I'm going out on limb here and saying whoever gave the bad reviews I saw were bitter because the prices were little bit on the higher side and absolutely doesn't understand Italian food. Google seems to be more accurate in regard to the ratings. We ate here yesterday and I must say we were pleasantly surprised. The Italian food at this restaurant is better than the other Italian restaurants in St Armand's circle hands down. The service was on point, our waitress was great,and the ambiance was very nice. We ordered the veal which was tender and pretty decent, the chicken parm was tender and as good as you get, my pasta fagoli was full of flavor, the lasagna was great and I would order it 10x over, hot or Lukewarm, the Caesar was good, our tiramisu was delicious and and memorable. I'm not sure why folks want to trash this place on Yelp, it so much matches the 4.7+ stars on Google reviews. The decor and ambiance of The restaurant is great, the staff was very attentive and Ender was an amazing server and quick to help us through the dinner service. We started with the Eggplant Parmesan and you can tell the sauce was homemade. The rucola salad was extremely fresh and our family had the homemade lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo, fettuccine with Bolognese and the veal with white wine sauce and capers. All of it was delicious. The fettuccine pasta is homemade, and you can absolutely taste it in the dish. Ignore the 1-star Karens who reviewed this place, maybe they were having a bad day. You've gotta check this place out and support a family-owned and local staple of St. Armands Circle. read more

I can confidently say this place is one of the worse restaurants I have ever been! I don't understand how they got 4.9 rating on google! I would definitely give 5/5 stars for the service! She's very kind and sweet. Now we on the food, it's TERRIBLE! Mine was the worst out of all the dishes. I got special of the day! It's seafood pasta! And the mussels basically had no meat on it and when they do, it's mushy and fishy! The portion was so small and depressing but I assume they do smaller portion which is fine! But for $48 for this dish? Now thats unreasonable. It's mostly mussels shells, couple shrimps and 2 clams! And there are way better places than this place and couple bucks cheaper!!! My husband's lasagna was supposed to be one of the famous dish I guess and it was cold! The only thing that's good is the pizza I guess. The whole vibe was off and we all were not satisfied at all! We did not want to cause a scene or anything so we will just finish our food and leave (we don't want to waste food nor money) Ooh the water was terrible but we got tap water. The server said they tried their best to filter it, but I feel like they might (maybe) do it on purpose so you will spend on this $9 sparkling water. We were happy to walk into Nonno's lovely space on a busy Monday, and we were seated immediately (opted for indoor). We were greeted promptly by our nice server, whose name I believe was Shai; we ordered the limoncello martini, "flirtini" martini--raspberry vodka, pineapple juice, lime and prosecco--and a Peroni, all were good and served with fresh warm bread and butter, which we enjoyed. We liked our meals--fresh ravioli funghi in a cream sauce, fresh gnocchi with short rib ragout, and Chicken alla Milanese. We would have liked a salad first or appetizers, but the menu doesn't really offer something like a side salad--ordering a Caesar salad was an additional $16. Desserts looked delicious but started at $16, as well. Overall a pleasant experience--would be a nice place to go on a date, too. read more

Outstanding Italian! Service was wonderful- attentive and social. The food was excellent. Had the prosciutto, melon and burrata. So tasty- the melon was ripe and perfect with the prosciutt and cheese. Our drinks were enjoyed by all- some wine and martinis. Smooth and tasty. We all chose pasta for tonight's meal- Special was gnocchi with sausage and broccolini. We also dined on gnocchi and Short rib, linguine w/bolognese, and mushroom ravs. The gnocchi were light, and just wonderful. Reminded us of home. The mushroom ravs- were so perfect in a rich cream sauce. The bread served at table was so refreshingly fresh and delish- not some frozen roll...! Served with olive oil and olive tapenade. Desserts- were shared- pistachio tartufo, limoncello cake, and mousse cake. Each tasty and enjoyed- sweet, but not overly- tartufo refreshing. Also had espresso with dessert- delish. First, service was perfect! From greeting us upon arrival, to when we left every person was so friendly! The atmosphere is lovely. The lighting and decorations are comfortable and beautiful. The food was simply delicious drinks perfect. The prices are reasonable (we are at St Armand's circle so expect prices everywhere to be a bit higher!) Lasagna, pizza and gnocchi were superb! We went for Valentines Day to support this recently reopened business on St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota. The service was remarkably fast (almost too fast!). We sat outside and there was a singer which added to the romantic atmosphere. Indoors was quite crowded. The house wine was good ($15!), the house salad was delicious, but unfortunately we were not pleased with our meals. I had Ravioli Funghi which was quite dry, and my husband had what in most restaurants is his regular order and favorite meal, Fettuccine Bolognese, but it was basically without flavor. A disappointment. I am hoping the chef can turn things around so they can be super successful! In the meantime I can't give them any more than three stars. read more

