Michael's MiniMart which saved me from calling AAA.

A big piece of road travel is planning and keeping your car fueled. Guess who did a terrible job of that? I should have filled up in Taos, but I figured there would be a station somewhere near the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. There wasn't. So here we are driving down dirt roads into the gorge and I'm looking at the gas gauge thinking "How much further can we go if I turn off the A/C?" Dumb rookie screw up but fortunately we made it to Mike's and topped off. Location, location, location! Well done, Mike.

The enchiladas consisted of small hard bits of meat scattered through a soupy mix of shredded cheese and watery red sauce. I understand that this restaurant has a storied past, and was previously a favorite stop for many former governors. But I fear those days are long past.

Adam is the perfect person to introduce one to his family's establishment. Explains everything for the newbies. Patient and erudite. Such poise in such a young person. It's a small dining area. Clearly a local fave. Phone was ringing off the hook. But many clearly knew their way around. A few ppl walked in, placed their order and said they'd be back at such and such a time. There's only a small kitchen We got to mean Domenic, our cook A sweetheart and a skilled chef. The food itself seems straightforward and pretty simple, but each dish had its own flavor which I think is pretty hard to do and each was so satisfyingly delicious. I think I would've bn satisfied with just the menudo and the half order of nachos, but didn't know it at the time we ordered so we went on and got the El Faro burger, my friend ordered the cheese enchiladas and of course we got the chile Christmas on the side. Fantastic! And a tremendous value. We were quite shocked that our entire meal, including 2 sodas came to less that $40, such that we left double that bc these small businesses are such treasures and we want such places to remain in business. Seemed there were quite a few locals but also lots of travelers coming through. I certainly plan to be back soon!

This was BFF's first time here and he loved it. Both he and mom ordered the carne adovada plate which came with refried beans and rice (they did state that the red chile was too spicy though). I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with both red and green chile (Xmas style). It was ok but 16 bucks for this was too expensive. We also ordered a margarita each and they were also just ok and too expensive at 13 bucks each. As for the parking, it is kind of confusing but there is plenty of (unmarked) spots and kind of like a maze. We dropped off mom on the side (she is handicapped) as there really isn't a front side where you can drop off anyone. Our server was so genuinely nice though and provided excellent service and she went above as well as she noticed us dropping mom off via the cameras and told us we could go out through the side entrance. Would I be back? Most likely not as I had mentioned above that this place has never been one of my favorites but I am sure I am in the minority. I hear it is quite the place to be seen (for happy hour).

Fajitas are always a hit. I got the taco combo plate this last time and had to take most of it to go as the portions are huge and a little greasy, but everything was delicious. Service is always great even when we come in with 10-20 people. It can be a little cramped, but they accommodate our huge parties. Bathrooms are nice and clean.

I have been coming here for thirty-five years, and it blows my mind that after more than three decades, it keeps reaching new heights while fiercely retaining everything that made it legendary in the first place: the unbeatable high quality, the remarkably affordable prices, and those effortlessly cool, historic vibes. It is a rare, beautiful gem that refuses to compromise its soul, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. This visit was extra special because my fiancé was a first-timer, and he was instantly converted, falling just as madly in love with the magic of this place as I did decades ago. On this particular afternoon, the lines were wrapped around the courtyard and the energy was absolutely electric. It was hella busy, which is a testament to how beloved this institution remains. Rather than waiting for a table, we decided to grab our food to go--a move that turned out to be pure perfection. We took our feast over to the historic plaza square, found a spot to sit, and ate under the shade of the trees while listening to live music drift through the air. With a beautiful, cool mountain breeze rustling through the plaza, it was the most quintessential, magical Santa Fe experience you could ever ask for. As for the food, it remains an absolute revelation. I ordered my enchiladas "Christmas" style, split right down the middle with both their famous, deeply savory red chile and their bright, perfectly spiced green chile. The first bite instantly reminded me why no one else can touch what they do here. The blue corn tortillas were tender, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the chiles carried that robust, earthy, authentic New Mexico heat that warms you from the inside out. It is a flawless execution of culinary tradition. To be able to deliver that level of world-class, scratch-made perfection at a price point that still feels incredibly generous is nothing short of a miracle. Whether you sit in their enchanting, labyrinthine dining rooms or pack it up for a picnic on the square, The Shed is the absolute pinnacle of the Santa Fe spirit.

This morning, a few minutes before their scheduling opening time, we walked by; the door was open and a manager was sitting on a chair.
