I called Dr. Nick this morning when my daughter had a dental emergency. He called me back himself minutes later and had us come in right away. Dr. Nick was extremely thorough with my daughter's dental emergency. He called an oral surgeon twice for a second opinion while we were there. He took his time, explained everything so I could understand, and told me I could call his cell phone over the weekend if I needed to. I found my new dentist! read more

Okay I pretty much never write reviews, but this dentist totally deserves one - he completely changed my life. I had really bad cavities on my front teeth that made me insecure to smile or even talk to people, and he fixed them within 2 appointments for a super affordable price. I don't have tons of money and I was previously quoted a price/treatment plan by a different dentist that I could literally never afford in this lifetime, so I'm *so* happy I was able to find Dr. Nick's office. Everyone there is so nice and nonjudgmental (which is something I was worried about). I can finally smile with nice teeth for the first time in years thanks to them. I have been so terrified of the dentist, it's taken me 7 years just to go & get my teeth cleaned. I went in to Dr. Nick just to do that and get X-rays since it's been so long. I've had a few not so pleasant dentist experiences, and one that made me wait 7 years to go again because it was so horrible. Anyway- Dr. Nick and his staff are AMAZING. They are the sweetest, and you can tell they actually care about taking time with you and educating you on dental care. I learned things from the doctor I should've know before but had no idea. He is super knowledgeable. I had to go today to get a filling, and it took only about 30 minutes once we got started. I was really scared and he made sure I couldn't feel anything during the process. I felt like it only took like five minutes because of how easy it was. If you live close, go here! If you are terrified of the dentist and don't live close, still go here. It's worth a drive. My husband cracked a tooth the night before New Year's Eve. We called many dentists and couldn't find anyone to help. Then, we called Dr. Nick. They returned our message, gave advice and provided an emergency number in the event he couldn't wait until the Monday after New Year's. On Monday, my husband saw Dr. Nick and he came home raving..He shared that it was the best dentist experience he's ever had. He felt cared for and treated. I hate to be a hater but after seeing a rash of great reviews, I had to say my piece. I'm no cake eater but I was a little put off by the trip to Dr. Nick's office. You walk up some dumpy staircase and down a dark depressing hallway. Perhaps they were renovating or something but the office was a mess. He and the lady at the desk were friendly, in a cousin Eddie sort of way. I was called back, sat down in an old dental chair and took a look around the room and saw duck tape on some pipes etc. People have called me BIG MOUTH my whole life. But Dr. Nick's hands are huge! Had marks on my face after he finished with me. He also drilled a huge hole in my tooth and then disappeared for like 10 minutes. Finally, I know we all want to be "cool" but Dr. Nick cussing while he was making my mouth bleed did not help things. Before their move to 2150 W Lawrence this was the most amazing dentist I have ever met in my 66 years, and that's a lot to say. I trusted Dr Nick beyond words. He knows his sh*t, was a chemistry major and had a heart. He knew that I was on a fixed income, put me on his credit plan and I made sure to pay the bill off from my savings, in cash so he wouldn't have to deal with the credit card processing charges. Since the move, into an office over 3 times the size of the original, he brought his daughter Casey into the practice. Now, it's a 'dental spa' and prices have more than doubled. Now, I have to rely on my Medicare clinic and I'm on a waiting list with 100 people ahead of me. One of his Doctor staff did my cleaning and found a small cavity. So much for getting decent dental care. I paid twice as much this time as last year and there was no heads up, it was a financial land mine. Please. Find someone else at this point. The charges are insane and daughter designed the space no doubt adding to the expense, not just the rent. Note to Casey: the lighting is tacky and doesn't fit with the straight lines of the basic wall decor. You should've gone with something more Van Der Rohe read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who have been long time patients of Dr. Nick. My dad is now deceased, but the kindness and care the doctor has shown my folks over the years is amazing. When my dad was too frail to drive, Dr.Nick offered to come to the house and pick him up. This man is awesome!!! I had recently moved and needed to find a dentist. I went to him because I previously had a root canal, by an expensive endodontist that kept causing me pain for a year after. I had been back to endodontist who did not help me. After going to him, and having my root canal done again, my problem is finally fixed. Although the office may not look all that up to date, he knows what he is doing. It was also really nice that he is willing to work with you on payment! read more

