"It's a miracle," is what I told Dr. Tracy and his lovely wife as I left the office only a few days ago, on my second to last visit following surgery. I was previously seeing at 20/400 and now I'm at 20/15. And, I'm expected to continue improving... During recovery about three weeks ago, I kept feeling the anxiety of needing to take my contacts out before bed, then felt immediately pleased, almost criminally, at the idea that I would never have to wear contacts again. Dr. Tracy was there through the entire process, from start to finish. His wife Natalie, also helped me through the experience. I elected for PRK after finding the practice via an Amazon local coupon which advertised the entire procedure at $2500. No catch, just 2500 flat for the entire thing. I have been in some pretty hairy situations, being a four time veteran and honestly have to say, the pain which followed surgery, was unlike anything else I've ever experienced. However, that same day Natalie called me on the phone and after hearing my anguish, prescribed me a stronger pain killer which I picked up the next day. After that, aside from some mild discomfort, I was fine. I've been fine since. As time progresses my eyes dry up less and my sensitivity to light has reduced. Even with the pain I felt after surgery, I would still do it again, and I recommend anyone else with vision that was as bad as mine do it. After finding them on groupon for lasik/PRK, I booked a free consultation. Their office is in a beautiful location, and the surgery center was conveniently located closer to DT San DIego. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie (also the receptionist) were very helpful and friendly from the get-go, I could tell they had a ton of experience with this procedure. I called numerous times to ask and re-ask questions about the procedure and payment options and recovery, and every time they were beyond patient and friendly. Every step of the way was explained to me in detail and given to me in writing, and I received reminder phone calls as well as emails-which I appreciated. One thing I wish was different, I did not receive my after procedure instructions until after the procedure. I do wish I received those ahead of time so that I could familiarize myself with what to do before I couldnt see/was all loopy from the drugs. It may have also helped to reduce my anxiety on surgery day because I wouldnt have to worry about making sure I wasnt missing any information and was going to be doing everything correctly-but not a big deal at all. I never felt like anything was being pushed on me. They were very flexible and willing to work with my schedule and were upfront about everything. They told me to take my time in deciding if I wanted to do the surgery, and there was never any cancellation or late fees, or any other hidden fees. Just the surgery fee and the prescriptions (which in total cost me $30.00. While the procedure was not covered by any insurance all the prescriptions were, and I dont even have great health insurance). Lasik/PRK is not a cheap procedure, but I did not feel over-charged and felt very comfortable with these doctors the whole time. This is not the most expensive place in town, but it is also not the cheapest. Up to you to decide what kind of experience you want to have. Everything was fast, I had two pre-appointment testings (which are about an hour long, but that is because of all the tests they do to decide which laser eye surgery procedure is best for you and if you are even a candidate), the surgery, and a few follow up appointments, and I never had to wait to see the doctor at any of these. I even showed up half an hour late to one of my appointments and it was no big deal! Dr. Tracy recommended PRK for me. The procedure itself really is painless, but it was terrifying, not going to lie! They did a great job making me feel as comfortable as possible, and gave me a Valium before hand as well as a teddy bear to hug during the procedure (which, having something for your hands to do really helps...). Their procedures are on Thursdays. After the procedure, I ended up having some intense pain over the weekend, which was taken care of by the pain pills I was prescribed, but it was not fun. Because of my vision, I did not feel like I could go back to work/do anything that required good vision until a week after my procedure, but this is different for everyone who gets PRK-they told me most people are ready to go back to work the Monday following the procedure. My eyes are dry after the procedure, but nothing too uncomfortable following that initial weekend. All-in-all it was easy and I would recommend it to anyone on the fence, especially with Dr. Tracy and Natalie. read more

