I have to come in here with a plan or else I want to buy the entire store! On this visit, I had a plan. I'm currently putting together a project for my wife to celebrate our 10 year dating anniversary in May. I knew exactly what I wanted and was thrilled to find it on sale for 40% off! That's always a fantastic perk to Michaels. They have really good sales and if they don't, they often have great coupons too. If you don't have this app, GET IT! You want to know what is on sale and get the coupons. Plus, they often showcase some awesome projects. Trust me. Crafting can be an expensive hobby and I try to save money on it any chance I can. My only issue with this store is that there is always a line to check out and never enough cashiers. I have to be patient because it can take awhile to get thru. Thankfully, today there were only 5 people in front of me. Trust me, this was a short line! I was in and out in half an hour with exactly what I came in for and nothing more, for once! read more

Stopped in to browse some of the wedding items and to get some goodies needed for my welcome gift bags. The store was pretty slow when I got there, so that was nice. It was pretty well stocked and clean/organized too. They had lots of goodies on clearance with a price that had been slashed, so you know I was wandering around gathering for a while. The only real complaint I have is the fact that the employees were less than personable. Nobody even so much as looked my direction while I walked around. The employees who I overheard answering other customers questions were slightly on the rude side too. I got what I needed and got outta there! I would go back if I was in the area and needed a thing or two, but wouldn't bother asking anyone for any help. read more

I normally like this store but lately the staff has been less than helpful. I just got done checking out with Evan and he could care less about trying to be nice to a customer. Something was mismarked so I simply told him that. I didn't raise my voice, talk down to him, or act like a "Karen". He rolled his eyes at me and said "fine I'll just take it off" he did not even attempt to see if I was right. I don't have the energy for that type of negativity and honestly I left in tears because of his attitude about it all. I would seriously reconsider having him customer facing if I was the store manager. He clearly doesn't care. read more

Absolutely the worst store ever. They were added on my insracart and I decided to use them for some birthday supplies. They advertised a great sale! Key word advertised. My driver gets there and can not find any of the products I requested. I. Trying to make replacements over the phone and pick my kids up. Then I decided to contact the manager. "Zack" assured me he would find my driver and assist her since of course no other employee is helpful there. There is no sale and they DO NOT have much for selection on anything. I've loved Michael's for a very long time. They always have coupons you can use, and they'll usually give you another coupon after you've purchased your items (just make sure to have the coupon you plan to use already loaded on your phone, or printed out). The staff is friendly, but it is a tad hard to find one of them if you need help locating something. However, Michael's will usually have what I'm looking for, and their stock has grown over the years to now include planner supplies, high quality pens, and even house decor like candles, and quirky signs. They are definitely a good arts and crafts store, not as overwhelming as Hobby Lobby, but definitely not as good as Nevada Fine Arts most likely is in terms of strictly selling artist supplies. Chances are, the staff at Michael's will not know much about certain artist supplies you may be looking for. For example, one time I went to Michael's looking for palette paper, and it was something the staff member had never heard of. Nonetheless, I give them props for still having basic artist supplies like pencil sets, kneaded erasers, straight edge rulers etc. Michael's has also got a membership program, which I really like because you save a few dollars off your total, which they still apply even if you also used a coupon. Never underestimate their clearance section, too! Although it is a bit hectic to sift through, you can find some super discounted planner supplies, small bottles of paint, and cute teacher supplies like banners or certificates. I recommend going to Michael's for all your card-making/kid's poster project/graduation cap/lei making/holiday decor needs! read more

Great selection; easy to find location (just look for the WalMart beside it!) Had excellent customer service from everyone I encountered in this store! I bought two canvases and was able to download the Michaels app to my phone and use a 40% off with their coupon right then to save a lot of money! Huge fake floral selection if you're into that Still don't understand why the lightbulbs on one aisle had a smell to them?? So many questions. Can't wait to return for all my artistic needs! Here's what I like about Michaels, I can almost always find what I need without asking for assistance. I guess because I've been in there so many times. They have a pretty amazing selection. Here''s what I don't like, you can get forty percent off for one item if you have a coupon and they are very easy to get, but what if you don't know that? Then you wind up paying full price and it is very easy it is to get coupons on line and oftentimes you get one with your reciept, I'm beginning to think they should just lower their prices and treat everybody the same. If they can afford to sell everything in the store for forty percent off then they must be making tons of cash on the stuff they don't give discounts on. That's what I think anyway. read more

If I could give a NEGATIVE STAR I would!!!!!! When your sign says you close at 9p you should close at 9p NOT 8:56p! The doors were locked at 8:56p. I needed to grab 1 exacto knife blade, could've been in n out before 9p. People expect you to be open til the time it says on the sign!!!! The door was locked and an employee walked up to unlock it so a customer could leave and told me they were closed. I went to my car and called the store and asked if I could please grab 1 exacto knife since there's still a couple mins before closing and she was EXTREMELY RUDE and hung up on me! read more

