This is the Michaels closest to my house. Do I like Michaels? Honestly...? Yeah, it's A-OK, a lot of the craft supplies are kind of crappy and not very cool. Are the employees helpful? No. Are they even half friendly? Eh, not really. Case in point: I nearly always come in with the 40% off coupon in the flyer (people, ALWAYS come with the coupon!), but I have forgotten it at home on the rare occasion. On a crazy day of running errands, I found myself here with no friggin' coupon. Remembering the time I needed the coupon once at another Michaels location and just given one at customer service when I asked, I asked this store's customer service if they had any extra coupons. Whoever was behind the counter just raised an eyebrow at me and said "Uh, yeah, no we don't do that'. Well, whatever then. So I just left and came back the next day with that stupid scrap of paper and saved the $20. Assholes. I hate to admit it, but I spend over $100 a month in crafting supplies. I spend only a small percentage of that at this store because half of the time I leave I have a bad taste in my mouth. But in a pinch and I need adhesive or a hole punch, I'll make a run... but only if I have a damn coupon :). read more

Oh Michaels, you are no Hobby Lobby...but I still love you. I have always been a pretty crafty person and I admit that I can get stuck for hours in hobby shops trying to ascertain which is the perfect shade of blue for my next painting. I have always been an avid Hobby Lobby shopper as their selection is MUCH more extensive and their prices are lower. However, considering there is like only one freaking Hobby Lobby in Dallas...it's not really an option for me. Michael's selection is a little limited, but they do have fantastic sales throughout the year. They often run a promo where you can receive 60% off your total framing order, which is awesome considering it is quite pricey to have artwork or pictures professionally framed. During the holidays they also run great sales on Christmas decorating products. Just beware of the ridiculous crowds. Tricia S. and I came here the other day since we were both in the holiday decorating spirit. Since I spend much of the winter break in San Antonio, I don't mess with getting a full size tree. At Michaels I was able to buy a 12" tree and all the decorations (excluding lights) for under $15! The crowds were ridiculous though and at a few points I felt extremely claustrophobic. During normal seasonal times though Michaels is typically not as crowded and things are fairly easy to find throughout the store. read more

I'm kind of the arts and crafts type of person and I bet it might be hard to believe since I'm a guy, but I like working with my hands. ;-) I can't leave here without buying at least something for my hobbies. My recent visit here consisted of me looking for some foliage for my head wreath. While walking around this store I was contemplating if I should actually start oil painting or not. Hope you're happy Michaels....your just lost a customer for LIFE. I will now devote the next several hours to writing scathing reviews of your horrible service to anyone and everywhere. I only wish I could give negative ratings. We came in to buy foam board...found three pieces of the correct size in an end cap. First of all, no barcode at all on any of the three pieces. They were $7.99 each. My partner and I each need one so we bought two. Each of us had a coupon for $50% off a single item. I have read this coupon at least three times...nothing pertaining to my purchase should have prohibited my use. I got my piece for 50% off as expected since...my partner however did not. The cashier and a "manager" that had been called over to handle us told him it was considered "custom framing" and that he coupon did not apply. IT IS A PIECE OF STOCK WHITE FOAM BOARD OFF THE RACK! Even if it was custom framing (which was clearly not) the coupon said nothing about no discount for custom framing. When questioned and had showed him the receipt, he said "well you got a good price on the one." I said you're going to jeopardize a customer for life over two or three dollars and he just ignored the comment and basically dismissed us. I am PISSED and hope none of your support this location. I'm not crafty at all, but with the help of Michael's I was able to sparkle up my inappropriate Yelp valentine cards. They had a bunch of V-day themed stuff out, so that really helped. Michaels has a ton of stuff for crafts, holiday decorating, gift wrapping, and all sorts of other fun, miscellaneous items. But if you want a pleasant experience, might be best to avoid customer service and just explore on your own. I recently stopped by during my lunch hour at work to pick up some ribbons. I was going to hunt down the ribbons on my own but, after being greeted by an employee, decided to ask her for guidance. I've never seen a customer-service person so flustered and frightened by a simple question... or so inarticulate in directing a customer to the proper area. I've never seen anything like this. I seriously didn't know whether to laugh or get annoyed. As I made my way through the store, I wondered how anyone like that even survives a job interview. I don't know...maybe Michaels hires anyone who walks in the door during the holiday season. read more

