After having a very positive experience fixing my drawer I decided I needed a special piece of furniture built to complete my new room. I had dropped by the office with only Carlos was there who took down my information and Seth did get back to me. Apparently Seth commuted over the 'hill' and would arrive early and leave early, but did answer all of my phone calls and we exchanged some photos. Unfortunately for me he decided to leave the company and I wound up working with Patrick Miller. I came in and sat down with Patrick and gave him the dimensions of the piece of custom furniture. You have to give a deposit and sign a written contract with the agreed upon dimensions and price and send it back before they will start on the project which is a good thing. Unfortunately for me Patrick could not envision the final use and sent me another proposal that would not have worked at three times the expense. I thought the hours burdened on my project were excessive and Patrick was late by a couple of weeks in delivery and did not even consider that in the final price. He indicated it took more hours than estimated to make. Apparently they like to cater to large projects by those whom cost is not a consideration. It arrived and was the right dimensions so it worked out for me, but the huge costs and delays would have me hesitate ever using them again. I think Seth might have worked out a better deal for me had he not left the company. read more

I can't say enough good things about MMFW. As others have said, their attention to quality, the professional demeanor (including during install) and work product were exceptional. They created two new custom built-in pieces for us. The space for one of the pieces had imperfect angles, and they took tremendous care to make sure the final built-in would look seamless and symmetrical. Had an appointment for an estimate at 3pm on a weekday, for which I rushed home from work to make. I texted to let them know my buzzer wasn't working and to please call my cell. They called back to say, "Sorry, did we have an appointment today? What was it for?" I've had this happen before with a previous contractor, and have learned to take it as a sign of larger issues. Maybe they can do good work, but I didn't bother rescheduling. read more

I wanted to write another review for my second job with MMFW, and also to address the recent comments by Foxhound A. The work that Michael, Anthony and staff have done for me in the past has been truly exceptional. In the most recent job, I had them remodel some elements of my kitchen and add a small breakfast bar, which involved adding new woodwork to an existing part of the kitchen cabinetry. I am so, so happy with what they did for me, not only is the carpentry top-notch but the work was completed in a way that is stylistically indistinguishable from the existing woodwork, right down to the finishes, which were carefully matched to the existing paint. If you walked into my home for the first time today, you would truly never tell the new from old, which was very important to me. I don't know how Michael's pricing compares with other contractors but you have to appreciate the quality of his work. My jobs have been rather simple but looking at his portfolio, he clearly works at the very highest levels. That's going to cost, especially in an area like Silicon Valley. However, I will add that I did get a second quote from another carpenter for my most recent project and, whilst the estimate was less, the pricing delta was pretty small and the decision was an easy one. As for the levels of administrative service, well... they are carpenters, not office folks, so yes, you will have to leave messages and use the email link on their web-page, as they'll be out on jobs during the day. On the subject of service, both Michael and Anthony visited me at home twice to properly scope my kitchen, and then accommodated a request to do the work whilst I was away with only 7 days notice. Trust me, the quality of service is just fine. I hope that doesn't sound too effusive, I'm not being paid to say this, I'm just a client. I'm just so delighted that I finally found a local contractor who is great to work with and who really 'gets it'. Michael Meyer is the best, and I mean BEST. For big and small projects. Big project: wall system Patrick Miller designed a beautiful wall-to-wall system for our open great room, and I could not be happier with the outcome. High-quality craftsmanship and courtesy marked the project from start to finish. Patrick gave me many cost options to pick from, did not push the most expensive one. Small project: side gate A new side gate that we bought from someone else came apart and Patrick arranged to pick it up and fix it, so it can hang correctly again. Highly recommend! read more

