I received a hand painted one of kind artwork from Kenya. I picked out my framework with manager/framer Gina. I never received a call back, when I went 3 weeks later I received work with coffee stains. Buckled artwork, and poorly constructed framework with some kind glue that ruined the art. $200 for shit job. There is no where to put a negative review. I love michaels. All I wanted was a calligraphy pen and all they had was a tiny little section with a few cheap crappy sets all from Speedball brand, I'm guessing corporate made a deal with speedball. While I have a huge admiration for art and those who can produce it, my own artistic abilities run to the "crafts" part of "arts and crafts." In fact, my inner rule of modern art is not whether or not I understand it but whether or not I can produce it (if I can, it ceases for me to be "art"). My homeschooling friend kidnapped me on an errand with her to find watercolors for her kids, and I happily browsed the aisles. Not needing any craft supplies, the frugal gal in me appreciated the Thank You cards we found for $1 for a 10 pack. My friend found what she needed, as well. An extremely helpful young man was stocking shelves; he patiently explaining the difference between more professional brushes and what was fine for "student quality", what supplies were essential and what could be skipped, the type of paper that would work (tip on newsprint would be fine for student), and even the coupon system. This is a really big Michael's and its more open inside than other locations I have been to. I was specifically looking for white and dark pink faux cherry blossoms. I had to do some searching through the store but I found them. There are so many flowers available here you don't know where to start if you didn't know exactly what you were looking for. Just came back from Michaels and don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. I went today with my mom to get the Warriors championship newspaper in the custom frame for the weekend sale. The employee whom was an elderly man had a very poor attitude from the start. I wanted to get a price quote to see how much it would be and his tone and the way he talked wasn't acceptable. I asked the other elderly man what the size of the Warriors frame was and he responded with there's a tape measure go measure it yourself. How can I measure a frame that you're hanging well above door height if not higher? The employees' customer service was poor to say the least and their answers showed they didn't care one bit. I went previously when the Warriors won and got my frame for good price around Father's Day. I told him I got my frame there before and he said there was no way I got it there for that price. When we walked away to check the frames on sale I heard him talk to his other co worker saying we were rude. News flash, if you're going to say something bad about the customer try not to let them hear it. I'm extremely disappointed and can't recommend anyone to go here especially the frames department...avoid this place at all costs! read more

We had Cinzia's 5th birthday party here (okay, not her 5th party, but her 5th birthday... party.) You pay for use of the room, their time, and all the supplies required for the kids to make a little project you pick out beforehand. It was my understanding they took it from there. You simply supply any cake/snack, etc and be there the length of time. What could be better?! Yes. I can do this. (those who Know Me, know why I hesitate...) I'm good with MY kids, not a group of like ten other peoples' kids... so when our Michael's Party Host whipped through the craft in like 15 minutes and ended up being more uncomfortable around other peoples' kids than me I was severely disappointed. I stumbled through the remaining, umm TEN HOURS, with Jack's help, thinking of any and every kids game I could... So, all the kiddies made a little art project, smushed the cutest cupcakes I could ever think of into their sweet faces, and seemed to have a good time. I just had my daughter's 8th birthday party at Michael's and I couldn't be happier. Melissa E. was the host and she did a fantastic job. We tie-dyed t-shirts and did some face painting, every one of the 8 kids loved it. The 2 hour time frame was perfect, we had just enough time to do everything, eat snacks, cake, and even open presents. How the party goes: you choose a craft, you can do anything from rainbow loom crafts, painting, beading, clay, but I think the tie-dye was the best choice. The shirt also doubled as a favor for our guests. The party was $50, plus $25 for face painting, and you purchase the craft items. They allow pretty much any kind of decorations, food and drinks. We were able to get there half an hour early and decorate (I suggest calling and asking if they have any classes before your party so you can get there early and decorate). We had kids from ages 2-8, the younger ones needed some help, but still had fun. The staff is really great at suggesting crafts if you can't figure out what to do, I highly recommend talking to Melissa E., she is just fantastic at pretty much all crafts, she's very artsy and creative. Another lovely girl named Melissa helped bring in a few more chairs when we needed them. Melissa E even helped us clean up and helped us pack up our car at the end. :) read more