I was referred to this new Opthalmologist via Costco and he saw me immediately. He and his wife (at front desk) were professional, courteous and thorough. I couldn't have been more pleased by his exam and treatment. Being a nurse, I take pride in professionals bedside manner and knowledge and Dr. Tracy had both. I highly recommend him. Initially I was very reluctant to get PRK over Lasik because of the horror stories I heard about the pain but after couple consultation with Dr Tracy and a lot of research and reading on many web pages/studies etc, I decided to get PRK. I was not nervous before, during or after the surgery. Dr. Tracy made sure I was comfortable and ready. The actual procedure only took 20minutes which was a lot shorter than the prep time. I knew I was going to be sleeping a lot the first day after the surgery but basically had no pain. I had a post op visit with Dr Tracy the next day and my vision was already about a 20/25! I also anticipated a lot of pain (as he warns in the beginning about possible discomfort for PRK) but I felt NONE (I did not even take any pain medication) for the duration of my healing process. Everyone reacts very differently to PRK procedure but I guess I was very lucky to have a fast and easy recovery. I was not able to drive for a couple weeks during the evening especially from the haloing affect but that goes away with time. After a month, I am 20/20 and can't be happier! I also have to give huge credit to his wife, Natalie, who is also the receptionist, that gave me alot of good advice about PRK and LASIK. I am extremely satisfied with my PRK procedure this past April. I went to several other laser eye centers and felt uncomfortable with having any procedure done because I felt that I was just another number. Dr. Tracy dispelled all of my apprehensions and steered me towards the right procedure for me. He even handled the volley of questions by my wife who is an engineer. I had PRK with Dr. Tracy back in Feburary and now I am 20/15! I had an emergency one month after the surgery that one eye became blurry suddenly. I called their office and was arranged to see Dr. Tracy on the same day. Dr. Tracy identified eye pressure problem immediately and replaced eye drops. Since then, my eyes got better and better. I don't have one negative thing to say about my experience with Dr. Tracy and his lovely wife, Natalie. I was researching many doctors in the San Diego area to find someone professional, but still in my price range. I happened to come across a groupon for Dr. Tracy and although I had major reservations about using a coupon on my eyes, I decided to go for the consultation anyway. The first issue I addressed at the consultation was, "What's the catch with the price? Should I be concerned?" Just as I suspected, he is fairly new to Carlsbad and is trying to build his clientele. I was blown away by how professional he is. He answered every one of my questions thoroughly and made me feel very comfortable. The most important thing of all is that he takes every precaution imaginable to make sure there are no complications or side effects. He talked me out of LASIK and instead convinced me to do PRK for the lower risk factor. When he initially saw my prescription (-1.25 in both eyes), he wasn't even sure if it would be ethical to operate on me (further tests showed that I was actually blind as a bat and could benefit greatly from the procedure). It's been a little over 4 months since the procedure and I am one happy customer! I do have very dry eyes, but that was expected. Nothing a few drops of artificial tears can't fix. I'm technically still healing, however my vision has been perfect since about three weeks after the procedure. I was able to return to work four days after surgery, but it was very difficult for me to see. I'm an accountant and sit and look at spreadsheets on a computer all day. Just keep that in mind if you do decide to go with PRK instead of LASIK. I was willing to deal with the longer healing time and never have to worry about my eyes again. I would be confident having Dr. Tracy do either procedure on my eyes. I've raved about him so much to my friends that they think I'm secretly working for him! read more

Dr. Tracy is magnificent! I had a chalazion (what a pretty word for an ugly stye) that needed to be surgically removed. Ugh. I first went to my GP who's wonderful and gave me a script for a double anti biotic eye drop. What my regular doc didn't know us that she was dealing with a chalazion that was huge, wouldn't budge and needed the big guns to come out. I visited an eye surgeon (who shall remain nameless) who hurried me up, didn't listen, didn't do anything. His staff was awful, rolled their eyes, borderline rude, and didn't want to schedule me in ( for the actual removal) for another month!!! A month with this giant stye under my eye? Ummm no. In my despair, I called Dr. Tracy's office and Natalie his front desk gal actually listened and was very helpful and got me in within 48 hours. I came in, Natalie was wonderful and sweet and was impressed with the size of my chalazion. Dr. Tracy has nice and his friendly demeanor put me immediately at ease. He got down to business, was very thorough and got rid of my chalazion within 10 minutes. Trust me, this was not fun, but his demeanor and professionalism made the experience much more tolerable. He wrote me a script for steroid eye drops and I left the office a little bit swollen but chalazion free. Dr. Tracey and Natalie make a really great duo. They both make me feel really comfortable with everything and you can tell they care about the patient. They lay out all your options