He is perhaps the best dentist I've ever been to. It's a very no - frills office, but that just means you're not paying extra for a waiting room waterfall and imported rubber tree plant. You're only paying for quality dental care. Speaking of paying, his rates are very reasonable. Dr Nick himself is very personable, and you can tell he loves people and his job. I went to see him for a swollen gumline, and he popped my infected wisdom tooth out just like that! No pain, no fuss. It's probably the best experience I could have hoped for. I was the kind of person that cringed when I heard the word: DENTIST. That was until I visited Dr. Mike Nick for a cleaning and exam. Dr. Nick told me what I already knew: that I should come more often. He also walked me through the different ways to brush and floss and with each piece of exam equipment he shared with me the purpose for them. He told me I have more than 3 cavities to be filled... thank you very much, CANDY and from there I scheduled my appointment to come back in. I begrudgingly made my appointment and came back in on November 21st. After a crappy week already, I wasn't excited about the procedure. Dr. Nick got right to the point - I didn't even notice the Novocain shot he did it so quickly, it was painless. The 3 cavities took 40 minutes, tops - didn't feel a thing. He was so thorough and has such a positive energy. He makes getting cavities filled --- actually FUN - I know it's hard to even type that but it's true. Thank you, Dr. Nick!! read more

I'll admit it. I'm actually afraid of Dentists on the whole. They fall into the camp of necessary evil which I unfortunately avoid more than I should. *Shiver* That said, Dr. Nick is about as real as it gets. I love this guy! And I've been his patient for almost 8 years now! He honestly cares, tells it like it is, and his general policy is to avoid messing with your teeth as much as possible (meaning, he'll always suggest the least invasive route to fix your dental problems, instead of inflating your diagnosis like many dentists out there). On top of having a great business practice, he's also just really nice! He never makes you feel embarrassed, is completely understanding and sensitive to people with Dental phobia, and is very informative - both about your current situation and what steps you can do to avoid problems in the future. It also should be mentioned that he has a really steady hand, too. One shot of the novacaine does exactly what it's supposed to and I've never had to ask for a second shot (which I normally have had to do with other, less on the mark dentists). AAAANND he's great about working around people's money issues (I started going to him before I was insured, so I am speaking from experience). It's true. The office doesn't have a lot of frills. But if warm, friendly service from someone who is not just out for your money is what you're looking for, then you have found your man. I woudn't go to anyone else. read more

I found Dr. Nick on Yelp! & booked an appointment within a week of placing my call. The office is located above the Walgreen's right outside of Lincoln Square. During my cleaning and exam he really explained to me what was going on He was a little rough with my teeth for this reason, but I never felt uncomfortable... and I know he was doing what he had to because my teeth looked brighter than they have in a while! I have a few shadows on teeth that have been filled before and instead of pushing me to replace them he told me not to worry until I come back again in six months. I feel he is a pretty honest guy & for an un-insured student his prices were very reasonable. I'm looking forward to returning. read more

So I was searching for a good dentist forever and my boss recommended this guy to me. It is totally old school, but a very friendly assistant greets you at the door and you get to sit and read the 100s of magazines and relax on the leather sofas.. it gets hot in there so dress right.. LOL This guy has no plasmas up on the walls or fancy stuff, but everything is clean and affordable for every budget. He takes most insurances and will work with you on major prices. I was there for a root canal and cavity fill (2 seperate days).. He will give you great advice and be HONEST with you about your situtation. BRAVO! read more