I go to this Michel's all the time but after today I doubt I'll ever go back to this location due to the sheer awkward tension. My girlfriend and I came into the store to each buy one item. I got a single refill of white watercolor paint. The cashier was polite and short and my brief encounter was mundane and normal, as usual. My girlfriend goes to the next available register as I am paying to buy some paint markers. The cashier, Lisa, proceeds to check her out as I stand next to her. She asks if my girlfriend is a rewards member, she said no. Lisa then asked my girlfriend for her email. When my girlfriend told her she was not a rewards member once again, Lisa told her she was signing her up. My girlfriend once again told her it wasn't necessary and she didn't want to sign up or give Lisa her email. **Lisa then proceeded to sell the Michael's Reward Program to my girlfriend like it was a pyramid scheme and if she didn't make that sale her family would be sent to the gulag.** Not wanting to come off like an agro-boyfriend, I stood there uncomfortably fidgeting with my receipt staring at this woman while she went on a journey about saving money for what seemed like an eternity. My girlfriend ended up having to tell this woman no 4 times before Lisa finally took her payment, THEN proceeded to give my girlfriend (who was too polite and nervous to be stern with this woman who was at least two times her age) a lecture on how saving money will help her down the road and she should really consider Michael's Reward Program. TL;DR: The cashier named Lisa made me and my girlfriend extremely uncomfortable when she wouldn't stop trying to sell us the rewards program and wouldn't let us pay and leave until we told her no 4 times. read more

Not too happy with Michaels. Got here to pick up my framing which was supposed to be ready on three days ago. "Oh didn't they call you? He asks. "Uh, no" says me. Well now they say they can't cut a mat the size I paid for and spent 30 minutes plannung with the OTHER framer. But....he can make it wider if I wait 10 minutes. 10 minutes later he asks, "do we have the artwork? I can't find it". "Uh yes" I say. 30 more minutes still waiting. The staff at this location has always been courteous. I received excellent customer service in the framing department by a woman that helped me & my family put together a beautiful shadow box in a pinch for my aunt's funeral. The customers on the other hand are terrible.......pretentious, and will cut you off in the parking lot. read more

If you know EXACTLY what you are looking for and EXACTLY where they shelve it here, you will have no problems. However, if you are looking for a specific something--especially in the arts department--most of the staff look at you like you have 3 heads. They seem to have expertise in most other areas (framing, crafts, etc) but if you are looking for art supplies, they don't seem to really know the products they sell and have no one on the staff that really knows that department. With the lack of dedicated art supply stores around (because of big box stores crushing out competition), it would be nice if they had staff that really knew about the products they sell. read more

Yeesh! Does everyone who works here have a stick up their butt? I asked one of the ladies if they sold lighters, to which she replied, "lighters? what do you mean lighters?". I didn't realize this was such a confusing question! Once I explained that the lighter would be used for lighting a BBQ and not for smoking cigarettes, which I assumed is what she was getting at, she showed me where they were. Geez, I came to buy supplies lady, not get life advice. Also, they are sticklers about the usage date on their coupons. I once tried to use a coupon a day ahead of time, and the cashier just handed the coupon back to me, quite rudely too, saying I had to come back tomorrow. Really?....Really? Sigh...Is it really that important that I come back the next day? Or is it that you hate your job and it makes you happy to see the annoyance in your customers' faces? I've been to a Michael's before lady, and the coupons work, no matter what dates are printed on them. What a magical place. I went in with an oddly sized art print that needed to be framed. Issac (yeah, that's the correct spelling) was an ANGEL and took very good care of my print. He even trimmed it to fit a frame AND helped me put the it in the frame. Did you know you're probably doing it wrong? He was kind, fun, and put together a beautiful piece for me to hang in my home. An average store. It's an American big-box store, so don't expect stellar service. Sometimes when I come here, I find an employee that is just amazing and happy to help, other times employees are like elusive ghosts. Saturday afternoons, while busy, seem to be the best times for hep in the aisles. Lots of items are locked up, even spray on acrylic for some reason. Apparently few people have the keys, so be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to come along. This location is well-organized and always well-stocked. However, their check-out lines are LONG. They seem to have enough people during peak hours, but it's peak hours so the lines are long. When it's not peak hours, they have maybe 1 or 2 cashiers, so the line is still long. read more

