We walked in late this Tuesday night (04/21), our dog Spicy was falling asleep in our arms from the discomfort he was feeling; our dog is hyperactive and extremely friendly. Based on the severity of our dogs' condition they took him right in to be seen. This type of care takes time, so we spent quite some time there. They offer water/coffee and other snacks to your disposal. Bathrooms were clean and the staff was well informed to keep us up to date with our dogs care. Unfortunately, our pet came in very sick that night and he had to be euthanized. The care and compassion that their team offered us was incredible that night. My family's emotions and discomfort were immense but they did the most to assure we felt as comfortable as possible in this extremely difficult moment. I would like to give this veterinary clinic 0 stars, just like so many others have said. These people are unscrupulous and cruel. I brought my dog 2:00 a.m., and three hours later, a couple arrived with their dog and were taken in and treated before my puppy, who was dehydrated and lethargic. The veterinarian did not even come over to ask about our situation. We ended up leaving without receiving any care at all. They even had so many lit candles at the front desk for deceased pets. Sadly my experience here really put a bad taste in my mouth. As pet owners we take our pets to the vet because we love our animals and expect to be taken seriously by professionals. Our dachshund puppy was born with a rare congenital condition, we were willing and ready to do all that was needed to try to fix it, otherwise the puppy would have died. As a EMERGENCY facility, proper surgeons should be on call for time sensitive situations like we had. We had to wait from Saturday to Monday to meet with the surgeon which informed us she wasn't doing surgery till the next day. They all knew the time crunch we were on with the puppy and were so blessed that the puppy was even still alive. Unfortunately the morning of the surgery the puppy's vitals dropped and had signs of sepsis which could have been avoided with surgery done in the timely manner. Our only option at this point was to euthanize the puppy. As much as we feel we did the best we could while trying to save its life, we failed due to our puppy's life not being taken seriously by the surgeon. We just want to say thank you to Dr. Canyamas for helping us through our first experience with euthanizing a pet. He showed us a lot of compassion and assured us we were doing the best thing at the time. However I would NEVER take my pets here. We should have listened to my guts and found a place that would perform emergency surgery. read more

I called to find out the cost of a ct scan for my cat, told them my Vet recommended she have a ct scan, they wouldn't tell me the cost of a scan, then my vet called and they wouldn't tell him either..... I had to bring her in for a "consultation" even though my Vet already deemed this necessary..... they wanted $135. consultation fee that wasn't needed, this was without asking one question about my cats condition ...we never were told what it would cost for a CT scan. I called 2 other places, they asked questions, history, my vet's name, etc. One only did CT scans for neurology, but asked everything about history. the other Vet office asked history, last blood work, Vet's name and gave me the cost and also told me, if a polypop was accessible and I wanted a biopsy it would be an additional $200..... Of course, this was all contingent on them getting her history from my Vet. Why couldn't MVS do this? This is not an inexpensive procedure, but because of them insisting on a $135. consultation fee, I'm going elsewhere where questions are asked without a "consulting fee"! MVS used to be the Gold Star for our kids needing help that your normal Vet doesn't have. I speak from experience, they treated one of my cats for thyroid radiation , which had had to be done 2x and another cat for cancer, which was chemo treatments. read more

lost my fifteen yr old buy Christmas morning last year and his dog brother is still with me but I know he misses his company too, I walked into this veterinarians office and when I went to check his cage he was dead. They knew he'd been undergoing chemo and Christmas Eve he was so weak I knew I had to do something but our regular vets office was closed I called one of the nurses and she told me to get him to the nearest 24/7 care to get him some fluids. When I arrived Christmas morning after they had him on fluids, he was dead in his cage, none of the staff even bothered to be watching him or even check on his cage and they knew we were willing to do a blood transfusion on him honestly have so many feelings about this that I probably won't ever be able to speak out loud about because I just don't know how to cope with pain of leaving him there to die alone around people who didn't give not one piece of their heart to take care of him like I would have, instead of my arms, instead of an ACTUAL ANIMAL PERSON. I cried the entire way home with his lifeless little body in a box, they tried throwing away the blanket I brought him in, before they boxed him up and handed him over to me. honestly the worst experience of my life. Do not bring your pets here unless your ready for them to die in a money pit run by people who don't even care to check on the animals in the cages in treatments in the back much less handle our emotions or their belongings after they've passed. If I could give zero stars, I would. I brought my dog to Miami Veterinary Specialists in an emergency situation, referred by my regular vet, and deeply regret it. Not only did this clinic show a complete lack of empathy during an already stressful time, but they also seemed far more focused on pushing inflated costs than providing compassionate care. The estimate shot up to over $6,000, and when I questioned the charges, the person handling the estimate was extremely rude and dismissive. When I asked about the addition of a neutering procedure, they brushed it off as being "cheap"--a completely inappropriate comment considering how much I was already being charged. There was no transparency, and no time given to consider other options. I was in emergency mode, and they took full advantage of that urgency. To make matters worse, they never returned my dog's collar or leash, and I've received no follow-up or apology. For a place that markets itself as a specialty emergency facility, they fall incredibly short of professional or ethical standards. I'm now even reconsidering my relationship with my regular vet for referring me here. Avoid this place if you can--there are better and more humane options out there. read more

