I like this Michaels in the Brea area, it is nice and clean, well lit and stocked with plenty of items for lots of different projects. I came here with my fiance to look for some items for our wedding reception, and was surprised to find everything we needed in one place. The staff was friendly the bathrooms were clean the store again is well lit and they even have an area where they have some classes for the little kids, arts and crafts. I shop at Michael's very frequently and while the associates are usually very kind and helpful, there was one woman checking out today that was extremely rude. She was an older woman with light brown, curly short hair and I was trying to buy a 9x13 inch cake box but when I was at checkout I realized the box was torn and unusable. My boyfriend went to grab a new one and when he came back that one was torn as well. Instead of apologizing for leaving merchandise that can't be purchased on the shelf, the sales associate snapped at us and said "I mean it's a rectangle, what are you looking for?" We eventually found a usable box and later in the transaction when I asked if I could input my rewards number for points, she snapped at me again and said "Well I already got it from your coupon." She was a very unpleasant person and I was unable to get her name because her name tag was not on but she made me feel very unwelcome in a store that I love shopping at. I'm giving Michael's one star on this review (although I would never on any other day) because this sales associate was extremely and unnecessarily rude. read more

I guess if you're looking for dried flowers and have all day to wait in line, this is the place to go. But if you're trying to have some custom framing done, forget about it and go next door to Aaron Bros! Went on Monday with pictures of what I wanted including something that needed to be copied and waited at the custom framing section for about five minutes and no one ventured out from the back to help me. Finally, some nice young lady who worked there but was actually off work, walked in back and found me some help. I was informed that they could not copy anything and I would have to come back with the copy myself. The person didn't bother to ask any other details, just walked away. So...I make copy, come back the next day and ask for the same person who was on break. Young man said he didn't do framing but would help me. RED FLAG! I showed him what needed to be done and he informed me they couldn't cut anything out themselves. Now we are talking about a paragraph from a newsletter, not a DiVinci work of art!! He told me to come back and walked away. As he was walking away, I said, "so I've made two trips here and now have to make a third one"? He turned quickly and aggressively to me and said, "what did you say to me"? Of course I answered his smart-ass question with my original question and asked if he wanted me to repeat it louder so the whole store could hear me! He didn't expect that. As I was leaving, I was thinking I had several other items custom framed here with no problems so what was going on? Then I had to laugh to myself as I walked out front and realized it wasn't Michaels that had done such a great job for me, but rather Aaron Brothers right next door! Happy results as I went into Aaron Brothers and was immediately helped by Steve who took excellent care of me. Botttom line, fried flower = Michaels. My phone was dead so I left it in the car. As I approached the register I said Hi to the cashier TRACI and asked if she had a coupon I could use, because my phone was dead. She looked at me plainly and irritatedly said: I'll help you this time, but can I see your phone if it is really dead? And I said, I left it in the car. I'm far from being artsy. I'm just gonna be honest. I was waiting for Nordstrom Rack to open and Nature was calling. Michael's was open (thank God), so I was killing two birds with one stone. The customer service at this store is aweful. My friend and i went in to look for something out of the hallloween section. She found what she wanted and the lady at the register rang it up. She then asked if they were off the display and we said yes. When she asked the male who worked there if they could be sold, he said rudely, not till the 1st. 90% of the store is display, the items had pricetags on them so why couldnt they be sold?? This place is a life saver. Whenever my boys have school projects I come here to get all the crafts and supplies. They never disappoint. I've come here to get supplies for babyshower favors, wedding items, DIY projects, and holiday decorations. They always have what I need and most recently I bought some cute home decor items. I'm a definite cheap ass so I always come prepared with a coupon which they are very generous with...25% off entire purchase, 40% of any regular priced item, etc. This will always be my go-to Michael's. read more

