I've had these two vintage pieces for quite some time now (I bought the Roger Rabbit comic as a kid in 94) and finally got around to having them matted and framed. Easily the worst Michaels I've been to. Disorganized shelving and one of the poorest customer experiences I've had at this chain, which is saying something. Ended up spending close to fifteen minutes in line... Doesn't sound like much...unless there's literally just *one* person ahead of you in line, there's a single cashier, and a store employee looking on who can't be bothered to open up a register. Seriously, he just stood around as he saw me give a little wave to see if they could open up a register since the person ahead of me has a mountain of merchandise that's literally falling out of their cart. He sees the wave, ignores it. Then he wanders outside, wanders back inside, sees me still waiting, wanders behind the counter to take a phone call, then shuffles off into the store. Then he comes back a few minutes later, sees me STILL waiting, then decides to meander behind a register and reluctantly open it up. Wow. Thanks, guy. My wife and I found some good Christmas decor bits on clearance today. We enjoyed perusing the store and taking our time. One thing we noticed though of all the employees roaming the aisles, not one greeted us. At checkout our cashier appeared to be wearing a permanent frown, didn't greet us, and only uttered a word after my wife asked her how her day was going. I was shopping and an employee came up to tell me they close in 25 minutes. I get that, he wanted to make sure I knew they were about to close. But then when I was shopping I felt like I was being followed. Again, I don't mind. But then a woman working had me take off my headphones to ask if I'd be paying with cash or card (as I was looking at different fabrics). I said card. She said they're about to close. I looked at my phone at it was exactly 10 minutes till close so I asked if I still had 10 minutes and she said yes then walked away. Is it really necessary to follow people around and repeatedly inform them when the store is closing? The woman's tone gave the impression of "get out." I felt incredibly unwelcomed when I was in the store while it was still open. I understand if she acted that way towards me once the store had already closed. Edit: I want to add that when I clicked "submit" on this review it was 8:59. That means I had enough time to walk to my car, write this very long paragraph, proof read it, and send it before the store had even closed. That shows how I really wasn't even close to being there past closing time. read more

I came in the other evening with about 25 minutes till closing, I made a shopping list ahead of time on the website with all the aisle numbers & I only needed about 7 items. I get there & my service sucks inside the building, that's okay connect to Michael's guest wifi -- it took about 5-7 minutes to even get connected. Next the website SUCKS (not the stores fault) but there's no place to access your shopping list & the stupid website kept changing "my store" to a location I was nowhere near! At this point I am so stressed out there's 15 minutes till closing, this was for a school project that was for my six year old & at this point I'm almost in tears because of frustration. I come across the manager, Sara, who is doing an awesome job with her closing duties & I probably bugged the sh*t out of her but she was so nice & helped me find every individual item by literally walking me through the store to find them. She told me she understood my situation because she has a kiddo and she didn't make me feel like or act like I was totally annoying her; and I'm sure I totally was because it was almost closing, thankfully I got everything I needed. My wife and I had bought something in Italy that we wanted framed and the staff took care of us matching the frame and matting to the item and to our liking then took a picture to show us how it would look. You may be looking for the Michael's that used to be in the Target strip center off Lakeline Mall Drive, and then left a note with a forwarding address to this location. This isn't it; this is a new store. Whereas the old Michael's had a somewhat worn, picked over, tired feel and half-interested employees, this one is fully stocked with colorful goods, fresh, bright, and has the nicest bunch of employees I've yet encountered at a Michael's in Austin. Get this: they actually walk up and ask if they can help you, and then they do. That might seem like a simple thing, but it's never been part of my Michael's experience. I recently had a number of items framed in the custom frame shop, and dealt with several employees, including the manager. All were creative, enthusiastic, and detailed. I ended up loving what they did. Their prices run high, as we know, but they often seem to have a framing sale for 50-60% off, which I definitely took advantage of. They also have rotating sales for various departments in their store, including--you guessed it--frames! You can stalk their sales flyers online through their store site, so you'll know what is on sale before you go. Flowers, craft items, mums (homecoming is coming up!), art supplies, yarn, etc. all abound. If you have your eye on something not on sale, you can use their 40% off one item coupon on your smartphone at the checkout line. read more

