Aisle after aisle of the same stuff, and somehow it manages to feel both overwhelming and uninspiring at the same time. I went in hoping for a little creative spark and instead just kind of wandered around like... is this it? That said, credit where it's due. they came THROUGH with terracotta pots. Small, basic selection, the cheapest I've found around, which saved the entire trip. So yeah, not exciting, but weirdly reliable if you're going for 10" or less terra cotta pots. read more

This Michaels is by far the best one I've been to in a while, usually it's just okay but this location more than exceeded my expectations. Veronica was so much help! Very friendly and patient; she went above and beyond to help us with some balloons. Not only was Veronica amazing! The other lady who was working with her made teamwork happen and assisted when Veronica was busy with the balloons. The balloons were put together so beautifully! Thank you for helping us today! Clearly the in store employees didn't want to fulfill my order. I placed an online order for this location and within 30 minutes I got an email claiming my order was filled. Then twenty minutes later I got two emails saying my order was cancelled. Upon further checking three items were cancelled and customer support claimed the items were unavailable.So when I go to pickup my order those exact items were in stock a plenty! So now here I am waiting 3-5 business days for a refund for items they claimed weren't available...what a rip off read more

This store has always been difficult to get help and typically the kids in the framing department aren't the best but today they were extra lame. All I needed was mat board and they had little to nothing in their floor stock and I couldn't get much help from these two snotty kids with board they had for custom framing. They kept helping other people and when I finally asked if they were going to assist me the girl with the curly hair snapped back at me. Sheesh, all I wanted was a bit of mat board and some basic help. Why are so many kids so rude now? I believe these sort of attitude issues fall at the feet of management but what do I know? All my experiences in this store have revolved around picture frames. I know it is full of all the necessary craft materials you may need, but I have only needed picture frames. You have two choices, one allows you to browse the stock and find a frame that fits your picture. This is a much cheaper option than your other choice which is to have your picture framed for you by the friendly folks behind the picture framing counter. Walking around the store can be a fascinating experience depending on who else is shopping. Is the craft mama there herding her children around as she looks for a crochet hook to replace the one her youngest child used as a fish hook in the toilet? Back of haters, I love Michael's! Ha...Ha..This is where I shop because they practically have everything I need for arts & crafts. From Mod Podge to baking supplies... They have it. My mom is very crafty and talented, so I guess I inherited her creativity. People here grumble about how expensive this place is, well be a smart shopper and download their application or use coupons. I have saved up to 40% here because I have downloaded their Iphone application. They also have a rewards card, so more savings there! One of the items that I like about this shop is they carry my favorite glue called "Liquid Fusion". This stuff bonds to everything and doesn't stick to your fingers like super glue. I can't seem to find that stuff anywhere else except Michael's. I needed it for my Halloween costume for the yelp event, so I went here to buy it. That product is awesome. I wish they'd carry them in bigger sizes because I use it for everything. They carry blank masks here also, but they don't carry the bird mask that I need for my costume, so I went on line. Went in to get white spray paint and a frame. The lady at the frame designing counter was rude and basically told me she has no idea what a canvas frame is (floating frame and to go possible go on Amazon to find one and walked away into the frame design room. Then when I asked someone for spray paint to flock my tree the lady was trying to talk me into the fake snow spray which I did not want since they had spray paint and seemed annoyed since that section was locked and proceeded to get snarky with me. Not one employee but the sweet young man at the checkout counter was nice. I had reported a customer skipped out on paying the remaining $10 on the self service checkout and instead of the manager saying thank you for noticing she didn't even acknowledge me when was speaking and just went to the register to take care of it. Where is your customer service or smile? So cold, very rude service! I will not be going back and will drive out of my way to go to Hobby Lobby from now on. This location is the Michaels location I frequent the most. I'm always finding other hobbies to keep me busy and I can usually find what I need at Michaels. Their pricing has increased recently, but if you sign up for their emails you can get discounts on your items. I usually visit closer to the evening time and while I have gotten some very tired employees at the cash register, I've never gotten anyone who was unfriendly. I like how they have price scanners (although most items are clearly marked on the shelves). I do enjoy this Michaels location and plan to keep returning. read more