I don't think that I've often given a lot of 1-star reviews but by the gods this was one of the worst Michael's experiences I ever had. I love Michael's and just needed to get some hangers for some frames. Lady in the framing department hadn't heard of what I was looking for but found them and I was happy...until I got to the checkout counter and met Sami. I realize it was Father's Day and she probably didn't want to be there, but she couldn't have been any less helpful or friendly. However, if I gave a star for every eye-roll she gave my wife and I this would be a 10-star rating. We couldn't find the coupon online, but finally found it and then it wouldn't link so she accused of finding a Google image. Asked for the manager, which made her smirk and the manager came and let us know that it would be on their site. I let the manager know how disrespectful Sami was and she just shrugged. We found a different coupon Sami reluctantly did the transaction because her manager told her too. I would not be writing but things must be said about Customer Service... My husband and I just got married at the ending of May this year. we ordered two 11x14 photos. One of which went to my mother. I wanted to surprise her and so i went to Michaels to buy a frame. Well, as it turns out the frame I got was cracked and I did not see the crack because it was in the back of the frame. She did not want to tell us so she thought she would take the frame back, still in its wrapping without a receipt, and just exchange it. I never knew something so simple could be so hard. They returned the frame at the lowest price and gave her store credit for the frame then charged her for the exact same frame. The only thing is they charged her full price and let her use a 40% off coupon which she ended up with a balance of $10 after the store credit was taken off. I could not believe that returning a broken product and getting it exchanged for the exact same item, that they would be greedy and charge her more to replace exact same product. Then when I went there and gave them the original receipt they sill had the nerve to tell me if they had the receipt they would have not charged her more money but they charged her more because they did not know how much we paid for the frame. I do not have a problem with the lowest price of the return without a receipt, However I do have a big problem with them trying to get more money for a damaged product that they sold. Even if the product needed to be put into the computer system, it still should have been an even exchange because it was the same exact frame. They should not have charged her more money for the same product. It should have been replaced for the same exact frame because the frame was bought broken. I love Michaels I do I shop there way too much. I am a student and my major is education. so i use Michaels for school and work, but after this weekend I do not think I will be going back to that Michaels ever again. This Michaels location is closest to home so I frequent it whenever i have any artsy projects for parties. They have everything you could think of and some good deals like 50% off artificial flowers, etc just depends on when you go. Look on the website for coupons!!! You can combine the coupons! Today i used the 40% off one item and 30% off entire purchase together! I love that! Wish they had more employees out in the aisles because it can be hard to find what you are looking for at times. I'm just a bit bothered. Went in to use my 40% off coupon on supplies for a bday gift I was working on. I wasn't buying anything extrodinary expensive so I wasn't expecting the discount to be anything grand. Once I get to the register ring up my items and then at the last minute grab a .49 cent candy... placed there conveniently to intice a last minute impulse purchase... I say "why not". Hand it to the employee to ring and add to my purchase and have her scan my coupon from my Michael's mobile App account. My mind start to wonder about birthday plans already starting as I'm rushing to get these last items. I'm told my total and slide my card to pay, thank yous are exchanged and I'm off. While driving home I begin to replay the total I was given... but wait... did my coupon not ring up? But I recall glanssing at the monitor and seeing that it did scan. I pull the receipt from the bag and to my surprise my 40% coupon got me a whole .20 cents off my last minute candy purchase. I'm glad to have taken the time to have a Michael's account, downloaded the app and searched for this coupon... Thank you Michael's. Not sure why the register wouldn't apply the coupon to the highest costing item on my purchase or why the employee couldn't have been just a bit more helpful to get a valued customer the best deal available. Now, ok the most expensive item I was getting was 3.99 so my discount at most was going to be 1.50 but for the fact of customer service alone... I mean come on. I'll be sure going forward, since it might be minuscule or just not worth it to Michael's and some of their employees, to insure my own customer satisfaction I'll have to be just a little difficult and demand that my items be rung up separately so that I can be granted the best prices available that you should already be providing me without me having to go through more of a hassle. Or maybe it's that you would rather us give our business to competitive stores or just to another Michael's that may value and want us as returning customers to their branch. The store was empty. There was no line. They have a long isle set up for a line (as usual) which is helpful during a rush hour time. Today they were making a few elderly people walk through the long isle