It's been a long time since I've stepped foot in a Michaels; we dropped in last weekend because my sister needed a large styrofoam cone for a project. When we walked in the store, it was full of customers, the shelves and isles were mostly orderly considering how busy it was. I found it fun to explore the store because there's so many unique holiday decors and a bevy of different crafting supplies. A majority of their check out registers were fully automated but there was still a manned register by the entrance. Overall, we had a nice shopping experience. read more

I'm a forever customer of Michael's craft store now! This is because of the amazing customer service and kindness of their framing department at the Fire Creek location in Reno! The story: I recently lost both my 16 year old Huskies. My boy husky, Bear, he passed away January 2025. I was devastated. To honor his memory, I took my favorite picture of him, his paw print, and his blue dog collar to Michael's for them to frame in a shadow box. I have had many items framed and shadow boxes at this store. It does a really great job every time. The store worked on the box for about 4 weeks or so, when I got it back, it looked perfect! I hung it up in my office so I could see my dog everyday! A month and a half later, my girl dog Nieve passed away 3 days after her 16th birthday. I was really heart broken. Losing both my dogs within about 3 months. I took the shadow box of Bear and also Nieve's paw print and pink collar to Michael's to see if they could put both of my dogs items into one box for me to honor and remember my dogs. There was a nice young man in the framing department that saw how shook up I looked and carefully listened to my ask about updating the current box to the new one with both my dogs. He was extremely kind and listened to my ask and told me they could make those changes work. He asked when I needed it by and I said whenever they could do it, I didn't want to rush them with this because of how important it was to me. I got a call 3 hours after I dropped it off. It was completed. I went to go pick it up and instead of the nice young man, it was an older gentleman there to help me with my order. He was so kind with his words about how hard it is losing a pet. He was just so nice to me about the whole interaction. He and the young man talked about the work and got it done right away for me. They knew it was really important to me and I was grieving. Since it was fixing an adjustment they said there wouldn't be a charge. I felt overwhelmed by their kindness. I was getting teary just standing there listening to the nice old man. This was just so above and beyond for me grieving about my two dogs of 16 years, I don't think either of the two framing guys understand what this meant to me. I'll never go to another store for any of my framing needs. I probably spend at least $2,000 a year on framing. Michaels has a fantastic staff and you have a customer for life. I'll be sure to tell all my friends and family about my experience there. read more

I did an online order for a gift for my grandson. I decided to take the option of pick up in store and paid online with PayPal. For some reason the order did not go through and I found this out when I went into the store. The nice young lady could not find my order. So I went home and tried again and this time it went through. I went back to get my order a few days later and found out your have only 5 days to pick up and item. Good to know because sometimes I order when I am out of town hoping to pick up in a week when I am back. Not sure if the money gets automatically refunded. The nice young lady helped me with the new computer check out since it would not take my phone number for my account but took my email. Not sure why I can not have both as a way to get to my rewards. She also told me about a kids pumpkin decorating class that she was teaching on the weekend. I like the fact that she was pumped up for the class. Michael's many times have sales especially holiday items before the date. It is fun to browse this store and I always find something to buy. read more

I placed an online order for pick up at the Sparks, NV store. One item I wanted 3 of, there was 'low stock' so I could only get one. Picked the order up when it was ready. The next morning, I got an email that my order was ready for pick up, and it was the additional 2 items. I drove over to Michael's, no order there for pick up. An associate came over to help me; she couldn't find it either. She looked the order up and said, Oh! It's at the Reno store. But I didn't order it for pick up at the Reno store? Yeah, if one store can't fulfill the order, it will be sent to another store in the area. I was not happy. I try to purchase things locally when I can, but I guess going forward I might as well wait the 2-3 days to get something from Amazon. read more

Incredible options for holiday decor! The selection at the store is outstanding, and did you know there's more to be had through online ordering? Store is well organized, especially considering the almost overwhelming amount of holiday items to be had. Toys, trees, decorations, plus an abundance of craft items are all reasonably priced and often there are wonderful sales. Additionally, their coupons, found on the online site, are a bonus. You can navigate there and have the cashier scan the coupon right from your phone screen, no need to print. Speaking of cashiers, the staff is helpful and friendly. Help spread good holiday spirit by being patient because they are dealing with crowds of shoppers on a constant basis :) A fun store to explore; you might just find a whole new hobby to love! read more

