This location has horrible customer service. I do craft blogs for companies and frequent this and other Michaels very often. I have even seen 2 customers (at different times get in arguments with employees due to the employees being rude or non helpful ( in 1 case the employee gave the wrong information to a customer and when the customer nicely corrected the employee the employee was very rude and said well how am I to know where everything is). I have never been greeted with a friendly hello, I have never even seen a employee smile (except for the new young male cashiers upfront, they have never been overly friendly but they have never been rude as I have seen many of the older women that work there, and I have never never had anybody come up to me and ask if they can help me find anything. I had planned to write this review due to my service today and when I read the other reviews it is very obvious that this location has a problem with horrible customer service. I sincerely hope that Michael's corporate office read these reviews and see that due to the fact that hobby lobby and Joanns are within walking distance at this location needs a customer service overhaul. read more

My daughter and I shopped here recently for a bunch of stocking stuffers for her teachers and classmates, and found that they had a decent selection of Christmas goody bags, ornaments and crafts that fit the budget of what we were looking for. I also happened to have a 50% off coupon from their Sunday advertisement in our local newspaper, which I was thrilled to use on one of the $12.00 craft nail polish or bead sets that came attached to instructional books. I thought I had read the fine print about not being able to use the coupon towards gift cards or sale items, but when I got to the counter the cashier told me that it wasn't applicable towards any of my craft items because they were considered "books" and books aren't covered with the coupon. So sadly instead I only ended up saving a measly fifty cents off of a ornament priced for a dollar. I still purchased the multiple craft book sets because they made cute gifts, but was disappointed that there were so many rules to using their weekly coupon. At that point I could easily take my business to Joann's or Hobby Lobby both just across the way. read more

This is the cleanest Michaels I've ever been to. They are almost always in stock of whatever it is I need. With Target two doors down, I typically only come in here for specialty stuff, esp. now that Target has a good selection of glue, spray adhesive, scrapbooking supplies, cheap t-shirts, etc. etc. I only ever come in to Michaels if I have one of their 40% off one item coupons from the paper, but this location is always better to come to than the one in Orange that I seem to get stuck in a lot. They seem to have a better selection here. Hopefully now that I've graduated with my graphic design degree I won't have to come back to the craft store until I have kids of my own. Although it is always fun to browse the scrapbooking paper aisle. read more

This store seems to have good back stock on their craft supplies maybe because it doesn't get much foot traffic of shoppers. But I rarely find myself stuck in a long slow moving line here. It's neat and clean...even the clearance sections. The staff is generally friendly and glad to help. I always use 40% off coupons when buying something at regular price. I don't recommend the app since it limits you to use your weekly coupon only once. Like what if you need 2 or 4 of the same thing? I'm not going to pay full price on the rest of the items if I don't have to. So if you find yourself in this same situation, use the online coupon from their website as many times as you want by going in and out of the store buying the item in each transaction. Lol. I have been shopping at this Michael's since it opened. There are pros and cons to this store. I debated on two or three stars but three being closer to what i would rate them. The staff is friendly enough though some don't know where to find items when you ask. OK, might be a newer employee but it seems I know the layout better than most of them. Selection can be hit or miss depending on what your looking for. There are times when a particular item is out of stock and then the waiting game ensues to see when more will be in stock. Coupons. At one point I went to use a 25% off entire purchase (including sale price items) and the cashier tried to refuse it saying that they accept Joann's coupons but not that particular one! WTF? I flat out told her that you can't say you take Joann's coupons but won't honor this particular one...yes I did get the discount but I shouldn't have to tell the employee what is right and wrong. Latest fiasco with coupons. I went in and had a 40% off coupon. New employee tried to sell me on cake decorating classes when she saw that I was purchasing cake supplies. That's a big negative with me. You have the signs right there and if I was interested I would say so. I don't need a sales pitch at the register. Didn't find out until the day after that the discount coupon wasn't applied to my purchase and the cashier took the coupon. Bet she didn't like it that I told her I am self taught in cake decorating and would be bored (yes bored) with a Wilton class. bet that explains why she took the coupon and didn't give me the discount. With Joann's being newly remodeled, plus carrying more merchandise than before (the cake decorating products now span multiple isles) and staff that ask if they can help you when you walk in, I think Joann's is going to be getting a larger percentage of my business from now on. Matter of fact, I know they are going to be getting at least 99% of my business from now on. read more

