I got PRK surgery here at Carlsbad Eye Care and was so blind I couldn't drive for almost 2 months, had to quit my job for that whole time only for in the end the surgery gave me ZERO percent improvement in my vision, it just made my corneas thinner (bad). When all was said and done, they told me to go pay someone experienced another few thousand to do it all over again. No refund at all. I went to see Dr. Tracy at Carlsbad Eye Care. I had Lasik eye surgery many years ago and was looking to have it again. The gal at the front desk was very welcoming and knowledgeable. Dr. Tracy was very friendly, yet professional. He ran me through a series of tests to see if I was a candidate to have Lasik eye surgery again. Unfortunately, I would have to get a different type of vision correction that he does not offer, and thus I would have to go to a specialist. But even after he gave me that news, he was still happy to sit with me to explain everything. He surely went above and beyond what he had to do, even though he knew he would not be able to help me. After comparing 3 different opthamologists, I went with Dr Tracy for my PRK surgery. My procedure was 8 months ago and it's safe to say I am 100% satisfied with the results. I now can see slightly better than 20/20! The pricing transparent and process for laser surgery is clearly explained. His office is private practice and the personable service shows. I also found that his price was more competitive than the LASIK institutes. I followed his post-surgery instuctions to the letter and healed much quicker than normal timelines suggest. He is located is a very nice building and his office is beautiful decorating, along with elegant leather chairs. He is the most amazing doctor. Natalie reached out to apologize for the whole situation. And while I still stand by my original review that we should have been told initially my mom's diabetes related eye problem is not within Dr. Tracy's knowledge or expertise, I appreciate the customer service for reaching out to rectify the situation. We still have opted to see an Ophthalmolgist that does understand diabetes related issues, but from past visits, Dr. Tracy has been competent. Called in to make appt for mom who has diabetes and needs her eyes checked and by an ophthalmologist every year. Natalie asked new patient questions.... My mom had visited Dr. Tracy couple times already. She should have checked once I gave her my mom's name. Natalie was ready to hang up and I asked her if she wanted to know why my mom was being seen. I let her know my mom was having difficulty w/her eyesight and her reading was becoming difficult and maybe she needed her eyes checked because she has diabetes. An hour before the appointment I called Natalie to check if it was OK to show up a little bit early to put my mom into the exam chair and have the doctor examine her while I took my son to work and I would be back within half an hour or less... Her exam is usually last between 20 to 40 minutes because they have to dilate her eyes. Natalie said that was not a problem. She asked if my mom was able to communicate and understand and I said yes she's old not feeble. When we arrived, Natalie proceeds to speak to my mom like she is a child & cannot comprehend. We had just gone over this an hour prior that my mom understands. Dr. Traci then came out and did the same thing and asked my mom what was wrong. She proceeded to tell him her symptoms and he answered, "oh no....this doesn't sound like an Ophthalmolgic problem!" I proceeded to ask them why they bothered having us come in and schedule an appointment if it wasn't something he can help with. I don't believe Dr. Travy looked at her files to see that she has diabetes and needs to be checked every year because her eyesight changes drastically. Natalie did not convey to Dr. Tracy why we were there, so between the two of them, they didn't communicate with each other to efficiently move the appointment along. I told them I had to leave and asked if he was going to do an exam on & if so , could I put her in the exam chair and run my errand while he examined her eyes. He said he didn't know if he needed to do one. At this point it became very frustrating and I realized Dr. Tracy would refer her to someone else but charge our insurance company and my mom for him not seeing her. It's funny that he would say he wasn't the right person to be seen when he has seen her for the very same problem in the prior years mom visited him. Unfortunately, he did not read up on my mom's history and made a snap decision without even examining her. It was a waste of our time especially as it is difficult for my mom to be transported anywhere she is paralyzed on her left side. Dr. Tracy and his wife/receptionist Natalie need to interface more about incoming patients to be able to expedite the visit as well as understand what kind of exam needed. I am definitely going to take my mom elsewhere for her appointment. After this, I called another Ophthalmolgist; one that actually got on the phone and listened to my description of my mom's symptoms. They said absolutely it was an Ophthalmolgy appt because of her diabetes, and that she might need a new prescription as well as check her eyes if the diabetes is affecting them. I am definitely disappointed with Dr. Tracy, Natalie, and their lack of communication and professional judgment and wasting both my mom's and my time. I absolutely would not recommend going to this Ophthalmolgist. PS I used to work for years with world renowned Ophthalmolgists at UCLA's Doris Stein Eye Institute.... As a military member I had the option of getting my PRK done for free. Instead I paid for Dr. Tracy. I had researched the procedure beforehand but he still took the time to explain everything even advising that the safest way to go is glasses. After 20+ years of really bad vision (-6.5) this has been great and I don't regret paying. I'm now nearly a month post PRK and my vision is like I've never had it. I realize that perhaps all the optometrist may have the same procedures but his practice was very clear, easy to schedule appointments or adjust to my hectic schedule, and friendly. For military folks he offers a good discount and in comparison the healing process is much faster than others I've heard that went with the similar procedure. read more

I received prk and was so nervous about the process. I went to several doctors until I was 100% confident with my choice. This man is a class act. I felt he was completely competent dealing with my eyes, the only two I have and will ever have. I actually got a piece of metal flake in my eye shortly after surgery which scratched my eye, he took me in that morning and cut off excess skin so it would heal more quickly. After considering laser surgery for a while, I went for a consultation with Dr. Tracy who recommended PRK rather than Lasik. He performed the procedure and I ended up with quite a bit more severe dryness than I ever believed possible but more importantly, my vision is not 100% corrected and I am in pain every day over 2 years later. Dr. Tracy was defensive and dismissive in follow up appointments where I discussed my struggles. I had to see another doctor who told me that he believes I have nerve damage; something fairly common but not mentioned in the paper work as a possibility. I far and away consider this the worst decision I ever made and now I am left with an astigmatism that I didn't have before so my glasses that I had to get don't really work that well, I can't see at night, I am in pain and the most insulting part, I paid someone to do it to me. read more

I had PRK done in the beginning of May and after 3 months my vision is 20/15. Dr. Tracy and his wife Natalie, were amazing through the whole process. From the pre-op appointments, all the way to my 3 month post-op appt in August, they were great in their attitudes and answering any questions I had. Going from someone that wore contacts which were -6 and -6.25, with a slight astigmatism, I couldn't be happier now to just get up, roll out of bed and get my day started. Before choosing a doctor for my laser eye surgery I did a large amount of research including looking at reviews for multiple doctors. As per the usual with any business, every doctor has at least one scathing review; except for Dr Tracy. I ended up choosing this office for my treatment and I am so happy that I did! I am 3 months s/p PRK surgery and I am very happy with my results. I am able to see everything clear without any problems, day and night. 10 days after my procedure was a little concerning because I was seeing blurry and it was difficult to get through a full 12 hour shift at work, but Dr. Tracy assured me that it would get better a couple days after and he was absolutely correct. I had been wearing glasses/contacts for 12 years when I finally got PRK from Doc Tracy at carlsbad eye care. I went from only being able to see the big "E" on a vision test to having solid 20/15 vision seven days after my surgery. At my month check up I had 20/10. I would reccomend this office to anyone, both the doc and his wife are great people that have a passion for fixing vision and ensuring that your eyes are healing properly post surgery. Also another big plus, I couldn't get PRK through the Marine Corps and doc Tracy had a $500.00 discount for active duty mitary. Over all I spent the best $2700.00 of my life.