I love Michael's. It's my favorite pace to go. With the growing family, I buy online more often. It's easier with young tots around. For the first time, we tried to do one of the kids' activities. We signed up online and had reminders that were sent to our email and phone to ensure we arrive on the event scheduled time frame. They day of we pack our stuff up and get our kiddos into the car. We arrive, and they say there is no event at this location. Me, who recently gave birth. Still has strong mom brain and was dumbfounded. I couldn't recall if maybe we were meant to go to the other Michael's store in sparks. The silly goose I am. We walked out. Then I thought. Hey, check your reminder. It stated an instore event. So I went back to make sure. I talked to the worker, and she looked online to confirm the event. Then said oh its an online event." I nodded and walked out. Since I felt so silly, we left and did other things instead. I wanted her to join the kids' event since she gets bored doing art with me on the weekends. Thought it would be fun for her to try something else. She was so excited when we got into the store and as we walked back to the car she looked puzzled and confused. Once the day ended, I decided to check again. I even had an email from Michael's with the address, activity, and time. Conclusion is the store does not follow what Michael's calendar has. I'm not sure how that works. Oh well, just another day in the confusing world of parenting. Either way, the lesson is call to make sure the store front is aligned with what Michales.com activity is scheduled. So that you don't disappoint your child. I know now, I won't be going back for any activities here. Probably will stick to the other events in town. Overall experience is a 1 star. The 2nd star is to show I still love Michael's. Quality/Quantity - Good, we get all our arts and craft stuff from Michaels. Actually, we also try to get our picture frame services here. They have a good selection. Also weekly ads & coupons, see website. Atmosphere - Good size and selection. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, Sundays from 10am to 7pm. Service - Good, but today was self service. They now have 4 self service checkouts, so convenient. Also curbside pick-up, an inside pick-up for online orders. See pictures. Same day delivery, see website. Loyalty program. FYI - You need to update on Yelp your "From the Business;" Fall and Halloween is over. The Michael's framing department crew did an amazing job on my custom framing job. They floated my Cambodian lotus paper on top of a mat and it looks beautiful! Communication was good and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It's a large piece and the cost was just under $200 which I felt was fair. read more

Michaels has it all! I love how easy it is to order online and pick up in the store - but curbside is safer for me because when I go into the store, I buy everything!! I am not necessarily the craftiest person but I get lots of useful and decorative things there, like fun doormats for great prices, picture frames (for a while there were some that were buy one get one free!), wreaths, candles, baskets, throw pillows, artificial plants (my cat is a real plant killer), great planters and pots, and so much more. What I'm saying is - you don't need to be crafty to love Michaels. Especially if you love bright colors. I hae gotten crafty items there too, and Christmas ornaments (they have some really fun and pretty ones!!) and I stocked up on fun wrapping paper after Christmas because it was on super sale. It's never too crowded in the store and everyone wears masks and there is plexiglass up at the registers. They have great sales all the time and if you join the Rewards program, you get cash back vouchers - I have found them to add up pretty quickly! The customer service is also excellent, for the most part. The people who work there are mostly friendly and helpful, even when I've had a complicated return or run in just before closing to pick up a giant online order including furniture (I know, jerk move). The nice worker person even grabbed a cart and helped me take stuff out to my car and load it! If I were her, I would have been cursing me but she was nothing but nice. I am not going to say every person I have encountered working there is 100% nice and helpful but even the ones who don't seem thrilled to be there have promptly helped me with what I need. read more

I first called to ask about balloons and she helped me over the phone and put my mind at ease about going to the store. Then at the store she was so helpful it made me want to stay and shop more! Misleading advertising and unhelpful staff. This Michael's is always understaffed and their advertised deals don't go into effect into the following week as per their policy. When I asked the staff where my buy one get one free deal was, she informed me of the one week ahead policy, which isn't her fault, but a stupid policy. I received an email and text that my online order was ready for pickup. After driving 20 minutes to the store, the employee could not find my item at the "grab and go" rack near the front of the store. She said the computer system was down, so I must have falsely received the messages saying my order was ready. She said "you'll have to come back another time." There was no effort to locate my item or see if it was still on the shelf. She called the manager who refused to look for my item. Her response was "there's 50,000 items in this store. How am I supposed to find it?" She also refused to cancel the order because "the system is down." I will purchase my item on Amazon and never return to MIchael's. Shame, because I prefer to spend my money locally. read more

I usually shop at the Michaels in Sparks, but the Reno store had some items in stock that I wanted. I had several packs of cardstock and some smaller items. I went to a live cashier, and as she was bagging my items, I asked if I could use a cart to transport the heavy purchase to my car. I was told NO, the carts could not leave the store. OK. Before I got to the exit, both plastic bags split and my entire purchase hit the floor. Not one employee offered to help. I gathered my items and managed to get to my car at the far end of the lot, in the rain. After I got home, I realized that two packs of cardstock were damaged. Had I noticed it while still at the store, I would have asked for replacements. In the past month, have tried calling and have sent several emails and have had no response, other than the auto reply that my email had been received. read more

I haven't been here in quite awhile. Since Hobby Lobby moved into the hood my shopping allegiances have been tested. Today I needed something I thought might be at Michael's. As we entered it seemed like the store had been tidied up a bit. It wasn't as hard to navigate the aisles and it used to be. That might be due to the fact there isn't a holiday that is right around the corner so the massive displays are at bay. They didn't have what I needed and nobody actually spoke to me so even if it was buried in another section I didn't find, I would never know. read more