Let's be honest, holiday shopping kind of sucks. When you have a vision in your head of what you want and the store teases you making it seem they have it in stock REALLY sucks. There were about 40 tags on this Christmas tree, implying they had that many. Of course they aren't that organized! What would you expect? The last one was the floor model. Today, however, annoyed me for different reasons. I approached an employee for help and his response when I said hello was a very aggressive 'What?' I have bought sooo much stuff for my wedding from this store. Three of those items being frames. These 12x18 inch frames are so damn cheap they have broken each time I tried to place my photo inside. I called to asked them if I purchase two more if they can help me out the pictures in maybe I'm doing something wrong. They want to charge me $6.00 each frame to insert my photo.... Four stars for walking out with $5 less out of my wallet. The store is massive and categorizes it's items well. There was tons of sales items ( possibly due to the season change ) and I managed to grab two frames for 79 cents each and some washi tape for $1.49. Pretty good deals though the normal priced items were a bit steep. Most items were 30%-80% off. There was no line at the register and was helped by a friendly woman. It's easy to get lost in here, because your creative juices get flowing. Happy I could buy some things to decorate my place without breaking the bank. read more

No stars for this Michael's. But yelp wont let me post without giving at least 1 star. If you need something framed DO NOT GO HERE!!!! The ladies working in the framing department 1) have no idea what they are doing, 2) they don't care about your picture/artwork, and 3) they will avoid personal responsibility and blame when they have destroyed it. I brought my one of a kind poster there to be framed and they did a poor job. I paid A LOT of money to have it framed so I took it back to be fixed since the poster was draping behind the glass as a result of the first time they framed it. The second time, they literally ruined my gloss poster by putting heat on it. They never asked me to put heat on it - they just did it like idiots. They called and told me with no emotion that they had ruined my poster. They suggested I bring in a replacement as if what I brought them was not one of a kind. I was in tears!!!!! When I showed up in person to collect my precious irreplaceable poster, and asked them how they could do this?!?!? They simply said "well I didn't do it". I asked who did and if I could speak with them. They told me this person was at lunch. When I asked their name, they wouldn't give it to me claiming they did not know - bullshit. They refunded my money and acted like it was no big deal and happens all the time. That's what is SCARY. Only 1 staffer apologized but it wasn't genuine. The others all looked away and told me "they didn't do it and it's not their fault." Other customers may have to go through what I have - the pain of losing something (a memory) that is irreplaceable to the hands of incompetent sociopaths who care nothing for the work they do or value other people's precious treasures while carefully framing them. Frankly every one of those ladies should be fired. But I know that won't happen. Don't take your things to be framed here as there is a 60% chance they will ruin them beyond repair!!!!!!! I frequent this store because it's close to my house. The inventory is good and usually find what I need. My reason for the two stars is because the staff pretty much doesn't care what goes on. Twice I have used the self check kiosk and BOTH times, after I enter my rewards number, ring up and bag all my purchases, the amount at the end has only charged me for two items. The scan beeped on each item. Being who I am, both times, I called a worker over and told them that I could have left paying half of what I really owed. That their kiosk only rang up a portion of what I got. I kid you not, both ladies (different ones) said "oh , well you must have done something wrong" and walked off. I imagine many people may pay the lesser amount and leave. I unbagged my items and re rang them again. Thought about not bothering to write a review, but with the way stores are closing and people are shopping online, I thought if I wrote, someone may fix this. I have personally not had a negative experience at Michael's. The staff is quick at ringing customers up at the cash register as well as when you click a "call for assistance" button in the store. I wanted to buy some spray paint that is locked up and staff member came to help me within 60 seconds of clicking the button. Michaels always has sales on seasonal items before the season over which is awesome!! I scored $130 worth of "fall decor" for under $50 this past weekend. They also always have 40-50% off coupons on their website. Michaels may seem pricey at first but I personally never shop without a coupon, which they ALWAYS have available. read more

