Good lunch on Thursday. Outstanding trio appetizer of guacamole, con queso and tangy salsa with chips. My tacos were octopus, flounder, and tempura shrimp. The shrimp was the best. It wasn't very crowded and it was very quiet. Service was good and the server was friendly and conversational. There were only four beers on draft.

We had dinner tonight at Union Taco located on 25th Street in the heart of Norfolk's warehouse district. I started coming here after reading a great Yelp Review and I've been hooked since then. All of the drinks are made with fresh squeezed juice and the bartenders have some excellent craft cocktails that were created on site. That how you know when you've found a place that is special, you can get drinks here that nobody else is serving. Now onto the food, I absolutely adore the Birria Tacos. If you've never had them, you are really missing out. The beef is slow cooked for several hours to allow all of the ingredients to marry and the result is a wonderful beef taco that is tender and delicious. They put the meat into a corn tortilla and then dip it in the juice of the beef. Then they add the cheese and grill it to a golden brown. The result is a crispy, tender and delicious taco like no other. It's really amazing to enjoy. This is the place to go for your next Taco Tuesday adventure!

I got the blackened mahi tacos 3 for $15. I got more pickled onions than actual mahi. What happened to portion control? Also my husband got an al pastor taco, it was spoiled. It didn't smell or taste good, Gross! And the service was very slow. Disappointed.

Stopped here for lunch with the Wifey while driving through town. First off the decor is awesome I love the vibe. They have the same menu for lunch and dinner which doesn't bother me but it'd be nice if they had something different. With that being said the food was really good! I had the elote smash burger which to my surprise was huge! I had to take half home, and Wifey loved the tacos. The mocktail was good and not overly sweet as some are at other places. I bet this place is fun at night I'd check it out again for dinner.

This is my REGULAR GO-TO taco place in Ghent. I come here every time I come back from a business trip and a welcome home treat to myself. I always order 3 to 4 tacos everytime I am here and their homemade salsa is INCREDIBLY GOOD. Warning though, it does have a little kick to it. I think 4 tacos is the right amount to get full. If you want to try the dessert though, I recommend getting three. You can get it on either a corn or flour tortilla (I always go with corn because they give you two of it). The service is always great there, and everyone is so friendly. It's not just the food that is great here, but the cocktails are very good too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Strawberry Basil Margarita. They have a mini parking lot next to the restaurant, but most people just park on the same street or across the street. When it does get busy at peak dinner times, you'll have to park on another street and walk a few minutes. It is so worth it!

3.5 overall. Cool, open air vibe. Enjoy the variety of artisan tacos and drinks. Grilled squid was cooked perfectly. Menu is a tad pricey and they have a few process challenges (drinks ordered first but came 10min after apps dropped). Street parking like many spots close to Downtown Norfolk.

This place was DELICIOUS. Came here on a whim with a friend for a quick lunch and it was exactly what we needed. I currently live in Texas so I've had a lot of good tacos - but no seafood tacos like this down there! I got a Tako taco and the Seared Ahi. The Tako had a little bit of a kick with the spicy sauce they used but I still thought it was delicious. The Seared Ahi was really refreshing and tasty as well. My friend ordered one of the bowls (I don't remember which one) but it was also really good. Will definitely be back and bringing more friends while I'm in the Norfolk area!

I live near Union Taco, and I'm making an effort to support all the small restaurants around me. Sadly, I didn't love this one. Context: I grew up in the LA area, where tacos are heavenly. I'm also Mexican-American who frequents going back to MX to visit family and eat! FOOD: We ordered the queso fundido to start which was fine but it tasted more like Tex Mex queso than queso fundido, it was too watery to be queso fundido. I had the chicken tinga, baja fish, and coliflor taco. Here's my beef with them, the tortillas that they use are too thin so by the time they get to you, it's all falling apart. Either double it up like most taquerias do or get thicker tortillas. LOCATION: The place is really cool, they have so many alcohol options. Parking is on the street, it could get tricky on the weekends. SERVICE: Friendly service! Pretty quick, too! No complaints here. Will I come back? Perhaps just to have a drink but not food :/

This place was a last minute suggestion of a friend of mine to go to! Usually I have to look at the menu before I go to any new restaurant, but unfortunately I didn't have time to do that which worked out fine!! This is such a great location I love the decor, the bar is very cute! We ordered margaritas I opted for the chefs choice I believe it's called. It was a special margarita it happened to be apple cinnamon which was so good! My friend got an original margarita! I have to say I love it when a place does a nice garnish for their cocktails!! We had an appetizer of chips and queso it was so good!! The perfect appetizer to have while waiting for our food! I ordered the Birra tacos the filling was very good. Lots of flavor the birra consume that it's served with was very good as well my only recommendation is I wish that Union Taco would offer birra tacos the traditional way with a corn tortilla. They way it is served it's very difficult to eat the center two pieces and dip them in the consume it makes a big mess. The meal is served with rice and beans I'm not a fan of beans so I asked for no beans. The rice was very hard I would say under cooked. Not your traditional Mexican rice it was a white rice. My friend did a carne Asta bowl she said it was very good as well she informed me her rice was not cooked as well. She ordered brown rice. We both ordered dessert we both ordered the churro sundae this is a must have!!! So delicious!! The waiter was very attentive and very pleasant! He was also very knowledgeable of the menu as well!! I will definitely return for another visit!!!