I guess the definition of a satisfied customer is one who comes back for more. Count me as satisfied, and some. I have used MMFW for several cabinetry jobs over the last 20 years or so, everything from designing and building a murphy wall bed, to helping me turn a slightly kitschy built-in corner cabinet in my 1920s era home into an elegant and useful, lit cabinet with glass doors, to doing full kitchen cabinetry. They've always taken my vague ideas and turned them into something that completely met and actually exceeded my goals. Last year I decided it was time for my house to get a little updating, having lived here for decades, and I decided to hire MMFW as the general contractor for a whole mix of jobs, including a walk in closet, an out-door screened "catio," some new kitchen cabinetry and new appliances, and a host of niggly annoying projects. I wanted to stay in the house the whole time. They were fantastic. Patrick Miller helped design my closet and cabinets. Everyone who worked on my job kept the site clean, was prompt and polite, and went out of their way to make me happy, often pointing out little things that they could fix or improve for me, since they were here anyhow. I was super happy with their work and how everything turned out. And then, this is where the rave review comes in - I got a new roof put on the house (I hired the roofer myself) and in the process of re-roofing a leak occurred, soaking my newly refinished kitchen floor and requiring an entire side of my kitchen to be rebuilt from the studs up. Even though MMFW had finished their work at my place they sprang into action for me, got subcontractors organized to do repairs ASAP, Patrick designed a replacement cabinet, and they managed the unscheduled repair job to completion. MMFW are really a pleasure to work with. Documents are clear, communication is good, they are very responsive, and they are, quite simply, nice people. Who do really fine work. I've had years to evaluate it, and I've never had an unpleasant surprise with how something has performed. I know if I found something didn't work as expected I could call them and they would make it right. That kind of trust is really important in a relationship with a general contractor. We don't write reviews very often but feel we must for Michael Meyer Fine Woodworking in Mountain View. We did a remodel in 2016/17 and opted to take on the kitchen cabinets contract and selection ourselves, as we were looking for a more high end and custom solution than our contractor could offer. We decided to go with MMFW, working with Patrick Miller, our designer and contact, and we were not disappointed with our choice at all. Patrick patiently designed our kitchen and even incorporated a corner pantry that had to be built on site - something that was not easy to do according to most other sources! He also offered choices of woods, organization gizmos and we went together to the actual wood source to pick out our wood panels from which the beautiful cabinets were made. Due to other remodel delays, we really wanted the kitchen cabinets to be expedited and timing and cost worked out very satisfactorily for us. The crew that worked in our house were polite and did a great job of the install, and clean up. They promptly followed up on some minor tweaks after install was completed. We recommend getting beautiful custom kitchen cabinets from them! Makes it a pleasure to cook and entertain. read more

Patrick worked with us to design and install an absolutely gorgeous built in entertainment/shelving unit in our family room. It completely transformed the space. Every craftsman who worked on this project was completely professional and detail oriented. Perhaps must impressive, 18 mos after the project was finalized, one of our children popped a door off one of the cabinets. Michael and his team did a great job on my bath renovation. I hd a tired old 80's bath. We had picked a design of a bath we loved from the Houzz web site. Patrick, who handles cabinetry, was able to build us basically an exact replica. Michael's crew has very good workmanship, very neat, professional and prompt. Everything is level and square. He uses subcontractors for the plumbing, tile, electrical and drywall, but they are as efficient and professional as the rest at MMFWW. I am very pleased with their work and can recommend them without reservations. read more

We just completed a major remodel (12/2014) with Michael Meyer and his team and wholeheartedly recommend Michael Meyer Find Woodworking for your remodel or new build! Our project was our home and garage, built in 1912, that had no updating since we think 1940s, except appliances. Michael's team took us from start to finish (including design and Palo Alto city permitting). We updated all systems, added a full bathroom, completely remodeled the kitchen, did necessary structural work, and two additions. The following is just a partial list of what I think sets Michael's team apart and made our experience SO wonderful: 1. The main construction team is a strong working group of professionals with each member having clear roles and drawing easily on expertise of others on the team. They are close nit, work well together, have tons of expertise in rough and finished carpentry and period detail (and modern style if you prefer), update with thought/charm/practicality, and enjoy helping homeowners realize a finished product that is solidly built to last. We worked mainly with Chris Brabant as our construction supervisor, Todd R and Eddie G, utilized expertise of Dan Torjusen for design and Patrick Miller for cabinetry, but also interacted with almost everyone at MMFWW and everyone (yes, everyone) was a pleasure to work with. 2. Subs were also superb! I was guided by Chris through each step of the process of the sub contractor work and was given the right amount of guidance and autonomy/say in working with each of the sub teams. The work was not done until we were satisfied, and the subs also went out of their way to assure our satisfaction. 3. Communication needs were nearly constant during active construction, as you might imagine, and I was always able to reach Chris and Michael in under a day (most often immediately or in less than 1 hour) with any question, concern, pondering along the way. Communication was always gracious, patient, responsive, and most of all wise - such a gift, given we of course had hopes/dreams for what it would look like, information at our researching fingertips but NO true knowledge or expertise into the world of construction. 4. Similarly, billing was by detailed invoicing that included photocopies of every receipt, log of travel and hours for each employee on our project in that time period. Budget meetings occurred regularly to discuss need for adjustments in scope, alternative bids, phasing of project. There were no surprises. 5. The construction schedule was anticipated and timing of subs well above industry standard. 6. The crew kept our site clean, secure, and very well organized, with daily clean up as well as a more thorough weekly site detailing. All in all, we had a TRULY WONDERFUL experience, and now enjoy our beautiful "new" old home! read more

