As expected the sales guys are all GUNG-HO and will tell (sell) you anything. Normal. After the sale... forget ANY customer service!!! I filled out the survey for the Carson store with somewhat negative comments and had the sales manager come to me in the parking lot and ask me never to do that again. If I had any problems with the service, come straight to him. I asked if that practice somewhat circumvented the whole "survey statistics" model, and he said he just wanted nothing but positive feedback from the surveys. Now I understand why they tout 95% customer satisfaction!!! LOL I bought a new Can Am paying $17,000. I thought that might have bought some customer service but I was wrong. I bought it in Carson and have had such HORRIBLE customer service with the parts and service area that I had to make an appointment for the Reno store. They told me that "yeah, we're the same owner but we run as completely independent stores and do not communicate well with each other"! This is the tip of the iceberg with these guys. I don't have the time or the patience to list everything. I wouldn't buy a SKATEBOARD from this business. read more

Mike in Reno and Jim, Ben and Kathy in Carson were awesome to deal with. I recently purchased a new Yamaha FJR1300 and the process was smooth and painless. The bike was built on time and the briefing on it was thorough. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommend either the Carson or Reno shop. For Stand-up jet ski service I would recommend this service department. I have a used ski that I bought a couple of summers ago and it was running sluggish and stalling out from time to time. I ran into issue during my carb rebuild and decided to take it in. Ben Wilhelm is the service manager and took a lot of extra care to diagnose any possible issues. Being a stand-up owner himself he knew potential problems and tweaked here and there and now the ski runs like a champ. No remaining issues. His service was professional and timely. I appreciated the time he took to talk to me about my ski and his own interest in stand-up skis. Thanks for the excellent service. read more

I bought a used bike from Michaels. Got a good deal and was treated well from sales and service. The service department gave me a orientation of the bike before I left. So I get home and my kid rides it over the weekend and it runs poor. I went down on Tuesday and discussed my concerns with the bike explaining what oil/fuel ratio I was running and how it was running poor. Ben the service manager was awesome! They made an appointment and I dropped it off so they could see what was up. The carb was out of adjustment and the plug was fouled. They repaired all concerns adjusted carb and went the extra mile. Going the extra mile they adjusted up the chain adjusted the suspension and discussed the repairs. All repairs and adjustments were free of charge because they wanted to assure we received a good running bike. This proves that people should buy local and build relationships. Great customer service and that's why Michaels cycles has been in business in carson city for many years read more

I paid $120 to give me estimates on what my bike would need to fix it. They gave me an estimate, and I passed, saying, "I'll just pick up the bike." They said come and get it. I drove down from Tahoe and was given the bike. The engine was apart (they took the head off to do the estimate) and I asked them to put the bike in the same condition as it was when I brought it in. They said, "No, you passed on the valve adjustment, so we just stopped the work...so we won't put the engine back together." This was absurd, so I went the next step up, and this guy said the same thing. So I went to who I think is the manager, who agreed that they should have put the engine back the way it was when they received it. I may be wrong, but personally I got the impression from the beginning that they were not trying to merely solve my problem, but to add procedures and costs to my bike, knowing I would not come and get it. They were wrong, as I don't deal with people I don't trust. So, not a good experience. read more

I am so tired of dealing with them. All of them. I asked to change all four shocks and install heavy Duty springs in the rear of my '07 Polaris. I brought it in initially 2/22/14. I picked it up 4/17/14. 6-7 weeks??? really! only to find they didn't tighten the top bolts of the front shocks. Amazing. I took it on my desert run finally only to find out the shocks install was incorrect. I dropped it off again. Today is 6/25/14. No calls with updates. I just left the shop with no answers after wasting another 1.5 hours in the service department trying to get an answer. I truly got so fed up I just wrote a note on their yellow sticky note pad with their black sharpie that I'm coming back Thursday to pick it up fixed or not. 4 months for shocks. good thing I didn't ask them to install new tires too. But really, all along the way it was absolutely clear this company is horribly run. I vowed to never take my toys to them years ago. But I heard early this year they cleaned house by firing 4-5 guys. Bottom line: No change DO NOT even think about going there!!! read more

I have had a very poor experience with the parts department. They special ordered the wrong part because the parts employee could not properly read the schematic. When I returned to correct their mistake they tried to say that it was my fault eventhough I had brought the part into the store and correctly identified it on the schematic. I asked for the parts manager and he was very abusive. I requested a refund and said that "I will never do business here again." The parts manager ran my credit card and threw it at me followed by throwing the receipt. The parts manager then said that I had to sign the receipt. I said "if I have to sign the receipt, why did you throw it across the counter and onto the floor?" At that point I said to the parts manager "you are very unprofessional." He replied get the f--k out of the store. I have been told by friends that this is a very bad store and they are correct. The staff is very abusive and incompetent and there is no reason to ever do business here as it is just too easy to correctly order from Rocky Mountain MC or Motosport.com and save 33% in the process and receive the ordered parts more quickly. read more

i ride an 06 klr and was on my way from salt lake to san fran last week when i popped my chain off, ripped up my sprocket, and chewed through the wires that run into the stator. was by berlin-ichthyasaur state park, did a quick field-repair (zip ties and a stick!) so i could limp to carson city. took me till i blew the chain completely to figure out that you DO need those guides on the swing arm to keep the chain and the tire from getting too close. got AAA to take me to mikes, had a tire for me and a chain ($220, i think). i sat down in their parking lot to try to mount up the new parts, and before i got the back wheel off a guy named terry came out and offered to let me wheel the bike around back where they (AFTER HOURS) mounted my wheel on the rim. turned out i single human being cannot mount an anakee by hand. took three guys and a press, but they did get it on their and i was back on the road in less than two hours after i broke down (counting the tow). didn't even charge me the $75 to mount, gave me some pointers on maintenance and were cracking jokes while i waited. i read some of the other reviews up here, and my experience was most like the other guy on a dual sport. i've never had an interaction like this at a bike shop anywhere in the country. so rad. the guys writing negative reviews about mean financing guys and stupid fees, yeah i get it. that used to piss me off too, but sometimes i think that just comes with the territory. guys in bike shops are guys in bike shops. i don't go in there looking for hugs and dollar off shipping. i go in there for guys that know what it's like to get stuck with a problem you can't fix on your own, and guys that can get you riding again asap. sure the customer is always right, but sometimes the customer is also a clown. yeah, sure moto-techs can be a little cocky (if that is what some of the negative reviewers are responding too) but whatever. they do (or should) know more than the joes that walk in there, and they should be allowed to tell you so. as far as other shops (in utah, and back east) these guys are way mellow. read more