My dog went into anaphylactic shock at 1:30 AM Saturday night. Body releasing from both ends until collapse. Ran her down to this place trusting they would properly care for her. Dr. suggesting xrays because her neck seemed sore on one side, take full blood panel etc. My husband's description made me think a bee could have stung her, but we had no proof. She is highly allergic to bees and had been there once before because of this. The Dr. didn't think very likely. More interested in tests, "putting the pieces of puzzle together" Meanwhile she's not getting fluids, nothing. They supposedly needed blood test results before could administer. What did I know. The place wasn't crowded, there were animals in the back, but fairly quiet for a Saturday night/Sunday morning. They had my girl in the back in a cage. I signed all paperwork with "proposed" procedures. My husband left to go back home to get my cell phone with her vet's number in it. I'm standing, waiting and I tried to make certain with the girl that dog was at least getting IV fluids. She told me nothing was done yet as we hadn't paid. I somewhat lost it and reiterated out loud "you haven't done anything to my dog yet because I haven't paid?! I've signed all the paperwork, why would not paying you yet prevent you from helping her?! I'm waiting on my husband to get back with my phone" I had just fallen out of bed and had nothing on me. Dr comes out to tell us her phosphorus levels and glucose were high and needs to be put on phosphorus binders. He was going around and around trying to "solve" the puzzle. Meanwhile dog just sitting in cage having diarrhea. I think we left at 4:15 AM and I said goodbye to my dog, still no fluids, nothing. I really don't know how she came out of the bee sting because they never gave her any cortisone/benedryl. They insisted she sty there because of phosphorus, glucose level and diarrhea. $$$$ Went home to bed, woke up a few hours later only to find a dead bee by her toys where she had been scratching before the anaphylaxis episode started. Took bee to Drs. They didn't think much of it. Still can't take her home. Had to wait until 2:00 PM for another phosphorus/ glucose reading. Around 3:00 got a call from another Dr. He said that her levels were normal and that I could come get her in an hour. This Dr. finally agreed that the bee could have been an issue regarding anaphylaxis. She has/had long hair and generally vets will wrap the hair in a nonstick tape. I had asked the girl before all this began to please tape her tail and rear end from the diarrhea. They did nothing. They cut off about 6 inches of hair from tip of tail and all around anal area. I know this is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but they had total lack of regard. Someone did try to braid either side of her rear end, which was at least an effort, but the rest was a chop job. I can't really care about the hair, but their mismanagement of her prognosis was unacceptable. Padding the bill with xrays, again when you're in shock what do you know? I forgot to add that along with shock we were already in, the girl comes out and tells us she has 3 staples in her stomach! I couldn't even imagine?! The Dr. came out a few minutes later to reassure us that the staples were not "in her stomach," that they were a certain type of staple that can be used when the dog is spayed. I'm so disappointed in this place I don't know what to think or do. I'm surprised I didn't get electrocuted the place is so shocking! I have no idea where I will take her now if God forbid another emergency arises. Very disconcerting. read more

I feel like it's a hard thing to accomplish, but this has to be the worst vet in all of South Florida. Besides lying to you about the estimates, you will need to constantly call them for updates (be prepared to always be placed on hold for 15 minutes or more), there is no communication between staff shift changes, and they will not give you an honest answer. After two days of this, I decided to take my dog out of their care to another vet. They told me if I did that he would likely die (due to his condition) on the 30 minute drive to the new vet. The vets and techs tried to convince me I would be signing his death warrant and that he needed at least 5 days more of oxygen and it would likely cost me another $15,000. It didn't make sense to me that after two days of care with them, his condition had deteriorated so much from I brought him in that he now couldn't survive a car ride, but they felt confident he would be fine after another 4-5 days. I knew something was off. Especially since the vet admitted that they had a lack of communication between the teams and that they were in the wrong about exceeding the quote without getting authorization (an ongoing issue). Ultimately, I took him anyways to the new vet after literally all their drama. Oh, and they refused to let me take my dog until I signed a release from liability. They don't care about your pet, they made a man do the same thing who just lost his dog. Long story short, my dog was provided proper care at Veterinary Emergency Group, and was home 24 hours after I dropped him off, oh, and it also only cost me $3,500 (cheaper than the 2 days my dog was at MVS and cheaper than the $20,000 total they said I would have likely ended up paying in their care). I'm telling you, avoid MVS at all costs. I have spoken to so many people who have had similar experiences at MVS. If you love your animal, avoid this place at all costs. read more