I sent a 2 page specification to get a quote on two custom vanity cabinets. Each was to be veneer plywood, flat panel, nothing exceptional in scope, finish, size or design. After a few days, I got a quote for $7000. I responded, asking if this was for both cabinets or just the one. Days pass, and I got a response, just the one. This quote is more than 50% above the quote from other shops - and the other shops followed the instructions and quoted for BOTH cabinets, as requested, not just the one. There's no way I'd go with this guy. He outrageously expensive and unorganized. I'll pass. read more

We recently bought a house that included a serviceable but ugly kitchen. The cabinets were sturdy and the lay-out was workable. The cabinets had been refaced with plastic doors which were an anathema to me. I called Michael Meyers Fine Woodworking for a discussion as to refacing the cabinets. The service I got was exceptional and the quality of work was superb. All facets of the project were explained to me and I received detailed contracts for the work. When I changed the order a couple of times they were very gracious and were quick to provide a written change order. I appreciate this attention to detail and to keeping everyone involved informed. The price seemed reasonable to me especially for the quality and attention I got in return. The installers were prompt and courteous. They cleaned up after themselves every day! The quote included a custom wooden cutting board that Patrick had built, as well as a lazy susan in the corner cupboard. So cool! The installers fretted about how ugly the shelving was in the cabinets, so we made a decision to have them replaced as well. That was a good decision because they do look a lot better. In addition to the kitchen cabinet refacing, Michael and his team created a simple, elegant cherry mantelpiece for my boring, mid-century fireplace. It changed the look of the fireplace and I love it. I highy recommend these guys. read more

Our project was both remodel of some existing space and a little under 500 sq feet of new space: a glorious kitchen and unusual, contemporarly, but universal design bath. First let me second all the favorable things that have been written in other reviewers. Our two previous remodel experiences were a 1500 sq. ft addition and a 1200 sq ft two story addition on this house with two other contractors, who were quite ok but both long retired. For this third (and last!) addition to our long time home, Michael and his staff worked closely with me to flesh out what was really not more than a concept floor plan, solved numerous tie-in issues with elegance and simplicity, and helped tremendously with making some necessary tradeoffs. I was undoubtedly not the easiest client to work with because i had wanted the kitchen addition for a couple of decades and had a lot of specific ideas, some of which needed reality checks. One of the real break throughs was Michael's suggesting that we chalk the plans out at 100% scale on the driveway. Then we could actually stand in the imaginary spaces and feel really confident about making optimum tradeoffs to fit what we wanted in the available area (between two existing wings of the house). Sometimes a good architect can do that for you, but it's hard to predict, and I really didn't want to take this on faith. I knew I'd only get to do this once. The end result has transformed the house, the entry went from dark to gorgeous, adjoinging spaces roof lines tie in better than the original, and the new spaces are a joy. MMFW staff are skillful and uniformly pleasant to have around. A couple of months from the end of the job I was diagnosed with cancer, had surgery, chemo and radiation. Michael's crew shifted into working without my previous level of availability (to put it mildly). They lived up to the confidence I had by then developed, and pulled the finished result together in the design spirit and standard of quality we had come to trust. Eveyone in my family loves the result. The appearance and the functionality of the house are radically improved by this project. Michael has done several projects for us, including furniture and cabinet making, but most recently we hired MMFW to renovate our 1913 Craftsman bungalow. This was a major undertaking, involving the addition of a basement and the creation of a second floor from a roomy attic. Michael, Patrick, and the rest of the team did a superb job. The craftsmanship is apparent in the attention to all the details, including re-creating a kitchen and two bathrooms in the style of the era, down to the tightly-spaced hexagonal tiles on the floor.