Just needed to come in and quickly grab some items for a paint project with some kids. I collected my supplies and ran to the line. I was excited because there was only one other person in line, which I thought would be a quick wait. I was wrong. I understand customer service, but for god's sakes if you have people in line don't go off track with a customer about their project AND wait for her to show you the picture on her phone. When the person in front of me went up all he had was a return. So again, was relieved. But was quickly annoyed when the cashier took SO long to swipe one damn item. When it was finally my turn I was already annoyed and ready to leave. She swiped my stuff and told me one of my items was buy 1 get 1 free, so I went to grab another one. When the 2nd marker didn't make it off the receipt we learned it was buy 2 get 1 free. Ugh! Now not only was I irritated, I was also late! I do arts and crafts for my small business and every now and then I would run out of materials so I need to go to the store. I did the same thing today and I made a mistake of going to michaels. I've always avoided Michaels because compared to hobby lobby and joann's, you would end up paying more for the exact same thing...and the when I asked about why that is...I was told that I can always use a coupon. (I have pictures of items I bought with receipts proving i bought the exact same item, on the exact same day but michaels charged a lot more...i returned it obviously) Anyway, so I walked around and shopped, picking out stuff directly under and behind the clearance and sale signs (same brand and all)...half full of cart later, at the check out counter, i was told that none of my items are on sale. Now I remember why I hate this store. The signs are misleading and there are no staff to ask or confirm anything. Coupon or not, there's always a better choice right next door. Hobby Lobby and joann's. Save yourself the hassle of using a 40% coupon only to end up paying more than how much an item actually is. read more

Like other Michaels, this location sells arts and crafts items. They have the most in-stock items, as the item we were looking for at other locations that was out of stock there was here, as well as other clearance stickers that were out of stock (or that we cleared the shelves of) at the other locations. Unlike both Tustin branches, the paint is located on the left side of the store and the checkouts are on the right so we got lost briefly, although fabric paints were on the right as they were also at the Tustin branch. There seems to be more focus on physical crafts than 2D art at this store since more of it is at the front of the store. They also have a high ceiling. Despite fumbling around with our devices to get the 40% off coupon and doing some impulse buying at the checkout, they honored the coupon. read more

This Michaels store is fairly organized, and the employees are very friendly. I like how the cashiers always remind me and ask if I have any coupons to use - which I always do when it comes to Michaels. One of my gripes with the store is that they would run out of basic necessities required by the Wilton Cake classes, so if you were missing something for class, you were out of luck. I recently finished the Wilton Course# 1: Basic Cake Decorating Class, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself while learning a lot. The class was taught by Charlotte who has years of experience with baking and decorating cakes. However, when I first signed up for the class I had no idea the course was once a week for a whole month. That information was neither provided by the employee that signed me up nor was it on any of the paperwork given to me. Luckily I was able to keep an open schedule for the class, but it certainly displays lack of organization and communication. Also, FYI, be prepared to buy a lot of groceries and baking utensils when you take these cake classes. But with any beloved hobby, it's worth the time and money. read more

This place can be heaven if you're into arts and crafts. I know I can totally shop here for some fun projects to do with my nieces and nephew when they get a little older. I don't usually have much I want to buy here, but I was looking for something cool to prop up my DVDs. Which brings me to the main point of my review: They have the most bad ass selection of dragons and mythical creatures in the miniatures section!!! I've seen an awesome selection of figures ranging from a Chimera, Griffin, Phoenix, Cyclops, and a wide variety of Dragons (both Eastern and Western). They also have a bunch of the Doctor Dreadful kits with the refills on sale last time I was there. I can't really comment on the rest of the store, but if their miniatures selection is any indication of the rest of the store... this is where I would want to shop if I'm looking for a unique item that stands out from commercial items you would find at any major retailer. I would be willing to pay a little more for a specialty item that fits my specific needs. read more

It's my 2nd time dealing with this male cashier. I feel being discriminated because I'm Asian. Last time I thought I was being sensitive, but this time actually confirms it. I've been shop at Michaels on a weekly basis and i'm so glad that they came up with rewards program. So last time, this male cashier had been asking the customers in front of me for their phone numbers to accrue points or if not member yet, would they like to sign up for one. When it's my term, he didn't even bother to ask. The amount was small and I was in a hurry so i didn't bother. This time, again, he asked at least 3 customers in front of me regarding the rewards program, but didn't even bother to ask me at all. I asked to have my phone# enter and all he said was "oh, okay." I was the only Asian customer at the checkout line both times so I feel being discriminated due to race. Please respect everyone and treat people equally!!! read more

