It's clean and well-kept. The waiting room has water bottles; the reception staff are very kind; there's even guest Wifi available. The facilities has several examination "rooms"; I only say rooms in quotes because the "rooms" are more partitions; there's not a true wall between them, but it's not an issue. Dr. Terracina and his staff were very impressive. Dr. Terracina is very personable and very knowledgeable. I heard his interaction with other patients, and he was very kind and educational, and he was the same with me. He took his time with me, explained everything that was going on, educated me on multiple options. He was both very straightforward but also very compassionate. I felt valued, educated, and enabled to make the best decision moving forward. Really impressed with this guy. He was very straightforward about what he could do in his office, and he had lots of contacts for specialists and gave me a referral to one for procedures he felt someone else would do better. I went to Roswell Wellness Dentistry, formerly Shenk Dentistry, and my cleaning was done by Becca. She was terrible, she failed to cover my face during the process and i ended up with water and additive all over my face. She was rough in handling and painful in probing my gums, and during the appointment she left without explanation for several minutes. Also, interrupted my cleaning to help another employee with login problem. Her overall attitude was like she wanted to be somewhere else doing something other than cleaning my teeth. Then another employee took 15 minutes to take my x-rays, repeating the same steps numerous times. Since ownership changes in this practice the quality of overall service has suffered. Life is too short to accept poor service, go somewhere else for professional dentistry.

Since then, I've also had 2 professional bleachings (3 years apart) and more recently, a deep cleaning for gum issues that are starting to become a problem. My point is, my teeth look fine and no one would ever have anything bad to say about them, but they certainly aren't Hollywood perfect either. I've always been intrigued by veneers and the way they can improve a B- smile to an A++ smile so after thinking about them, and saving up, for the last 6 years or so (I had heard that veneers were approx $1k each), I finally decided this would be the year to start seriously considering getting veneers and Googled my way to 4 cosmetic dentists with fantastic reviews. NOTE: I automatically crossed off the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry because I knew it would be insanely expensive simply because it's a "name" everyone knows and thinks of first when it comes to veneers. Below, I'm going to review THIS particular practice for the most part and link you to the other dentists so I can keep these reviews as relevant as possible. Also, keep in mind that I'm reviewing these practices for COSMETIC dentistry only. If I were to guess, all 4 of these would be great choices for general dentistry. Dentist #1: Dr. Boulden (http://www.yelp.com/biz/atlanta-dental-spa-roswell) + spent 90% of my appointment talking to the Dr. - $1700 per veneer Dentist #2: Dr. Giesler (http://www.yelp.com/biz/dina-j-giesler-dds-magd-and-associates-atlanta) + spent 85% of my appointment talking to the Dr. + quoted me $1500 total for bleaching & bonding to achieve the look I wanted without veneers + $1500 per veneer if I really want to go that route Dentist #3: Dr. Patel - My appt was for 2PM but I showed up at 1:30 to fill out paperwork, only to discover that the entire office takes lunch from 1-2 daily. A hygienist who wondered to the front desk saw me & attempted to locate the new patient forms without luck so she suggested that I go to Starbucks. I thought it was a bit strange of a suggestion coming from a dentist's office but took her up on it anyway and went next door to stain my teeth for a half hour. + The waiting area is small, but comfortable. There's a big TV playing Planet Earth (yes!) and a smaller TV showing before & after photos of Dr. Patel's patients (kinda gross sometimes) and a chimp getting fillings (??) - Instead of "smile books" like the other offices I've been in, the table here had mostly pageantry and Jezebel magazines. This made sense later on when I learned that Dr. Patel did Miss Georgia's veneers. - At 2PM, Christina, the "new patient concierge" who used to work at "The Center [for Cosmetic Dentistry]", took me to a small office that seemingly had no other purpose except to host consultations. This was unexpected as I had gotten to sit in the usual reclining dental chairs at both Dr. Boulden's and Dr. Giesler's offices. And as the change in setting indicated, I did not actually get my teeth examined at Dr. Patel's (which, in my mind, equals a less accurate assessment of what my needs are). - Similarly, Christina only took 2 pictures of my teeth whereas Dr. Giesler's office got at least 4 and Dr. Boulden's office got at least 10. - I told Christina that I've been really bad with using my retainers so I would like my teeth to be whiter and straighter in general. She recommended that I look into Invisalign for $5500 + bleaching instead of veneers. Umm,...I really appreciate that you're providing me with an alternative to consider but did I not just say that I'm bad with retainers? If I can't even keep those in for more than 24 hours/week, does she seriously think I can deal with Invisalign's 24 hours/day for the next 365 days routine?! If I really had that kind of discipline, I would just use my current retainers for free and get the same results in a year... + Finally, Dr. Patel made his appearance and looked at my teeth pics on the big screen. From talking to him, he seemed very knowledgeable and I got the sense that he is very good at what he does. He said he didn't really think I need veneers but that he would do them if that's what I really wanted (this is a plus in my book because I tend to get riled up when people try to tell me what to do or what not to do). He also said I wouldn't be the youngest person he's ever done veneers on...as a matter of fact, I would be the same age as when Miss Georgia got hers. - I only got to spend 50% of my appointment talking to the Dr. and I found him to be overly nice and a bit fake (we just didn't click). - $2000 per veneer SUMMARY: Very good doctor overall, but I would personally choose Dr. Boulden for veneers based on his expertise, past patient photos, and price. Dentist #4: Dr. Flax (http://www.yelp.com/biz/flax-dental-atlanta-2)

