Worth the wait! Yes, I waited over 2 hours for a blow out, but it was totally worth it. Located in the heart of Chinatown, you walk up the stairs to a small little salon. They are constantly busy no matter what time you come. You get a number, so I recommended to get your number and come back after an hour or so, there are plenty of little shops and restaurants, nearby and come back. They don't take appointments. As there are no public bathrooms in the area, they let you use yours and I was able to charge my phone while I waited. Once you're in, you get the BEST scalp massage and shoulder massage. I think I was massaged for at least a good 30 min, then you get your blowout, so expect to be pampered on for a good 45 min. I was in desperate need of a haircut and I needed to find a new place that could take care of my hair with layers, full highlights, and a cut for a decent price. The hair salon doesn't take appointments but they take walk ins. I heard that they did take reservations when it comes to highlights but there was a weird miscommunication about that. We were able to be served that day but an hour later which was perfectly fine. I love how friendly and professional the person doing my hair was. I loved how the hair washing stations had seats that you could lie down on so it doesn't feel like you're breaking your neck when they shampoo you. I love that they went the extra mile while taking care of my hair and making sure that it looked extra nice that day. They also used a toner which was super helpful and even though it burned my scalp a little, it was worth it. I am so happy with my experience that I know I will be back again for another hair treatment. This is by far my favorite place to come and unwind for a little self care. Wash, blowout and style runs about $40 and takes about 45 minutes. What to expect: If it's busy they will have you take a number deli-counter-style. We showed up at 11am on a Monday and there was only a 5 minute wait for 4 of us. You'll sit in a regular barbershop chair and get THE MOST AMAZING NECK AND SHOULDER MASSAGE OF YOUR LIFE Massage lasts like 5-10 minutes and is just so so good. After that, they'll start shampooing your hair right there in the chair. Once your hair is sudsed up, they'll move you over to a washing area with a sink. You'll lie down and get your hair scribed more, conditioned, and a little scalp massage. Again, so so good. Once your hair is rinsed, you'll go to another chair with another stylist and prepare for the blowout of your life. Do not get a haircut here. I asked for a trim and just a little bit of layers to diffuse the ends. I think I had Wilson, my hair is absolutely botched and there's a 6+ inch difference between the shortest and longest layer and i've never seen such an uneven haircut in my life. I have been patronizing this salon for years. This is the first time I am appalled at how poor the customer service is. For once, the owner wasn't around and it looks like his staff decided to be rude to customers. They were non communicative about wait times and the number of people in line. They let someone who wasn't even waiting in the salon to get their haircut first, and started becoming combative and yelled when asked for reasons. This place services both men and women, but when I've been there it skewed slightly more female. People at Mian Tian Sing have been extremely friendly and my haircuts have been good, but on a couple occasions the guys cutting my hair maybe weren't as clear about my requests in English - I resorted to a photo of me from an earlier favorite cut from elsewhere to ensure the barber knew what I wanted. Would recommend coming equipped with the same if you come here. Basic men's cuts prices are extremely affordable, especially if you're on a budget, but unsure how Mian Tian Sing's women's service prices stack against elsewhere. They also have a frequent customer card that gives your 11th cut free. My partner and I found this hair salon through tiktok. It seemed interesting since the salon was promoting shampoo + massage. I got the cut + shampoo which was $45 not including tip. They got shampoo + blow dry which was $35. The pricing for the two services is mediocre. $45 for the cut + shampoo is understandable. Unfortunately... $35 for shampoo and dry was not it. The massage wasn't so great, it was more of just constantly massaging the same place for 5 minutes. The regular price for a regular 10-minute massage was $10, meaning that the massage included in this service equals $5. There was no styling or anything done for that service package. It seems absurd to have the two services priced differently by $10. For the $45 cut + shampoo was good. My stylist Allen took his time and trimmed and styled my hair. As for the massage since that is what most of the people who came in today was interested in, it seemed as if they blew up on tiktok recently/paid for that video to be made because the ladies who do the massages were very amateur and felt as if they were forced to learn to massage recently. As said before they massaged the same spot for the entire 5 minutes. There wasn't really anything relaxing about the massage as they couldn't really adjust their strength. This is the Japanese straightening treatment. My hair is not straight it's in random kinky coils and completely fried in a stiff bush. My hair doesn't even move anymore. I've been going to several different hair salons trying to find "the one" and let me start by telling you that this place is viral on tik tok but for the wrong reasons. You go to a