I usually decide to stop in Michaels every once in a while because I have to do projects for college that require a couple of materials from this store. Typically, I don't have very much trouble finding what I am looking for, so it's rare for me to have to get any help from someone in the store. This time, I was having trouble finding the specific paper that I wanted to use for my project. I was able to flag someone down and have a chat with them regarding this topic, and they were able to help me out a little bit but after describing my needs for the project materials, they kinda just shrugged it off and told me to let them know if I need any further help looking for other materials in relation to the project. Still though, they did a pretty good job in dropping what they were already attending to at the time that I went over and asked for help, and they came to help me, which was very nice. Checkout went pretty slowly, but I'm not sure if this is because there was a new employee who was currently in training at the time of my visit to the cash register, or if he was just going slow because of the heat. A pretty good location. I am generally an AC Moore person but since there aren't any near by, this will become my new craft store. I came for a specific wooden box to match 3 I already had. I was able to easily find it. They have a pretty good selection of wooden items that you can paint or stain yourself. This store is an okay size, a bit on the small side. I walked around a bit and they have the usual of a little bit of everything. The location itself is good. There are a ton of stores in the area so you can get all sorts of shopping done while here. Overall, since this location is close to work, I will go back for my craft needs but wish it was a bit larger. read more

I frequently visit Michaels to pick up items for my weekly flower arrangements. They've never let me down in terms of selection (well, they could have some ribbon that's slightly more fancy, but that's minor). I can find all of the vases, olive grass, beads, and other accoutrements that I need. I definitely enjoy browsing the merchandise, especially when the store isn't crowded. Crowded days at this location leave something to be desired. Prepare to wait in line behind wide-hipped, sad-eyed ladies who are likely to be covered in cat hair, arms loaded with wicker baskets or cat-related scrapbooking supplies. The cashiers move REALLY slowly, too. I don't know what takes so long to scan and total items at a register. If you have three identical items, two of which have price tags, expect to wait a while for someone to do a price check, even though you've just told the clerk that the items are identical and have given them the exact price according to the other tags. Sigh. Once, I came here, and I was buying glass marbles and several vases. The woman at the register asked, "Would you like me to wrap the vases in paper?" I declined, since I had some padding-like items in my car's trunk, like sweatshirts, that would keep the vases from clinking or breaking. "All right," she said. Then she heavily dropped the bag of marbles into the vase. Well, lady, if I knew you intended to bash the crap around, I would have agreed to have it wrapped! Service is generally friendly, but as seen in the previous examples, some of the employees aren't the most...uh...well, let's stick to an arts and crafts theme and say that there could be a few dull crayons in the box. Also, I don't even mind small side conversations, but the last time I was there, my friend and I were checking out, and a lady took her items to the register across from ours to be rung up. The two women behind the register had their backs to her and didn't even turn around when she set her items down. Instead, they just kept up their conversation about the older employee's wrist problem or carpal tunnel or whatever was ailing her. The shopper came over to our line, and the woman ringing us up told her, "She's open over there, too." The poor customer just sighed, said, "Oh, ok," and was finally able to get the younger employee to ring her up. However, the employee didn't greet her or converse with her at all. Instead, she continued to hold a conversation with the older employee! I thought that was pretty unprofessional. Overall, there's no reason not to shop here. It's all right. There's a good selection of art and craft materials, and the service is generally friendly, albeit slow and sometimes inattentive. read more

I love having custom frames done here and today was another enjoyable experience due to Lori! She was patient with me and gave me great suggestions. I had a print framed for a wedding gift and then also another print reframed for myself. I told her to help another client while I was deciding and then at checkout I made a change and she couldn't have been more professional, not the least irritated which is hard to come by now a days. She shared some good tips with me and I also learned you mat to match the art and frame to coordinate with the style of the room. I just took advantage of the 60% off + 20% off custom frames and Nicholas at the frame counter was excellent. He helped me design the perfect frame given the awesome Titanfall Collector's Edition poster content. He made fantastic suggestions and went above and beyond going through several options and sizes with me, ranging from frame size, matte background, type of glass/acrylic, he is the man. They even have awesome software that allows them to take a picture of whatever you are having framed and is able to configure and display the end product right there on a computer screen! I will definitely be back again because of the level of service and especially for the sales they have. P.S. I did not know how expensive frames can get until most recently. Definitely wait for sales!!! It will save you hundreds of dollars if not more. read more

