If you're in to arts & crafts you will really enjoy Michaels. The store has pretty much every item you could dream of, for every type of occasion. Things like ribbons, boxes, flowers and glues to name a few. The staff is really helpful and can easily guide you through this huge store. The store is definitely expensive but you will only have to make one stop when shopping.

I am a huge fan of this store with one exception: the prices. I love all the great stuff inside this mega-craft store. You can find anything to do crafts here: artificial flowers, jewelry, glues, boxes, baskets, ribbon etc. I often go to this store when I am looking for something that I can't find at the dollar store, but I usually give up when I see the prices. Just yesterday I was in search of a small pot for a new plant that I bought, and I went here thinking I could find a simple pot here for a good price. I was sure wrong -- They had numerous pots and the least expensive one was $14.99. And that was not a very nice pot. Too bad. Other than the prices, I do enjoy this store. I think it is a great place to find many things.

When I first walked into Comex Hobby, I didn't see anything that was particularly interesting--just…read moresome model kits and not-so-exciting action figures. But then I turned around, and a set of giant boobs, at least giant in a miniature sense, were staring me right in the face. It was Japanese sexism in woman characters at its best. These were action figures of various characters--I think some of them might have been from video games--that were hyper-sexualized and wearing very little clothing. In fact, in some cases the figures wore no clothing, and only their hands covered the places that separate this from being pornographic. But before I go too much on a feminist rant, I did find some other really cool stuff here. Everything in this store is imported from Asia. I found all this awesome Nintendo merchandise like Mario, Yoshi, and Princess keychains, key-lights, and wallets. I wanted to buy so many of these things, and I'm already thinking about Christmas presents for people (and myself!). They even had a little stuffed doll of Domokun--you know that cute, brown character from that popular poster that says, "Every time you masturbate... God kills a kitten - Please, think of the kittens." I really wanted to buy him, to always remind me not to masturbate. Although I ranted a little about the sexist action figures, this place is actually a super cool store--probably the best Asian import store I've been to.

Since I couldn't find it, I asked the sales associate if they had it. He checked with another associate and yes, they had it. They didn't have a dedicated hanger for it and it was behind another product. The packaging looked worn like it had been there for a year, or years. The last time I went, I bought a model paint rack for my husband as a gift. I asked the associate where it was as I thought this would save time than me trying to find it. They only had one left and the box was dented it but it had plastic covering it. The words on the box were written in Japanese but I hoped it wouldn't require much assembly. There always seems to be enough staff available to ask for help, if needed. The prices seem a little high but being in the mall, I would expect a bit of a mark up. I don't think the return policy is great, but then again, they wouldn't want people opening products or using them and then bringing them back. Decent store for those who like models and needs supplies, board games, and anime products.

They have a great selection of games: trading cards, board games, and paintables. And gaming accessories. Building is not wheelchair accessible. The gaming area is upstairs and the sales floor is cramped. I found the customer service to be just.. not helpful? They weren't rude but they certainly under explained every step of the process. I have shopped here twice and and the same odd customer service experience both times. On one visit, I traded one 1 Magic the Gathering card for in-store credit and was asked if I had done an online trade-in order. Their website does not mention that trade-ins should be done online prior to visiting the store so while at the store, I placed an online trade-in via their website and traded in the 1 card. The associate took the card to the back to the card appraiser. The appraiser came back out a few minutes later with another card for another customer and gave the associate at the till the thumbs up on my trade-in. I had requested an in-store credit, so was expecting a gift card or something physical to represent that. So the associate and the till and I just stared at each other for the most awkward 20 seconds of my life until I asked how I get my in-store credit and he finally explained to me that the credit goes onto my email on file. Ah! Thank you for telling me! A few days later I receive an email asking about my trade-in because my sell list didn't match their records. It was cleared up no problem with a few emails back and forth, but makes for another awkward customer service experience. I have placed 2 online orders, both with errors. The first was a couple dollars difference and the second was less than one dollar difference. Not a huge deal but annoying since I didn't notice until I was home. I will double check any future orders while in store.

The card value also seems great, I bought a "heavily played" card for a heavily played price and I almost feel bad, because the condition of the card seems way better than heavily played. I came across one of their boxing day flyers, and they had the model of saw I was looking for at an amazing price, so I went in. The store stocks a ton of quality power tools, from hand-held sanders, to drill presses, different kinds of saws, and things I didn't recognize at all. The staff were all very friendly, and when I explained I wasn't experienced at all, they explained a number of things. I also liked that they steered me away from a higher model of saw because it would be more than I needed (it's a saw that would be good for 8+ hours of use a day, not 2 hours a week). I'd definitely recommend buying tools here over Home Depot or Rona; these guys specialize in these things, and their knowledge will easily surpass what someone in Home Depot has.

Dismissive and arrogant and I'm happy with the product I guess, but for spending as much as I Did, nah, I'm going to go somewhere else from now on. It ruined all my excitement to spend as much as I did to only leave like I was looked down on. Sad really. I'm looking at a budget of maybe 30-50k for tools in the coming years and if you can't at least be positive and professional, I'll just order it online and save myself the hassle and attitude. Shame really. Given the lack of tools on display, I was assuming they needed more customers. Go somewhere else if you want basic respect. In terms of advanced expertise in a variety of higher end tools, definitely look elsewhere. Fucking shame too. I was hoping for a great community. Sorry, I don't want to be around proud to be the Alberta arrogant stupid. Machinist guy with one thumb was that stores saving grace. He's the only reason I didn't go off. Just avoid this place. If you're spending thousands...like seriously...you deserve basic respect. And I'm done. Dismissive fucks.
