Drowning. These employees are drowning. I've been coming to this location for years and it's pathetic at this point. There will be customers needing assistants everywhere, broken items in the shelves, and the employees are stuck with a line pilling up. Eva was not only incredible but was doing everything they could. Management is a joke, whoever is suppose to be leading this store is failing. Hire more people, seeing only 3 employees is embarrassing for Michaels as a company. Michael's stores have started receiving more specific supplies that requires employees assistance. And there is none. There should be 5 employees at all times in a craft store that holds so many different unique categories. Disappointing. read more

I'll start this review with the fact that I enjoy shopping at Michaels. I'm a teacher and frequently find myself there getting supplies, I also love the teacher discount. Last week, I placed an online order here for items that were listed as in stock on the website and planned to pick them up the next day. Well, I woke up the next day to my order being cancelled, which sucks but it was ok, I thought about going to another location to get these items. But, on the website, it still said these products were available, so I took a chance and drove over to the Redwood Plaza location. When I arrived, I was able to quickly find these products and check out. Unfortunately, the price was different because I was using an online shopping code, but still I did indeed buy these in store after all. I'm leaving this review because as a long time shopper, I'm feeling confused about why this order was cancelled in the first place. I haven't ever used this feature before and it just feels icky that I was able to get the products in store and without the discount I had hoped for online. read more

I come to Michaels a couple of times a year for projects, gift wrapping, framing, decoration, or costume needs. If I did more arts and crafts, I would visit more often! I am so glad to have a store that's open on weeknights until 9PM and opens early (9AM or 10AM) on weekends for us working folk! Also appreciate the ample space in the parking lot, and its neighboring Ross, UPS, and sushi joint in case you need to run multiple errands. My recent visit was to pickup an online order, which was fulfilled very quickly. They have a self-checkout and pickup rack to the right as you enter. It's very efficient. The staff were busy restocking and they make great use of their floorspace. The holiday decor is so tempting -- I shall return!! read more

Does the person at the register need to be made famous? She called me a stupid b*tch but was betting on the music in my headphones being too loud for me to hear her. Either way, the way she addressed me was over the top aggressive. How am I stupid for kindly waiting for a customer in front of me to finish a purchase with you? How am I a b*tch for following your directive to use the self-checkout because you don't want to help me? This is my first visit to this store but I'll be back. 0/10 don't recommend coming here. Go anywhere else except this Michaels. Reading reviews and seeing the manager Kelly has given multiple customers issues. The store needs to revisit who they put in the manager positions. I ordered 3 umbrellas and never got an update on when to pick up after about 3/4 hours. I call and Kelly says they just canceled. She said they didn't have any even when the website says there are 17 available. As manager you should know this and not wait for the customer to reach out after several hours of not hearing any updates. She was rude and had a nasty attitude. Few options outside the standard paints, yarns, plastic products and they tend to be garbage, poorly produced and fall apart quickly. Every single visit has been marked by lack of products (what craft shop doesn't sell rug hooks??) and lack of workers to answer questions. The workers are understaffed and as a result, rude and slow and they show they just don't care. This is why, people, you should have been supporting your local small business. Now we get only what they give and they give garbage. There are so few mom and pop businesses left. Just a bummer. read more

I was scrolling through the Michaels app on my phone to try to find some stuff that I need to buy and saw the Chunky Hand Knit Pillow class, so I decided to sign up and go there after work to let traffic die down. Alycia made the class super fun and I learned a lot from making the hand knit pillows that I ended up making 2 of them during the class. It gave me motivation into learning and experiencing more yarn/needlework & crafting stuff. I even made more pillows when I got home! yesterday we received great customer service from management and staff assisting us with party balloons. we woke up today to go to the party and the balloons had deflated. staff had told us they may not last through the night. they said come back if that's the case. the store opens at ten am and we needed to be at the party at 10:45. again management and staff jumped on it and we made the party on time with fresh balloons in hand. this is the type of customer service that keeps people coming back again and again. read more

I had a package to pick up from their UPS locker today. I got a UPS notification that it was there so I went to pick it up. It was not there but other people's packages from that drop off were present. I spoke with the manager Kelly and she was extremely unhelpful and weird about it. I called UPS and they gave me the persons name that signed for the packages. I went back to Kelly and she said that person worked at the San Mateo store. I called that store and the manger there was extremely helpful and took my info in case the package arrived late to their store. I called the Redwood City store again to tell them it was not at San Mateo. Again Kelly was unhelpful and short with me. It took me saying it was suspicious that someone at her store signed for my package under the wrong name to say she would go to the back and look again. 5 minutes later she gets back on the phone and found my package on the loading dock. I find it very weird that she did not take my info to help me find my package like the San Mateo store manager did. Her excuse was it happens all the time at their store but I've never had a package scanned and signed for by UPS that was not at the location provided. If you have ever had a UPS package "go missing" at this store I would investigate further and I would not be surprised if Kelly was involved. I don't know how she is a store manager with her lack of customer service skills. Also there is a UPS store 2 doors down. This Michaels should be suspended from receiving packages if this is a common occurrence and it should just go to the UPS store. read more