Dr. Nick has been my dentist since I was about 10 years old (I'm 29), and when I recently moved to Louisville, Kentucky and I couldn't find a dentist that was taking new patients, I drove 350 miles to see him. He's absolutely the best, and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. He's reasonably priced, works with my insurance company and he always honest with me about the severity of any issues he finds. I walked into Dr. Nick's office after not having been to the dentist in too many years. Terrifying. I was almost in tears. My husband literally dragged me in by the arm. I was immediately comfortable when I walked into his office. His staff is SO great and sweet.. I sat in the dentist chair, squirmed around a lot, prepared myself for the 18 cavities & 7 root canals that I thought I'd need (I am a Sour Patch Kid junkie) , Dr. Nick came in, he assured me that everything was going to be ok, took a look at my teeth, told me that I was pretty much freaking out about nothing, cleaned the shit out of my mouth, handed me a pink toothbrush and some floss and I walked away a brand new woman. He was so comforting, he rubbed my head while I was freaking out in the chair for god's sake. He took such good care of me. He worked on my teeth while making me laugh and, seriously, gave me a full blown lesson on gingivitis that I will never forget. Dr. Nick is honest and well trained. A previous dentist I went told to get some work done on a few teeth and Dr. Nick found it was really unnecessary! Now I feel like the previous dentist is just about $ and not the patient, Dr. Nick actually cares about the individual. Wow! I learned SO MUCH from Dr. Nick about caring for my teeth! He certainly knows his stuff and loves sharing his knowledge with patients in a way that I've never experienced from other dentists! Don't be fooled by the building, which could use some updating (as I was walking down the hall to his office, I was worried what I had gotten myself into). My family and extended family have been goiong to Dr. Nick for years. It is impossible to think of all the wonderful experiences with him and his expert work. I am now retired, but while I was working Dr. Nick would make appointments at 6 o'clock in the morning and I was ready to be to work at 8:30 a.m.. My brother had a terribly painful toothache and the doctor came into his office on Christmas morning. What other dentist would do that? My grandaugter, age 8, has been going to him since she was little. She loves to go the the dentist's office, is not afraid, in spite of having had dental work previously done. My daughter-in-law's mother had been to another dentist who had not treated her problem correctly and she had severe pain early a Sunday morinig. My daughter-in-law called Dr. Nick, who met her at his office in an hour and solved the problem. Now she is a happy patient of Dr. Nick. Dr. Nick and his assistant are caring and friendly people. He is a great dentist and devoted parent to his several children. While his office is not decorated with glitx and modern furniture, it is clean and comfortable. I do not look care if the office was not designed by an interrior decorator. What I do care about is the quality, skills and concern of the doctor and his willingness to demonstrate concern for the discomfort of his patients. I am always very nervous about going to the dentist. After having some tooth pain for a few days, I called to make an appt. Carol, the receptionist, was extremely helpful and friendly. She assisted with getting me a antibotic prescription until the day the of appt. Everyone has had the phone call when you call for help and the person on the other end seems annoyed and cannot be bothered. That is not the case here. Dr Nick has also made me feel at ease. For years I was a serious dentalphobe. My wife found Dr Nick and made an appointment for her and the kids. She was happy with his work and suggested him to me. I went in with great trepidation, half expecting to be fitted with a full set of dentures and all the agony I could handle. As I sat nearly frozen in the chair, a big guy in blue jeans walked in. He said "how ya doin' Bob" and apologized for being late. As he started to talk his cell phone rang, and he looked startled and let out an f-bomb. At first I thought that he was one of the building's maintenance men who had wandered into the exam room for something. When I realized that he was in fact, the dentist, I thought, hey I like this guy, this is going to be ok. Dr. Nick is a highly skilled and very down to earth dentist who cured my phobia, and saved my teeth. I got off with two root canals and a filling. He is also reasonably priced, and will work on a payment plan. His staff is also friendly and knowledgeable. I would reccomend him to anyone who needs dental work! read more

My nine year old had a dental emergency. We are "between dentists" since our regular dentist is closing her practice. Dr. Nick took my son that day, squeezed in a follow up appointment two days later, and had his office manager call us the day after the procedure to see how my son was feeling.