and even told me that keeping glasses would be safest option, so you know that there is no pressure obtain the surgery. But I still opted for PRK and I have to say, I'm very happy with my decision. They made it very personable the whole way and personally make sure you're taken care of. From doing the measurements himself to Natalie making calls to go over procedures and reminders for the meds. I'm writing this review 2 weeks after my PRK surgery and I couldn't be happier. I thoroughly did my research before choosing a doctor and I am so glad I went with Dr. Tracy and Natalie. They are both very kind, knowledgeable and generous with their time. Dr. Tracy's "bedside manner" is outstanding - you will not leave his office with any lingering questions. The procedure itself is uncomfortable, but it's quick -- you can tolerate anything for 1 minute per eye! They prepared me over and over again for what to expect the days following the procedure and they were spot on with everything. I did get anxious for that first week with the initial blurriness and my go to mantra was, "Dr. Tracy and Natalie said this would happen." A week later I was seeing 20/20, minus some sharpness of images. Now that I am 2 weeks out, I really feel like my vision is pretty much what it was with the contacts, but I can tell there'll be a little more sharpening in the future. I also am one of those difficult customers so I called Natalie a few times with many questions. He found glaucoma in my eyes and recommended that I go to another specialist for the glaucoma and UCSD for the surgery as it would be a very complicated procedure and he was looking out for my best interest. I would like to begin by acknowledging the warm welcome that I felt I received every time I set foot in the office of Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie. Dr. Tracy was knowledgeable about laser eye procedure, honest in his assessments, thorough in his explanations and responses to questions, and normalizing in response to any anxiety I may have had prior to the procedure. Dr. Tracy partnered with me in the process of making a decision as to which laser eye procedure I was willing to do. He helped me weigh the pros and cons of each procedure making sure I wanted to go through with it, and chose the procedure that was right for me. The actual surgery itself, was painless, as he promised. The recovery process was a little slow, as Dr. Tracy had informed me. In less than a month post surgery, all discomfort was gone, and my vision was better than 20/20. Dr. Tracy has informed me that progress can continue up to 6 months. i am already happy where i am at. I feel so much more confident driving long distances, exercising daily, doing my job, and just going about my every day life. i am still in disbelief as to how well i can see! I was very impressed by Dr. Tracy and his business at Carlsbad Eye Care. Not only is Dr. Tracy one of the kindest doctors I have had the pleasure of doing service with, but everything about the experience of his service was excellent. Dr. Tracy and office manager, his wife, Natalie are efficient, knowledgeable, and personable. They care more about helping you rather than creating sales gimmicks to reel in the money. The initial appointment was with the doctor himself, all the way through the entire testing routine, and there is no pressure to schedule the surgery immediately. All appointments are right on time and calls answered or returned quickly, which seems to be very rare these days. Also, they guarantee enhancement should your vision deteriorate. If anybody tells me they are thinking of getting PRK or LASIK, I will refer them without hesitation to Dr. Tracy. MY EXPERIENCE WITH PRK PROCEDURE Dr. Tracy recommends PRK to eliminate the risk of the eye flap from LASIK becoming dislodged or healing incorrectly from scar tissue. Considering the extra couple days of pain and blurriness is nothing in a lifetime, I was happy to do PRK instead. I was probably considered legally blind at that point and believed this procedure was pretty much medically necessary unless I wanted to be blind by age 40. After an initial consultation and testing, I scheduled my surgery 2 weeks later on a Thursday morning, which is when Dr. Tracy does the surgeries at the Eye Bank in San Diego. If you wear contacts, you will need to wear glasses for at least 2 weeks before the surgery, using eye drops relentlessly to keep your eyes hydrated. Natalie will call in prescriptions for you for a bunch of eye drop prescriptions, which at Costco are about $110 without insurance. MORNING OF SURGERY Morning of surgery, you will meet Dr. Tracy at the Eye Bank. The procedure was a lot less scary than I thought. Your eyes are numbed with drops and sterilized with a swab, and the eye clamps they use to pry your eyes open are completely comfortable (you have no urge to blink). The procedure takes about 20 minutes, and you pretty much are just staring at a blinking light and smell something burning. I was totally fine after the procedure and immediately could see better! Dr. Tracy also gives you some numbing eye drops, a clear plastic eye mask, and sunglasses to take home. Before reading this