Tried to do curbside pick. Ended up going inside and looking for the item myself cause it took unbelievably long. The item was no where to be found. "Same day pick up if you order before 4pm" The lady then told me my order might not be ready until they get another truck of stuff. I LOVE Michael's stores. However, this particular store has RUUUUDE customer service. My god, they are so obnoxiously rude and insensitive toward their customers. There is a woman named Laura (I will leave her last name out) who works at customer service. Avoid her like the plague if you can help it! Wow, wow, wow, she seriously does not care about stepping on people and belittling them. She will talk out of the side of her mouth, scowling and spitting demeaning words of stupidity at you. Actually, avoid just about all of the customer service reps like the plague. Use your intuition and seek out the friendliest looking person there. Going in this store always requires me to take a deep breath and to have an awareness that it will all be over soon. The assault by the enormous display of dusty dried flowers when you first enter should require another deep breath, but if you have any tendency for allergies, this is a very bad idea. Michael's is the only place I know of that carries Rit fabric dyes. I found a very helpful employee who cheerfully sent me down the correct aisle. Whew! Trying to find anything yourself would be next to impossible is this chaotic mess of a store. To checkout you have to pass by bins of what the owners must think are tempting impulse buys for the shopper. Really?! Next comes the video you can't avoid during your wait for a checker. Today's was about how to keep your puncher from clogging. I'll leave it at that. Next comes the musical notification that sounds suspiciously like the Words With Friends tune and an electronic voice saying something like "ready for you at checker #2". I am a sucker for a craft store, although i hate to say this.....Michaels is my least favorite one. I get really frustrated when shopping here, due to the lack of organization in their inventory. The customer service is quite limited as well. I have found my self asking an employee for a certain item, and their retort was a qucik come back of "we dont carry that." I knew that was a lie becasue i had bought it their before, so i went in search of it myself. I ended up finding the space on the shelf where the item should be, but they were out of stock. Had a great experience with the framing dept here...especially after a horribly negative experience at the Petaluma store (btw never go there). Sandra, the worker there, took time to help me even though they were out of stock of black matting because of the fair. She took my name and number if something came in. 10 minutes later she called that she found something that might work. Unfortunately it didn't but she tried. I spoke to Charles, the framing dept manager, who was a great help. He found some other matting that had a black backside that would work for my photos. Cut them to the appropriate size for my photos. Great experiance, Awesome customer service. This store will be my go to from now on. read more

I get there today only to find out that was not the case nor did they order them. I'm here pretty much all the time these days for wedding stuff. Their wedding section is not impressive however I'm usually able to find what I'm looking for when it comes to DIY'ing it. Look out for the coupons that come out each week ranging from 20-50% a single item, whoot! The folks who work here are usually pretty nice, offer to help and a lot of times have used the products and know how they will perform. I will agree with other reviewers that sometimes you can come back 1x a week for 3 weeks and they will still be out of an item but usually I'm not on a time crunch to get it. read more