As far as the contents of the store, they sell pretty much the same thing any Michael's sells. Service, while friendly, was far from remarkable, so I'll withhold that 5th star. BUT I have been here several times over the last month (art committee @ work) and I am telling you, if I have to go back again I am going to freak out! It is a total mess and the lines are UNREAL!!! They really need to work that out, I saw several people walk up to the line, see the length and time commitment and just leave w/o making a purchase. This Michaels is extremely cluttered and has no organization to it whatsoever. I came in and found exactly what I was looking for which is why I am giving one star but the customer service was a nightmare. As I approached the cash register a man in his 50's who was trying to do the whole Guy Fieri wannabe thing with a Hawaiian shirt, bleached hair and earrings in both ears was waiting for me. I said hello and laid all my stuff on the counter. He said "Do you want a bag for 10 cents?" I said no (I only had two small items). He said very sarcastically "Well I guess you just want to carry it then huh?" and scoffed. I was really taken aback so I pointed at my purse and said "Well actually look at my purse, it's huge and I can fit my laptop in here so why would I need to buy a bag?" I thought that was going to shut him up but it didn't. As he rang up my stuff he looked up at the screen and goes "Oh wow! You have expensive taste! I can't believe you are paying that much for this!?" and I just stood there in disbelief that an employee of a company would say such a thing to a customer. Aren't they supposed to try and sell more? And who cares what I was paying? If I have the money to spend on something I want or like then why should I be judged for it? So I just nicely responded "Well, this is exactly what I was looking for and something that I need and the price doesn't matter to me." He said "Oh what, is this for a costume or something?" and I said "Actually, yes it is." (and yes, it really is cause I'm making something.) And he goes "It's a little early for Halloween don't you think?" I just laughed and grabbed my stuff and walked out. What an ass. I feel very sorry for this man. He's middle aged and working at a Michaels store probably only making minimum wage and he really does want to look like Guy Fieri - must be going through a mid life crisis or something to want to look like that! His attitude towards people is so hateful and disturbing. Just because he's unhappy with his life doesn't mean he needs to take it out on others and scoff at them and make fun of them for what they buy. I went into Michaels in search of an abundance of red rhinestones but, did not have such luck. I asked for some help and there was Debbie. She suggested using iron on fabric. You may be wondering why I gave them a low rating, and its simple. The cashier didn't catch that the items they were ringing up, were items that were marked down. So long behold I come here looking at my receipt noticing that my sister and I were charged the full price. I should of caught it sooner, but you never should have to correct the work that should have been done correctly in the first place. So the next day we have to come by and get our refund. Michael's can be okay for the most basic of framing needs. It's literally the only reason I'd ever come here-I'm not the least bit crafty, so I can't speak to the retail aspect here. A couple of years ago, I had them work on specialized matting for me-a triple opening along with a custom frame. Twice it came back incorrect and then they lost my pictures. A month later they were found and the end result came out fine. However I was so disgusted by the experience that I stayed away until recently. There were two giclee prints that were an odd size that needed custom framing. Because there was no matting needed and just a simple frame, I gave Michael's another shot. Overall, it was a decent experience-they had 60% off some custom frames and I felt the work got done at a fair price and delivered on time. Nothing spectacular as far as any creativity or customer service from the framers themselves. If you know what you want, what you like and understand the littlest bit about framing, you'll do fine at Michael's. By the way, don't ever pay full price-if they don't have a sale or coupon on the day you go in, just wait-they will soon! read more

But the customer service is non-existent and it takes about a year to get through the line system. The employees all look exhausted and annoyed that you are there. The bathrooms are disgusting. I hadn't been to a Michaels in forever. Probably because I've been getting my art supplies from the campus bookstore for the past few years. And I'm never going back to this location. I really wanted to get modge podge and brushes for this project I wanted to do and I ended up picking up some extra ribbon too. First off, the whole store looks like it's under construction, everything isn't organized and price labels are missing and stuff. But when I was paying for my stuff the cashier rang up the modge podge and it was $8.99 even though I'd seen the label and it said $7.99. I told the cashier what I'd seen and she gave me the HUGEST ATTITUDE EVER. Basically saying that was what the price was and what I'd seen was wrong and that they're in the middle of relabelling everything so $8.99 was the price. BUYER BEWARE! I really wanted to talk to the manager since the cashier was being a major biatch. But I was in a rush and it was only $1, but still that's messed up because I SAW the price with my own eyes. She didn't even offer to go back and check to make sure nor honor the tag for $1 cheaper. I know it's "just a dollar" but in this economy I need every $1 I can save. I usually go to this store if I am not out in concord to go to Beverlys. I went there to buy a flat canvas. Apparently, they don't sell them anymore. Why? I have no idea cause there were no employees around to even ask. Now they only sell the stretched raised canvases. Stupid. The flat ones are so much easier to handle! When I just decided I'll get a stretched one we went to go purchase. They had moved all the counters around. It was like 4pm on a Sunday and there was only 1 cashier. And she was taking forever! I was probably in line for about 10 minutes. After about 5 minutes another cashier comes up. I finally get up and it was the girl that was taking forever. She was nice and everything but still. Waiting that long to buy a canvas I really didn't want in the first place. I will probably come here again for paints and brushes but probably not again if they only have one cashier during a busy time. read more