Absolutely loved our lunch. Tacos were so fresh. Being a vegetarian it was great to have options on the menu. We loved that the corn tortillas were grilled and they use 2 tortillas for a taco. Great tasting house margaritas. Really cool building and great to see the transformation of the area. Definitely will return. Service was excellent.

Union Taco has been on my radar for quite some time and I'm glad I was able to check them out during happy hour. They have awesome happy hour specials that include $2 off appetizers and drink specials too good to pass up. We decided to do something totally different and try some veggie appetizers. I've always wanted to try shisito peppers and I've been seeing them around more often on menus. We ordered that along with the thai curry cauliflower. Beware, their appetizers are HUGE and I'd say they're big enough to feed four people! Each had a very unique taste to it that I can't describe. The crispy cauliflower reminded me of hot chicken wings (random, lol) and the peppers would not have been tolerable for me had it not been for that honey! It is really spicy! I don't think I could eat that again but if you're really into spicy food, this is definitely for you! Aside from the apps, I also ordered the baja fish taco and the bulgogi taco. Both also very flavorful. It it weren't for the free chips and the apps I would've finished them but I found myself struggling! I'd definitely be back for happy hour again! It's a cool spot with awesome vibes. Amanda was our server and she made my first visit there a good one!

Friend suggestion for happy hour and I can't get over the fact I haven't been here before! Didn't make it for happy hour, but pricing was still good. Low lighting with a beautiful liquor wall plus I love the heated lamp at the entrance. I was able to get street parking nearby, not bad for a Thursday night. For 2, we sat at the bar and were immediately helped. Wish I remembered his name, but the bartender was very sweet and knowledgeable when describing the margaritas to us. Typical of a Mexican restaurant, we had chips and salsa (loved the salsa) until we ordered. The margarita of the day -- peach flavored was delicious. The alcohol was there, but it wasn't aggressive. I ordered 3 tacos at first, but had to order another once I found out how good that fish taco was! I loved we were able to mix and match the tacos to be able to try it all. Tacos were about $3/4-$6 at most I believe. The chicken tinga tacos were good and my friend said she really liked her panko shrimp one. Kitchen closes at 930, so beware! I can't wait to visit here again to try other menu items and drinks!

Fist time here and I'm glad I finally made it. Came with coworkers so we tried lots on the menu. Started with the chips and salsa and the chips are very good, tasted homemade. We also had the ceviche and that was excellent but the portion size was lacking. For tacos we had the carne asada, beef bugogi, fish, shrimp, ahi tuna, chicken tinga. The beef bugogi n the carne were my favorites but I love steak so. The shrimp was good. Definitely request the hot salsas, (they gave 3 different kinds) as they are delicious and compliment the tacos well. They could use some help with service as the food took a while to come out. The server we had could really use some help getting to all her tables in a timely manner. My coworker ordered and paid for 2 beef bugogi tacos but he never received them.

Ask the Community - Union Taco

Is this somewhere I can go and sit at the bar by myself and I wouldn't look weird or is this a place where I need to come with other people?

I frequently go alone and this place has a great bar area for that! Service is really quick solo and I either make convo (not necessary) or hang out with my food on my phone.

I live about 30+ mins away but I remember the food being very good last time, so I didn't mind the drive at all. We were greeted by the host as soon as we walked in and were seated right away. Our server was wonderful. She was very pleasant and helped us with some of the questions we had regarding the menu items. We started with the Fresh Tableside Guacamole and it tasted great! We did order it with a "medium" spice level and it wasn't spicy at all but other than that, it was very good. Since the Street Tacos caught our eye, we both decided on those. We ordered the Al Pastor, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Chorizo, Camarón, Nopales and Lengua. The tacos were served with a variety of different sauces, ranging from sweet and mild to very spicy. Most of the tacos were delicious, our favorite was the Al Pastor, Barbacoa, and Camarón. We weren't a fan of the Lengua, it was very dry, chewy and unflavored. Overall, we had a great experience. Our margaritas were amazing as well! I love the vibe of this restaurant and the food and service is always wonderful.

For my pickup order, I had a taco salad with a side of rice, and it was hands-down amazing. I also ordered a watermelon fresca, which was so flavorful and clearly made in-house. You can really taste the freshness. I was told they make their tortillas in-house as well, so I ordered a side of those just to try--and they were excellent. Everything was packed with great care for takeout, neatly wrapped and organized. I also appreciated that the pico de gallo was served on the side, which kept everything fresh and well-balanced. The only small downside is that they don't offer a traditional salad dressing for the taco salad, but fresh lime works perfectly and still keeps it very enjoyable. On a separate delivery order a few days later, I tried their birria tacos with a side of rice and another fresca. Again, everything arrived fresh and flavorful. The quesabirria tacos were packed with meat, very rich and satisfying, and they included plenty of sauce on the side, which I appreciated. The rice was also consistently good. What stands out most is how consistent they are between pickup and delivery. Everything is well-prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully packed. This has quickly become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area, especially since they're so close by.
