Went to have girls day with my daughter attending a Craft Event for Kids. It was absolutely a fun time because she loves arts and crafts. The only downfall is it would be nice to know ahead of time if we had to purchase an item to actually make the craft. I had to join a 12 step program to stop shopping like a crazy person in any Michaels. If I don't have a list for specific items, it is dangerous to be in a craft store. But, I received a coupon for free items so I had to visit. There were lots of seasonal items on sale for 50% off. I found two gifts and quickly exited the store. Bottom Line: Clean and well organized with great coupons. Oh how I wish I went to Michaels first when shopping for Christmas crafts and decor. They had an amazing selection mid-December. And after Christmas it was all 75% off. I don't usually get excited about sales but I got some awesome items after Christmas to add to my great collection of pre-Christmas purchases. Craft stores sometimes feel chaotic and dirty to me but this store is bright, clean and well organized. Aside from seasonal items Michael has supplies for cake decorating, jewelry making, flower arranging, fabric decorating and many other crafty undertakings. They also have kids crafts, puzzles and supplies for school projects. Although located near the hustle and bustle of Arundel Mills and Maryland Live! this store far enough away that you can avoid that congestion. Best times to shop at Michael's: It's not like you ever NEED anything at this store! So I check the flyers and clip the coupons and hit all the sales. Silk flowers- 40% off. Yes please! Hey, I have real flowers in my house too. I just like these because they last through the winter, all my vacations and give me love I can handle for the one solid price. Frames - 50% off. Why buy full price?? Ross or Michaels. Done. Presents? Done. Baskets - On sale? yessssss. Thank gawd I don't scrapbook anymore. I just skip those aisles but they always have sales. The employees will talk and critic you behind your back the whole time you're there. No one ever should experience that while shopping, very horrible experience felt very uncomfortable throughout the time I was there. Its no secret but im a little bit of a craft addict.. I have spent my fare share of time in and out of craft stores. The only things I need are supplies, inspiration and knowledgable staff. I know for most Michaels (and this one is no different) that im not going to get seasoned crafters working there so I tend to not ask them questions about the projects im working on, but it would be nice if they were helpful in finding things. Im often ignored by the workers or have to search high and low around the store to find things. As far as store layout, they have recently changed things around and it makes it really hard to find anything I need. I haven't yet given the classes a try but if the sales people are any indication of what the teachers are like, I'll continue to steer clear. read more

Yay for coupons! I typically only shop at Michaels when I have a coupon and they are usually running sales all of the time. Only downside to the sales is that items have to be regular price in order to use the coupon... kind of defeats the purpose. Overall, I like this location. There is plenty of parking and a nice selection of items. The selection is not as vast and the prices are not as cheap as Hobby Lobby, but it is a convenient location. Also, they seem to change the layout of the store a lot, but the store associates are usually willing to help. Make sure to look for the $2 grab bags by the check out, they're usually filled with some great things! read more

Find another store if you're looking to have anything framed. They did not give any dimensions for the mattes, or the framing. One of mine was put in upside down in the framing and the other had to be sent back to get fixed. The matte when it came back is visibly crooked and they did not bother making sure that any particles were out before framing. Framing is expensive and I will be going someplace else in the future. read more

First time here and while I'm used to see all they carry, their customer service is disappointing. I had a question and there was a lady in the back at the frame department. She's looking at me like what do you need. Ugh. She kind of answered my question and left me there, walking away. The cashier wasn't any better. This store is decent. It looks like any other Michaels. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of asking for help in finding a few items for a specific project. No one knew if they had it, what it was, or where it might be. I asked for alternative suggestions, and they simply shrugged their shoulders. Seriously, I was just trying to make stickers... Finally they paged someone who had been working there for more than a week and said all of that stuff was no longer ordered. There were label makers, but no label paper anymore so the makers were useless. I'm not a super artsy/ crafty type of a person, which is why I drove out to a store to ask for advice rather than just order online. Without the assistance these stores claim they can provide, they will shrivel up and go out of business. I ended up ordering everything online for 1/3 of the price, and 1/4 of the time. read more

Whew. The worst. Do not bother with curbside pickup, because no matter how long you sit in your car outside they will never bring your items and you'll have to go in. I have had this experience twice in the last 30 days. Gave them a third chance and they gave me the wrong item at in store pickup and when I noticed (back at home) they told me it could only be resolved by going back to the physical store. Customer Care provided zero help. I do not have more time to keep dealing with Michaels. Will just take my business someplace else. read more