When I go into a craft supply store, I already know I'm going to have a hard time finding what I need. Even in the smallest of stores I feel completely out my element and buying something as simple as a canvas has the potential of turning into a 20 minute odyssey. All my trips to this Michaels have certainly adhered to this rule of thumb. Don't get me wrong, I like Michaels. Out of all the craft supply stores I've been to, it's my favorite. I just have to accept that if I have a time constraint, my trip to Michaels is going to have to wait, because who knows how long it could take. I once came here to buy just a simple white paint pen; it took me 5 minutes to locate the paint pens case, and then an additional 20 minutes for someone to finally come open it up for me. The one problem with this store is they are severly under staffed. I don't even attempt to find someone who can help me find something, because chances are I'll find what I'm looking for before I find them. The nice thing about Michaels is that as far as craft stores go, they are relatively inexpensive. I bought 6 different colors of paint and 2 nice paint brushes for about 20 bucks, which I know doesn't sound amazing, but I could handle it on my budget, so it must be okay. Ultimately, the selection is the best part of Michaels. Looking for a craft? They probably have it. And that is why I go here. read more

I come to this Michael's because I know where everything is and it is close to home but I hate the fact that there is ALWAYS a line. No matter what day it is, what time of day it is... LINE! There is always only one or two cashiers and they need more. Also, never come on a Saturday because they have Kid craft days and its just so hectic in here!! This review is only for the framing department. I've only had positive experiences in the rest of this store. Even when lines are long, they hustle. After shelling out too much $ for two 20 by 20 original prints, I was relieved to see a 40% off advert for framing. After a few weeks I picked up the work to find the prints were bowing out inside the frames, so I requested that this be rectified. They did such a poor job and weren't easy to communicate with. Two years later, every time I pass these framed prints I wince. They are wrinkled, coming off the backing and warped. I'll not trust Michael's for framing again. Unfortunately the prints are too damaged to bother reframing which is a poor reflection on a place that advertises framing so often. read more

I use it when I need it for "this and that" . This week I was taking up knitting (no snickering), a few months ago I needed to make the floral arrangements for my daughter's bridal shower and I found all the needs for decorating the vases. So yes theres a huge selection, though at times it can be a bit overwhelming and distracting. And if you are artsty fartsy like me you are easily distracted into multiple supplies for projects you will never complete. So I don't make weekly visits, but in a pinch when I'm say in a "crafty mood" and "no" I'm not wearing a teddybear sweatshirt....I will stop in and usually find everything I need to complete the task, whatever I'm creating at the moment. Next week I'm thinking of spray painting the old cheap ugly ass chandelier all white and making it look chic! Okay we'll see. read more

I needed a pad of Tracing Paper that we used to call 'onion skin' in the old daze so headed to the Michael's not far from me in Pleasant Hill, CA. Searched the tablet shelf where I found all sorts of drawing paper tablets, even one with black pages but not tracing paper. Approached employee 'Cassandra' who at first searched the tablet shelf & elsewhere to no avail however I appreciated her effort. After about 20 minutes in the store I thought I was out of luck for the day as it was late, around 7:15 or so when Cassandra, who hadn't stopped looking found a pad of 50 Strathmore Tracing Paper sheets hidden under others not Tracing Paper! Not only that, she turned me on to a 50% off 1 item online coupon that halved the tablet from $18.99 to half-price. I honestly was thinking twice about buying it for $18.99 & was about to hit Amazon on my phone guessing it was a lot less, even on Prime. While Strathmore is great paper I'd have taken overnight delivery on another brand. Of couse I bought the 50 sheet pad at Michael's due to Cassandra's diligence. Give that lady a raise! read more