next part, know that my pain experience is more rare than typical from what I have read and Dr. Tracy's experience with patients! Possibly part of the reason is because I did not hydrate my eyes enough with drops prior to the procedure when they were getting used to air touching them after 15 years of wearing contacts. WEEKS 1-4 I had no pain after the procedure, but my eyes started getting watery hours later because the numbing from the surgery started wearing off. The next 2 days I had excruciating pain that made me happy I have the special ability to sleep whenever I want, which is the only activity I did. Every time I woke up it was to put in more drops. I could barely open my eyes because it felt like there was something in them that I could not get out and my eyelids refused to lift. I had really high light sensitivity as well, so every time I got up I put on sunglasses as a day eye mask and stared at the ground. During the night, I would wake up several times from a spark of pain and had to keep those numbing drops on my night stand. Dr. Tracy gives you a home number to call in case of emergencies when him and Natalie are not in the office, and I had to call to request more numbing drops the second day because I was taking more than the recommended dosage. Day 3 was the worst. By day 4, the pain was gone and I was able to go back to my daily routine. The eye dryness was harsh, I still had a bit of light sensitivity, and I had huge halos at night. At the time of my 1-week post-op, I was able to drive during the day but not seeing 20/20 because of my still dry eyes. By week 2, I was starting to see better than I had with my contacts in and the light sensitivity had gone away. By week 3, the feeling of dry eyes finally went away and I was able to tolerate the wind. I think my vision reached 20/20 at this point, which was confirmed at my 1-month post-op visit. At 1 month, I am still seeing halos, which have reduced significantly, but this is the only side effect I am having, and I am confident this too will go away with time. I am stoked to have great vision at all times instead of going blind. Good luck with your procedure--it is worth it! read more

I had been wearing glasses/contacts for 12 years when I finally got PRK from Doc Tracy at carlsbad eye care. I went from only being able to see the big "E" on a vision test to having solid 20/15 vision seven days after my surgery. At my month check up I had 20/10. I would reccomend this office to anyone, both the doc and his wife are great people that have a passion for fixing vision and ensuring that your eyes are healing properly post surgery. Also another big plus, I couldn't get PRK through the Marine Corps and doc Tracy had a $500.00 discount for active duty mitary. Over all I spent the best $2700.00 of my life. I love his method of practice, which is to treat you with the least invasive treatments and then work from there if needed. I actually found out about Dr. Tracy and Carlsbad eye care through groupon. I'll admit, my first reaction to seeing it on groupon was skepticism. I asked my dad, as he had lasik many years ago in Seattle, and his reaction was extreme skepticism. However, I wanted lasik, and so I decided to start doing some research, on lasik, doctors in San Diego, and Dr. Tracy. My skepticism quickly disappeared after a good deal of research. Dr. Tracy has done been doing eye surgery for awhile (many thousands of surgeries), he completed his fellowship at the number one eye hospital in the country, and lastly when I gained the courage to call his office, I spoke with Natatlie (his wife by the way) who was incredibly helpful, informative, and friendly. Anyhow, all that is a nice backstory, but it is also information you can quickly find out, so what about the actual process of getting eye surgery? At the consultation, Dr. Tracy himself took me through all the tests, explaining what they were, the importance of them, and my results. Fortunately for me, the diagnostic tests checked out and I was a perfect candidate for eye surgery. Dr. Tracy then went through the details of different eye surgeries, LASIK, LASEK, PRK, etc. He explained the pros and cons of each and discussed what he thought would be best for me. I opted to go with Photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, which was recommended by him. I am only in my mid twenties and lead an active lifestyle, which we both agreed meant that avoiding the possible complications involved with traditional LASIK ) i.e. having a flap that could potentially be problematic) would be a good thing. So I went for PRK, well aware of the longer recovery time, and increased discomfort the first few days after surgery. I had my surgery on Jan. 3, 2013. Natalie, Dr. Tracy's wife, called to check on me 1 week before, to make sure I had picked up the tylenol 3 I was prescribed, and to check and see that I had kept my contacts out. She called again the day before the surgery to remind me of the time, that I needed a ride for after surgery, etc. I personally found it to be very helpful and only aided in comforting me. Really the surgery itself isn't much to talk about. It was incredibly quick, the actual laser was