when there was a clear short path for them to walk up and check out. Service at this Michael's was horrendous. My fiancé and I went in to buy a unity sand set for our wedding. We asked for help from a young guy to find a funnel to poor the sand into the vase. The employee sarcastically laughed.... "Well that is CHEESEY." My fiancé immediately starting crying after his comment and he was extremely unapologetic. I got the offer on my smart phone, but my phone froze, and i couldn't get the code for them to scan. They would not give me the discount even though they could see I had it. My purchase was $55. Yes I love my Michaels. I am a Michaels nazi. I was going to use another word, but perhaps it's a bit inappropriate on here. :P This Michaels is pretty big, one of the bigger ones I've been too. It's nice and actually pretty organized despite all the other Yelp reviews. I got what I needed and went to the cashier. I always use my 40% and 50% coupons. and I always try to use as many as the cashier would let me. Yes, it's limited to one per customer a day, but that's stupid, because I can just come back..it's just inconvenient to me. Sometimes they let me use two different coupons because they're different (like the 40 or the 50)....They should change that stupid policy. Usually the cashiers are pretty nice about it. But this one, she was young and I thought she's be understanding, but she was rude and condescending. She was like no, that's the policy. I'm like yes I know but sometimes people just let me..she's like no, no no. Then when the coupon printed out with my receipt, she circled the fine print for the coupon and said that's the policy read it. WHAT! RUDE! jeez. sometimes rules are made to be broken, especially stupid ones. argh. read more

I come to this Michaels because it's the closet to where I live--but it's also great! It's clean, spacious. The only complaint I have is that they don't always have everything in stock :( especially the jumbo size punchers. And when things are on sale--things go out FAST--you'll see racks empty! This review is strictly for their birthday parties. My daughter was invited to a party there and the kids were supposed to create 4 different crafts in 2 hours. I understand they charge less compared to other art studios, but if the quality is not there, it's really upsetting. To begin with, the kids were supposed to trace drawings to make a mask. There were 9 kids and the only employee there runs in and out several times. Then she says, "Well, we only have two pencils so we we just share." Huh? Then, the employee doesn't really run the show. She just walks around and tells each kid what to do. The weird thing is she starts cutting and glueing for almost all the kids. Obviously some of the kids are not engaged and start walking around and acting up. I thought the whole idea is that kids would get to do the work. Anyway, finally they get to the second project, which is supposed to be a bookmark. Once again the kids spend tons of time tracing and cutting, which the employee keeps offering to cut and glue for them again. They don't even provide enough scissors and kids need to wait. Oh did I mention they only had ONE bottle of glue that the employee held on during the whole workshop? In the end, there were only 10 minutes left and in a rush all the parents help the kids glue the cutout owl's eyes, beak, and feet. We all leave without the bookmark, just a cutout felt owl. I walked away from this birthday party thinking what a waste of two hours. That should have been accomplished in 30 minutes if Michael's had gotten the supplies and materials ready. They also needed someone more experienced running the party. She was reading instructions as she was leading the projects. Do I need to say more? read more

Store has a great selection of arts and crafts. My daughter needed supplies for a school project and we found everything she needed. We bought poster paper, glue gun, paint, brushes and markers. Very upset. My daughter signed up for cake decorating classes that were to start 2/8, Instructor: Maryanne. I bought all the required items $75. My daughter took PTO hours so she could leave work early to come to class. Outside of the disappointment, there is definitely a cost factor here. The store employee apologized, and said Monica would call her Thursday. Thursday, no call. Friday by 5pm, no call, so I called on her behalf asked to speak to store manager, Mike. I was literally on hold for a total of 23 minutes. During which I called from my home phone only to have the phone be answered, and hung up.. This went on for aprox. 15 minutes. While on hold, on cell phone, I drove to Michael's. Mike was gone, and Monica was sitting in an office visiting with a young employee. She apologized and said she didn't have an answer, that is why she didn't call on Thursday. Monica did call my daughter late Friday and said she still did not have an answer. Today is now Wednesday, the second scheduled day of the class, and no phone call. So I called, spoke to Monica who offered a refund. Horrible customer service. I had to chase Monica down. Basically we have a shoulder shrug with sorry, can't get a hold of instructor. There will be a new instructor next month you can apply your payment towards. No thank you. read more
