The updates here have changed the vibe and the food from MJ is still terrific. We had the escargot and honey brie to start then each ordered our own entrees - 16oz Prime NY strip, Duck and Gorgonzola tenderloin tips. All come with two sides. Terrific meal. Service was excellent. Great all around!

I lived in this area for 14 years and never knew this place existed. The food was exceptional! Our servers were on top of it, never letting our drinks get empty and regularly ensuring we had everything we needed. The restaurant itself has sections or separate rooms which helps keep the ambiance cozy minimizing the noise. If you're in the area, and need a nice place for a special dinner, don't let the location deter you. You won't regret it!

Truly outstanding. The service was perfect, very professional with frequent check ins and friendly conversation. The ambiance is lovely with low mood lighting and Italian influence pictures on the walls. The food? Stunning! I got the filet mignon cooked perfectly. We also got (not pictured) the calamari, onion rings, and baked Brie. Definitely recommend for an intimate date night out, or for our instance, a warm birthday dinner with family!

Atmosphere - Nice. The restaurant has speakeasy feel. As you enter, there is a small bar that seats roughly 6 people. From what I can tell there are two dining rooms, one a bit larger than the other Service - very good. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. What I most appreciated was that the service team worked together to support one another. Food - very good. I had the Beer and Cheddar soup as a starter. It was good, but somewhat bland. For my entree, I had one of the specials, which was called a Filet Mignon Oscar, with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. The filet was very good, as was the mashed potatoes and asparagus. Overall Value - Very Good! The prices are reasonable and the food very. I will definitely return.

For our first visit to MJ's as a special date night, we made a same-day reservation on a Thursday evening after 8pm. Service was warm and attentive, and we were seated at a booth. There was a group of about 10 other diners celebrating a birthday and another couple there for a romantic very-dressed-up date night. Decor oozed of classy+sassy Hollywood. We ordered the roasted garlic appetizer with fresh bread, roast duck with port wine glaze, the coq au vin blanc special, and crème brûlée. A fun amusé of pepper soup was complimentary. Beverages included prosecco (glass), Kentucky bourbon barrel ale (draft) and Courvoisier. We enjoyed everything and will definitely return. Will most likely need to procure a bottle of their special batch "Maker's Mark Michael John's Bradentucky bourbon whisky" !!

First time visit and I enjoyed the experience. We had a drink at the bar and we were the only guests there so it was nice as we could easily talk. I had a peach martini which was excellent. She shook it so well that ice crystals were on top, which was great. The four of us had a nice table and I liked that there was no music playing so we could easily talk. The servers all seem to share tables, so there was always someone helping us. The menu is very nice, with a variety of items. I started with the beer cheddar soup. I liked that they didn't take our entree order until we were done with our starter. While waiting for our starter, they brought out bread and butter, which was very good. They also gave us a complimentary small cup of broccoli cheddar soup. It was extremely salty. My beer cheddar soup wasn't what I had hoped, and my husband had ordered the tomato Gorgonzola soup and didn't care for it so we switched. Well...... I liked his soup less than I liked mine. I would get a salad next time. For my entree I chose the chicken cordon bleu which came with whipped potatoes and vegetables. Food arrived timely and our plates were nice and hot and so was the food. The portion was huge. I loved the carrot! The chicken was more coated and crunchy than I anticipated and not nearly enough cheese for me. The potatoes were good. Service was exceptional and atmosphere was very nice.

Our service was great. The atmosphere is upscale steak house. Still casual in Florida. We started with the wedge and they split it for us. My steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. The vegetables were fresh. The truffle fries are a must. My wife had the hog fish. It was delicious also. We highly recommend this place.

Kind of dissapointed. Had the Alaskan cod, it was overcooked and the lemon butter sauce had no flavor at all. Won't be going back.

