Being down in Toledo stadium area there isn't a whole lot of choices to go for breakfast. We chose to go to Michaels, there is a bar area and also a restaurant area. This is definitely an older business and it definitely shows the wear. The waitress was very nice and efficient, the choices weren't a lot but they were enough to find something. The breakfast was kind of meh, eggs over easy came pan fried and steamed and a little bit watery when they were served. The hash browns were definitely rehydrated potatoes from Gordon's. The place has a lot of character, but I can't say that I would give it my recommendation. read more

We've been wanting to try this place, but always seem to forget about it. We were on a mission last weekend! We parked in the back and followed a few people inside for some breakfast. This place reminded me of the bars I used to visit that were a neighborhood bars where there's tons of regulars. The menu is short and sweet, but it has all you need. I love coming here for breakfast but lunch is equally delicious. Staff is great. I love the old school grill behind the bar. Did I mention they have a full bar? Went there for lunch yesterday and had a "difficult" experience. The food was fine, but the waitress was "unorganized" at best. My dining partner and I both ordered coleslaws. The waitress brought mine first and then 3-5 minutes later she brought my dining partner's slaw. I guess our waitress kind of missed the mark. If you go here, try to sit in the back room. The waitresses back there are really good at what they do. Three stars mean average in my ratings. Take it or leave it territory for me. I pledge allegiance to my hometown of Warren, OH USA. Other than than all bets are off including Toledo which I have kind of lived in for 15 years including college if you include all the traveling I do for work. Servers are very nice but the average breakfast is about the same amount and quality as it is 5 miles closer to my house. Bacon eggs toast hash browns for 7.50. Yep same price. I had lunch here few years back and it was a bit cheaper but I checked the beer selection. Nothing for me. Yes I am picky craft beer lady. Didnt want liquor at 1pm this day. Now tomorrow my be different but not today! Wink. Nothing stood out and that's why I come here once every 3 years. Nothing special here for me. read more

Michael's is a wonderful little café with great Midwestern and Greek specialties, as well as plenty of all-American café staples, all served large and cheap. If you're downtown and want a quick lunch, or if you've never been to the Midwest before and want some good local grub, this is the place. I ordered a small chili mac, a bowl of their Greek chicken-lemon-rice soup, and a lemonade-iced-tea. The Greek chicken-lemon-rice soup is made 100% from scratch, from a recipe brought from the old country (I think by the owner's wife?). It's the kind of soup you can eat any season, light, but comforting. The Cincinnati-style chili atop the pasta was as hearty as ever, with the raw onions adding a nice bite, mellowed by the shredded cheese. It doesn't look or sound like much, but seriously, it's a wonderful dish, made special by the blend of spices in the chili. Mix it up before eating for best effect. And remember, a "small" is actually an ordinary-sized portion, with the "large" being gargantuan. Meanwhile, my mother enjoyed her eggs and sausage patties, though to me, lunch items are more a thing here than breakfast. Our friend enjoyed his cheeseburger, as well. The restaurant is divided in two wings. I'd recommend eating at the tables and booths closer to the bar, as the further wing is kind of cold at times. The staff are friendly, and the place is full of regulars. Good for groups, too--it's not uncommon to see a crew of cops or firefighters eating here, or businesspeople looking for a quick bite between meetings. And despite all the space and the variety of items on the menu, service is always speedy. Michael's is a classic Toledo establishment. I'd highly recommend stopping in for a little chili mac and soup if you're nearby. It's definitely stood the test of time and seen a lot of changes downtown, and its cheap, delicious, filling meals are the reason why. read more

There are lots of people who live downtown now and we like to bike and there is no place to lock a bike up at. This is the place to be to soak in the downtown Toledo vibe. It's family run and the bar selection and menu is right on target. You will almost always find a politician or business meeting going on in this restaurant. The service is quick and the food is savory. It's been awhile since I've found a restaurant worthy of a review, let alone a "5 star" review...but here goes, let me tell you about our first of many visits to Michael's. So, upon entry, it would seem like any other bar, until...well I can't go there yet, it would spoil the surprise, kind of like the one I got. Ok, anyways, so we get seated, and the waitress takes our drink order, an amaretto sour and a margarita on the rocks. We proceed to read over the menu and my eyes widen as I spot a gyro on the menu, just waiting to be ordered. So, my husband gets a cheeseburger, and I, of course, a beef gyro. When the food arrives, I'm taken aback at the presentation, as it was not what I was expecting from a bar, it was very well put together, someone had some pride in what they do, for sure. Now comes the taste test....OMG, I cannot express how amazing this gyro was. The pita was warm and soft, the beef wasn't dry, it was very well seasoned, and the tsaziki sauce, that sauce was phenomenal. It left me full, but wanting more, which is what good food should do. It was fantastic. My husband said the cheeseburger was good, which gives them a glowing food review, but alas, I didn't mention the drinks other than what we ordered, because, apparently, mixed drinks WERE NOT our waitresses' strength. Even with that being said, EVERY, and I mean EVERY gyro I eat from now on will be compared to the one I had today, if I can even bring myself to eat one from somewhere else. A must eat in Toledo. Paid $5.95 for a small Greek salad and $1.50 extra for feta. First for extra feta that is a bit high, but I love feta so I was willing to pay. The salad came in a container the size of a hot dog!! So, $7.50 for a small Greek salad that was smaller than a side salad. To top it off it wasn't even that good and had more beets than actual Greek salad.
