No issues. * What about them doing custom work? We actually had a bunch done. Removed a bar in the kitchen, replaced a desk with cabinets, replaced a full length cabinet with uppers, and had a whole wall unit added in the bedroom. All turned out great. * Do I really want to act as the project manager, arranging all this work? Actually wasn't that hard, and KRD was really helpful. I previously used Paul/Kitchen Reface Depot to reface my kitchen cabinets. His work ethic and his team were so excellent that I decided to use them again for a smaller project. I wanted to add shelving and doors to the back side of my kitchen counter to utilize the wasted space where the overhang is. I am very, very happy with my kitchen. I like to cook and spend a good amount of time in the kitchen so it was important to me to have a team that cared about the results as much as I did. Paul and his team at Kitchen Reface were stellar. In the last 6 months I've had many contractors come through. When it rains, it pours. The kitchen remodel was planned, but other home issues popped up. I had to find two plumbers (water heater broke, kitchen sink set up installation), multiple HVACs (it's a long story), ceiling/roofers and general contractors - and I can say with confidence Paul and KRD is the outlier. Ashley was great too. She really is a good communicator and made sure to answer all questions and follow through. Paul actually listens to the customer and cares about their preferences, and as much as he listened, I appreciated his feedback. He was very honest about what works, what may not work, and explained the execution. The quality of materials were also good: doors, wood, hinges, pull outs. Paul never rushed or pressured me to make any upgrades or unnecessary work. Paul made some design suggestions which turned out so well. Since I don't use a dishwasher and it was located in a prime location he made me a custom cabinet where I now store a microwave and toaster oven, both tucked away behind a cabinet door! No visual clutter :). Paul also was willing to do pocket doors when I asked. It was not an immediate yes. But he understood the aesthetics I was aiming. Paul looked into it and determined it was feasible despite saying KRD does not typically do this type of install. We dialogued about a number of kitchen modifications to ensure aesthetics and function. It wasn't just one over the other, it was both. Jose and Andrew were the installers. It took three days to install. Jose really CARES about his craft and seemed like a perfectionist (in the best way possible). I really liked his work and can-do attitude. Nothing seemed too minor or difficult for Jose. He did this all with a smile. Jose even called the general contractor a handful of times to coordinate things. Andrew's attention to detail caught me off-guard but it was evident he really knew his stuff and I appreciated it. Andrew was careful with his installation. When I asked if it was possible to install a pot rack (purchased elsewhere) inside a cabinet he made sure to secure it properly. Andrew was a stickler for doing things the right way....which is what YOU WANT for a major project. When I walk through the front door of my home the first thing I see is the kitchen. Sue and I want to express our utmost gratitude for your exceptional design, craftsmanship, installation and overall service regarding our kitchen cabinets. The end product is simply breathtaking! No one in our family wants to leave the kitchen! Thank you!!! 5/4/16 Update: We're overdue to expand our previous quick post and add some pictures. First of all, to clarify, we had hoped to remodel our kitchen for over 30 years(!), but our budget never could keep pace with inflation. Now we have a gorgeous new kitchen, thanks to Paul and his crew. As other reviewers have mentioned, Paul is really easy to work with, listened carefully to our ideas and questions, and was exceedingly patient with us as we agonized over every decision for months. We really appreciated his fabulous design ideas throughout the process and that there was never any pressure to do things in any particular way (although we quickly learned to trust his judgment!). Although we had planned to reface, in the end, we replaced all our cabinets, since Paul pointed out that there would be little cost difference, once we expanded the oven cabinet and refrigerator cabinet to fit today's larger appliances and expanded the upper cabinets to reach the ceiling and added 20 or so inches of cabinetry/counters to one side of the kitchen. We have no doubt that the refaced cabinets would have looked just as gorgeous on the outside, but the increased functionality and newness were totally worth the extra time and hassle involved in a full remodel. In the end, at Paul's suggestion, we switched from a wall oven/cooktop combination to a range, allowing us to have counter space on each side of the cooktop for the first time and opening up the feel of the kitchen. I recently sat down to type up a list of all the things I love about our new kitchen and ended up with two single-spaced pages! A few highlights (not including the beauty, workmanship, and functionality of the cabinetry, which are well documented by all the other