We were having a leisurely Sunday brunch at a friend's house in Coral Gables when his dog ate something he should not have. Friend called the regular vet, whose answering service directed us here. Off we sped! When we arrived, they took the dog right away. They have a triage sign in front so you know if you'll have to wait or can be seen immediately based on your pet's problem. Ingesting something toxic is TRIAGE LEVEL ONE! They put a charge for $450 on my friend's credit card and went off to induce vomiting. About 20 minutes later, we were escorted into a small room for a meeting with the vet tech and then the vet. The vet tech brought the results of the vomiting to us so we could inspect and confirm everything was thrown up (it was!). Then the vet came and gave us some follow up information and said they wanted to hold the little eating machine for another half hour or so for monitoring. We went to have lunch nearby and when we came back about an hour later, they trued up the bill. Incredibly, a refund of ~$225 was issued because the problem was totally straightforward and didn't require a lot of extra medication or care. One thing to note is that if your pet is triage level 1, they will drop everything to assist. If your pet is not at that level, or if the condition has stabilized, you will wait. It took a long time to get the dog after we checked out but that is completely understandable as they are busy with more critical issues. Just be prepared to wait and if you're waiting, be glad because it means your pet is out of immediate danger! The front desk staff, vet tech and vet were all empathetic, friendly and very knowledgeable. No one wants to go to the emergency vet, but these folks make it a less horrible experience. read more