Terrible experience from start to finish. Will never be back and do not see this restaurants lasting more than a few months. Food was terrible. Salad was warm and cheese tasted spoiled. The lasagna was inedible-the meat tasted old. The veal was most definitely undercooked and could not be eaten. Water was rancid. Service was lackluster. Other tables were complaining as well. The owners have to attempt to add reviews to make it look better than it is because I cannot imagine anyone actually enjoying this place. So expensive too. I could not believe how much they were charging for such small portions. There are much better Italian restaurants nearby. Our appetizers arrived before we even had water, the olive oil was not actually olive oil, when the Maine meals arrived we had to ask somebody to clear out the appetizer plates to set the meals down because it was like they didn't understand they couldn't just set the main meal plates on top of the appetizer plates The ambience in there should've been an indicator that this was not gonna be a place that paid attention to details, which is what you need for a great restaurant. We tried Nonno for first time. Unfortunately the food was very, very bland and disappointing. The pour on our glasses of wine were minimal for $18/per. The broth with the mussels was tasteless, watered down and the dish was cold. We also had the Veal Saltimbocca. The sauce was tasteless and watery with no flavor. this was such a good restaurant in Sarasota! Went here on Valentine's Day as a walk in and they were happy to accommodate us! We sat on the porch which had heaters & the wait staff was super kind, attentive and personable. Bread was served as soon as you were seated and food came out fast. Cocktails were very good as well. Vibe inside the restaurant was casual but also very busy which was great because it was Valentine's Day! They even gave us a rose when we checked in. Unfortunately, my first time dining experience here was not a positive one. It started with a flippant host who sat us at a hi top table that was completely out of balance. He unsuccessfully tried to fix but sat us there anyway. We moved ourselves to the bar and I must say the bartender was wonderful. Now the food. I started with the ceasar salad which I found to be on the dry side and with croutons that seemed to be out of box. Also, The portion was for a kid's meal. Then the entree. Short rib gnocchi. Sounds delicious but far from it. There were barely visible strands of what might have been the short rib. I'm not sure. The sauce was very acidic and bland. Like something from a can. Not saying it is but it sure tasted like it. I mean no harm with this review but it is just my opinion. I didn't return the food because I was quite hungry and didn't want to wait. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. The place was crowded and seems to be a popular. Try it out and hopefully you'll have a better experience than mine. read more

My husband and I dined here last night. We have eaten at most of the places on St Armands and this ranks at the top of the list. If you want great AUTHENTIC Italian with more than accommodating service, this is the place to go. Homemade pasta and homemade tomato sauce (bolognese, to be exact), whereas other places we have been to around there just open a can of tomatoes and tomato sauce and call it homemade - this was not the case. I was feeling more needy than usual last night and wanted steak and homemade pasta and they made it happen for me, no questions asked. On the upside, the restaurant's renovation is gorgeous. After that, everything went downhill. There were four of us and the reservation was for 6:30. We were immediately offered the seat directly behind the hostess podium. I asked for another and was offered another undesirable seat. There were numerous tables that were better situated and we were finally offered one. If you like high priced, slow service and mediocre food served barely warm and an extremely loud environment, this is the place for you. The owner's excuse was they have a full house, and Italian food takes longer to cook. I suggested they do not take reservations for a full house since obviously the kitchen and staff cannot keep up. We were excited to try out the new Nonno Umberto restaurant on the circle and it did not disappoint!!! Everything was great: all of the staff was very friendly, our server John was a delight, the food was delicious and served in a timely manner, and the decor was beautiful (loved the chandeliers & the tile on the bar)! Despite being filled with many diners, the noise level was still fine. They also have plenty of tables outside - with heaters! We look forward to dining here again!! read more

I ordered an Alfredo dish (gluten free) & when it arrived the sauce was excellent but the noodles were not cooked thoroughly that were like chewing rubber. I mentioned it to the waitress & she said you need it cooked more & I said yes. I waited & waited. It took me 30 mins to chew my way through the pasta. I took it for granted that she would bring out cooked pasta & she only came back to offer water & the bill. No apologies. I will never go back. read more

So nothing is included and they go out of their way on the menu to stress that there are no substitutions. Wow, so friendly (not). My wife did like their lasagna (which came with nothing and was $31), but their salads and soup were something you can get anywhere. Wow, did they try to upsell just about anything. Waiter could not be found, even to take the payment. So we had to get up and find him. Loser. There are several bathrooms. Avoid the one of the right. Not sure they could make it any smaller than it is. At some point a staffer was using a broom to clean the sidewalk just a few feet from the tables. Sure I'd like a little more dust on my salad! This was probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and we eat out very often. The food was mediocre at best, drinks overpriced, portions are ridiculously small (Caprese app...3 tiny half slices of "fresh" mozzarella and 4 half slices of tomatoe (four people at the table), a $50 piece of dry seabass the size of a dinner roll). Sent back the "grilled octopus", tough as leather. Told them it was inedible (I rarely if ever send food back). They did bring a new piece (even smaller than the first... which was small) with the excuse that the chef should have cut off the "tough" part on the first. 2nd was better (not great). They told me they'd comp it (I wasnt looking for freebee) but they still charged me for it anyway (I just paid, just wanted to get out of there). They were even cheap with the bread! The staff was very nice, but please train wait staff not to hover over someone while they're paying the bill...awkward. $372 bucks with tip (20%). We left feeling ripped off.