Michael's is the definitely the Walmart of Crafts, as Jenn G. said in her review. It's not the BEST craft store there is, but they have a good selection of things at (mostly) decent prices. Chances are, that supply you just ran out of will be here. The best thing about Michael's is that it is HERE. It's convenient and available. If I want fancy yarn, I do not go here, I go to Jimmy Beans (and pay the price, gladly). But if I want a needle or some cheaper acrylic (for those non-knitting friends who don't care about fancy expensive yearns) or a craft for the kids to work on then this is a no-brainer. This is a pretty nice location, the staff is friendly and the shelves are well stocked. I'm always up for a trip to Michael's! read more

I went into Michaels to find crafting supplies for a large Halloween gathering that I am throwing for my work and I was so pleasantly surprised at the amount and variety of inventory that they had. Needless to say, I went a little overboard by buying one of just about everything in stock.. Luckily the staff was kind enough to joke around with me while I awkwardly shuffled the items to the check out stand for a solid 45 minutes. Jennifer, the cashier was great and cracked jokes with me the whole time, Mounet the CEM helped us a lot with tag-less items and register issues, and Sherri was so kind to give me an extra 15% off coupon, bringing my grand total down quite a bit! These ladies were all so helpful, funny and accommodating - seek them out for assistance and get them well-deserved recognition!! read more

Warning to fellow customers, this store will not offer you the lowest price and clearly make an effort so that you can't access better prices even though they are available online. I'm highly disappointed in this store. After claiming to always offer the lowest price (which they have posted on the wall of the store), they won't even price match their own online store...but wait, there's more! On top of not price matching, they also removed their inventory so you can't order it online and have it shipped to the store. This is just bad business and poor management. Thankfully there's another store near me that does provide the discount...just sad to see that Michaels doesn't provide the same kind of service in all its stores. This is my go to place for art supplies, framing and items for craft projects. I've tried many other places in town but none of them have the complete selection of items in stock that I find at Michaels. They also have a bright clean atmosphere that I appreciate. Staff seems to know where all the items are located and if they don't know precisely they will help you look. I am currently waiting for completion of a framing job that I left Jamie recently. I can hardly wait to see how the job turns out. He usually does excellent work for me. I will try to post the last piece he handled for me with this review. read more

This store has the worst customer service, they don't even make an effort. If they're out of something that you order for curbside pickup, they just put something else in a bag and hope you don't notice. Then when you call to get help with your order, after they transfer you to three different "managers" they tell you there's just nothing they can do. Don't waste your time here. read more

My last visit to this Michaels took place just after Halloween. The Christmas trees and the ornaments were, like, really on sale. I didn't find a tree I liked, but I picked up a LOT of ornaments for package tie-ons and some new stuff for my new apartment. I had a cart full of stuff when I went to check out. There were three or four, 20-something-year-old "workers' standing around the check-stands talking to each other. When I approached, one of them gestured towards a monitor and said "self check is open". They watched while I fumbled with trying to get items untangled, scanned and into the Christmas basket I bought which I was trying to get as much as possible in instead of a bunch of plastic bag. I only have two hands and ornaments were falling all over the place. They stood there silently and watched. When I finally got it all done and paid for, basket and a few bags, I started to push the cart toward the door and one of the "workers" flew into action placing herself in front of the cart and grabbing it with both hands. "You can't take the cart out of the store." I said "I know, I was just going to get it closer to the door so I can get everything in my hands." "I WILL TAKE THE CART." I was in utter disbelief, so in the middle of the checkout area, I got my CANE, yes, my CANE out of the cart and started trying to figure out how to get everything in the cart into one hand. The "workers" stood there and stared. I am grateful that there weren't other customers because I was humiliated enough by the these kids who were clearly amused by my plight. I don't play the disability card much because I am very able. But in this case, I clearly could have used some help. Not one of them tried to help, offered to help, or offered to help me take my purchases to the car. I have spent thousands of dollars at this store over the many years. I will NEVER step foot in this store or any other Michaels ever again. So much for supporting local economy. I will purchase all of my craft items, novelties, etc. that I used to love at Michaels from online sources. SHAME on you! read more

Stopped in the store for particular frames but couldn't find them in the aisle listed on their website. The store was busy and couldn't find anyone to ask so figured I'd order online and pickup 2 of the "4 in stock" frames figuring they may have had them in the back or something. Instead of keeping their inventory up to date they instead charge my card for a purchase of a product they didn't have and then, after the entire day has passed where I could have gone elsewhere, they send a note saying "sorry, we don't have it". I know they'll process a refund at some point but pretty poor to be charged for a product they falsely note was in stock and then waste an entire day waiting on the "come pick it up" e-mail that never came. Not impressed at all and won't be buying anything from them again. Several other more reliable options in Reno for frames. read more