I thought it was one particular employee that made it bad, she is always at the register. I haven't seen her in a bit but she has been replaced by more jerks and robot voiced employees. Terrible customer service. If you are lucky enough to find someone to actually help you they are either nearly irritable for you bothering them, or they stare at you like you asked for the blueprints for a rocket, and have a blunt response that doesn't answer what you want and then they walk away. Bummer. They never restock. I went in for nearly a month now looking for something I can locally only find there, even asked a few individual visits to finally have someone tell me they are getting a delivery this recent Tuesday. I go tuesday evening to find they just recieved their load and cannot dig for what I am looking for. I go back AGAIN and it is now Friday, still not stocked. I gave up and ordered it online. Terrible experience! Thursday Sept 1st at 1:00pm. I went in looking for specific paint brushes and when I didn't find anyone on the floor I went to a cashier, an older Filipino woman, and asked her if there was someone on the floor to help me and she's said "what do you want". I was shocked. I kindly said I'm looking for brushes and she said "22-23!". That's it. I found my brushes and went into the line and was checked out by a young girl. Here is my fifth review in the "Getting To Know You" series: Ok, I have been to this store numerous times and I have to admit, this probably was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I was struggling with the carts located near the customer service area, and the clerk did absolutely "nothing" to help me. I had to say something out loud and all she had to say to me was, "Yes, the brown ones due stick and the orange ones squeak." She promptly went back to writing in the book. Bad strike #1! Attn: Michael's Staff When your customers are struggling with something right in front of your very eyes, you stop what you are doing and go help them! I have been in the service industry for over 20 years and I have never seen a blatant disregard for a customer in my life. I stopped in for the shear purpose of finding some yarn for a project I am working on and was greatly disappointed that their yarn department has dwindled in size. Apparently no one knits or crochets as much anymore. Scrapping is the big thing now because they have aisles and aisles of supplies for that type of project. Oh well... Went in there just to get some acrylic paint then went to the line that had no customers and i waited for the girl to let me know she can help me. she never said a word, just completed rudely ignored me, so i went to here instead. I said hello to her because she still didn't greet me as I stood there. what an awkward experience. the employees should give the customer a better experience when we go shop there. I work retail and i can tell you that if i were to not greet my customers i would get fired On the spot. I prefer the Michael's in Petaluma and San Rafael. This one in Santa Rosa always has just one cash register open which makes for an annoyingly long wait in line. Also, I can never find any employees there to help me- way understaffed! Also, the merchandise is poorly organized and aisles are a mess. I still go here though, for the beads, jewelry wiring, and earring findings. I'm happy with that department in general. I am NOT happy with their soapmaking department; there are few quality products in that section- expect to find lots of chemical fragrances rather than essential oils, synthetic dyes, melt and pour bases laden with chemicals, and soap molds that can't be used for cold process soapmaking- just melt and pour soapmaking. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received. I received half of my order that I picked up curbside. Was charged for the full order. Despite my calling 4 times and being on hold for almost an hour I was told that their manager was mad at them for spending time with me because they had customers in the store that needed help before me, once someone came on the line. I was told I was wrong. That despite looking at my bank statement and my receipt that I was wrong for what I was charged. I am not wrong, and confident of my math and logic. Less than awesome experience. Still have no idea how to get the $40 additional dollars I was charged back. I wish they could hire someone who isn't a disrespextful obnoxious tween. A Michael's is a Michael's. This one is mostly empty everytime I come but any craft needs you have can be fulfilled here. There seems to be less model airplanes and model cars than when I was a kid (at another Michael's) but otherwise plenty of crafts for kids and plenty of seasonal items for the home. I can imagine it would be a good steal to get holiday things after the holiday as they have so much. Lines are usually short since there are few people here at one time, but that just means there's usually only one cashier which can be slower. read more