I TRIED TO GET MY MARTHA STEWART ON... But they didn't have the supplies I needed. I recently moved and there is a Michael's near where I live. When you walk into this store, you realize that it's HUGE! However, it seems to have a bit of a dullness compared to the Michael's in Mission Valley. The Clairemont store seems a bit older, has stains and cracks on the floor, and looks like someone threw up silk flowers but overall, I found the customer service to be the best part of this store! This store for sure seems to have a little less supplies than the Michael's in Mission Valley but I think it serves it's purpose! At least if I need silk flowers, i know where to go and I know they won't run out! read more

This location is always stocked with what I need. It's worth driving 20 minutes to because I know they'll have what I'm looking for. It doesn't get overly crowded other than the occasional checkout line but it's like that for most Michaels. I'm a huge Cricut user and this place always has the color Vinyl I need. If I need some crafty thing in a hurry...I'll come here just because it's close to home and there's a Petco next door (I've got a mini-zoo at home so I always need something from Petco!). But if I can wait, I'll just go and order it online instead and save the hassle of this place. Their selection is ok, depending on what you are looking for. The staff however, another story altogether. Most of the workers (incl. mgmt) are just completely disinterested in helping you at all, or even in getting out of your way if you need to buy something near where they are working. Some are just downright rude so it's better not to ask them for help unless you desperately need it. The registers, well every Michaels I go to seems to have the same problem -- LONG LINES. This place is no exception. And they don't give a crap about it either. The cashiers are usually slow, and either rude or just detached (unless you get the one really chatty guy who is just WAY over the top friendly in a creepy way). Don't expect any of them to be particularly friendly. Today I ran in for some sketch pencils, and to my dismay I got a really miserable cashier fella who was quite clearly having a bad day and/or resented being on the registers. The only thing he didn't say to me was 'go to he##' as I left. I guess it was that danged 40% coupon I had that put him over the top. Makes me really want to avoid this place like the plague if I can help it. They truly need a major mgmt and/or customer service overhaul, because at every level...they are just pitiful. But if you just need some beads or yarn or scrapbook supplies etc. in a hurry (well sorta, remember the lines)...then this place will fit the bill. read more

Sara asked me if I needed help and not only told me where the items were, but walked with me throughout the store. She also helped me pick the correct type of paint and read the box to be sure it would work for what I wanted to use it for. I haven't received customer service that personal in a looooooong time. This is one of the larger Michaels I have seen...and I have been in A LOT...LOL! Not as cluttered either. Their aisles are set up differently then the other Michaels, not bad, just different. Everyone was extremely helpful and they even said, "Welcome to Michaels" as soon as we walked in. The parking is a dream...LOL...The spaces are a nice size and they are close to the store. I've been going to this location for years. I usually find everything I want here and sometimes I'm even lucky to find awesome deals when I get to the store . (especially, if u sign up for their classes) I usually check my Michaels app for any coupon deals (usually the same deals on the Sundays paper) and that sometimes it saves me a couple of dollars. The only reason why I rated this location low, is because the customer service is lacking. I've been here multiple times and spoke with many of their employees. You'll have great ones help and then you have some awful employees. My rating is based on the overall experience that I get from this location. Some employees are a pain to deal with because they either: don't know what they are talking about or they give you an attitude because they hate their job that much (yeah, don't lie... it get those lazy ones too). Don't get me wrong, Michael's is a great place to shop for your crafty needs, but if you have a project and feel like no one can help you or assist you.. well that sucks. This is a big Michaels. I don't care for the way it's set up/organized, but it usually has everything I need. The negative for this one, the line is always ridiculous. It takes forever to get through the check out line and out the door. Every single time I come here. They could have 3-4 registers open and it still takes 20 minutes. I don't get it. The staff seems nice and has been helpful when I needed it. I do try to avoid this location though, mainly because of the long wait I've always had when trying to check out. read more