I've been buying from you for over 15 years. I buy your brand of pearls called Bead Landing. It seems that very recently you changed the way they are made and the gage of the hole is a lot larger. I make Christmas ornaments and now have a ton of pearls that fall right through their straight pins. I've checked two locations and the gage is all the same. Larger. We go to Michaels pretty frequently for various arts and crafts. It's a fairly small store with a little bit of everything. Parking is a real pain on the weekends so watch when you try to come. We're not super serious about any one type of craft so we can usually find what we need. I could imagine it's not as good for those looking for a wide variety of items. As has been mentioned in other reviews you won't find a lot of staff roaming the isles to provide help and the checkout lines are usually slow and long. But if you don't want to go to Hobby Lobby (or need something on a Sunday) it generally will do. read more

Michaels has always been one of my least favorite places-- you can never find an employee when you need one and their bathroom is DISGUSTING, but today took the cake. We attended their monster slime class with 3 kids today--8&9 years old. We got there as they were decorating the jars. There was a few seats open so the girls slipped in and sat down quietly at the table and started coloring on the lids of their jars as other kids jumped around the room asking for assistance hot gluing things to theirs. The host very rudely told them to leave. Our girls politely left as instructed and stood outside the room with us, watching through the window. The class went o for at least 25+ minutes while we stood outside. I'm still unsure why she didn't let our kids quietly join what was already going on, since they weren't requesting any supplies or assistance from her. When the old group finally is done, and the kids start leaving, she rudely yells out the door at some other children to get to the side. she then shoves the clipboard out the door and says for the parents to fill it out, and gruffly tells the kids "don't come in yet." She goes inside and checks her phone and says that she's behind schedule and there's not much time left, so she tells the kids to come in in a single file line and sit down at chairs in the order they were standing in. But there were 3 groups of kids waiting, and they were al jumbled by that time because she made them move and kids weren't standing next to who they wanted to sit by. None of the kids complained but just rearranged themselves seamlessly. She gave a snotty "well Ok then" and rolled her eyes. She then tells the kids to clean the table and throw away the sticker scraps from the last group of kids. A few of the kids did, and I could see my special needs daughter not understanding what she was being asked to do. She looked at her with all the scraps in front of her and sarcastically said "see all the scraps right there? I said to throw them away like this" and scooped some up and rolled her eyes again. I went in and i cleaned them off for my daughter. She continues to have an attitude, grabbing things out of our kids hands and being all around rude. All three of our kids slumped down in their chairs. One wanted to leave. Once she heard two of the parents comment to each other that she was being rude, she toned it down a little, but she clearly was annoyed. She let several more kids join the class way past the point of the class where our kids tried to join and she kicked them out. Severely disappointed in how she was treating these kids today. read more

If only my experience was recorded, I believe the company could use it for training And quality purposes. Came in to the store to purchase Halloween Village Decor. There was no one on the sales floor, so I got a cashier, who helped me, cause I wanted to purchase the display. Cashier got the Store Mgr to help. Didn't have numbers for the display, so another item was used in lieu. Get up to the front & I believe the cashier's name was Adaline (old lady with rotten front teeth & a bad attitude) waved me over. I wanted to make sure the new price was close to the price of what I was purchasing. Adaline never greeted me, she instead gave me a WTF look & shrugged her arms. Not only did she refused to listen to me about the adjustment, but she doubted the other two employees final say, she refused to listen to me about the products I was/was not purchasing, she refused to start the transaction over again when I asked her to, cause she was confused & frazzled- from not listening to me in the first place, she kept overcharging me for things becasue she kept scanning products multiple times while saying she was going to give me a better deal, & refused to get assistance from any other team members. Then Adaline refused to honor my coupon saying it was expired, when it clearly was not (a front lane manager, who had come over to help even told her it was valid). NO MATTER WHAT I SAID, SHE WOULD NOT LISTEN TO WHAT I HAD TO SAY. SHE WAS A TOTAL KNOW IT ALL. The worst part was that she was harshly tossing MY fragile purchase into my bag & the go back basket, breaking one of them. I even blurted out, don't break them! All of this attitude was right in front of another team member. I really hope she is spoken with. read more