I had a great experience here today when I went in to check out their after Christmas sale- I found out that the holiday scented hand soaps were on sale for only 46cents!! Clearly, I planned on buying a lot of them, because that is such a great deal on an item that is used daily- but I didn't notice that I had also grabbed some of the regularly priced cents- That is until Candice, the most helpful employee ever, came over to help me and clearly showed me which ones were on sale, helped me count them all, and even rang them up in advance to make my experience much smoother and pleasant- I hope they recognize her efforts because she is definitely an asset to the store! I have worked at Michaels for almost a year and a half and I know it's not the best place in the world (it's my second job) but I want to comment on what everyone else has to say because I think it is better than what those who are frustrated say. Don't blame the employees because that store is seriously short staffed. You would think that since it is a big Corporation that they would give the minimal people that do work their full-time but they don't. San Rafael's store actually gets more hours that Santa Rosa!!????!! (and we have bigger sales) Coupons are awesome! Download the app and start saving for all you people that don't want to pay $2 for your kid to do a craft but will shell out $5 for your Starbucks coffee. Cashiers can't leave their register, and more often then not, that is where the new employees start and of course they won't know where anything is.... they are new. Remember when you were new at your first job? Lighten up! Some of you come in with "other" stuff on your mind and treat us like crap because you are having a bad day. So yes, when the 4th or 5th person comes up to us and can't explain what they are even looking for and "don't have time", then maybe that is why we get a little frustrated. If you can't even explain what it is you need or are looking for, don't get upset when we can't properly service you. I know how bad it gets there, so I don't go into work not wanting to help everyone that comes in. What a horrible store. I've being going here for years and have accepted that the staff at this particular location are rude and unknowledgeable, but yesterday was it for me. Leslie, who's name tag says "Customer Experience Manager" was comically rude to me. She didn't greet me with anything but a rude stare when I reached the check stand. She didn't ask if I wanted a bag, just started tossing things back in my cart. She accidentally knocked my phone off the counter and cracked the screen and didn't even apologize!!!! I bought 12 glass vases- she didn't offer to wrap them in paper. I'm getting married and have been spending a ridiculous amount of money in this store, but I'm done. I own a company that has me purchasing art supplies from Michael's quite often, and I have never experienced such poor customer service as I do at this particular location.I have placed online orders for pick up three different times, of which there was an issue every time that required me being in the store for over a half an hour and dealing with the manager to get it resolved was no picnic either.item cancellations have happened for which I never got the refund, even after contacting customer service . Contacting customer service is also useless, since they simply direct you to call the store anyways. Please don't make me go there again. There are bad retail experiences and there is Michael's. It's in a class all by itself. In most big box stores the focus seems to be on scrap-booking and beading, nothing else. Michael's looks like it's accommodating those crafters, but they have no fabric. The yarn inventory is minuscule. Almost everything else looks like it hasn't had any attention since the store was originally stocked. If the shelf isn't empty, it's in complete disarray. During my most recent visit, there were two employees on duty, both at the registers. When customers checked out, they were informed of that fact: no one at framing, no one on the sales floor. A paging system directs customers to the next open register (REALLY annoying, and you can hear it all over the damned store! Worse than the DMV). Listening to the screaming children in line had me dropping various "impulse" purchases I'd picked up in the search for what I really needed. Anything to get me out faster. tHIS IS FOR THIS SANTA ROSA STORE ONLY! I bought several children's T-shirts for a birthday party bowl-a-thon. I buy $$$ from Micheals all the time...usually in Petaluma. This particular Michaels is on my way home from work so I stopped by to not only buy the T-shirts (sizes all labeled wrong-took me forever to find sizes) then a return of un-used shirts last night. The clerk was not happy to process a return and let it be known. I had 3 receipts- all had T-shirts on them and I had them in size order. She complained that I didn't match each shirt to the receipt by the bar code. !?!? Huh?? Did I know each barcode was different on each shirt?? Its the same tag on all of them! So the manager said "Just scan the receipt and each shirt for a match"..(she was merry) This clerk begins and delights with every "Not on this one" as she would flip to the next shirt. By the time we got thru all 3 receipts she was complaining about the door being left open by rude customers, her feet, how no one understands the return policy...I wanted to jump across the counter and choke her! But! Karma is a B*tch....when I got home I realized she gave me $9.00 twice for a $3.00 shirt!! Now...should I return to point out her mistake?? Or take myself out to lunch with the $13?? read more

This place always has what I need but for some reason the lines are always soooo LONG. The store is usually a mess and things are all over the place. The isles are cluttered making it hard to move around, however their customer service makes up for it so I gave them an extra star. If I ever need anything I can usually find someone on the floor to guide me. I enjoy all the coupons they give me and the fact that they take competitor coupons, anything to save me a buck is much appreciated. Dear Michaels, When you ask an employee if they have keys to unlock a display, DON"T TELL THEM TO PRESS A BUTTON. Stop doing what you are doing and HELP! Fairly certain the function of you being there is to help once a customer manages to hunt you down. Seriously, she didn't even look up to acknowledge that I was there. Yep, nobody came despite me pressing the button and waiting for five minutes. Then I went to the cattle call, or checkout line for fifteen. There were ten people in line and one cashier on some other timezone. What should have been a fifteen minute pop in and pop out for five things ended forty-five minutes later and I still need to go to the hardware store for sandpaper (shocking, they were out) and finishing spray because there was no way that I was going to spend another dollar or moment longer in there. I should have known there was a reason that I hardly ever go in there and have all but stopped crafting. The stores are just not worth the wretched customer service, chronic lack of stock and stuffing of more and more stuff so that you can barely move around. Guess it was my fault for going in there. Seriously, Costco on a Sunday or the day before a holiday is much more pleasant. BOO!!! read more

Terrible experience with the framing department. It took a month and a half to get 2 small pieces of art framed. Multiple issues of miscommunication, poor people skills, and lack of framing knowledge. Didn't expect top of the line as it is a department store not a specialty framing shop. But for the price of $200 dollars there are some expectations, that were definitely not met. Will not use them again! read more
