I wanted to try out this place for the longest. Finally one day I was in the area. I bought a slide of tiramisu cheesecake and it was so sweet. I would give it 5/10. I'm a cake lover and cheesecake is my fav but this slice was extremely sweet and too much for me. The slice was also tiny considering it was around $6. But they packaged it very nicely and securely so that's a plus. I'll be back to try some other types. read more

Im OBSESSED with this bakery. I have bought birthday cakes here...cup cakes...cookies pie omg THE BANANA PUDDING IS JUST AMAZING. I bought one and shared it with a friend who is now going out of her way to buy from this bakery lol. The staff is incredibly friendly and as sweet as the products they sell. Sis had mentioned this to me but with a penchant for pastries and a sometimes forgetful memory, I always get excited when my Yelp app reminds me of a new bakery. Mia's Bakery, new to Smith Street, apparently aims to be a dessert cavern. The right side of the store is a coffee counter, where you can order all sorts of coffee drinks. The left side contains 6 display cases highlighting cut slices and Italian style cookies, even baklava, muffins and cupcakes. Mia is ambitious in its endeavors to offer a myriad of cakes, pies and all sorts of desserts. One could probably eat a different type of cake or cookie for a month and still have a new type to choose from next month. The storefront itself holds three display cases of whole cakes, in case you want more than a slice. Unfortunately for Mia's bakery, offering such quantity and variety can mean holding a vast supply of inventory, unless you have the turnover. A baker myself, I was curious if the quality stood up to the diversity offered. Sadly, the one thing I tasted did not and it didn't compel me to try anything else. Firstly, I am always suspicious when baked goods such as layer cakes and cupcakes are refrigerated. For the store, it's a way of stretching the freshness, but as a customer, I don't want to eat a cold piece of cake or cupcake, especially one with buttercream and frosting. It would have been smarter for the store to freeze the cupcakes, and defrost them and then frost them. I only had a cold cupcake once in Ottawa, and surprisingly, it was good. Mia's red velvet cupcake, sold cold, sadly was not. As a baker who uses quality ingredients, I was disappointed to taste cake that had a cold clamminess and not a hint of cocoa or butter. What did peep through was the stale refrigerator taste. The cake itself was flavorless and left me with a greasy feeling, as if I had eaten shortening mashed with flour. I actually drank green tea later, to cut the taste of oil in my gut. The frosting itself was only okay. I could have been eating a generic cupcake from a supermarket bakery. I was quite surprised by the high Yelp reviews. Maybe it isn't fair to rate a place based on one cupcake but I have also judged other bakeries by one item and haven't been off. At $2.95 a cupcake and $5.75 a slice of cake, Mia needs to ramp up the quality, especially with so many Court St bakeries only one block away. I don't know if Mia can scale back and sacrifice variety for freshness; perhaps so many offerings are required to pay the rent. The place is clean and huge, with seating in the back and even a garden. Service was friendly and pleasant. It's a pretty place to linger in over dessert and coffee. I'm sorry Mia couldn't deliver in taste. I might come back to try a coffee but seriously doubt I'd try the desserts again, unless I saw the place was packed and desserts were moving. read more

This is my go to bakery! Open late and delivers, what else could I ever want. If you are going for the first time and you can only get one thing, I recommend the tres leches cupcake (really moist, and perfect). Lately I've been getting the blueberry crumb pie, which is the best, not too sweet. Also, I've had the choco chip cookie, oatmeal raisin cookie, oreo cheesecake, and cannolis - all delicious! read more

The most OVER-RATED bakery in New York and I am serious. I tried about 7 different items from this bakery including cakes and trust me I do not ever want to go back to this bakery again. No offense but I do not know what kind of people give this bakery 5 stars, I am sure these people have never tasted real cakes and pastries. Save your time and money and find another bakery. so far i've only tried the little tea cookies (sold by the pound) and the vegan spinach/kale pastry (savoury). the cookies were pretty standard (nothing special to write home about) but the savoury pastry was quite delicious. it's more substantial than a typical spanakopita, but not super oily or greasy. i also love that it's vegan! they've got a huge variety of tempting pastries and cakes as well which i'll have to swing by again to try, as well as a full service coffee bar. overall, a nice addition to the area and it's especially nice that it's open late! read more

Love their cakes especially the strawberry cheesecake and strawberry shortcake. Their cake pops aren't great though.

