I give this place two stars for its non-framing stuff but just one for its frame shop. The store generally is okay, although overly crowded. They need to either find a bigger space or eliminate some of the crap they carry, because it's so jam-packed with stuff that it's difficult to walk through the aisles. It's particularly bad when they're restocking (which is often): boxes everywhere, entire shelves of merchandise blocked. Poor management. If there was a Hobby Lobby within 10 miles, I'd never darken the door of this place. As it is, I prefer to go to AC Moore with its wider aisles and generally more pleasant atmosphere, but Michael's does carry a few things AC Moore doesn't. The frame shop: Avoid at all costs. Certainly don't be taken in by the much-touted "discount" on custom framing. Hint: It's ALWAYS on discount. They just mark the "regular" price up to a laughable level so the discount price is the regular price. (Would *anybody* pay $600 to have a diploma framed at Michaels? Didn't think so.) The people who work in the framing area are both incompetent and hard to deal with. They won't let you just play around with different sample mats and frames because you're not allowed to get the mats out of order (!). And the sample frames are all on the wall behind the counter. So they insist on handling all the samples for you, while making unhelpful suggestions and clumsily trying to upsell. (Three mats on one piece? Yeah, no thanks.) I've taken two pieces there. On the last one they completely screwed up the cropping so the mat covers a good inch and a half more of the picture than it's supposed to. The picture is of a fish, and the tail is cut off. Recently remodeled, this location has a great selection for all your crafting needs. I prefer the fake silk plants here to the ones at AC Moore down in Baileys. They have a lot more selection and they're much prettier/real looking. They've recently expanded their jewelry section and its really great. TONS of beads to choose from at great prices! Books to show you samples and how to make jewelry. I can spend hours hemming and hawing over everything. Of course they have other items to peruse, but that's what I spend most of MY time on. read more

The only reason I'm giving Michaels two vice one/no stars is due to the excellent service rendered by Abdul in the custom framing department. He was patient in showing me more affordable framing and matting options and even when I found the final discounted price still much more than I was willing to pay, he took the time advise me on frame measurements, and show me pre-made frame and matte options. Excellent service! Other staff, particularly check-out, are apathetic. I just purchased $80 worth of merchandise today including two large pre-made frames. I'd brought my Michaels circular with the coupon with me, but left it at custom framing - the check out girl offered to deduct 50% off an item at check out...when I checked my receipt later it turned out she decided to discount the $8 item. I saved a grand total of $4.00. Ridiculous! Avoid the Michaels check out girl who wears the head scarf. She's already mentally checked out of her customer service job as well. Management should talk to her about her customer service attitude as well. read more

Eh, this Michael's is okay. There is always parking in the parking lot. They could work on customer service and a little better organization within the store. Make sure you use a coupon here, they always send one in the mail, email, or check your local newspaper. This store is very affordable for arts and craft supplies. read more

Went to this store to pick up some picture frames and had an unpleasant experience. The store itself is average (relatively cleanly, organized, etc.) however the staff was very unhelpful and rather rude. The store also did not have bags big enough to fit the 20 inch frames that we bought. If you have another option, I would avoid this store. read more

Don't use this frame shop. Unfortunately I have used them twice. The first time I had them mat and frame something. They called me two times after I place the order in person to ask me which mat and frame I had selected since they kept losing the paperwork. The second time I purchased a frame off the shelf in Michael's, handed it to a frame shop employee, and asked him to measure a mat to fit inside the frame. He did so and I picked it up 2 weeks later. I did not actually use it for a month, at which time I discovered the mat was at least 1/4 inch too big on all sides to stand any chance of fitting inside the frame. I was annoyed, but did not feel like driving all the way out there for them to place another order, have me wait 2 more weeks, and then drive back another time to pick it up. It's really not that convenient. Instead I called the store and the corporate customer service department, neither of whom seem to care that their staff can't measure. You would think that a job requirement for this line of work is the ability to measure stuff and use a ruler. read more

This Michaels has ample parking and is conveniently located. The several times I went, I was immediately tended to at the register and didn't have any issues with long lines/wait times like other reviewers have pointed out. They had everything I was looking for each time for my projects; my only complaint was that it was hard to find staff around the place to help me find specific products I couldn't find right away. read more

I'm obviously not expecting much from a discount craft supply store. But after driving 30 minutes here from DC to purchase items for my Halloween costume, I come home to discover one of them isn't in the bag (but I was charged on the receipt). I called the store the explain what happened and talked to 3 different people, each ruder than the last. I got a "I don't know what to tell you" response from each one. You can come back, and we'll hold the t-shirt for you. That's it. I'll give you your money back OR the t-shirt. Not even both. Horrible customer service. read more

JoAnn Fabrics and Home Depot are right there so there is almost no need for a Michaels... In other words there are few products that you could buy there instead of just going next door.... sooo.. Michaels needs to step it up. The store is disorganized, you can't get help. Almost no one knows anything about the products. I know the young people will work as inexpensive cashiers but it would be really nice to have someone there who is a sorta subject matter expert on something. The manager helped me, and he was way too busy exccept to give me about 38 seconds of his time, but he was the only one there that knew anything, as all the other employees explained to me!! read more