hair salon, you should expect a solid haircut. Bunch of their reviews are influenced by the EPIC massage they give. It's really nice and better than some of the masseuse i've seen. They're also very thorough with their hair wash, they start pretty much at the right intensity and started to hurt towards the end of 10 minutes. Now the HAIRCUT. Jacky doesn't speak any English so there was a big language barrier. Even then, my hair should be cut straight, right? Nope, there are some bundles of strands of hair that are randomly longer than the others. He cuts mainly standing IN FRONT of you, which is weird, but in the moment, I thought it was interesting and might be the technique these days. He's crouching in the front, hovering, squatting. When you put all my hair to the back, you can clearly see that my hair isn't cut straight. Blowout. He does an OK job with the blowout. I smelled my hair burning. He used the round brush, but my hair at the roots ended up being very FLAT. Sure I could be used to my regular $110 haircuts at & Hair Salon with Kelly (& someone else before she moved to Florida). Yes the haircut and dry is 1.5 hours and they're more detail oriented. No they don't give massages or long hair washes. But I go to them for hair CUT and they nailed the hair cut. This is probably the worst experience in a hair salon I've ever had. Don't believe the TikTok hype please...I get into the salon, I take a number like I'm at the deli, and I have a seat. About 40 min later, I take a seat. I get shampooed, which wasn't the most relaxing but then begins the head massage. This was the only good part of my experience. I'm then seated with a different 'stylist.' And explain I'm here for a blowout. Since my sisters wedding was next week and I didn't think it was possible to mess up a trim, I asked him to remove my split ends. I showed him how much I wanted removed with my fingers. He stared at me blankly. I then realize he doesn't speak English. Not an issue at this point--he grabs his coworker who repeats what I asked for IN ENGLISH. Sir, you are here to translate. Man proceeds to remove 6 inches in one slice. I panic and ask him to stop. My hair is now at a downward angle. The way he is moving--I don't think he's ever cut hair in his life before. I ask the stylist to proceed with blowout. My god. He pulls out a round brush with large clumps of blonde hair and someone's extension hanging off of it. Aghast...I ask for a clean brush. Stylist is now mad. And comes back with a brush with appears to have a human rat tail hanging off. The girl next to me getting her is seeing this in real time and equally disturbed. I step out of the chair and try to explain to another staff member that I'd like to cut my losses and leave. It is clear I didn't receive the blowout...as my hair is one large pouf at this point. Although my hair was wrecked, I of course was willing to pay for shampoo/massage. I am quoted $50 (TikTok quotes $25 for wash including massage, and dry). The sign at the store however gives a range... meaning you'd pay up to $40 for this package. Now remember...I didn't get the blowout. All I've received is the wash and haircut I didn't ask for. The hair cut/wash is $17-25 according to the salons sign. I am confused. The owner/staff member becomes belligerent, stating that I must pay. I'm still calm at this point...mostly out of shock. I then tell him I will pay for the blow dry, only if I receive the blow dry. He said I have to wait 1 hour. I explain I can't do that but I am willing to pay the price for the cut/wash even though that is not what I asked for. He then says he will give me $5 off...of $50... for the blowout I never got??? I'm sad at this point as I still need to fix my hair...my sisters wedding is in a week...and this man clearly sees I didn't get the blow dry nor is my hair cut normal. He let the girl behind me pay with card, but said I was only allowed to pay in cash. Her service was $35 ie less than mine...so didn't make sense I could only pay cash. Although my hair was ruined and this was frustrating, I was most upset at the treatment I received and lack of accountability on their end. TLDR: 1.) If you go in part because of TikTok, do not get anything but a blow dry and be aware you are going to a salon with unsanitary conditions 2.) I think your experience here will be different..if you are not a white or East Asian TikTok girlie. 3.) I had a poor experience here despite having low expectations and being accommodating. The wash and massage were 8/10 then when it came to blow drying, my hair was dried with the blower then curled with a wand and straightener WHICH I disliked because that's definitely not what they promote after 30 min of leaving the salon my hair had lost it 3 pieces of volume, called back while on my way to jersey ( 1 hours drive ) he said I could come back, when I did - I was told to go to the same guy who initially did my hair. He was trying to curl it with the wand I told him I rather curl it with the blower, he did it and the curls again last for 20 min after leaving, at this point I didn't even bother calling back. The salon itself: On the 2nd floor, it was busy but very quick wait time (I only waited for 5 min tops to be serviced). It's clean and efficient. The staff (shampooers and hair stylists) are professional and friendly. The shampoo stations are so so comfortable! You can lie down in a sleep-position while they wash and condition your hair. Price & results: I love how my hair turned out! They do a beautiful blowout, hair comes out voluminous and wavy.