reviewers): 1) As mentioned, expanded cabinet and counter space, even though the kitchen feels bigger than before 2) Trash/recycling pullout by the sink (no more trash can in the middle of the kitchen or hauling dripping cans/bottles to the garage) 3) Drawers instead of lower cabinets! It is rare that I hire a contractor and the experience is PERFECT!!! Having poured too much money into structural upgrades in a 60 YO rental property, I just could not afford to remodel the kitchen, whose "footprint" could not be changed without going towards $100,000. I finally have my dream kitchen and I'm not exaggerating when I say it would not have happened without Paul, a true visionary and craftsman in the world of kitchen remodels. I could write a book about it but yelp keeps cutting me off because my review gets too long. It's been a year already so I will try to write a super condensed version of my long story, so I can actually post: Years ago I bought an old fixer upper, the old ranch home with lots of golden oak cabs everywhere. To prepare to remodel, I visited lots of showrooms and looked at beautiful new cabs on walls. But I would also ask to see the whole cab, uninstalled, out of the box, and was lead to warehouses, etc. I read signs like "formaldehyde free" (what about other ingredients? - more wood/less glue is always better). I saw that the side and back that we do not normally see are made of thin wafers of wood put together with lots of glue - grade C or D plywood. I was worried about gassing, strength of plywood, etc but couldn't afford higher quality cabs, so I decided I will keep my outdated, but sturdy, grade A plywood side and back golden cabs. As the years wore on I kept dreaming about an updated kitchen. Finally I decided on refacing. Choosing KRD was a no brainer due to all the reviews. Paul walked into my 1960's kitchen and began imagining changes from all different viewpoints, walking around hither and thither, more excited than even me. ...get rid of divider betw kitchen and eating area, shorten the peninsula to open up walk through area, add counter space by elevating 1960's style desk area, so on and so on. To make a long story short he found a way for me to afford to replace tons of oak cabs with fewer but brand new custom cabinets. Why didn't I think of this?! I only need cabs in the kitchen after all. Final result - same footprint but way more spacious looking and functional kitchen! Few fun facts about Paul and KRD: - They can be slow with asking for your money, but quick with questions or concerns/requests about cabinets. - For example, I had to ask for the first bill twice and the final bill came 3-4 days after work was finished. But when I asked for extra shelves (I wanted shallow shelves for plates, etc), Mynor showed up the very next day with shelves cut to custom specs... I was almost confused... already? - Paul used world famous, gold standard BLUM hinges and drawer slides and... didn't even mention it. I've been reading many online design forums and I knew about coveted BLUM hardware, manufactured in US, and sometimes in short supply. (think adjustable soft close that can close quickly but slow down the last two inches - love it!) I knew by gut Paul would use quality hinges/slides so I looked at engraving after install to see which good brand he used. I was a bit shocked when engraving said BLUM since he didn't even advertise this selling point. - He is the only person in home improvement business I've ever met that uses Benjamin Moore paint colors as "standard" choice. Mine is Chantilly Lace and it is the perfect white for my north western kitchen. And that "state of the art" paint system - not a joke. The most buttery smooth and durable paint job I have seen to date, 3 coats with fine sanding in between. Few do it like this nowadays, or say they do, but not really. - He is one of few remaining cabinet makers who follow the original cabinet making specs - grade A plywood backs with 3/4" grade A nailers - no one makes them like this anymore. I've looked quite a bit. And I've read through lots of woodworking forums that talk about how few cabinet makers are left doing it this way, some even wrote there is no one west of Mississippi following these specs. - He is a true cabinet maker at heart. Although he sets aside time to meet with clients, he is often in the shop cutting and sanding and prepping. He works and sweats with his employees and shows them how it's done, rather than just telling them what to do. Maybe this is why all his employees are so dedicated and take ownership of their work. His employees become craftsmen themselves. Mynor was the lead for our home and he was phenomenal - knew exactly what he was doing and meticulous with details. - His prices are low for what he provides. We're talking best value. Most contractors/owners need to charge enough to pay themselves for managing and running the business while paying others to do the actual work. But Paul does a lot of the actual work himself so he can keep his overhead lower. It took out of the box, creative thinking to make it happen for an OCD person with a limited budget like me. You will pay for a Toyota and drive home in a Lexus, and don't even realize it until later.
