I love going to Michael's to get my craft on and I appreciate that they give a discount to those of us in the education field. I recently got a couple items to decorate for the seasons, as well as some frames and some pillows. My only grip would be the staff. It's often hard to find someone to assist you and even upfront at the checkout they ignore you because they expect you to do self-checkout. I had two large pillows and the bags at self-checkout are small and not one of the three staff members up front paid any attention to the customers checking out because they were way too busy, talking amongst themselves,. I had to go over to them and politely interrupt the chit chat to ask if I could get a larger bag to put my pillows in. While this isn't the end of the world the fact that there's three of them just standing there talking away in their little group and not paying any attention to the customers kind of really sucks lol. read more

No one offered us help and we were rushed by the employees cause supposedly they were closing early but no signs were put up to let anyone know. The 2 stars are for the classes--just awful, e.g., instructor late for class, instructor not prepared (had to read instructions for the project), not enough supplies for the whole class, allowed too many people to sign up (were told we only had 15 minutes more, even though it was to be a 2 hr. class, because others were waiting to join in). I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this Michaels, but I also don't avoid it. Especially since the checkout lines were streamlined a while back, making the process of getting to the register much more orderly. Pretty standard Michaels store - seasonal items in the front and center, baking supplies and jewlery on either side at the front, painting/drawing/scrapbook items in the middle, framing and yarn in the back. Definitely come with a 40 percent off coupon from their email subscription. There's also always something on sale, especially related to holiday items. I find the stock and inventory of general craft items to be superior here than the JoAnns down in the same strip mall. Also this store is more tidy and tends to have more employees who are happy to help find what you're looking for. read more

The store was clean and well maintained but not adequately staffed. With 5-6 people in line and one cashier and register open, I turned to the one staff member who was restocking merchandise nearby and asked her to open a second register to alleviate the line. She immediately said she was about to, but I doubt it. Ugh their curbside pickup is the absolute worst that I've ever seen. For some reason, I always have to spell my name 100 times and they can never find my order until at least 20 minutes has gone by. This review is based on my most recent experience. Usually, this would get 3 stars at least. Michaels - please do a much better job at staffing during the holiday season. I was here last week and the line was around and up the entire side of the store and there was only 2 people at the registers. I waited for probably 35 minutes and I only ran in to grab one item!!! I talked to the cashier and she was really friendly but she admitted that this was the case constantly and they're always short staffers on the registers! Other than the line situation, the store is OK. The selection is decent though sometimes unorganized. It's always off putting when I see things scattered in random places and the asiles have a random assortment of stuff rather than what is suppose to be there. read more