I went into this Michael's with two items to return. I noticed that there was only one cashier and a line 5 people deep, but luckily there was an employee behind the service desk. As I stood waiting to talk with her I realized the people she was talking to were not customers but two other employees, and the three of them were bitching about a customer who had wanted to make a return and how annoying she had been. Then one of them (Nancy) noticed me standing there, turns around and says to me "you're making a return? you can get in the regular line." seriously? did you really just suggest that your conversation is so much more critical than helping a customer that I should go wait in another line? that's very interesting Nancy, thanks. Meanwhile the other two don't even look at me, including the one manning the service desk. what the hell?! I walk over to the one open register and wait for about 15 minutes while this one cashier works through all the people ahead of me. And I kid you not, when I was one person away from freedom, Nancy noticed that there were 3 people behind me, opened up a register and told the woman BEHIND ME to come over. Frankly I think all three of those employees should be fired for wasting Michael's and my time while getting paid. I'm sure they make crap pay but that is no excuse for flagrant laziness. Not a bad craft store IF you can find parking!! They aren't very big, but they do carry pretty much all the craft items that most ladies would gravitate towards. (But honestly the men have a bigger selection of model kits, science projects and RC items over at Hobby Lobby) They also have great coupons that, if you can abide by the extremely tricky fine print terms and conditions and restrictions, offer some great deals on singular items. Occasionally they also offer a coupon good for a percentage off of your whole order, but like I said their coupons are tricky and restrict a lot of what you can get. Be alert when deciding what item to apply your coupon to. After being burned a couple times I've even gone so far as to buy my singular pricier item with my coupon in one transaction and then buy all my other stuff in a separate transaction, that way my coupon was applied to the item *I* chose, not a lower dollar item that the cashier chose to make the discounted item. Also, another tip to maximize your Michael's bang for the buck is to hit up their store a few days before a major holiday and right after that holiday so you can pick up inexpensive items for the holiday on sale, and even more holiday items on the cheap to put away for next year. But yeah, back to the parking... The parking at this whole shopping center sucks butt. Avoid it all all costs around the major shopping days like Black Friday or Christmas Eve! This Michael's location is so inconsistent...Not to mention that it's located in one of the worst shopping centers in Phoenix. Just trying to park and get into the store can be a headache if you hit it at the wrong time of day. Shelves always seem to be empty...displays are a mess and aisles are difficult to shop. Good luck finding an employee to help you and if you do, don't bank on them being friendly. In all fairness, I can't say that *all* employees are miserable, I did have a friendly cashier once, but the majority of the time, customer service is not a priority at this location. Chances are I won't be returning after my last visit. I can just as easily go to the Michael's up the street from my house or venture over to Paradise Valley where I have the choice between Michael's and Hobby Lobby. read more

