I have been coming to Michael's salon for many years. Things haven't always been perfect but for the most part, they are clean and friendly. Many times I have had to wait and I understand that that's part of the business even with an appointment. Also they have gotten increasingly expensive over the years but I understand that also is in most salons. I don't get a gel manicure I have a regular manicure and I get a spa pedicure and a massage twice a month. It isn't cheap and I tip my tech well. This week I didn't have time for the whole procedure I just wanted to come in for a regular manicure. I called for an appointment and they said to come in at 12:30. When I came in at 12:30 Michael said there was no one there that could take care of me and basically just told me to leave. I guess it wasn't Profitable enough for them to give me, a loyal customer of a many years, a quick manicure. Very poor business ethics. It's just all about making money. OK I'm happy to say that the owner and my technician called and rectify the situation. read more

4.5 Rating I walked in with my mother since we needed a place to do out nails before a wedding the next day, we both did SNS manicures and pedicures. We walked in at around 12 and waited for about half an hour before someone took us. I was pretty shocked that they line the tubs with plastic and remove them after they finish your pedicure, I've never seen that before. They also use a fresh set of tools, I saw her open the package myself. She finished my pedicure with no hiccups, quick and neat. The owner Michael did my nails. He did a great job on my nails, the only caveat is that since he's the owner, he would stop in the middle to greet the customers, answer the phone, and write appointments for his regulars. But he still did a great job other than nicking my cuticle with the electric file just once. If you plan on coming I highly recommend calling and making an appointment beforehand, it really is worth it. read more

It was my first time at Michael's and they are so accommodating. I called to make an appointment for 7 p.m as I arrived I was greeted immediately! The staff are all very nice, they really go out of their way to have a conversation with you and make sure your comfortable. Amy did my sns and she was very sweet. It was about 20 min before closing when she started my sns because I also got a pedicure and I was nervous she would rush it but she took her time and my nails came out beautiful and neat. Even though when she finished they were closed she still gave me a mini back massage while I wait for my nails to dry . Customer service is definitely priority here and I truly appreciated that . Too many people go here walks and many appointments it's usually packed. That being said I don't feel they can take the time and patience to really take care of your nails. I don't like how they do the sns powder here but regular manicures are pretty good . read more

Horrible.... I did a better job when I used to do my own nails. They were way shorter then I asked for they weren't the same shape, you could see my real nails on the sides of multiple nails and they were also different lengths. He kept stopping literally every two mins to either answer the phone or talk to someone in the salon. He went to paint my nail the wrong color because he picked the wrong bottle after one of his breaks. He kept leaving me in the mid process. He was also telling everyone that called to come right over they weren't busy. Michael clearly only cares about the money and has no problem rushing you to get as many people done as possible. I'm sorry but I'm a paying costumer and that was completely unacceptable. Needless to say I didn't return. The work Michael's does is absolute trash. read more

I have been going to Michael's for a couple of years now. The wait time when I walk in can be pretty high but thats because they are so good. Usually every chair is taken when I walk in. I love Jenny, who has been one of my nail ladies for years. I also like Emma, who did my tips last month. Her technique was amazing and I loved my nails! I called here and asked if they do ombré & they said yes... I came here last minute cause I needed my nails done & I had broke two nails previously , I came in at 7 which is late & when I sat & told the nail tech what I wanted she kept trying to change my mind by saying the color will be to dark & if I was just one color instead of ombré . I didn't question it cause she probably wanted to do what was easy & go home. She kept making side comments about never being there so late & how she wants to do this quick . ( by the way I wanted coffin shaped nails) when I finally got to see her final work my nails are litterally leaning to the side, the shape is horrible & my nails are bulky . I usually see Mia, she's very nice and helps me figure out colors or nail designs. She is not afraid to attempt nail designs that I suggest, and they always come out pretty. read more