Micheal's "arts and crafts" should really just be called "crafts" and even then the selection seems pretty lackluster. I go here (if I have to) for art supplies... namely sketch pads and sometimes inks or various writing instruments. They're pricey and have a very limited selection. I wish there were a Blick somewhere in the area... but alas. And why oh why would all of these reviewers ever use this place for framing?? There are so many family run framing shops in the area. DO NOT COME HERE for framing needs. I can almost guarantee you that (1) they will mess it up, (2) they will make little effort to correct their mess-up in a timely manner, and will be unprofessional in the process, (3) if you ask for a mgr, they brush you off and make promises then never follow through on them, and (4) it will take over 30 days to get it completed. My gf and I came here for a simple poster framing to give as a gift. They said it would take about a week... it took 2 weeks. We came to pick it up and the matting was clearly cut wrong, exposed white edges of the poster all around... and there was also a hair in the middle of it behind the glass. clearly nobody took a 2nd look at this before they called me to drive all the way there. They said they would re-do it... and it would be another 10 days. Now, the gift event was 3 days away and I called the manager AND michaels corporate to ask for an expedite since it has taken so long. But nobody would listen, just said they would have another manager call me TOMORROW. No dice... they couldn't have cared less. 5 days later i get the call... manager says he's sorry and will deliver it to me. ok not bad... though it's too late, at least i don't have to drive to store. He said he will call me tomorrow to tell me when to expect it. 5 days pass, no call. Today i get the call the frame is ready (30 days after dropoff). Guy on phone says can come PICK IT UP. I said it's supposed to be delivered, and the guy literally laughed over the phone... "we don't do that." Sorry, manager isn't around to talk to you either. I guess i'm picking it up. And never, ever coming into this terrible store again. This many strikes on the same order (a very expensive order, might i add) and they are done. Go to AC Moore. I should have. Decently sized, relatively well-kept (though occasionally quite messy), and friendly staff. Hobby Lobby this ain't, but it's definitely a good step for all your home crafting needs. IF you know what you want & where it is located in this store, IF the price of the item is marked prominently & the cashier is trained enough to charge you the correct price AND doesn't foul up the transaction then take your chances & go to this store. Otherwise hit the Vienna store, OR Hobby Lobby. This Michael's has been a real looser since Michael's bought out A.C.Moore at Christmas 2 years ago now. The employees are horrible need a firm attitude adjustment by upper management in customer relations 3x in the last month this bunch has given me a ration of garbage EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE BEEN IN THE STORE. The oriental young man has been getting further and further removed from reality & only seems capable of paying attention to the phone receiver in his ear yet when you call him, from an outside line, his Mike & headset crackle so badly he suddenly can't hear you & you can't hear him. He knows how to game Michael's system well. He avoids helping his obviously poorly trained cashiers & will yack with his customers while others wait for his eventual attention. What is the point of having "daily deal" coupons that are almost never valid in the store?! Coupons are good for originally priced items, but more than half the store is almost always on sale (for less than the coupon). I had a second coupon for 15% off wall frames...proceeded to pick up a collage wall frame and have the cashier and manager tell me that this somehow was NOT a wall frame! "It's wall art....". I quit. Unknowledgeable staff is difficult to deal with when using coupons. They certainly don't have a customer is always right perspective. I did receive a gift of having my diploma framed, done at Michaels, and it turned out well in an attractive and reasonably priced frame. Absolutely Awful!!!! I could not believe it. I searched online for a Michael's near me (turns out 10 miles but ok) and came up with this one. I should have known something was wrong when I got there and found no one who knew anything. I finally located my photo album (by myself) and began the process of trying to figure out things. First of all the album says that it has 40 pages but upon counting I found that it only had 30, a couple of them had 28 or 29, so I felt lucky to grab one with 30. I asked about this discrepency and I was told that it was a misprint on the label. Ok fine, but can I have a free pack of ten refill pages? No. Alright, that's fine. I looked around for the refill pages and found that they were only 4$ each so ok. I bought 2 packs. I got all the way home 40 minutes later to learn 1) this album can not even be refilled and 2) they knew this. Now I have 20 worthless refill pages. What's even worse they want to only take a return for store credit because both the album and refills have been opened. Of course they were! I had to open them to find out that you lied about being able to refill them. Now here's the big kicker, if I only take back the refill pages I'll have an 8$ store credit and I will have used at least 2 gallons of gas to get there and back home (about 8$) read more

When a discount is not really a discount? Armed with 60% off custom-framing coupon, I decided to have signed print, not of great value, framed. Clerk was knowledgable and suggested styles and frames, but, in hindsight, I was clearly steered in the direction of the most expensive materials, resulting in overkill for this simple poster--three mats, masterpiece glass, best-quality frame. Then there's the price tag: for piece measuring 24" x 18," the cost came to $230 + tax; this implies a non-discounted price of $575! Now, who would pay that? No one, so it seems Michael's discounted price is closer to market price and, indeed, Googling Michael's discounting policy reveals that it has been under scrutiny in state of New York. So, buyer beware, why not, at the least, seek competitive quote from a mom-and-pop framer, where you a). may get better price b). and I'd wager better service and selection. Overall an average Michaels store. this store tries to cram the same amount of stuff of a bigger store into a much smaller square space, leaving aisles narrow and piled high. But parking is easy, the check out lines go quickly enough, and right off 50 for easy access. read more

Michaels is always crowded, the cashiers are too slow and no one seems to know anything at all about what they're selling. Often, when I have a question, I'm passed around from employee to employee without anyone being able to help me. Other customers seem to constantly trash the store without anyone picking it up, and I've been there and seen mold growing in all of their store displays that had water in them. Nasty. There is one girl I like, who's there most of the time. She's always been cheerful and willing to help me with any questions I had, and knows where everything is and what it does. She seems to be one of two people in that store willing to take a passing interest in customers. Except for her, it's been hard to get good customer service. read more