MVS subjected my pet and my family to the most negative experience I have ever had in an emergency vet clinic. I will never go here again, and please do yourself the favor of finding any other emergency practice rather than waste time and money with this subpar clinic. After waiting more than an hour to see someone, the vet tech insisted I go home while my pet undergo a surgical procedure overnight. The vet (Dr. Anderson) and vet tech (Harold) both falsely reassured me that my 16-year old cat would be given something for her pain and "kept comfortable" until the surgery took place. This was a bold-faced lie. In the middle of the night, I woke up to a voicemail that their office had run out of oxygen in their oxygen tanks and had to postpone the procedure. To make matters infinitely worse, they had never given my senior cat any kind of pain medication or sedatives to alleviate her pain from a very serious and gruesome injury. I paid thousands of dollars (literally, $2,400+) for ridiculously subpar care, negligence, and shocking apathy. As a pet parent, this was a deeply distressing and traumatizing experience. The only person who showed any concern was Mattie, and I never received a follow-up phone call from the vet, the office manager, or any other member of the leadership team to explain why this happened or apologize for this disgusting and deplorable lack of professionalism. Do not go to this clinic, find a different Emergency Vet at all costs. If I could give ZERO stars, that would by my real rating, because that is all Miami Veterinary "Specialists" deserves. My Pomeranian puppy broke his leg on Tuesday and they saw him within minutes of walking into the clinic. Dr. Andrade performed his surgery and did a beautiful job. On Dec. 4th, 2024, I arrived at MVS with my 6-year-old cat, who was suffering from constipation. He was admitted & on Dec. 9th released. During those 4 days, I was advised that he was being medicated, enemas were administered & DE obstipated. 4 days & $4,532.68 later, he was released Supposedly, they were able to get Timmy to defecate & told me his colon was no longer impacted and had an empty colon. Timmy was covered in feces, and urine & smelled like a septic tank, because they weren't able to clean him. Upon arriving at home, he was lethargic & couldn't walk. I was shocked to see the 3rd degree burns on his legs, paws, underneath his paws, belly & bottom, it was heartbreaking. I called MVS & was told it was normal, to just keep an eye on him, he was in pain. I bathed him & administered ointment, the fur from his legs & belly had fallen off & his skin was raw. The next day, I left a message for a Doctor to call me back. I never received a callback. Timmy suffered 3rd degree burns due to being neglected, leaving him lying in his feces & urine for hours and/or days. After two days at home, his tummy was hard as a rock & swollen like a balloon, I rushed him to my primary Vet, x-rays showed a full colon & twisted intestines, The Vet was shocked, said she had never seen this, she immediately released some of the pressure with a syringe, she advised immediate transport to the to ER he was in a very serious condition, a matter of life and death. I was NOT going to go back to MVS, so my Vet recommended LeaDER in Broward. I rushed over, they were amazing, and when we arrived, they were ready for us. Due to their attention, Timmy is alive today. A scan showed he had a hole in his stomach, which led to bacteria entering his stomach, producing a sepsis infection, which is life-threatening. To this day, it is unknown what produced this hole. I had picked him up from MVS 2 days prior; something was overlooked or produced while he was in MVS, which caused this drastic condition. The surgeon at LeadER explained that some medications can cause the hole; one of those medications was administered at MVS. The surgery team at LeadER, an amazing group of specialists, performed the surgery; thanks to them, Timmy is alive. Timmy was given a 50/50 chance of survival, not knowing if he would survive the sepsis infection. To say the least, I was devastated. He spent 4 days at the hospital. No one knows what happened at MVS, my cost was an extra $16,000 to save my kitty's life, but with a positive outcome so worth it, not like at MVS where I paid to cause Timmy pain & suffering. It is a mystery; no cancer or cysts were found & megacolon was not diagnosed. What caused that hole? Only MVS can answer that question. One of the attending Doctors at MVS recommended I put him to sleep to avoid costs since it was expensive, &would continue spending money on him. As I was processing his comment, my stomach turned over in disgust. I had an urge to pick Timmy up, but he was not the only Doctor attending to Timmy. A dedicated, caring, loving, passionate, and committed Vet's purpose would be to SAVE a life, NOT to END it unnecessarily. I never mentioned the cost or questioned it, I immediately said "YES" without hesitation to everything that entailed helping Timmy. Saving my pets' lives is priceless! The $4 thousand plus that I was charged at MVS was wasted & led me to spend another $16,000 to save Timmy. I'm thankful and grateful to @leadER for their professionalism, care, love, kindness & quick actions for Timmy's amazing recovery. He is happy, healthy & enjoying life! The pictures attached are of Timmy's paws, tummy, bottom & paw beans. He couldn't walk. Even LeadER's team asked how he had gotten those burns. Luckily, he was under their care, so they made sure to monitor him, ensuring that an infection would not take place. The blisters scabbed, it took more than a month to heal & months for his fur to grow back. MVS is a torture chamber. I am not letting this go. I will be filing complaints. You have been warned, don't place your fur babies in danger, & don't expose them to pain & suffering! read more

They charged me $2600 saying my dog had a neurological condition when it was just she was in labor and I have no proof but I think they stole one of her puppies saying it died. They sent me a blurred photo and never showed me the puppy when I came to the location. Our 16 (plus) year old Havanese/Coton mix, Theo, grabbed an entire pork rib and swallowed it whole. We rushed him to MVS. Dr. Perez managed Theo's case from inception to discharge and he was fantastic. He prepared us for the possibility of surgery, but wanted to wait a bit. He said dogs often dissolve these bones on their own. He introduced us to Dr. Andrade, who would do the surgery if necessary. She concurred with Dr. Perez about waiting and watching. I was impressed by this. A surgeon likes to do surgery. A really smart, on top of her game surgeon, knows when to wait and watch. The two doctors were right. Theo began to dissolve the bone on his own, and after a couple of nights in the hospital they discharged him. He is back home and acting like nothing ever happened. Dr. Perez even went in one morning on his day off just to check on Theo before discharging him. He kept us informed every step of the way. We cannot thank Dr. Perez and Dr. Andrade enough for being so caring, so professional, and for bringing their education and experience to bear. We are enormously grateful. read more

These people are the absolute worst. They prey on the fact that our fur babies are ill, and they try to squeeze every last dollar that they can. When I took my little guy in the doctor knew PERFECTLY well that he had been diagnosed with leukemia (I had not been informed) and that he did not need a CT scan. I left Jack there and was charged almost $2,500.00 for the scan. Thankfully, as I was driving home, I had an epiphany and I realized something was terribly wrong. I went back to get Jack, and they were not pleased at all. They made me sign a form stating that I was taking MY DOG, against their "medical expertise". I told them that they better refund my payment, and that I would never use their services again. I then went back to Knowles and explained the situation, and that's when I found out that Jack's blood work had revealed leukemia. The vet at Knowles started the problem by not revealing the diagnosis, and he referred me to these horrible people. Be very careful! read more