on for only 28 seconds in each eye,If you blinked you'd miss it ( You cant actually blink, obviously, that would be a bad thing haha). He performs the surgery at the San Diego Eye Bank which is great because it is super clean and has the most up-to-date lasers and equipment. I walked out feeling great, seeing probably 20/40. That day was fine, I slept alot. That night was a bit uncomfortable, definitely some pain and discomfort, but nothing to write home about. The tylenol 3 helped too. The next 2 days my eyes were quite sensitive to light, fortunately I had just been given a pair of Ray bans for Christmas so that took care of that problem. The day after follow up appointment I was seeing 20/30. By the one week appointment i was seeing between 20/25 and 20/20. After about 4 days the light sensitivity was a non issue. Its been a month and I am great. Right now I am between 20/20 and 20/15. However my vision is still improving. PRK does take time, to see full results. When I say this I mean that, although I could see 20/20 a week later, it wasn't the 20/20 I was used to with glasses. To give an example, 8 days after the surgery I was golfing, and a problem I was having was seeing my shot off the tee. I could see other peoples shots because I could watch and track the ball right away, but I definitely had problems finding and tracking my ball of the tee. This is no longer and issue, but that is what I mean when I say that it takes time. Overall, I am saying that I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Tracy. He did a great job, and both him and Natatlie made me feel comfortable and made the whole process seem like a breeze. I had prk done a month ago and I'm very happy with the results so far. I just had my 4 week checkup and I was able to see the 20/15 line fairly easily. I'm excited to see if it continues to improve since I'm told prk can take a few months to stabilize. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie are very knowledgeable and kind. I was referred to Dr. Tracy by the Carlsbad,Costco. Very convenient just around the corner. I went to the office and was followed by another lady who was behind me in the costco store too. We got to the office around the same time. The receptionist was with what looked to be a vendor - she told us she would be right with us. 40 minutes later after the vendor left and she took several phone calls she told us that the doctor was not taking any walk-ins. We of course could not believe that she could not tell us this 40 minutes before. She let us wait and wait until it was convenient for her. If this is any indication of how this practice is run I would not recommend to anyone! I called the Costco and told them of my experience I told them that they should not recommend anyone to this office as they are very unprofessional and inconsiderate. I believe the other ladies called Costco as well because the office said they had other complaints. I am in HR for a large company and I enroll employees into insurance all day long. One of the big questions is do I know a good doctor, dentist, eye doctor - I know that this one is not good and should be avoided at all cost. My advice is to find another eye doctor! read more

Can't say anything negative about his office and nothing but good things to say. The staff can't get any friendlier. They will do anything to help you, answer any questions you may have, and will do everything they can to keep you comfortable. Dr Tracy is kind and patient. You can ask the same question over and over and he'll answer it every time with a smile. The consultation was quick an extremely informative. Making my decision to get surgery was easy after meeting Dr Tracy. When the time came, he re explained how everything was going to work and made sure I was comfortable. He preformed the procedure very efficiently. After the procedure, he made sure I had everything I needed and kept himself available in case I needed him. It's been 4 months now and the hospitality and kindness is still there. I've heard horror stories about different side effects, some of them permanent. I'm happy to say that i have had no complications, but even the typical halos at night. I WILL recommend anyone looking for eye surgery to Dr Tracy. read more

I got PRK done this past summer and I am so glad I made that decision. Dr. Michael Tracy was recommended through a co-worker and it he amazing. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie are both so friendly, and very patient with all the questions I had. I was definitely nervous about the whole procedure but they made you feel so comfortable. The surgery itself was very fast and Dr. Tracy explained everything he was doing and I was very comfortable. He prescribed some pain meds and recovery was about a week for me. It took me about 3 months to finally see clearly without seeing double or being able to see far distance without having to squint. It has now been 5 months and I see 20/20 and it is such an incredible feeling not to be messing with contact lenses anymore. I feel a sense of freedom and I love it. I will absolutely be recommending Carlsbad Eye Center with Dr. Michael Tracy. They are AMAZING!!! read more