I purchased some artificial ferns from this store.The product looks real and happy with the fern, On the other hand the price was not on the plant and I saw a 40% off sign posted next to them. When I got to the register I was told the plant was not 40% off, so I went back to the aisle to get the sign and an employee had just taken it down so they would not give me the discount. When I got out to my car the sales clerk had charged me a extra $21.00 for a third one which I did not buy. It was on a price check, good thing I checked my receipt. read more

I tend to do crafts in the fall and winter time, and my little heart races just to think what my next project might be! I love Michaels because its always easy in and easy out, parking is great, the prices are right, customer service is friendly, and aside from having cool crafts to do they always have very cool holiday decorations, party supplies, and they do awesome picture framing! I really like coming here. I like that they finally came up with a herding system for their check out lines. I cannot tell you how many times I've experienced hostel scrap booking women when I was just trying to get out of there. They always have a really wide selection of items to choose from. I like to get canvas whenever they are on sale. The receipt always has some sort of a coupon with it that always comes in handy when you need to make a major purchase. Why do I prefer coming here over some of the local art supply stores? Because the staff is always friendly and helpful. However, if you need specialty paper for something like printmaking, you'll have to go somewhere like Nevada Fine Arts for that. read more

I'm a crafter. I go to Michael's for scrapbooking supplies, frames, silk flowers, and random supplies for whatever random project I happen to be working on. I love that there are always coupons available! A definite plus! BUT - the store is always a mess! Stuff is all over the place, you can't tell how much things are because they're spread out over several tags. AND - they are always out of stuff! I went in today for scrapbook page sleeves. There was not a single package! And no employees to be found to see if there was another location where I could find some. They still get three stars because they attempt to have the best selection of crafting supplies in Reno (IMO) and their prices are definitely the best. I just wish they could do a little work on the sales floor to improve their in-stock and make it a little easier to find things so I can buy them! read more

I come to Michael's for one thing, the beads. They have an amazing selection of natural stones and I just love working with them. They also carry a small selection of sterling findings. The prices are better then a specialty shop, so this of course is a great advantage for one such as myself. I love that the aisles are nice and wide to permit wheelchairs. The customer service, however, makes me a bit annoyed. I can never seem to find help when I need it. I've recently started up knitting and had to call a friend of mine in TEXAS! to get any help on what needles or yarn would be best to start with. Come on, having to call another state for assistance? That's getting a bit much. I love the selection they carry. If they don't have it, it probably can't be made. But the service is just terrible. A cashier yesterday got snippy with me when I didn't her mumble something about pressing the green button on the debit machine. Speak up, be heard! And don't get all ticked at customers for your shoddy service, not our fault. Seriously though, I think that cashier was need of a break or a cookie. read more

The prices at Michael's are higher than many other stores, but you can't quite get the craft variety elsewhere. I usually only go here if I have a coupon, it is most often for my business, so I'm often in a hurry. Though it is never crowded even during the holidays (which can't be a good sign of business but not really the customer's problem) I don't think the staff has much sense of efficiency. They are always kind and helpful. But when it comes to check out, wow is it slow. I often come and buy multiples of one item, yet they have to scan every single one individually. Seriously? I'm talking sometimes 100 of the same item, still scanning one at a time. The other Michael's I go to in Sparks enters a number, scans and ta- da: done. This doesn't seem that hard. I have mentioned to a cashier in Reno this and they just tell me this is how they've always done it. Despite the lack of customers, they still manage to get a line built up at checkout. The answer to progress and improvement is not to continue doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, that's the answer to insanity. read more

I find this Micheal's has always had a staff that is a little helpful but very put off by asking questions. The store itself is fun and I eventually found everything I needed. But as an example I asked at the framing counter if they could do a frame for a round picture. The person at the counter insisted that I bring in the artwork even though I had dimensions. After we talked a bit he said he was new and would ask someone else. About 10 minutes later is was determined that Micheal's doesn't sell round frames. My issue with that is this - he would have had me run home, transport the artwork to the store only to find out they don't do that type of frame. Why didn't he just tell me the truth in the first place, or if he didn't know find out without me having to ask several times. It was clear he didn't really care about my time. Outside of this I would shop at Micheal's again, there is very little selection of craft stores in Reno so it is nice to have a larger one here, just be prepared that you will need to know what you are after before you go into the store. read more