To begin with the diagnosis from the vet was very ambiguous but the first thing they want you do is to pay then see and treat your pet. we unfortunately agreed to leave our pet.. It was extremely difficult to communicate with them for updates. the first night I called, I was put on hold for about 30 minutes. I called back and I was told they will call me back. It happened until the next day. The message that the Dr. leaved was wrong because he was talking about a test that was not done. It was another test. The communication, care and professinalism of the staff was very poor. Now I am calling to talk to the manager but I has been pu on hold several times. DO NOT GO THERE! I have been there twice the first time, I was there for 6 hours before I saw a vet only to be told I need an xray but we are on shift change so wait a while longer. The second time was for a consultation regarding my dogs torn CCL, they had to knock my dog out to get a proper X-ray. The vet tech came back out almost dragging my still out of it dog to the waiting room. She already is having a tough time getting around and I guess they couldn't wait for her to come to before they got her up and moving. I had to ask to speak to the surgeon/vet. Now, upon getting home my dog is worse then when I brought her in and in a tremendous amount of pain. I'm not sure what they did but I will not be going back! read more

Yes, this is a emergency room and hospital, and not where anyone wants to have to be with their pet. That being said our experience was an exceptional one. The many visits and procedures our sweet baby had at MVS over the course of multiple weeks with the ER, Internal Medicine, Surgery and Oncology teams were not easy, but all were handled with genuine care and professionalism. I would recommend MVS to anyone whose pet needs emergency or specialty care. read more

I had to rush my dog to an ER due to a scare we had. Upon entering the rude lady at the front desk told me it was a 3 hr wait before being seen. I looked around and saw other frustrated patrons also worried about their loved pets. We proceeded to enter our dog into the que because we wanted to get help. Around 30-45 minutes after I asked the lady how much longer to at least be seen and she responded that it there were many folks ahead and I had the option to go elsewhere and no one was keeping me there. Super rude. This was heard being told to several people during the night when they just wanted an update on their pets. Save your time and go somewhere else. read more

I've been here over 3 hours with my dog with what seems to be a broken paw! Not only they're inefficient considering they're an emergency vet specialist center, but the people at the front desk have a terrible attitude. They're cynical and they could care less! This is the last time I bring one of my four dogs here! Stay away if you care about your pet! read more

i was told my dog was stable so she was not seen. if i could give 0 stars i would. i called prior to visit and told them her symptoms, they sent me a link to complete and told me she would be seen right away because i prefilled so i followed as instructed. this place popped up first on google so i drove 30 minutes from my home to get there. i walked in behind another pet owner and they took her pet right away. i told them i prerigestered and was told to wait in the waiting room. 40 minutes went by and another pet owner walked in with her cat, they took her pet right away. i told the receptionist that i've been waiting for awhile and would like to know how long it would take for me to get some help. my dog was wheezing, had labored breathing and had multiple frosty emesis from earlier. she told me my dog looked stable and that the lady's pet was an emergency! i asked her if 4 more pets came in with distress are they still going to bypass my pet and she said yes. welp two more pets came in, one had a seizure which they took right away and the other had the same symptoms as my pet. i asked if they had techs that could fast track. she ignored me. i took a seat and a tech came out and went straight to the other pet with the same symptoms as my dog followed by a second tech. at this point i felt like these people were blatantly racist! yes the entire team was consist of hispanics!!! they assessed the dog and went to the back, got them registered and continued to ignore my dog. i finally left and took my pet to another hospital!!! this was a terrible experience and shame on the staff. read more

From the moment I stepped in the door, I was checking her in and one of the doctors came over to look her over. We were in a room for a little bit, but after they took her back, another doctor came in about how long her issues have been bothering her skin and now her skin on her back between her haunches. The doctor said her wound spot is really angry and really inflamed. He came in with a plan of action, and recommended I see a dermatologist since we've tried everything from baths, to pills, to shots, to food, to Omega 3 supplements and bathing her with keterolac... nothing. The staff at Miami Vet Specialists have been beyond amazing, comforting, and patient! I haven't even left yet, but I'm so so happy I came across them for this incident! And it's not gonna be as expensive as other Vet ER's go. And it's 24 hours! I couldn't recommend this place any more! Thanks to the staff and doctors who helped my Cookie, and helped to calm me down as well! read more

My dog Marley was not well. I rush him to MVS and learned my dog had heart failure, all staff were organized and prepared even got support by two very special people Jorge Larin and Ms. Puig, and one VET who did the exam and reported to me on my Yorkie's heart condition. THankfully for the love and support by the staff. read more