Came here to have a gift framed and who knew that framing could be so pricey? Never fear; I had the pleasure of working with Nathalie who was very patient with me and showed me many options to make my frame selection appealing yet affordable. They even have equipment that can take an image and show you how your item will look with the particular frame you select. The store was clean and organized and I was greeted immediately when I walked in. After paying for my purchase in the framing department, I received coupons for various amounts but not are applicable to framing items. I did however find a photo storage box so that I can better store pictures instead of having them in random places. The young lady who was greeting that day was kind enough to assist me with items that were high on the shelves when her lazy co-worker was hoping that I wouldn't ask her to do her job. Using the coupons I saved over 50% on the photo storage box and I now know why some of my Yelp friends visit Michael's. The employees were busy stocking the shelves with seasonal items and it seems like you can definitely find something that'll keep idle hands busy here. I'm anxious to give feedback on the quality of their framing services. I can see myself coming back here for cookie cutters and the cake decorating classes they offer. read more

Firstly, I love Michaels. One of my favorite stores ever. I'm in, at least once a month. Either there or JoAnn's. I do a lot of crafting, thus frequent both quite often. This store was always criminally understaffed the few times I was there. I don't know what the manager is thinking, but you can tell the staff is always stressed to the max and they need twice as many people as they do. I went several times during my trip to family in Maryland, and the last time I was in this store was the weekend before Christmas. Yes, I was expecting insanity. No, I was not planning on making the trip quickly. There were 3 (THREE) employees in the store. THREE. For the weekend before Christmas. ON TOP OF THAT, I overheard the manager absolutely berating some poor employee for not restocking something fast enough. With only 2 other employees (both of whom were on the register), it's no wonder! The manager was nowhere to be seen throughout my entire visit there, as I was able to look at all three nametags. I feel so sorry for these employees and hope Michael's corporate is able to do something about this awful manager soon. read more

I frequent Michaels as I travel across the nation. Michaels is one of those stores that makes you feel like you are at home because they are all laid out the same fashion. HOWEVER, this is the first time I have been in a Michaels and received subpar service at check out. The young lady behind the counter was not friendly and did not talk to me but her fellow cashier about another customer simply pointing out that they still had Christmas decoration on their bags. When I interjected, she looked at me like "butt out guy." I am sorry to say I will not go back to this Micheals while I am in the area and I hope that management takes steps to correct their cashiers on the importance of customer service. As a craft store, it is like any other Michaels. But, had my daughters birthday party there and would not recommend. The assistant they gave me "Jennifer" was utterly useless. Most of my questions were met with a shrug and a "I dunno". The party room was fine, you have to bring your own decorations but a big room with plenty of space. Only problem, no heat! The kids painted while wearing their coats. The staff told me there was nothing they could do because corporate headquarters control the heat from Texas. If that is true then corporate needs to address the fact that MD was a high of 25 degrees today. Ideally, this could be a great place for a party if they fix the temperature of the room. And give you an assistant that actually can provide some help. read more

We use this location a lot for custom framing. It's easier to park/get to then the Riva Festival location which is why we drive out to this store. They usually have pretty great discounts for custom framing and frames in general, just have to wait for those good sales if you are trying to get the best deal. read more

I drive past this store, even though it is more convenient for me... The customer service is ALWAYS terrible. I shop for crafting and baking tools often, but this store will get NONE of my hard earned money! Let me start by saying that I am in this store at least once a week for my crafting needs. So much so that I have learned that when certain individuals are in the store I am just in and out to avoid any interaction with them because their attitudes are not congruent with the position they hold, or with any position within customer service. Recently I noticed that their sale (which brought me into the store this trip after doing online research) was posted incorrectly. I then brought it to the only available representatives attention. Unfortunately for me it was the individual that has been unfriendly, rude, condescending, rushed, uninterested and unhelpful on prior visits. She then proceeded to look at my phone where the sale information was on display and became argumentative, adamantly refused to honor the sale after scanning an unrelated object and saying "this is only scanning at 50% not 70%". I then placed a call to customer service that was unaware of any sale as if they also do not have access to their website to see doorbuster deals. This was the worst visit to Michael's I have had in a very long time. I proceeded to multiple other Michael's locations to get what I needed and they all had this sale properly labeled. Someone should talk to this manager about how customers rely on these sales to be honored when they run home based businesses and they intend to shop without feeling crooks for having sales honored. read more

