I have to say that, this Terra Losa location is a store which I have brought my art prints in to have framed several times, and it has consistently blown me away with the amazing level of customer service the provide... Today, I left the adjacent Staples absolutely furious and disgusted with the complete incompetence and degenerate so called service and management (another story, but seriously, horrible). I was concerned that I was not in good frame of mind to conduct business with specific and costly art framing services, but I needed to use my day off to get it done... The framing staff member Kianna, was exemplary. She was extremely courteous and used her expertise to help me with my price consciousness and particular aesthetic interests. She was not condescending in any way and explained very clearly what her processes were and listened to what I was saying regarding my needs, hopes and timelines. She paid attention and came with suggestions and guidance in a way which showed me that she had my interests in mind. If I were to show or share to any service people what I would want and expect in really good customer service, I would playback the experience I had. In fact, I left feeling redeemed because she also clued me into the sale/deal which was within my timeline forthcoming and saved me a huge amount (not even kidding). It is hardly ever which I would go out of my way to share positive review of corporate chain stores, but, as they say, it is people which make the business good bad or in this case great. Full credit to Kianna, her team of coworkers and the management of the Terra Losa Michaels for turning my night from completely disgusted (disgraceful Staples in the same plaza), into very thankful and pleased/satisfied. Oh my wallet hurts every time I enter this store. Michaels has become my go to, not for crafts but home decor. I am a sucker for the by one get one frees and have stocked up over the years than more fancy baskets than is necessary. This Michaels also has a great selection of crafting supplies and you can always use a coupon found online for one regular priced item. The front lady at reception is always so lovely as well and they are now a puralator pick up zone! read more

Crafty people can likely find it at Michaels. I am a fan of their 40% off one item coupons and if you don't have a flyer, you can get the coupon on your phone and show the cashier. The bins with items for $1 or $1.50 near the front of the store are great as I have found some cute notepads and single stamps. There is convenience as it's a one stop shop but the regular prices for items can be high compared to other stores or online. If you are watching your wallet, I would wait for a coupon or sale. It can also get busy but I like how there's just one line now so you don't have to guess line would be quickest. read more

It's a Michael's! Full of crafty goodness! I go in constantly for stickers for various events. I also buy my helium tanks here; and always use a 40 or 50% off coupon for those. I like that you can get the coupons texted to your phone now, by the way. Very handy! If you go mid-week (especially during the day) it's pretty quite. Weekends can be a bit of a line up at the tills. I prefer the lay-out of this West End location better than some of the others... I also like that it is really close to my parents place and I sometimes run into my Mom! They have a great selection of Holiday decor, for every holiday. CUSTOM FRAMING. I got one of those awesome Michael's coupons last week: 50% off, plus another 15% on top of that. Well I grabbed my artwork and headed out the door. At the counter, I examined the pricing chart on the wall, calculating that regular price for my piece at the quality I want would be around $350, and 50% off+ would be a nice price...Mabye $150-$175. When the clerk gets to me she warns me that the prices on the chart are not exactly accurate. Ohhhkay. We look at the size of my piece, frames, etc. Her rough estimate...with the full discount...$350 to $400. Again, that's WITH the discount included. My eyeballs must have been bulging, because the clerk explained that their prices are quite high, and the discount really just brings them into a more reasonable range. I'll have to consult consumer protection literature to remember what that particular tactic is called. For now, let's call it grossly misleading. Everyone knows the Michael's schtick - everything is 30 - 50 percent higher than elsewhere in town, but it's oh so convenient - and there is a ton of variety. I am certain anyone shopping at Michaels regularly waits for the sales and uses their weekly 40% off coupon. That being said, when I need to shop at Michaels, this is the one I am going to. I had become so accustomed to poor customer service at another location in town, that when all of my questions were answered politely and I was engaged in friendly banter at check out - my socks were blown off! This was such a pleasant surprise, I came back twice in one week to find it wasn't a one-off. The service REALLY is that friendly here! read more

I always find it awkward to go to Michael's, because I ultimately end up saying to someone, "Oh, I was just over at Michael's," and they ask, "Don't you guys live together?" No, not Michael J, fiance-face, but Michael's, the craft store. Both are pretty awesome. I've rarely left Michael's (the craft store) disappointed. I'm not even really that crafty, but they have an awesome selection of stamps and stickers and scrapbooking stuff when I need it, plus wedding-y stuff (it's where I found my DIY engagement party invitations), some home decor stuff, and framing. When I went in yesterday, framing was 50% Boo-yah! (Not that I needed anything framed. But if I did, hoo-boy, that's a sweet deal.) They also have a fantastic selection of crafts for kids. There were quite a few staff around organizing aisles and merchandise. It was easy to find someone to ask where I could find the odd assortment of items I needed. They could have opened up another cash register, though. Yesterday, I found sparkly leopard print card stock here. It wasn't even what I was looking for. It's not even relevant to this story. It was just amazing and now I'm thinking we should have a sparkly leopard print themed Yelp party just so I can go buy a bunch of it. read more

I went into Michaels recently with a friend. We had to purchase one thing, buy didn't know where in the store it was, so we went aisle by aisle. Confession: we spent 90 minutes in Michaels. It's an overwhelming store, with variety and knick knacks, and things that make you wonder why you don't have craftier and more creative hobbies. Nearly once an aisle I was examining one item or another and deciding I needed to knit, scrapbook, design cake, have a bridal shower, or just play with the dinosaur toys. A fun fact* about Michaels: 96% of all aisles must contain glitter in some form. Glue, princess tiaras/wands, glitter dust, sparkled letters... You get the picture. It is nearly impossible to leave Michaels without being covered in glitter. The fun part about this craft store is that it isn't purely pipecleaners, glitter, and construction paper. It's bubbles, cake making supplies (even fondant!), framing and art, toys, ribbon, yarn, and anything you could or didn't consider to be crafty. The store had exactly what I needed, and at some decent prices. The staff left a lot to be desired, though. The one woman I tried to ask a question to acted as if I was inconveniencing her. She mocked my question, and I told her to forget it and walked away. I hate having a bad staff experience at places. It really puts a damper on the whole shopping experience and makes me not want to go back there. Plus I didn't get everything I needed because I couldn't find it, no matter how much I looked. Michael's is a wonderful place to shop for those who are into arts and crafts. This massive store has an ample selection of products to get your creative juices flowing. There are arts supplies and scrapbooks, beads and unfinished wood products, yarn and DIY books. At the back of the store, there is a framing section. Here you can order custom made frames or purchase readymade ones. Whether you need a shadow box to display a collection, or want to make a collage out of pictures, and hang it oh so proudly, Michael's selection will suite your needs. Most of the frames sold at Michael's are expensive, but there are frequent sales. I am also extremely fond of Michael's arts supplies section. Canvases, brushes, oil and acrylic paints make me feel inspired. I am sure that professional artists buy their supplies at more specialized stores at higher prices, and that Michael's caters to beginner artists who are just beginning to find their inner voice, and aren't ready spend heaps of money on expensive equipment. read more

When I asked about purchasing supplies at a discount for a workshop I am running through a Christian church, I was told (quite rudely) that only registered teachers and senior citizens can receive discounts. This interfaith workshop is focused on helping us connect in the winter season and is run through a church that feeds many of Edmonton homeless every month. While I walk with a cane and am on AISH, I suppose I am neither an actual teacher nor senior, so bravo on upholding your policies.