I come here from time to time because its close, but it isn't my favorite branch to visit. The moment I walk in, it feels like theres a lot if clutter. I think it's brilliant that they put certain items in front but its a little overwhelming once you walk in. Like most Michael's stores, it is easy to get lost and accidentally find your way. There were many items out if place and a lot of items not available. However, the cashier (Gianna) at front was nice, and patient when I was making my purchase. I know that this place may have a lower ceiling and that could be it but I still feel smothered with things rather than making my way through the aisles. read more

Went making a return Thursday and one of the item was missing a tag so the cashier called in a supervisor. Kelli came, without any greetings or eye contact, looked at the item and bluntly said "not to remove the tag unless you're keeping". I replied telling her that how it was originally bought. I love me some crafting! Michaels is great, they always have sales and the staff at this location is super friendly. The reason I market it down a star is because generally the bathrooms aren't working, and are extremely dirty. Having two young children walking into a dirty bathroom trying to change a diaper is disgusting. BUT if you don't need to go to the bathroom the store itself is very clean and organized. The framing department is amazing, and I've taken all of our photos there to be framed. Overall I love coming here! It's also tucked into a cute little shopping center, so I'll grab lunch, at a restaurant next door! read more

I love going to Michaels in Redwood City! It's huge and you can find most anything. I'm a novice knitter so I usually go for needles or little supplies. I try to not hoard yarn so I haven't bought much. Really trying to finish a project before starting a new one! I love that they often have coupons. Note that u can use only one coupon per day. THE most horrible experience I want to cry.. ..asked a question about a loom.. person number one.. "oh I have no clue" went to the front.. first asked if I could use their restroom.. The location has a great selection of supplies, although it's always going to be big named ones. Cheap seasonal decorations are plentiful. Don't expect any help, though; the store has almost no staff and checkout is self-help. If any supplies are locked up (paint pens, spray paint) the buttons to call somebody are never responded to. If you need something in a pinch then this is fine, otherwise save yourself the trouble and shop on Amazon, it all comes from overseas anyway. read more

I've come here a few times for for leather crafting supplies. It's decent especially if you're a beginner like me. I did buy an eyelet/rivet setter kit and it worked out pretty well. I also bought some 1/2 inch leather strips that also worked out well for my beginner project, as well as some 1/2 inch buckles that fit quite nicely. Michaels always has coupons on their website so don't forget to check it out. You don't even need a membership to use the coupon actually. If not, Google "Michael's discounts" - Parking is easy peasy - WHAT? Free?! No, not really, but you're able to enter and win a basket of candles. Why? No occasion, but I haven't seen any other Michael's do promotional stuff to lure customers into their rewards/email program. I've been going to this Michaels for years now; mostly for various arts & crafts supplies required by my kids. I go because they usually have everything we need; or almost everything. It's just a matter of FINDING it. Which is why I almost dread going. Even locating a few simple items can take an eternity; and I end up wandering the halls like a zombie in search of fresh brains. (Candle making supplies: are those with crafts, with hobbies or maybe art supplies? Would they perhaps be near the birthday candles ...or near the larger table candles? How about Modge Podge - is that with the glue or is it in painting supplies... or maybe scrapbooking?) If I could just ask someone, that would be fantastic (Note: I have no problem asking for directions, even while driving). But Michaels is almost always understaffed; so there is usually nobody on the floor to help out. Consequently my zombie shuffle continues until I find an item by chance (or on my 3rd guess). Note: If a staff member does appear in the aisles, they are typically mobbed with requests from other shoppers in the same boat as me. So ...take a number. On my most recent trip, I had only two items to purchase: A replacement container of modge podge (turns out It was with the glue) and some small, thin 4x4 extra-thin, practice painting canvases for my daughter's school art project. The first item was reasonably quick, but the mini canvases were not in the painting canvas section. And another 10 minute search yielded nothing. So I went up front, waited in line and asked the cashier to help me (no doubt pissing-off the one person in line behind me). She left the register to help me find them; turns out they were partially hidden, and one aisle away from the painting canvas section (cuz that makes sense). At least she was friendly. Michaels management could run this place so much better, but they don't have to, since they are the only game in town (for these kinds of supplies). They do have a great selection though, so I'm giving them an average rating. It simply requires great patience (and time) to shop here. And maybe a zombie costume. read more