Framing department has been great! Completely professional, very skilled with the matting, helpful with picking a mat color. In general, this store seems fairly disorganized and it can be difficult to find someone to assist or they seem flustered when there are two people in line, but everyone seems nice and I have always been thrilled with framing/matting. I do sometimes use other online services to save cost, but if you have a larger, custom job (my last was 2'x3' mat on poster only, as I had the frame) this is very convenient and accurate. I asked for her help to locate poster board that I needed to use for a project for my college art class. She wasn't able to explain the different types of poster board the offered nor was she able to help me find the right one. She blamed me that I didn't provide enough detail for what I was looking for when it was simply an illustration board. I went to hobby lobby next door and was able to find exactly what I was looking for and art supplies at a cheaper cost! The staff at hobby lobby was beyond helpful and very friendly. Total nightmare experience today. I received an electronic gift card for my birthday last week and when I asked the clerk (short blonde hair) what I could use it for she said they did not accept electronic gift cards - I asked her if I shopped if I could try it and she assured me it wouldn't work and I needed the actual card itself...I told her that would be impossible since it was a bday gift sent via email. I asked if I could just grab something and try and purchase she said I could "try" but it never worked on the others. When I gathered several items and checked out with another clerk I asked her why she thought it would work... she told me that several scammers were trying to scam them and the scam wasn't going to work ... are you kidding me!? I asked her if I looked like a scam artist and told her it was rude and she owed me an apology for the implication and frustration. Then when I called to speak with a manager to complain I was out on hold and nobody ever came to the phone. I definitely would avoid buying any gift cards or sending any electronic gift cards for this store - not worth the hassle and bad experience. Michael's was my last hope for finding 27x41 frames for some of my movie posters. And they failed me. Miserably. What's worse, they're now the only place that even carries 27x40 frames, but they charge a king's ransom of $39.99 each. Wal-mart used to sell the exact same frames for $19.99. And don't even mention they're custom framing. That's a service for those with deep pockets and half a brain because they charge an exorbitant fee for even the most modest of jobs. Unless they start kicking down with some serious sales I'm going to have to keep searching elsewhere for the right frames at the right price. read more

This is a pretty damn huge Michael's. It's a crafthead's heaven. It's nicely organized and there's a large selection of low-priced items to stuff gift baskets with or find gifts for people you don't really like. This location also has a classroom where crafting classes take place. The line is kind of set up like Worst Buy or Fry's where the line forces you to be adjacent to candies and snacks where you aren't sure how long they've been on the shelf. I did eye some of the Coke gummies, but decided to pass on them. read more

I have been frequenting Michaels stores in the last few months getting ready for my wedding. I came to this Michaels and I had one of the Joann's Fabrics coupons for 60% off on my phone. They said they only take up to 50% off and she would not honor my coupon. I told her that I had used this just a couple days prior and I have never run into this problem before at other Michaels stores. In fact I believe they keep a code sheet at the register with the Joann's coupon codes. The girl at the register was pretty unprofessional and said something about not wanting to lose her job. Went in today to make a return, unfortunately after I already returned the item they didn't have what I needed(the brand of spray paint was discontinued ) so I went to the register with just my one other item and had to wait in a pretty decent sized line and while I waited I got to watch Sara(same girl who did my return) and seriously she needs to be manager she handed the costumers like a pro while answering phones and helping her coworker next to her. It was my first time coming to this store and the staff were just rude. I didn't realize they were closing. Why not make an announcement saying that. Don't chase me around the store and yell at me that your closing. I had 2 different employees do it. As soon as I heard it went right to front were the cashier again rushed me. This is only my second review on Yelp, so here goes. I am writing this review because I was so very impressed with an employee, Dolores. It was obviously a very busy time, 9:30 Tuesday morning, with a lot of inventory/stocking happening. I came into pick up some Fine Arts supplies for a gift. I was so impressed how Dolores asked me if I needed assistance, even though she was obviously very busy. She gave me great advice and guidance and even gave me suggestions that took me to different parts of the store that demonstrated her knowledge of this Michael's inventory. Furthermore, she engaged other employee's on my quest, which promoted brainstorming and problem solving. It was amazing! Dolores represented professionalism, excellence, and superior customer service, hence the five stars. She demonstrated the type of customer service that would make try to recruit her, if I had my own business and makes me want to come back to this Michael's. read more
