Mom, I've definitely been getting my fiber Since there was a Groupon for it, we ventured forth. It had good reviews and some of the very best looking food photos we've seen. Stomachs said growl! They asked if we wanted chips and salsa, and usually if they ask, it's going to cost extra. But no, they were complimentary. I asked for quacamole as an added dip. Again, usually extra at most places. We were not charged extra here. So we are on a good roll so far. Chips had that almost sesame-like flavor I love, as does my wife, but the kids thought it a bit weird tasting. Still, we scarfed then down. They were not busy at all when we went, which was good. Maybe one other table. The food came out looking and smelling fantastic. My chicken fajitas had a unique flavor I've never had in restaurant fajitas, and that was the flavor of roasted peppers. We roast then over a burner at home all the time and know the flavor well. The wife and kids enjoyed their dishes, too. Portions were decent. Not amazing, but decent. Flavors were excellent. Unlike big-box Mexican shops, here you get rice AND beans for lunch, not just dinner. Their guacamole salads were a bit bigger and tastier than most places, as well. It's a good place and we recommend it. But there always has to be some issue, right? Well I only mention this one so maybe the staff and management muse on it a bit...... More and more places that accept Groupons will look at and write down the voucher code at the table, as opposed to the older and much frowned upon method of actually taking you phone to the register or in back to process. Most places stopped that because they were dropping customers phones, and there were a few stories in the news nationally that photos and financials were being gone through on customers phones. So the vast majority of places view and copy the voucher code at the table. This restaurant took the phone all the way in back. Phone was fine, but it unnecessarily risks your phone. Next time, ask them to view and copy the voucher at the table. In summary, the food was real good at Mi Tierra Grill and we look forward to going again. read more

As a white family that wanted to have authentic Mexican food we had the worst restaurant experience ever. Our waitress spoke very little English which was fine cause we were working through it. The problem was she did not want to deal with people who spoke very little Spanish so she ignored us. Took over 30 minutes to get a glass of water refilled. 2 tables came in and ordered and ate and left before we got our food. Apparently she left it in the kitchen so long that the cheese sauce on my daughter-in-laws burrito had solidified. Me and my husbands fajitas had become cold so they put it on new cast iron plates and caused our food to burn. Tasted absolutely horrible. Its ashamed cause we were so excited. Our waitress also charged us extra for things that come with the meal like the tortillas because she has absolutely no clue what she is doing. Tortillas come with Fajita platters. In fact they came with at least 75% of the meals on that menu. I had spoke to someone thru an app and she said our waitress was new and inexperienced and did not like being told what to do. WOW! And that is my problem! They need to train their waitresses. Next time we go to an authentic Mexican restaurant I will grab my Columbian Spanish speaking son in law. Visitedmi tierra for the first time today, I didn't dine in. I order to go, the place is small but still lots of space. Very clean from what I could see, the service excellent! Friendly! I sat at the bar while I waited for my burrito bowl. I waited about 15 min, which I appreciate! Because I know they just made it. I love that they have a lunch specials Monday thru Sunday. Sometimes you don't want to eat much, their lunch list it's not big but has enough options. My salad was very good, the shell was not soggy at all. I did missed the guacamole that was supposed to be on it but it was good anyways. They also give you complimentary salsa and chips lots of restaurants are charging extra for it, or you don't get any when ordering to go. This was my first time here. My mom and I wanted to try someplace new. The place was abandoned of all customers and staff when we walked in. Granted, it was late lunch time (2pm-ish). My mom went in the kitchen to flag someone down to help us. A young girl brought us chips and salsa and did not know what we were asking when we asked for the lunch menu. A friendly boy server came to assist and said it was in the menu already but it was not. The chips were ok, but the salsa tasted like sweet, canned tomatoes and the white dip was bland. We both ordered lunch fajitas. The tortillas were very gross to me. Tasted like corn and not flour tortillas (just not my preference). The meat was burned, the rice tasted like nothing. The beans were good, as well as the lettuce/pico/avocado mixture. We were never checked on til we were finished and I really needed something to drink. It was all edible, but I will never be back.