I don't know what I am doing writing a review for this store that no one (at least no one with any ability to change anything there) will ever read. Nevertheless, I came, I saw, I left empty handed as nothing (in truth, not one little thing) in my entire basket rang up as it was marked on the shelf. I don't know if it is incompetence, stupidity, or a laudable "I don't give a flying f" attitude that makes this the worst Michaels in the area, but I am not sure I have the time to devote to studying the subject matter. I think my favorite part of today's experience was when the third item rang up wrong and I told the cashier, she said "oh" and looked blindly like a deer in headlights. No "I'll check on that for you," no "do you still want it," just a blank stare. Sadly, I'll be back next week because this is the closest one when I am out and about. I have visited this location several times over the years using their 50% off coupons (or competitive coupons from Joann, Hobby Lobby) when I needed to get something to start or complete my craft projects. I especially like visiting around Christmastime and seeing their rubber stamps and other scrapbooking supplies or trinkets that I could use. I also like their "Recollections" (remember that store, Recollections, that Michaels opened before ironically putting it out of business? Huge mistake!) stamps and some of their Halloween and Christmas "Lemax" lines. Since this business is a corporate, they tend to have less-knowledgable associates who usually work there for extra money, so this is the type of store for more experienced crafters like myself who know our stuff and show up at this type of store with a list, rather than meander around looking for something to buy, especially if having a coupon on hand. Therefore, this is not the type of store where retailer and customer get to know each other- far from it. Since they sell numerous various craft-related items of all types and sizes, looking for a specific 'part' for your craft project may become a challenge to find so you hope to flag down a sales associate or a store manager who knows what you're looking for exactly. i.e. in my case: looking for a mini wood disc set to hot-glue overlapsed mini picture frames onto a 12" wreath. Only a manager knew where to find it exactly, even while the associate on hand tried her best to find it. Other than that, if you're a regular and know your stuff, you should be able to breeze through. The Michaels near MetroCenter is bigger and have wider inventory. You may also need to stop by other Michaels all over the valley and may be surprised they carried what some others did not. I also had great customer service in the past when there was a limited edition Christmas mini clear rubber stamps sets (the popular $1 ones) that I had been on the lookout for, and this Michaels found the sets at a Michaels in Flagstaff and their store manager drove it down to Phoenix(!) for me to purchase, as well as a sales associate from the MetroCenter location, who picked up a different limited edition of those mini stamp sets and drove to this Michaels for me. Yes, double wow. I also appreciate when a sales associate voluntarily used a coupon for me without me having to request if they had any extras or pull out from my wallet myself (or use a smart phone)- this happened one time when I exchanged hot glue sticks for the correct size (yes, for this wreath project I mentioned earlier) and when the correct item cost a little more (due to more sticks), the associate went ahead on his own to pick out the coupon to scan to bring the total down to under a dollar. There was even a couple associates who assisted me over the phone looking for or looking out for specific SKU items. Yes, more wow ;) Other than my warm fuzzy experiences, other visits can be a hit-or-miss whenever it came to finding an item or successfully getting an associate to assist or find said item. The positives have outweighed the negatives since it's usually cheaper to shop locally (WITH coupons) than to order all that I've purchased online (plus you get to enjoy & play with your purchases upon returning home, right?), Wait, there was this certain kooky older woman with short helmet black hair who worked there awhile who got confused and suspected something when I used the checkout at the framing dept and walked out with a Michaels bag- I guess the framing dept was supposed to only check out frames purchases only and not other unrelated items (duh). which I did not know about. Hey, there was no line there and the associate looked bored and needed business. At least, I appreciate that this kook in question did not approach me about it and left me at that ;) This location is usually clean and orderly at best, with a few associates and a manager walking around for you to flag down (yet, only a couple times in history was I asked if I needed anything). This Michaels is the foundation of my theory that some chains stay in business despite the reality that shoppers loathe them, because there's no adequate substitute. It's the only source of craft supplies that's handy while running errands in central Phoenix, and it's near one of the movie theaters that serves real food, so I shop here occasionally, and I always leave crabby. Every section is tiny and understocked. If something at another Michaels catches your eye, but you postpone buying it, and you figure, oh, you'll pick it up at this one because you're here... no, you won't. Wood trim, wood embellishments, specific acrylic paint colors, specific scrapbook paper designs, the edgiest floral items... forget it. This Michaels will not carry that. The staff will explain, with varying levels of chagrin, that "this is the smallest Michaels in the region." That much is obvious. It's so small that it's impossible for two carts to pass in most aisles. The major reason to set foot in this store is that you're desperate for tacky glue and can't face the chaos of Walmart. It has so far not found an excuse to stop carrying tacky glue. There was also a moment of hope when the chain introduced Martha Stewart acrylic paints, which are at least interesting colors. But I'd really like to know whose bright idea it was that, chain-wide, acrylic paints should now be displayed entirely below knee level. Let me give you a hint, gentlemen: the tiny bottles of exotic colors are not bought by children. Nor is there a gigantic acrylic-painting movement among Munchkins. Your acrylic paint buyers are adults, which means we're mostly over 5 feet tall, and depending how the day went and how high of heels we're wearing, our urge to indulge in a series of deep knee bends can vary. A lot. But it's rarely a matter of: "oh great! I'm going to Michaels so I can skip the squats at the gym!" read more

So excited to hear that this Michael's is soon to be renovated!! This place is pretty much a clutter of old, out of date supplies that are usually not in the right place and nearly destroyed. I find it incredibly difficult to find anything here, and if I do, it usually has something wrong with it. I love Michael's as a concept, and I grew up coming to this place with my mother so we could do various arts and crafts for fun. Hell, I still come as a grown up so I can do arts and crafts for fun! I asked one of the employees where I could find clothes pins and he dropped all of the stuff he was holding on the floor and huffed and puffed to a new section.
