Service is halting having to use automated kiosks. Which aren't always correct- I picked up silk flowers indicated to be on sale and they did not show up with sale price. I had a return of a silk flower arrangement WITH receipt and sales person would not honor as there was no tag ( it didn't have one when purchased) Michaels used to be helpful and engaging. Another TERRIBLE experience. They open at 9am, it's 9:05am right now and the doors are still locked and a bunch of employees are in there looking at us standing outside in the cold. Stopped off at Michaels in Germantown. Its interesting that each store is a little different. Well laid out and with Christmas Behind now its more traditional arts and crafts with parents shopping for the kids or picking up dried flowers or other home accessories. read more

My daughter is a crafting and slime-a-holic machine so we end up here quite a lot. I bulk order her glues online, but she comes here for their cool glitters. They also had a nice selection of planners and planner accessories on sale that she enjoyed. There is always some sale going on, and their clearance, bargain isle always has fun stuff in it. I highly recommend downloading their app for extra savings. It tells you about the sales and usually offers a coupon or two that you won't find in the newspaper. Can't say much about all the other departments of the store, I usually just buy craft paint here, sometimes there are very long checkout lines. The staff has always been pleasant. But I want to comment on the OUTSTANDING framing department. I have had them do several projects for me over the years and they have all turned out more than beautiful. Sometimes I am not sure of what I want; but the staff is so patient and creative with suggestions. They might show me 15 matting possibilities and suddenly I realize, yes, this is it. I'm posting today because I just picked up some tiny paintings on glass that my father had done as a child that I want to give my sister, who is unaware of their existence. I had no idea what could be done with them when I first took them to the store, but the young lady who helped me spent a long time with me. I was actually confused that day when I left; but today, when I unwrapped them, I was stunned by how great the finished product looks. I know my sister will love them. read more

The manager on duty today, Brandon, is snarky at best and not very helpful. I had a return without a receipt. The cashier scanned the items but they did not come up in the database. However, online it says I can buy the item at Michaels. The other items were marked MICHAELS, INC. and he would not take them back. Basically, he said "These are old and just because you bought them here or we sell them here does not mean we will take them back." Not what I call customer service. Try being helpful or friendly or cordial at least. Not good form to snipe at the customer. I told him so. I used to spend a good amount of money here. But never again. And I mean NEVER. I can spend time easily in this store. When I go to this store it's not generally because I need something specific but just go around in the store and try to get inspiration for a vast variety of home decor options that they have. They have got a pretty good collection of artificial flowers and plants for your home decor as compared to the other stores around in the area. One thing I personally love is the water fountain I got from this place. Adds a completely different dimension to your home decor. They also have a lot of accessories and must have items for baking and painting. They also do customized frames. read more

They won't accept Amazon, Wal-Mart or Target... they onlty accept it from a store that is not even in Maryland! The manager didn't even look at me when she said that. I'm not a super crafty person now, so I don't come here often anymore, but I did spend a few years totally into friendship bracelets and t-shirt designs. And those hobbies required a bimonthly, sometimes monthly trip to this Michael's. I was never disappointed. They were always well-stocked and had so many different colored yarn for friendship bracelets as well as starter kits that I bought for friends and family who wanted to try it out. They also had cool puffy paint colors and styles - even metallic and glow-in-the-dark varieties. I was never disappointed when I came here. I even bought starter kits for other things like beaded bracelets and a bird feeder. It's fun to come here during the holidays. The store even smells like cinnamon. And the options for decorating everything from your Christmas tree to your Thanksgiving table are endless. I agree with some reviewers that it is disorganized at times and the cashiers aren't the friendliest people in the world. But I think the products make up for all that. This store is NOT even ghetto fabulous... It's just straight up hood! The staff members were helpful and actually walked me through the aisles to find the snowflakes I was looking for but I'll be damned if any of them care to run the cash registers. The store is a mess and merchandise is strewn all over the place. Expect long lines and only one register to be open. I never visit Michaels and this visit just sealed the deal. I usually find what I am looking for at this location. There are weekly coupons that you can use on regular priced items (40/50%) and even coupons off entire purchases. I especially enjoy coming here for holiday items since they tend to go on sale even before the holiday. During this particular visit, Christmas items were 70% before the holiday! It gives people a chance to decorate without paying full price for seasonal items. The store itself can be difficult to shop in during big sales since items are in disarray. I found a wreath with no price tag on it and the store manager pretty much made up a price for it based on another item of similar size. I also asked the same manager about the restrictions for a particular coupon and he did not know the answer to my question. Again, this was a manager. I think the staff could be better versed with store policy to provide efficient customer service. read more

Store is well stocked almost overstocked for the space. That said this store carries most everything. :Staff is helpful, if not always knowledgeable about the various items. Depending on the time of day there can be a bit of a wait to checkout. However, when I was here I saw staff help a customer load a large fragile order into her car....in the rain! RACIST STAFF!! I recently moved to Maryland and this is my closest Michaels location. There are several others within driving difference and I will go out of my way to avoid this location!! I love shopping Michaels, I love the sales, the seasonal items are wonderful, and the staff is usually pleasant. This Michaels is HORRIBLE! Its dirty, uncared for and there are boxes of unpacked merchandise everywhere that you almost trip over trying to find what you are looking for. The first time I shopped here I had to search for someone to help find an item. I finally located a group of staff members "hanging out" in the framing area. When I approached, 2 people disappeared into the back room of the framing area, and the other two started to walk away without looking at me. I directly asked one to help me and he reluctantly agreed. He was a heavy set, sloppy looking boy who looked like he slept in his cloths and smelled like a brewery! I could not believe no one seemed to realize this kid was DRUNK! I took his name from his name tag (Jason) and advised management. I thought this was the end of it until a few days ago I was again shopping in this location and I overheard a group of kids mimicking an accent that I believe was middle eastern, saying "OH! My coupon does not work on everything! Why do I not get 40 percent off everything!" and then another voice saying "God I hate whey "they" get in my line". I walk around the corner thinking to embarrass a group of silly kids (I was born in the United States, my parents were not) and EVERY kid in the group MAKING FUN OF MY CULTURE were WEARING MICHAELS UNIFORMS!! The worst part was the SAME FAT WHITE KID that was DRUNK on my previous visit (Jason) was actually the one doing the "impression". Upon seeing me the group quickly dispersed and I could not get all the names without being confrontational. There was a white girl named Lisa, I did not get the three others names. I left my basket (about $200 worth of items) and left the store. Complaining to the manager the first time didnt work so now I am voicing my opinion on YELP hoping someone pays attention. It wont effect me as I will not shop this location again, but a "Clean Up" of your staff would be beneficial. read more

Horrified. Used to go to the store in Columbia but recently moved. Went to this store to return some wood items I wasn't able to finish for a craft show. Couldn't find the receipt and they couldn't find the information matched to my rewards or credit card. Brandon, the manager, treated me like a criminal. The absolute worst customer service, and would not take any of my returns, even for the last 90 day value, which is what michaels return policy states. Really disgusted with his attitude. The cashier who had assisted me was very kind, but this manager was appalling. On the phone with 1-800 now, so that even if they won't take my return, managers like Brandon can be addressed. I shop at Michaels frequently, I'm sure he could see that with my rewards number, and have hardly ever made a return, once that I can even recall in 5 years.