I went here to buy some Prismacolors because my old ones mysteriously disappeared. I was shocked to see that they're kept locked in a case. Really? Then, to my surprise, when the employee came to unlock them (took her a good 10 minutes to reply to the buzzer by the case) I discovered that Prisma is not the same quality it used to be when I was in college. For a small pack, I paid about $30. When I got home to use them, I noticed the quality just wasn't the same. I might be better off buying crayola at Walmart. As for the store, I really didn't interact with a lot of employees. Like I said in the previous paragraph, it took the employee a good 10 minutes to respond to my buzzer request. I was about to give up and go hunt for someone, when she finally appeared. The lady who rang me up was OK. Didn't talk much. I don't remember if she greeted me. I might come back, might not. Was not having good luck finding anything I needed and all of a sudden Petra was walking down the isle, gave me eye contact (which doesn't always happen in the retail industry) and asked me if I needed help. YES!!!! I told her my name and what I was looking for. She walked with me down a couple isles but we didn't have any luck so I moved on to the sticker isle. Petra found me in the sticker isle, addressed me by my name and told me she found what I was looking for. YES!!!! She found exactly what I needed. Then I called my friend to let her know to scratch Hobby Lobby and come to Michaels! Petra was great. She made my shopping experience easy and successful. I bought 3 of what she found for me. Customer service here is horrible! Trying to return a Christmas Tree (~200 on sale) the day after it was purchased that has an entire string of lights that doesn't work. Apparently this is a HUGE hassle for Michaels and they don't mind letting me know that their unhappy about (hauling it up three flights of stairs and putting it up only to find it doesn't work was NBD for me). They don't have any in left in the store to replace it but calling to other Michael locations to locate one, is "not their job". I asked to speak to the manager and was shocked to find out "Bonnie" WAS the manger. Apparently customer service isn't a priority for their staff including management. read more

Always a long wait to check out. Always staff milling around in the store and not opening additional registers, but I know this, so when need arises, I still go to the Michael's which is conveniently next to my house. Until today, when after my long wait in line to return a product that I didn't use. And learned about expiring receipts. The same product is still in stock at full price -- the price I paid for it, listed on my receipt, but my receipt was expired. So Michael's gave me about $2.50 for a $6 item. Which is still on sale for $6 in the store. I know it's $3.50, but that it was never an enjoyable experience and that was the last straw. read more

Gone are the days of my childhood when I would spend all of the savings of my allowance on crafting items from Michaels, then spend days creating whatever fancied my imagination. But Michaels still comes through in my book when I need to get a painting framed. I recently decided to take the plunge and get a painting that I'd gotten in Brazil years ago framed so it wouldn't look so rustic on it's wooden stretcher board. The person who took the initial measurements and gave me a price quote was a trained artist who was able to offer me a well-qualified opinion on the aesthetics of matching a frame to the style and my painting. Then he made sure that I got the best price by telling me about the regular specials of the framing department and how to sign up for the email and cell phone notifications. In the end I got my painting framed for 50% off the original price. When I picked up the frame two weeks later (standard time-frame for their work) I saw that there was a promotion for 60% off... not bad at all considering I find that their regular prices are comparable to a store solely devoted to framing. And the quality of work is similar to enough to meet my standards. The only caution I would give is that at this location, the framing department can get quite busy on the weekends, so be sure to be prepared to not always just pop in and out. read more

Stood in line for 35 minutes only to be told I needed to sign in to sheet that was hidden and they would call me. There were 5 people ahead of me. Management obviously needs to be retrained on how to schedule employees. Finally gave up, drove 5 minutes north to Hobby Lobby and they helped me right away. read more

I truly LOVE Michaels. But I always dread going into this store when I need something. Parking is so difficult. Last time I was in, an older (70+ yr) woman was checking me out. She was sweet but she had NO idea what she was doing and couldn't figure out how to scan the coupons from my phone. When I got to my car I had realized that she overcharged me $10. The store is unorganized the products are of poor quality (noticeably worse than Hobby Lobby, which isn't the greatest either), and the employees are... i don't know.