We started with the carpaccio and artichokes to share: the carpaccio was pretty good, nothing too special. The artichokes were amazing. One of the best artichoke appetizers I've ever had. They were soft and tender and the sauce paired deliciously well. Very unique. I highly recommend trying. Scallop appetizer: the scallops were cooked very well, I thought the caramelized onions were not cooked that memorably, they also weren't my favorite pairing with this dish. The sauce was ok, the scallops were the star, the other components were not the best but I enjoyed the appetizer Shrimp and scallops linguine: (blackened) The shrimp and scallops were very tasty and well cooked. The pasta was al dente and sauce was good, maybe could use a bit of salt but the dish overall was very good. Gnocchi and medallions: the gnocchi was surprisingly good, it's hard to get good gnocchi but these were really good. The sauce was delicious!! And the medallions were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. I'm ordering this again when I come back. Sea bass: really good dish composition. The eggplant and zucchini ratatouille paired really good with the pesto and the mashed potatoes, and the star of the show was the fish, cooked really well and seasoned very nicely (got it blackened). Highly recommend. Brussels sprouts were also a really enjoyable side. I will happily come back :)

My wife let on it was my birthday, so there was a lot of gushing happy birthday wishes, which was OK. We started with Old Fashioneds, which were above average. We also enjoyed some nice reds with dinner. Our waitress also treated us to glasses of champagne as it was birthday. I'm not a huge champagne fan, bit this was very enjoyable. (I believe it was Banfi Champagne.) With nice tip, it was $370 for us. Our waitress was very nice, prompt and helpful. I enjoyed the filet with stuffed shrimp, which was all delicious. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Although I made our reservation through OpenTable and hadn't mentioned our anniversary, the staff quickly decorated our table with an anniversary sign and presented us with a card signed by many of the team members. They also surprised us with two complimentary glasses of champagne, a beautiful keepsake photo in a Fleming's anniversary frame, and a lovely box of chocolates to take home. Every thoughtful touch made us feel genuinely celebrated. Our server was kind, attentive, patient, and genuinely invested in making our evening special. He took photos with my camera, never rushed us, and made the entire dining experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. ### What We Ordered **Sage Advice Latte - 5/5** Rich, flavorful, and the perfect way to end dinner. **Would absolutely order again.** **On Cloud 9 - 5/5** Fun, refreshing, and delicious. **Would definitely order again.** **Crab Cakes - 3/5** The texture was softer than we prefer, and they tasted a little too fish-forward for our liking. **French Onion Soup (split for sharing) - 5/5** Excellent! They thoughtfully served it in two separate bowls, making it easy to share. **Definitely order again.** **Scallops with Mushroom Risotto - 3.5/5** The scallops were large and perfectly cooked. The mushroom risotto had wonderful flavor, but the rice was still a bit crunchy when I expected it to be creamy and tender. Because of the risotto, I probably wouldn't order this dish again. **Bone-In Ribeye - 4/5** Cooked perfectly to a warm pink medium with great flavor. While enjoyable, it wasn't as tender or as well marbled as we'd hoped, so we'd likely try a different steak next time. **Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Bacon - 5/5** Absolutely amazing! One of our favorite dishes of the evening. **A must-order.** **Cheesecake - 5/5** Rich, dense, creamy, and absolutely delicious. **We'd order this again without hesitation.** Overall The service and attention to detail truly elevated our anniversary celebration. While a couple of dishes weren't quite what we expected, the outstanding hospitality and thoughtful anniversary touches made this a wonderful experience. We also enjoyed the live music, which added to the ambiance without overpowering conversation. We noticed Fleming's offers a separate lunch menu and bar menu, so we'll definitely be back to explore those on another visit. **Overall, this was a 5-star experience for us.** Not every dish was a favorite, but the combination of exceptional service, thoughtful hospitality, delicious food, and the warm atmosphere made our anniversary one we'll remember.

The restaurant was not super busy upon arrival so it was rather upsetting that our server were wouldn't spend more than 20 seconds at time. When he did inquire how everything was, we started talking and he walked away from the table before we could even get two words out. The Voodoo shrimp, Fried Green Tomatoes, and bisque were delicious. The steaks were seasoned beyond belief to where you couldn't even taste the steak flavor, garlic mashed potatoes had zero flavor and tasted as though they were water logged. The "loaded" baked potato had about a teaspoon of toppings that I stretched out to cover the top. The asparagus was extremely thick, firm, and flavorless. A leader stopped by at the end of the meal to inquire, we politely gave feedback but there was a unbothered reception by the lead. "Next time" was used in her response. She did offer to put a new steak for my dad on the grill, but by this time we were at the end of our meal and at this point ready to leave. There are too many options in Sarasota and the area's Keys to visit with better food and service.