I would have given one star but everything is super organized and they have a lot of good choices. However, the costumer service was AWFUL today. I don't know if people are less patient because of the holidays, but the lady who rung me up had an extremely bad attitude and failed to answer simple questions about discounts and merchandise in a polite way. She was being very sarcastic and rude, and did not say "please" and "thank you" once, instead she said things in a demanding and condescending way. I wish I caught the woman's name- she was stocking the artists section- greeted me and asked if I needed assistance. I told her what was was looking for and she showed me where it was. She also introduced me to other products and was extremely knowledgable with paint texture additives. Learned quite a few things in just a few minutes and from a very pleasant rep. That woman needs a raise. Aside from this, every time I go in here, the cashiers and floor people are very friendly, great attitudes and fantastic customer service. read more

Lines, lines, and more lines. I have visited this location several times and each time there is a long line with people waiting at least 10 mins to check out. Every time I have visited only one lane is open with at least 6 customers in line. Meanwhile managers and workers are busy stocking the shelves or putting up displays. It's pathetic. This complaint is in reference to the Michaels store located at 7665 Arundel Mills Blvd in Hanover, Maryland. On 11/23/14 between 1400-1500hrs, my wallet was stolen on the store's lefthand main aisle (that leads to the framing area). I fully acknowledge this theft could happen ANYWHERE, so every shopper should remain vigilant regardless of location and never leave their items unattended, but thieves prey on lone, distracted shoppers (in my case I was too focused on my Christmas shopping list and was too much in the Christmas spirit that I allowed myself to get distracted by a "friendly" scammer). Shoppers frequenting a hobby store could also be seen as ideal targets because scammers and thieves may perceive them to have more discretionary spending money than other types of shoppers. I only realized I did not have my wallet when I got to the register. Michaels Employee #1 was extremely cheerful, polite and patient while I searched for a wallet that was not there. When I accepted that my wallet was missing, she assured me my items for purchase would be set aside while I retrace my steps from the last place I knew I had my wallet. After an unsuccessful search, I came back to the store to ask Employee #1 if it would be possible to review video footage for the 1400-1500 timeframe (I asked because I suspected my wallet was stolen from my purse as it sat in my cart unattended as one female (thief) was distracting me with her "Thanksgiving fake flower centerpiece"). I was redirected to Employee #2 as #1 was manning the register, which is completely understandable and I had no problem with that. Upon hearing my dilemma and my request for management's help, Employee #2 explained something along the lines of, "you really can't leave your items unattended" (not part of my request) and did not offer any additional help. It was my knowledge of retail loss prevention that prompted me to inform #2 that I will be calling the police and I need a manager's name and that we will be reviewing surveillance footage. Employee #2 initially did not make any effort to give me anything, but rather said, "look at your receipt" (MY WALLET WAS STOLEN SO I DID NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING SO: NO RECEIPT). I explained that to her and she finally made an effort to find paper and wrote the name of the store and the store's phone number on it. I handed it back and asked for the manager's name. Employee #2 only offered the manager's first name. I took what I had and left. Later, because I DID determine that my banking cards did in fact have fraudulent activity ranging in $1000s, I came back to the store with an Anne Arundel police officer. When we both entered the store and asked for help, Employee #3 looked like a deer caught in headlights when we asked for the manager on duty and was ultimately also of no assistance. This specific store location is known for having highly unreliable management and not putting forth even minimal effort to be effective. I am actually an avid knitter and scrapbooker and will be buying a lot of children's arts and crafts supplies in the coming years, but unfortunately, I have decided to never give this particular store my business again. I will either go to the JoAnn's closer to me but with a sub-par selection of products, or I will drive further to a different Michaels store location, or I will just order everything online. It was never my expectation to get my wallet back after being scammed, but I did expect way better customer support than what I received. To be clear: Employee #1 was very pleasant to deal with; she even hoped that I would find it, and I truly appreciated that sentiment. Employee #2 was very difficult to deal with, was of no help whatsoever, and was rude. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. I warn Michaels patrons like myself who are just expecting no trouble for a stressfree shopping experience and for the employees to put themselves in a victim's shoes every now and then. This did negatively impact my Christmas Spirit, but I am determined to not let this take over and prevent me from seeing good in people. read more