I grew up in this arts & crafts store.... ooh, nostalgia! This store has unlimited possibilities for art projects even for the not-so-craft-savvy. I tried every type of craft from friendship bracelets to beading to lanyards to puffy paints to decoupage to stained glass windows to much more... I've always been able to walk in here and pick out something fun to try! They always carried what I needed for school projects too! I've also purchased many frames and posters here (somewhat random) and lots of pogs (very random!). Michaels also carries a wide selection of candy, helium balloons, holiday decorations, and much more. They also offer classes that one can enroll for but I have never tried them. I have always opted for the do-it-yourself approach. This store is not fancy but it is FUN! I've been going for years and will definitely keep coming back! Very reasonable prices too :) read more

It's one thing to be an old store, but this place feels like it is dying. Everything seems to be slightly disorganized and cramped and it appears kind of grimy. The worst part, however, is the employees. They always seem to be where customers aren't... Except at the cash register. Even then, I was waiting for about 10 minutes with one person in front of me for the cashier to stop chatting with the woman he was ringing up. I suppose the only reason these guys stay in business is because there aren't many other arts and crafts stores around. read more

I want to start by saying that I really do like this store and I shop here almost every week. Yesterday I went to pick up a few craft supplies, but while I was there I needed to use the restroom... And the below photos show you what I found, pretty gross. I realize that the person before me may have thrown the soiled toilet paper on the floor and Michael's employees had not yet seen it. But the Weekly Restroom Checklist (which shows when the restroom was checked for cleanliness) hanging from the back of the door was dated November 11th, the day I saw this mess was December 8th... Next, as I mentioned I shop here regularly, the last time I used the restroom, about 2 weeks ago, the faucet had water flowing out, I wiggled the handle to stop the flow, but apparently the faucet is broken and I was unable to stop the leak. Yep you guessed right, the faucet is still flowing water weeks later! Since this is clearly a problem, why wouldn't the store employees have a professional fix it? read more

I always dread my "honey-do" Michael's runs. I take biggest issue with their check out. I swear, it feels like it takes forever even if I'm next in line. (It can't always be the case that I get stuck behind the ditzy lady who starts to fill out her check after she hears the total -- "Who do I make it out to?" "What's today's date?") There has never been more than one cashier, no matter how long the line. Good thing I didn't need any assistance this evening. I overheard the cashier on the phone remarking how she was the only one left in the store. (She might as well have announced on the PA system she was ready to be robbed.) The piss duh resistance (pardon my French) on this trip though, was this really cute foam princess castle kit of which they had a pre-made sample on display. Other kits were for a pirate's ship and a knight's castle. They had plastic figures that could go along with the models. As luck would have it, they were all out of only the princess castle -- the only one that my 4 year princess would have thoroughly enjoyed building. I couldn't find it on their online store. Bummer. read more

After my first visit here the other night I was prepared to give them 4 stars. It's a really big store that is laid out pretty well and has nearly everything you could possibly need for getting your craft on. I found what I was looking for, t-shirts and iron on letters, very quickly and walked right up to the check stand. Pleasant guy rang me out and apologized for being out of large bags to put my purchases in. My second trip couldn't have been more different. I needed to exchange some stuff but they were out of what I wanted, so I spent a fair bit of time trying to find a suitable replacement, but no dice. I proceeded to the checkout to simply return my items and ran into a line of nearly 10 people running down the center of the store! I got in line and waited. After a few minutes of the line not moving and numerous calls over the loud speaker for more checkers, a guy who seemed to be a manger went to the front of the line and told us that we could line up at each individual check stand, we didn't need to form one line. Sheesh. I finally got up to the check stand and the first thing the gal (who had like one tooth btw) says is "geez, another return?" She SLOWLY starts to ring out my stuff all the while talking to another check out girl about how annoying doing returns is. Wtf? All in all it takes about 15 minutes to get my refund and as I was FINALLY leaving, I overheard the girls talking about the next customer who had no items in her hand to buy and so she was obviously there "just to get change." Ghetto! It's a bigger store than the San Mateo one but still, I don't know if I'll want to go here anymore. read more

Came on Christmas Eve for a gift emergency after someone ended giving my daughter a duplicate gift that was supposed to come from Santa! Was expecting a frazzled mess at the store, but the young lady who helped me find the exact Prisma Colors set my daughter wanted by leading me to the aisle, letting me browse and then came back to check on me. THEN, when I asked if I could use the half off coupon, she calmly led me to the front, scanned and made my purchase! Done in 5 minutes. I decided to browse further to add some art journals to the gift, had great service, and when the line got long, she promptly called for backup. I never come to this Michaels as the San Mateo location is more convenient, but so glad I did. Such a relief to get the item I needed without killing my Christmas spirit. Thank you! read more