Do not get your pictures framed here, they will rip you off. I took in a custom hand painted picture and the estimates they were quoting me were more than a hundred dollars. So I ended up getting matting only, which they charged me $50. When I went to pick it up, it wasn't even straight! Thanks for bamboozling me, Michael's custom frames. read more

Today I went to Michaels at Seven Corners, Falls Church, VA. It was around 4 pm. I grabbed what I needed and went to pay. I stood on a line in front of the cashier's area waiting for my turn. It is always a fun visit at Michaels and as some may know, it's also easy to get carried away with purchases! I had purchased an excessive amount of items which I did not use and still had the receipts to return. I also wanted to exchange some letters to use for the incomplete project which I'm working on. I was assisted by Maggie at the register who was very kind, pleasant and welcoming! She's very pretty and personable. Since I was making a return the supervisor's code was needed which Loyda, the busy manager kindly provided. Loyda and Maggie work as a very good team! I also noticed how Loyda took it upon herself to keep the front of the store organized, putting carts back and still going to the register to help customers and completing many tasks at once. Maggie also was very patient with my returns and I could not leave without mentioning how well they worked together. They deserve to be recognized by the company for their professionalism and personable personas! Much love ! read more

When the crafty mood strikes and like me, $10-20 per skein of yarn at the oh-so-cute yarn shop down the street just won't fit the budget, a trip to Michael's does the trick. I usually love Michael's and always wish there was one (or something like it) closer to the District, but alas, when in such a mood, the trek out to NoVa seems well worth it. I've been to this particular store on a number of occasions and have never been all that impressed. They have on OK selection of just about everything you need, but the staff just isn't helpful; every time I go and ask where something is, I am pointed to the wrong area of the store and have to do exactly what I hoped not to... wander in circles until I find it myself. Also, how is it that the big rolly stock ladder is in the way of EXACTLY what I want, and suddenly I can't find a single associate to help me move it (those suckers are HEAVY and get stuck on the ends of the aisles)?? *sigh* read more

At this Seven Corners location Michaels I could not find scale models or Testors model paints... and when I asked for a can of airbrush propellant that I needed I was told it was behind the counter at the front of the store (to keep it away from drug addicts?). So I wait on a long checkout line, only to find that they don't "think" that they have any inventory (they would not bother to perform an inventory check). Maybe it's a problem with Seven Corners in general, which was a showcase shopping destination in the 1950s and has been on a long, long downward slide. But the place possesses the sad air of a run-down amusement park that might house a deranged clown from a horror movie, or a place where a lonely old lady who owns twenty cats might buy scrapbooking materials to make memento book that no-one will look at and will be swept out with every other possession when the mailman eventually smells her corpse. In my mind I heard "Eleanor Rigby" while I was in there. So even as Michaels goes, this is a rinky-dink Michaels. read more

After I wrote this review - and complained to Michaels Corporate - I received a polite apology from the local store management, and an offer of a generous discount - too good to pass up - if I would give Michaels another chance. I appreciated this; even more importantly, the manager seemed sincerely concerned with customer service. This is my first ever review anywhere on website ever. So, you can tell how much I was being compelled to write this review. I'm a hobby baker and shop a lot at Michael's. I have a huge complain about the attitudes of the staff here. Totally non- friendly, utterly rude and looks at you with strange eyes. I specifically am writing this review for Linda and the supervisor, who was working at or around 1pm on 7/14/15 I don't know her name. Linda, is the most unprofessional and rudest customer representative I have ever encountered in any of the stores. I somehow been to this location a lot lately and this lady and her supervisor make me feel disgusted and hesitant to go there because of their grumpy non smiling faces. Oh especially when it comes to apply coupons she behaves and looks at you as if This is the most forbid able thing you're doing. If this is the case why do I get emails from Michael and asked about my email every time I shop. Anytime I try to ask any questions from especially these two ladies, they look here and there, no eye contact and show how unprofessional and non interested they're. I don't understand if these people have this much issues dealing with people, they shouldn't be upfront in the stores and defaming their stores names. I would like the corporate and management of this store to take action about it so that we can come to this store happily and enjoy our shopping needs. read more

After doing a substantial amount of shopping at Michaels for our wedding planning, we discovered their horrible return policy. Check your receipt - some items - even if returned the very same day - are not eligible for a full refund!! So if you paid $5 for something, it may only be eligible for a $4 refund even with your receipt. Then if your receipt is "expired", your item can only be returned for even less. I discussed this policy with the manager who told me there was nothing she could do. This ridiculous policy, has just lost them 2 customers. I will never shop there again! read more

Just went there Saturday (10/26) and the associates were very clear and helpful, working with us to get the best frame color and type, as well as stating our order back numerous times. They also reiterated our contact information and when the order would be ready so there could be no mix-ups in communication. read more

Do NOT get any framing done here. Even with the 50% discount the framing is over priced and not worth the quality of work done. I took two different photos here and both times I had to sent the frame back due to quality (there was literally lint and string in the frame which was not a part of the picture). The framing was also not centered properly and I had to argue with the manager about it. All in all it was not a pleasant experience. read more