After visiting 2 Targets and 3 Walmart stores in search of a tall white unity candle, my coworker suggested heading to Michaels. I typically shop at the Michael's in Carmel Mountain, but this store was closer to work and I only had my lunch break to find everything I needed. Yes, there is a jungle of silk flowers, but once I found my way through, I was able to find someone quickly. The saleswoman was busy but she took the time out to walk me over to the candle section of the store. After locating the candle I needed, I again asked for assistance from another salesperson. Again, she directed me to the correct aisle and I found another item for the unity candle. As I strolled past the beads section, another salesperson greeted me kindly. Am I starting to notice a trend? Although the store is old, the customer service is great! The aisles were well stocked and neat, even the restrooms were clean! I came here for some tulle and elastic to make a tutu for my Halloween costume. This place is impossible to navigate. There were no signs as to where anything was and my friend and I had to comb through the aisles and racks just to find the tulle. When we did find the tulle, they had a VERY limited selection of colors (only 4, all of which were pastel colors). Then, I needed to find elastic and could not find it anywhere so I tried to flag down an employee for help. Where were all the employees? You tell me. I felt like I was playing Where's Waldo because NO employees were to be found for 15 minutes. Honestly, this place needs to be a little more organized. With so many people looking for things, you should not only label which aisle has what, but also have some employees stationed/floating around to help out with customers. read more

I can't order from you? Origami thoughts: Really, the only reason I am in here is because I am with my partner. She comes in for the ribbons for her ribbon lei designs she crafts. That or getting paper for her origami pieces. So judging really on what I see, everything is alright. Of course there will be those few that are very into their specific craft that they are looking for something that is ridiculously fine-toned like "this green is just a shade too dark... but this one is a shade too light... WHY ISN'T there a even-out Bristle Grass." In general, all the sales clerks at any Michael's I have been too are majority, of not all the time, have been nice. I was on a mission to find a decent photo album for my photos from 1985. It seemed logical that I would find such an item at the Michaels, but as I walked through the land of fabric paint and Christmas wreaths, I knew that my mission was not going to end in success. There is no way I'm ever going to pay more than $10 for a cardboard book with plastic sheets in it made by some Taiwanese kid who doesn't even get paid $10 a day. And how does this store get away with charging people for bags of pine cones? Are people just that lazy to go outside and pick up some pine cones off the street? Do they sterilize the pine cones? How do you sterilize a pine cone? Lastly, I saw the biggest scrapbook known to man in here. It was so big that I almost thought about buying it, going to one of those old lady scrapbooking parties, and gluing everyone else's scrapbooks into it. It was that big. read more

Keeping in mind that we were having a "destination wedding" so to speak and since we do not live in San Diego we did not have time to be running around town looking for stuff. MICHAEL'S squared us away properly. The only thing we could not find that we needed was a broom. However other than that...MICHAEL'S had us covered. Absolutely pathetic customer support. I would give zero stars if it were an option. I called at 8:00 PM on a Friday night (how busy could it possibly be) and they put me on hold for the framing department for 30 minutes. I hung up and was stupid enough to call back, this time they made some excuses and put me through the the framing department line again where I waited on hold AGAIN for 10 minutes. Then someone picked up the phone and told me that the framer just went on 30 minute break. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. Neither I nor my wife will give these people any of our business. I received pretty stellar customer service today. I came in needing 25 of a certain item, they didn't have enough on the shelf for me so I asked the nearest employee. He looked on his handheld device and told me everything was on the shelf, so I asked if he can check to see if they had them at the Mission Valley store, I told him how many additional that I needed, he said yes that they did have it in stock there and I was on my way thinking that I'd have to make another trip to the Michael's in MV. While I was starting to check out at the register the nice employee guy comes running up to me with exactly the amount that I needed saving me a trip! It was great. The selection and the store front itself seem smaller than other Michael's, but I don't mind making do. I always recommend checking online on their website for coupons and deals at the time of shopping. There's always a coupon that you can use to save even more on your purchases at Michaels. I've gotten crafting supplies, baking items, sprinkles for cakes, etc. There's a lot to be found at Michaels. The store has always been quiet every time I visit, and staff by the register are friendly. I came in to by paper pads that were advertised as Christmas themed, and she just seemed so annoyed that I asked.... saying yes, we have them, but they're not on the floor yet.