It's a known fact that a person's sugar tolerance is dependent on age and on nutritional needs. If you're a kid, you just won't appreciate more complex flavor palates. If you're starving, you're looking for as much bang for your caloric buck. If you're used to very sweet flavors, anything less-than will disappoint. I think Mia's fulfills if you fall into any of these camps - and a kid-friendly bakery is not to be scoffed at. But speaking as someone who can't exactly afford to consume refined sugar without it being sublimely worth it, I'd probably pass on Mia's in the future. There's a wide selection, and it all looks appetizing - which is a definite draw! The space itself is also cozy, clean, and large enough to relax in. But when it comes to the treats themselves, it's mostly an onslaught of sugar and not much else. Bien Cuit is across the street - try them! read more

We asked our hotel to direct us the the best place to get a delicious chocolate cake. We were informed Mia's was the place. We walked in and the staff was very friendly and accommodating to our dietary needs. The 7-layer cake really hit the spot. We also had a cappuccino with oat milk and it was wonderful. After a long day out running around I decided to relax and order in. After dinner I placed an order through yelp to Mias bakery to satisfy my sweet tooth. After an hour long wait, I called in to check on the ETA of my order, after all, how long should 2 cupcakes and a brownie really take? The woman on the phone was very nonchalant, placed me on hold for a whole 5 minutes which felt like an eternity only to come back on the line and dismissively say that the order never left, wouldn't be leaving due to no driver and I'd have to call grubhub to cancel it. These Aholes never had any thought to call me and inform me that the order couldn't be delivered after it was placed and payed for. Had me sitting around waiting for dessert that was never going to come. Very unprofessional. No courtesy and customer service. I wish I could say that the sweets spoke for themselves but I can't, and now I won't...ever. read more

A little overate in my opinion. I was on the mission searching for the best tiramisu there is in the city. So stop by here at night. Super easy to find a parking in the area which is a huge plus. I bought a hot latte, tres leches, and ofcourse the tiramisu to go. Tres Leches was alright. Latte was spot on, might actually go there for the latte again. The tiramisu, where do i start. In short, it was bad. That was my main reason there and it turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the night. I'm not a fans of having lady fingers on tiramisu. Usually its the first sign of showing they're arent good at making it. The tiramisu wasn't fresh at all, I'm not sure how long they been sitting there and it was unnecessarily sweet. Came here because I was at a dumpling spot around the neighborhood and saw it was open. Completely did not expect there to be so many varieties and it was all so great! In a group we got a slice of German chocolate cake, "blackout" cake (chocolate cake), Napoleon berry slice, and the BEST banana cream pie! The cakes we tried were good, but pretty average for the price. The vanilla bean was just OK, and the strawberry cake was pretty good, sweet but light. I wish I tried something more unique or just more variety in general, but we were too full from dinner. However, I like the atmosphere and the surrounding area. I ordered 4 cakes and some cupcakes for a baby shower. I absolutely this place! Best cakes ever! BUT they did mess up on one of my orders I asked for a pecan caramel cheesecake, I got a regular caramel cheesecake instead. I still loved it but wish we got what we ordered. The man that was bringing us the cake was sooooo slow!!!!!!! I don't know why he was moving like a snail! Watching him move was dreadful. BEST BAKERY!!!!!! To eat or to bring a great somewhere.....Mias is the best. Every single thing I have had there has been amazing and I think I've tried almost everything they have in their huge selection. You can get anything here: cookies, pies and cakes by the slice or whole cakes, cupcakes, cronuts, babka, and tons tons more.