"Did you find everything ok today?" "Sorta?" Is this a rhetorical question? I go to this Michaels only because I moved 5 minutes away and it would be absurd hating on the environment if I drove all the way up to San Mateo for the better stocked new one on ECR. I swear that every time I come here, they're missing some key component of whatever craft I felt like doing that day. I end up chasing staff around the store until I get one that stops and tells me they either a) don't know where the item is or b) sorry we don't carry it (even when it says on the website the Woodside Plaza store has it -- from more specific items like alligator clips to general items like glass terrariums). And then, it shows up right there when I come back the next time after either giving up on making said craft or finding a workaround. This place is a warzone between the narrow AND cluttered aisles, and similar items are in multiple locations of the store, so it is up to the customer to meander up all every aisle to make sure an item is not located in one of the other 293857 places they seem to be at (i.e. decorative clothespins of various varieties seem to be every 10 feet. Why don't you just put them in the same place so all your customers don't seem to be on the world's longest scavenger hunt around town? Probably another reason the foot traffic problem exists in here.). It's like the store is just vomiting items (some, super esoteric things!) -- and somehow, this vomit hasn't included the item(s) I happened to need on more than one particular trip! This place is also sadly understaffed -- I was there over an hour and I was helped by maybe 2 people, both of which I had to stalk around the store to find out they were also manning the registers. But when you do get them to stop and talk to you, they're not too helpful -- I asked if there was a restroom on one visit, and was immediately told that it was out of order. My (white) husband was skeptical and asked the same employee five minutes later, who told him they were all working except a stall in the women's room (and both were fine and occupied when I got there). Not pleased with that exchange and she clearly knew but did not want me to use their bathroom. And finally, the staff at checkout would rather hold up the monstrous line to see you fumbling with your phone using their circa-stone-age website to find the specific barcode for the coupons that can apparently only work with the specific location store. Or at least that's what I was put through. If you know that there's a coupon that works today and I showed you the coupon code, how is there no way to input this info into your system in a more streamlined way? 2 stars for the fact that the deals (and coupons when they work) are not bad, and it's the cheapest place for baskets, even cheaper than Target and Walmart but I'd assume that's true no matter which branch you go to. read more

I find myself going to this MIchael's because, at first impression, it was clean, organized, and well-stocked. I'm doing a bunch of wedding stuff DIY, so I'm basically living at this store. However, as I visited subsquent days/weeks after I noticed a couple glitches: they don't replace stock quickly, the teenage associates are apathetic (the older ones are more helpful, even that's a bit of a stretch), lines are long, and it's sometimes hard to navigate thru the aisles with all the sale stuff. They do however have good sales - look for coupons - and I do quite enjoy just wandering the aisles for craft ideas. read more

Best Michael's I've been too and I've been to a lot all up and down the Bay Area. This one is easy to find, big, clean, and has everything. Example: For Halloween I was trying to make these chocolate skeleton candy molds. I was looking tor the skeleton mold and the bright lime green candy chips, both are seasonal items. I went to 4 different Michael's before I found the items at this one and with plenty in stock. I also noticed they had a lot more selection then the one other ones. This one is farther from my home but it's worth the drive if I can locate everything I need so going to start going here from now on. read more

I love Michael's and the one I used to go to was the one in Sunnyvale but now Ive moved to Redwood and this is the closest to home. I was looking for some mud podge and some gel medium went over all the aisles and couldnt find it I went to look for someone for help and couldnt find anyone. I saw someone on the phone but I didnt want to interupt and then the guy at the register had a long line of customers so i did another lap to check for someone to help till I decided to go to the lady that was on the phone. She was still talking to someone but she let me know where to go and find what I was looking for and was very helpful. I feel that the layout of the store and the tight aisles made it hard for me to find my items. Overall it was an ok visit and im always happy to get a good deal and take advantage of the coupons that you can find online and they just scan it for you. read more

I ordered items online to pick up in store on 9/21. Their website says pick-up as soon as same day but when you order you are told to wait for an e-mail telling you your order is ready. When I had not received an e-mail I went on the online chat and was told the items were ready at the store. I drove to the store and the cashier where you were supposed to pick up the items did not even know they were supposed to be the pick-up location and had to call someone else. The second employee searched in the computer, warehouse and on the floor and finally called the online place and was told the items were sent to my home by mistake. I did not receive the first shipment for another 3 days. The 2nd item has not arrived and they refuse to credit my payment method until I receive the item and return it! If you need an item order from Amazon! Michaels does not live up to their promises! After I posted this review Michaels decided to issue a refund right way for the items I had not received so I have upped my rating to reflect this read more

I prefer this location to the San Mateo one. This store is organized and clean, plus there is ample parking. This location is well stocked and typically has what I am looking for. What I like most about this location is their staff! They are all friendly and helpful and will Often look for coupons for you to use in addition to the ones you bring in. read more