How does a craft store not stock 11x14 matted frames? It's only the most popular size in galleries. The "framer person" with a lot of metal piercings her face was seriously unhelpful. Me: "I see some frames on top shelf I could use". Framer: "that would require me to call someone and bring that big ladder thing". So...I never got those frames. I just left this store, found everything I want, but I'm feeling really rotten because the checkout process. ..... This happens a lot at the store for me. It's hard to put my finger on, but with this checkout gentleman, I felt like I was disturbing him and perhaps being annoying. In return, I felt like he was both condescending and judgmental. These are harsh words, but at most stores the checkout people are happy that I spent $400 with them and they usually ask me what kind of projects I'm working on. Frankly, I now wish had just gone to my favorite Michael's in Cedar Park. The manager there is amazing and she gives me alternative design ideas for my projects. Plus she helps load my van -- which is a wonderful service for this arthritic old guy ..... As background, I am a commercial artist and I'm in this Michael's buying a lot of stuff (usually $400 to $700). ..... In closing, if customer service improves and at checkout I will be more than pleased to move the rating to a five. I love all the items Michael stops. read more

This Micheal's location is fairly new, between the Lakeline Alamo and the Lakeline HEB Plus. Although it is a newer location, there's not much new to this Micheal's as compared to other stores in the area. They do have a great amount of craft items - not as much sewing stuff as Joann's, and not as much decor stuff as Hobby Lobby. They are still a really decent option for craft stuff. I also like them because they are a fantastic option to not shopping at Hobby Lobby, (yah, that whole thing) and so this Micheal's is my first choice for a craft store in my area. Why three stars then? Why the lower rating? Eh, you know honestly I really wish they would carry more stock of things. For example, I went in looking for calligraphy pens and they just didn't have a lot of options. I ended up ordering pens off Amazon and crossing my fingers, hoping they'd be the ones I needed instead. I also went looking for Christmas stickers a few weeks ago. They had a lot of Christmas stuff out, but their Christmas sticker selection was one tiny section of not so great options. They apparently just didn't have them all put out on the shelves yet - I went two days ago and they had a good stock. So, three stars for improvements needed in quantity of stock and options. Otherwise, you'll definitely find me here - the employees are decent and I can always find a coupon on my phone to use which is great. read more

One of the best looking stores in Austin but their staff needs a serious lesson in customer service. I frequent all the craft stores in the North Austin area as I own a handmade online business. I make large purchases, some tax exempt, and no my way around sales and coupons. I made a purchase with a coupon. Remembered I had forgotten something else I wanted to buy, grabbed it, and came back to the register ready to use another one of MANY coupons that Michael's provides in the app, email, through matching competitor rates, etc. The same cashier quickly rings me up and tells me I can't use a coupon on a separate transaction in the same day. Excuse you?! I told her I have a DIFFERENT coupons and she proceeds to ring me up. Which she knows because they are right there on the app. It's in your best interest to help your customers have a good experience. Especially if all you have to do is wait for them to pull up a separate and totally valid coupon. On another occasion, I waited in line about ten minutes and when it was my turn, and I was the last in line. I walk up to the register and am halfway there. The cashier turns off her light and walks way without a word. *crickets* Don't make assumptions about my intentions and not have the decency to humble yourself and lose the attitude. Will not shop this location again and definitely sharing feedback with corporate. They get 2 stars from me for having solid inventory. They usually have everything in stock. read more

Great arts & crafts store with just about anything you could need for any craft imaginable. They have frequent sales on great stuff, coupons available by app and mailer, and a great staff to help you get the best deal on your purchases. Michaels has monthly classes to help you hone in on craft skills such as sewing, embroidery, framing, and they even have classes for the kids!! Highly recommended, but don't shop without bringing your coupons!! read more

I am so excited that Michaels is in my neighborhood. I made a huge decision to reframe one of my prized paintings. This painting, when it was initially framed at Garden Ridge was damaged by the store and I was really very angry. Therefore it was with great trepidation that I brought my artwork to Michaels for reframing. I met with Sam who was incredibly personal and professional. With his help I selected a great frame and he repaired the damage to my painting at no additional charge. I also framed another artwork and Sam's keen eye was instrumental in my selecting an awesome border and frame. This artwork really pops with my new frame and border! With ONLINE shopping becoming the "way of the World" one would think that the Brick and Mortar stores would step UP their game instead of driving people away! I REFUSE to go to the Michael's here is Cedar Park (Lakeline and 183). The worst employees ever and the manager is condescending, rude and just out right mean! LORD, do not question anything becuase she will scold you like a child. I waited in line for 27 min. There was only 1 cashier and she kept calling for help, and NO ONE showed up. Finally the manager came with attitude to say the least. Like it was our fault we were putting her out my shopping in the store. The item I purchased was on sale, huge sign to prove it, it rang up wrong so I asked if I would get the sale price. She proceeded to tell me that as you can tell we are short staffed and the sale was on LAST week they just had no one to take down the signs.. So my response was I am sorry but you still have to honor the sign. She said she would not and her explaination was valid. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I left everything I had just purchased and walked out. I will never go back.. :( More variety and better stuff at Hobby Lobby! and they honor their sales! read more