I really wanted to overlook those issues and continue bringing my family here, but when there are problems almost every time we visit, it becomes too stressful. If you're a new patient, my advice is to verify that the office has confirmed they are in-network with your insurance BEFORE your appointment--even if your insurance company lists them as in-network. The office says they verify insurance the day before your visit and will contact you if they don't accept it. Naturally, you assume everything is fine if you never hear from them and no one mentions anything at check-in. However, in our experience, they sometimes verify your insurance while you're already there, only to tell you at checkout that they don't accept your insurance and that you're responsible for the full balance. In all fairness for this instance, the balance was finally written off after I complained about it. The same applies if you're having anything beyond a routine cleaning. Make sure they've verified whether the procedure is covered by your insurance BEFORE treatment begins. I repeatedly expressed my concerns and was always reassured that things would improve, but issues continued to happen. The office considers it a courtesy if they don't collect payment at checkout and offer various payment options to make your payment. I don't see that as accommodating when the situation could have been avoided with proper insurance verification beforehand. In one instance when my husband was given the "courtesy" to not pay at checkout, the moment he left his appointment, I received a text with photos of his invoice, the balance due, and a payment link. I was also told that because the insurance policy is in my name, I am responsible for his bill and I will be sent to collections if the bill is not paid, which I found frustrating. I understand mistakes happen, and I know times are difficult for many families. That's exactly why clear communication and accurate insurance verification are so important. Unfortunately, I was told I am the only one having these issues with the office, even though they kept occurring. It's disappointing because Dr. Mitchell is a great dentist. Sadly, the ongoing problems with the front office and billing have outweighed the quality of the dental care for my family. I'll be relieved once this final bill is paid and we can move on.

Multiple BILLING ISSUES: I've been a patient at Atlanta West Dentistry for over five years…read more Initially, I was very pleased with their services the staff seemed professional, the reviews were great, and the dental work met my expectations. However, over time, I've encountered multiple ongoing billing issues that have ultimately led to my decision to leave this practice. One of the main issues involved overcharges of hundreds of dollars, primarily by front desk staff (specifically Hailey). These discrepancies were only corrected after I contested the charges using my Explanation of Benefits (EOB). While I appreciated that some credits were eventually applied to my account, these errors continued to occur raising serious concerns about accuracy and transparency. Even after addressing previous issues, the same pattern repeated. I strongly recommend that anyone receiving treatment here carefully review their EOBs and compare them to what they are being charged out-of-pocket. On one occasion, I was told I had fillings done on both tooth #2 and #5, yet I clearly remember work being done only on tooth #2. Despite voicing this, I was still billed for both. When I requested clarification, Robin attempted to explain the charges, but they still did not align with what was billed to my insurance provider. This experience has not only been frustrating but has also led me to question the integrity of some of the billing and treatment practices. It's deeply disappointing after years of being a loyal patient. As a result, I will no longer be returning to Atlanta West Dentistry, and I will be transferring the care of my entire family elsewhere. I'm also advising anyone I previously referred to this practice to check their billing statements closely or consider other options. I hope this review serves as a helpful warning for others to be vigilant and protect themselves from potential overcharges or miscommunication. I asked how that could be possible as they are the ones that determine which they accept. Short story - No help, I was given only some company names. My estimate for a procedure was given verbally rather than listing services. The default when you're leaving your appointment is they tell you what date and time the next one is verbally, as though someone is going to remember it six months from now. You have to ask for it in writing which just comes off as cheap. How much does it cost to give a card telling me when to come back and give you money again? If you don't have insurance, they don't seem to want your business.