As the Walmart of crafts, Michael's pretty much carries everything related to any sort of craft under the sun. Whether fake flowers or paint pens, iron ons or boas (don't ask), you can pretty much find it here. The problem arises when you're not familiar with the store, and are looking for one item that requires you to walk through every single aisle, because the few sales folks there are helping enthusiastic crafters (women, typically). The result? Novice crafters are easily overwhelmed by the vast inventory and run screaming out the door without making a purchase. If there's a hobby you hadn't thought to pursue, you will pursue it after seeing all the fun that can go along with it. If there's a craft you've never tried, Michael's has it. This paint Michaels isn't the greatest the workers are a little scattered the inventory is a little spread out. It's pretty easy navigate if you don't know the story yet it's a little tricky to find things like mason jars or picture frames. Those both took me a little while as I weigh walking around the store looking for help or assistance from one of the workers would come by they were always way too busy helping it never in very frantic chaotic so I ended up having to around find I need it on my own which was fine it just ended up taking longer than more than I wanted it to. It was also $180, I was hoping for $100 so it was a little bit more expensive than I had been hoping for. They do have a very large inventory of crafts throughout the store. read more

I was in Michaels in Reno when a large metal Eiffel Tower fell on my head from the highest shelf and pierced my head, only 3 inches from my eye. My head was bleeding and I walked to the front to ask for help. The store staff was not trained in what to do as they paraded me from the front to the back of the store to the bathroom until I told them I felt light headed and needed to sit down. I should not have been moved according to the paramedics. It took them 5 minutes to get me a chair. I sat there in the middle of the isle with my head bleeding. They called paramedics who cleaned up the wound and said I didn't need to go to the hospital as it was not deep enough for stitches. Michael's only took my name and birth date and nothing else. The staff member then just walked away leaving me standing there. Confused and in pain I left the store. My daughter called the store to talk to the General Manager about what happened and what they were going to do about it. The General Manager who was extremely rude tried to tell my daughter that I said I was ok and basically told them not to worry about it was fine and left the store. This was not true. I was embarrassed and confused. I was waiting for the store to do something and they did nothing. I have not received anything from Michael's by way of compensation much less an apology, I have not been given information on Michael's insurance company ... just nothing. Customer service is non-existent with this company. To top it off they have not moved the hazard so it will happen to another customer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that putting a large metal object on the edge of the top shelf is negligent. I spend a lot of money in Michael's, being retired all I do is crafting. I don't think this is how corporate wants their stores to treat their customers. At this point I wonder. read more

I'm a long time retail worker, so I like to think I'm a pretty good customer all around (since I know how crummy the job can be). This being said, the 4 employees I came in contact with today were next level rude. I'm not an artistic person at all but I'm trying to create something for my moms birthday next month and needed guidance on canvas. Where else would I go to get said guidance than an arts and crafts store? But, alas, when i asked two workers (one being the manager, per her name tag) where I could find canvas, I got a snotty point and response. When I asked the last two employees about what paints would work best, it was like I asked them to decapitate themselves and give me their head as a gift. I felt so awkward, unwanted, and such an inconvenience that I left without buying anything. Like I said, I totally understand retail can suck. BUT I also know customer service is extremely important. Hopefully this will be seen by a manager of sorts and they can review their employees and help them give customers a better experience. read more

I love this store for the variety of items they have for crafts and crafty inspiration! That being said I have got the same cashier the last two times I was there, and she is kinda grumpy. On this recent trip I had a coupon though there app I didn't realize it has specific hours it had to be redeemed during because it just had the date and to % off and I had to click into it and read though the fine print something that I didn't do because I was getting the stuff anyway I just looked while standing in line and found it so I didn't really have time to read the whole thing. She scanned the coupon and it didn't work I was fine bit she says in a kind of condescending tone oh sweetie you need to read the fine print because it says 5pm to close. I said ok so she continues next time you really need to read the fine print. I said understood I just found it standing in line. Then she hands my receipt and again continues just so you know I Always suggest that people read the fine print on there coupon first. I just said understood. It really frustrated me because it was like I was being scolded or something when I didn't do anything wrong or give attitude about the coupon not working. When worked retail and in similar situations given the customer the discount then explained what they needed to do to make sure they could get it in the future. This was not the case here she was not continually telling me to read the small print because she gave me the discount anyways. I did not expect to honor it . I just feel it should have ended at the fine print has specific times for this coupon. Ok. And we would have been done. read more

I went to Michael's in Reno last Friday to take advantage of their "generous" 60% off custom framing sale. The frame I chose to have made was 10x24, single matting, thin plain wood frame. The estimate I received was $134, with the original price supposedly over $300 !! Really?! I asked about reducing the size of the mat around the picture, which would slightly reduce the frame size, and was told "that can't be done". But, isn't this "custom" framing? The "sale" price was close to, if not higher than, what a normal price for a simple custom frame that size should cost. I will never trust a "sale" at Michaels again. read more