First, I am so thankful that the staff has been following the safety measures due to Covid 19. They wear masks, have plastic partitions around the registers and wipe down the counters after every customer. My only gripe, that's more of a personal issue, was that I couldn't find the yarn that I was looking for. I went home, got online to their website and started browsing their supplies. I found what I was looking for and bought 6 skeins of Red Heart yarn for under $18. I opted for an in store pickup. As soon as I walked in the door I noticed there was a little kiosk with a button. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but the customer service was atrocious today! Unfortunately Michael's is one of the few craft stores in town so I have to go pretty regularly since I have a knit/crochet business on the side. Today I went in to return some yarn I wasn't going to do since I'm going a different direction with my business. I have never had a cashier roll her eyes so many times, they might have stayed in the back of her head. And she kept asking the manager questions regarding the return policy which I could answer for her. On her name tag it said she'd worked there for the last 2 years... Maybe brush up on your company's policies? In the beginning I was trying to be really nice and helpful, but halfway through her throwing an adult fit, I was very close to telling her off or calling for the manager... I get it, doing returns sucks but Michael's is not a small mom and pop shop and it doesn't affect individually employees but she was taking it out on me like I was taking money away from her. read more

I love this place. The store is kept clean and almost any craft item you would need is under one roof. I always get their coupons via email, and they will let you use more than one coupon in a transaction. If you are looking to buy a bigger ticket item, wait until you get a 40% off coupon. Usually the check out lines are not too bad, but sometimes there is a wait. Usually the cashiers are friendly enough which is a nice change. They started a new rewards program that is supposed to apply all applicable coupons to your purchases, but I have had problems with that. So I just have my coupons ready to scan on my phone. read more

I have been shopping at this specific location for years. All of my craft needs, even when I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere, I still go here. Tonight we cut it pretty close to closing but I was in desperate need of just a few pieces of colored card stock. When we walked in the store, we were told by the cashier they would be closing in about 15 mins and "no rush." This is to be expected, the cashier informing you on your way in that they close soon. She was sweet! Like I said I've been shopping here for years and I'm more than familiar with the place. Knew exactly what I needed and where it would be. But all of the individual card stocks were all jumbled up and in the wrong places so I had to take the time searching for the colors I needed. Five different times (two or three times by the same person) we were approached and told "we're closing in ____ mins." How many times do you need to approach the same PAYING CUSTOMERS to rush them? I would have been in and out had their shelves been organized and things been in the right spots. The fifth time I just put my stuff down and left because of how rude they were. It wasn't a friendly reminder like the cashier in the beginning, it was rude and aggressive tones. I understand they worked a full shift and are ready to go home, but if the store is still open customers should still be allowed in. If you wanted to go home at 8:50, your business hours should close at 8:50. They were so rude about it. Won't be coming back. read more

I took an expensive Serio lithograph into the store for custom framing. After three very nice young ladies did the measurements, I left the item there for framing. Two weeks later I was informed that the associates had measured incorrectly and the mat I had chosen was no longer available. I went back to the store to choose another mat. A different associate brought my art work out of her workroom. It was placed between two large pieces of cardboard with protective paper on both surfaces, opening as you would a book with pages. Instead of opening the "book" with the art facing up, it was facing down. Instead of turning it upside down, she slid the protective paper off the top and bottom with the art finish facing cardboard: not good for the finished surface in my opinion. I helped her place it face up and watched her remeasure. While she was inputting information in her computer, I noticed that there was now a crease, about 4" long down the top of the piece in the center of the print into the image. That is when I got mad. She informed me that she didn't do it. OK, I then told her I had better not see a scratch in my art after she was done framing it. Her response was not that of an employee who was sorry that a customer's property had been damaged. I could file a claim, see a manager, find receipts for purchase, ect, ect. Bottom line, I will never again trust Michael's with anything more valuable than a poster. They are not trained to handle original art! This is after having used them consistently for over 20 years for custom framing. Never again! read more

I asked to price match an amazon.com item that was specifically the same model. Cashier immediately said they don't price match amazon.com which I know isn't true. She asked another lady and she said they do, but when the cashier asked for help to do so, she then said they can't. Why bother posting price match policy if no one knows it, including the manager. I was also given so much attitude for using coupons from Michaels and Joann's. Again why is there a policy that states they'll honor other retailer coupons if they make you feel like you're an asshole for doing. read more

Creativity comes to me in a lot of ways, but most often it's from something I observe in my environment. So when I'm in need of a little inspiration I sometimes cruise the aisles of a craft store! I know, it sounds strange, but staring at felt stencils, paint colors, and styrofoam shapes can sometimes spark and idea or two, or three. They're always DIY craft projects, but that can be fun, or fun for the people I get to help me with them! Most recently I discovered kinetic sand, which carries the tagline "One touch will blow your mind!". Trust me, it will! This stuff only sticks to itself, never dries out, and has all the fun qualities of sand but none of the mess!