Full of all the delightful and distracting things all Michael's have! The store appears to be older and is a little cluttered. I took a beginner's crochet class here. The teacher was very nice but they were not organized with their sign up system and the class was 30min less then what my registration said. If you take a class here make sure you keep all your receipts in case they mess up with your registration. read more

This Michael's isn't very close to me, so I'll usually go to AC Moore and reserve trips to Michael's for when AC Moore just doesn't have what I need. It's not in a terrible location, and there is usually ample parking. I just never feel like there are enough people manning the registers everytime I come in. read more

Cheap frames and helpful staff helps me overlook the overwhelming amount of cheap crap stuffed into the tight aisles here. Store is kinda dirty, but that is to be expected coming from a crafts store. Christmas comes very, very early here, but thankfully that section is located in a very specific, although hard to miss, area of the store. Best part about Michael's is the staff. In general, they know their stuff and are friendly. Doubly so for the frame shop, who do perfectly acceptable work for every day framing. Framing Review: I ordered 3 20x30 prints off of Etsy and took them to Michael's to be professionally framed. I dropped them off and the lady behind the counter was very helpful in assisting me in choosing a frame. We then inspected the prints and agreed there were no marks/blemishes on the prints. She rang me up and my total was about $500 which I paid for upfront. The lady told me that it will take two weeks and they will call me when my prints were done. Two weeks later I go back to pick up my prints and upon inspected them I noticed a 2 inch bend in one of the prints. The lady behind the counter agreed that wasn't there when I brought them in and had the manager come look at it. The manager told me that they have a machine that will press the print and remove the blemish in the print and I could come back in 2 days to pick up the final product. Two days later I hadn't heard from anyone. They call me a week after I had come in a requested the print be fixed. The manager told me that not only was my print not ready but they RUINED the print trying to remove the bend that they made in it. So now i have 2 framed of a 3 set and 1 ruined print. The manager told me that I could reorder the print and they will reimburse me for it. Yes, this is fine and I appreciate it but now this is 3 weeks since I dropped the prints off, by the time I place an order for the prints and they get shipped to me and drop them off at Michael's and they reframe the 1 ruined print it will be OVER two months, and mind you I have ALREADY paid $500. The manager never offered to provide a discount on top of the $500 for ruining my prints and causing a HUGE delay. They only offered to reimburse me for the order of the second set of prints which I think is pretty ridiculous. Most managers would have been SUPER apologetic and offered a large discount in addition to the reimbursement of the second set of prints since it was their fault that they first bent my print and then completely ruined it. I am so unhappy with this service especially considering the price. If I wanted amateur service I would have just done the job myself. Luckily my prints were from Etsy so I was able to reorder them easily to replace the ones that Michael's ruined. If you have a unique/special/one of a kind print that you cannot easily reorder if it gets messed up I would HIGHLY recommend choosing another place. I don't think I will ever get prints professionally done again because even if you pay the price you aren't guaranteed a quality job at Michael's. read more

I have to say, the customer service quotient in the framing department at Michaels at 7 Corners in Falls Church is exemplary. Jesse, who heads the operation, is totally on point and exceedlingly helpful. I had a framing job that needed xtra care and he delivered in a super timely manner. The framing dept has samples displayed on the walls to facillitate the choosing process and much care is given to each customer. It is a popular place so better to go when the traffic is navigatable. Kudos to both Jesse and Julio for superior attitude and performance. Sometimes you even make a freind. read more

If I could give their framing department 0 stars, I would. I LITERALLY came to pick up my custom framed degree 8 times and it STILL had dirt underneath the glass. How many times does one have to explain that it's unacceptable to pay hundreds of dollars to have dirt under the glass that I will never be able to clean because it's sealed? The best part, they gave ME attitude for thinking it was unacceptable and asking them to clean it properly. Honestly, in the gas and time I took to get this thing 8 times, I could've gone to a full prices framing store with better selections and service. TERRIBLE PRODUCTS AND EVEN WORSE SERVICE. read more