I've been coming here for almost 2 years because my friend recommended it and she use to come here. I originally use to have Nikki do my nails and she was great. Then I had Rachel at first she was great. I convinced my best friend and her mother to come to this place all the way from Douglaston. As time passed by Rachel got sloppy and service was a hit or miss. A few times I left unhappy but I figured Rachel was over booked. Once I left with a horrible sns manicure and pedicure because Rachel was over booked and I was passed down to another manicurist that I had to go the next day for an entire do over. A few times I used Luna and her work is exceptional. My friend and her mom stopped coming here because service wasn't always good anymore. Plus it became annoying to make appts when they end up waiting long periods of time l to get serviced. This week I made an appt for 1:30pm I arrive and Rachel is in the middle of a manicure no where near finish. I was a bit concerned because I only had a limited time to spare. I got seated down so they can remove my powder. I had the acetone on my nails for about 30 mins!!! My nails were short and they were hurting because I had the acetone on so long, I decided to remove the acetone wrapping. I turn around and she's still doing the other persons nails!! Now it's past 2 pm I'm waiting I had an appt that I couldn't be late for. Finally instead of arguing and rushing anyone to get terrible service because now they are rushed I decided to walk out!!!! I've gotten tired to always being rushed when I go there and asked to come in early to spend more time waiting then getting serviced. I'm extremely disappointed with your establishment. With so many establishments on crossbay I'm not sure If I will return. I know they already lost as a client my friend Barbara and my friend and her mom haven't come back because there's always an issue with the appts they previously book. Unfortunately both times I got a rushed job on my nails...My nails look like I did them myself, you would think I got them done for free! I don't recommend this place...and I won't visit again! So this is my first visit here and I hope to revise my review next visit. I really wanted to like this place because the owner Michael seems really nice and more importantly this place is CLEAN. The cleanliness is actually the most important factor for me when getting a mani/pedi. Next importance is the quality of service. That's where the rub comes in. It was a really rainy day but there were still a decent number of customers. That speaks well for this place. I asked how long the wait was for two people for a mani/pedi. One person could be taken right away and the second in about 20. Ok. Well, the first person was taken in 20 minutes and the second didn't have the time to get anything done. The woman that was "ready" and was going to take the first person literally took almost 15 minutes talking with her friends, using the bathroom walking back and forth looking for tools, etc. It was annoying and unnecessary. I was told by my friend after observing her work that she was lazy with her pedicure and barely worked his feet. That is a shame since he didn't need polish etc. Her name is Susan. Make sure you don't use her if you go to this place. I'll be back one more time to give this place a last chance since a good clean nail place is really hard to find. While I was happy with the service, I will never be returning. I paid with a credit card and left a tip in cash. The woman who did my nails proceeded to tell me "I took care of you, you need to take care of me." I guess the tip wasn't to her liking. I was very embarrassed and it was very unprofessional. I walked out and told everyone to have a nice night. I have never been told that and I am not a cheap person. I have been going to Michael's for many years. Started out in old Howard Beach location before they open the new one on Crossbay Boulevard. Although as a walk-in the wait time maybe long it's only because they are so like a lot of people go to them. With that being said you are better off with an appointment even if you have to wait a few minutes. I have had many Curious by many of their girls and although some are better than the others never really had a complaint. I have been a customer of Michael's for about 5 years - first at his original business and now at Michael's Nails 2. Although I have a standing appointment every two weeks, there are occasions that I have to wait. Do I like waiting? No, not at all. But I do understand that it is the way this type of business works. Sometimes customers come in late and some manicurists take more time than other to do the same job. Similar to going to a doctor or dentist. Michael and EVERYONE of his staff are pleasant and courteous! They are very professional and are always willing to help if you are not sure of a color or kind of service you want. He offers many different types of services and has a large selection of colors for each type of manicure (plain, gel, powder). This business is kept neat and clean and instruments are always sterilized. I am very satisfied with this business and have recommended many friends. I will continue to patronize it. read more

They are very nice and friendly. The place is really nice and clean. Close to home which makes it convenient. They have SNS powder gel which is a HUGE plus! The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because it was my first time there and the lady (although very nice) cut my cuticle and made it bleed by accident with one of those tools that they use to file/smooth nails. if i could give no stars i would. i made an appointment for my little cousin, my sister and i. i called 4 days before, for two full sets and a pedicure. We walked in 5 minutes before the appointment, we were told just to wait and sit down. My little cousin showed Michael the picture of the ombre powder nails she wanted and he told her it was $50 when on the phone he said $45, and when i showed him the long pointy acrylic nails i wanted he told me $40 instead of $35. So why is it when i get there the prices changed when i specified exactly what i wanted on the phone? We waited an HOUR before my cousin was seen and i ended up not getting my nails done. 3 people walked in after us and were seen right away. i had to argue about the price of my cousins nails, Michael was extremely rude and overall horrible service. My advice, don't​ make appointments because they don't matter. read more

Very very disappointed with the customer service I received. First off I never leave reviews on yelp due to the fact that I work with customers on a daily and completely understand how difficult it can be. However, after the way I was treated at Michael's, I can't help but say something. I live in the Ozone park area and I worked in Howard Beach on Crossbay blvd for a few years. I decided to go to Michaels after finding them here on yelp and the reviews were fair. Of course I never expected to be treated the way that I was. I went in at 6pm for a Gel Mani and reg Pedi. I waited for about 35 min and then I was taken to do my pedicure, which was great beside the fact that in the middle of it my pedicurist switched with someone else. Then after she finished, she took me over and started my manicure. As she was cleaning my nails another customer who had an appointment asked the owner, Michael, who would be doing her mothers pedicure (whose feet were soaking in water). Michael (the owner) actually came over to me and stopped the girl from doing my manicure and told me he's sorry that the women has an appointment and sent his employee to do the other customers pedicure. I was in shock that he actually did that and then I waited FORTY FIVE minutes for ANOTHER employee to be done with HER customer before she started my manicure. I arrived there at 6 and left at 9. I left there and the women that I was left for was sitting there reading a book waiting for her daughter. So finishing my manicure, which was already in process, would not have delayed them at all. What really made me upset was that I was treated as if my business didn't matter because I wasn't a regular customer and honestly I can say I wasn't dressed to the nines that day, I was dressed comfortably. I was so upset I would've cried. I didn't walk out only because my pedicure was done and I needed the color to match my finger nails. I actually would have loved to return there due to the fact that I was satisfied with my pedicure and manicure BUT I was disrespected. I have never been treated this way by any institution. Like every customer I went there for a relaxing and soothing experience as I was leaving for vacation the next day. Please be aware if you are planning on going here as a new customer, if you look a certain way such as if your not dressed lavishly then you will not be respected.
