Before we even walked into this location the police were already outside handling a dispute. And then not even being on the store all of 3 minutes, a guy tried to shop lift walking out of the front door. He was stopped verbally by an associate warmth in that the police were already outside, so then he decides to walk back in the store and give a foot chase to the ‍ other than that, We pretty much browsed all of the aisles of this location. A few of the aisles had some decent sales. A few good gift ideas as well. I mean if you are looking for a place to pick up your project or craft items, this can be a spot. Still a little on the pricey side though. Store is kept clean! Which is an added plus

Awful place never go shopping at this horrible place. They do not allow parents with strollers to shop there. I was harassed and ridiculed and accused of stealing because I had my baby in his stroller. The employee treated me with disrespect and embarrassment if I could give zero stars I Would! How dare you do that to parents.

This is probably the name that was on the box when they were going crazy looking for it and it said it never showed up

I recommend for any natural fiber/ synthetic lover to stop by and browse at least once! So much yarn with a wide selection of beautiful colors, fibers (wool, alpaca, bamboo, cotton, recycled fibers, etc) plus a wide variety of brands. Amazing store and amazing + helpful staff. I guarantee you'll find what you need--and if not, you'll still walk out with something that makes you smile from ear to ear

The lovely ladies from Needful Things were happy to help her. They explained the properties of each of the yarns she was interested in. Some of them required a yarn balling machine and they explained that to her too. My other daughter bought a delightful crochet jellyfish. They are now a regular destination for us when we are here visiting family. I highly recommend them! If you are looking for craft supplies or a unique gift, this is the place to go!

Now after all these years and now being retired and having the time, I'm ready to expand my skills. Now let me preface the fact I'm a lefty, so this is probably why I never went further that a simple stitch/blanket. But now you can find videos and tutorials, yay! So... off to the yarn shop. I mean Michael's has yarn for basic projects, but if feel it's time to step it up! During the pandemic I visited this shop with my friend who was looking for quality yarn at the time. Today I felt I'd go back and check out what they could offer for a burgeoning beginner/intermediate like me. The owner Marsha greeted me when I came in and was so helpful with all my questions (and I had a lot of questions!) she was very patient and kind. She helped me find a nice cotton yarn that wasn't too expensive since it's my first time doing a project like this one, and gave me some good tips on working with this kind of yarn. So also told me I can always come and sit at the large table with a project and sit and work on a project if I want too and time. So yes, this yarn may be a bit more expensive that you are used too if it's your first time at a proper Yarn shop, but these yarns are lovely and the qualities are beautiful. It's really a lovely little shop.

In the center of the shop, a group of women were knitting and chatting around the table, and it was absolutely charming. Marsha, the owner, could not have been kinder. She patiently helped me work through a pattern I was stuck on and made me feel completely at home. The atmosphere is so inviting that I could've stayed for hours. This is the kind of place that makes you want to linger, create, and connect. I can't wait to come back!

Adj: Treasure Trove of Yummylicious Yarn and More!…read more Another incredibly special and quite exclusive store in Sacramento that I somehow have only visited once or twice long ago, and which I've not really appreciate until now. I'm so glad that I have finally paid a meaningful visit to Rumpelstiltskin Yarn Store recently. Rumpelstiltskin, located on the R St corridor, is quite a long-standing establishment in Sacramento that has been providing the Sacramento fiber art community with supplies and knowledge for over 50 years! Rumpelstiltskin sells a wide selection of high-quality yarns, fiber art tools, and other supplies for crocheting, knitting, spinning, and weaving, so there's definitely a great variety of products offered here for various interests. Perhaps because the skill level of my two fiber art hobbies, crocheting and knitting, are quite elementary and have not improved much over the years, I've so far had all my yarn needs met at the more conventional arts and crafts stores of the big box variety. But as I am getting more serious about my yarn hobbies, I'm now interested in finding stores that offer more specialized products and even provide classes that will help me improve in my crafts skills. I am also looking to connect more with the fiber art community in Sacramento because my venture into joining that community so far has shown me how warm and welcoming fiber artists are and it is totally possible to learn from seasoned hobbyists and pros/teachers if one puts their mind to it. I've even connected with some very local yarn enthusiasts at my local library and I'm sure they all have visited Rumpelstiltskin. On this visit, I saw lots of exclusive brands and types of yarn made of much better material than I'm used to using. From basic wool to more specialized Merino, Alpaca, and Shetland, there were many different kinds available. One I particular liked was the cashmere wool which felt heavenly. I learned that Rumpelstiltskin makes it a point to partner with fiber farms and other small boutique fiber suppliers to source yarn and other fiber products that are not only exclusive, but that are truly local and US-made as much as possible. Rumpelstiltskin even shares the stories behind each brand they carry and even hosts "Farm to Needle" events to introduce some of their thoughtfully curated products that are specially selected for their quality and uniqueness. As such I noticed that the prices of their products are definitely several times higher than that of regular arts and crafts stores, but again Rumpelstiltskin sells really high-quality yarns and supplies. I did not have any questions for staff during my visit, but I saw a class taking place and noticed that besides the looks of concentration, it was smiles all around as everyone was really enjoying their class, so I'm also going to look into taking a class or joining in one of Rumpelstiltskin's events. Just from a quick glance at their website, I see offerings of beginner's knitting classes for adults and kids, an embroidery intro class, a felted slippers class which sounds super interesting and practical, a sweater class for those who are ready for bigger projects, and even basket coiling, spindle spinning, spinning wheel, and weaving classes. Besides the classes that have costs associated and private lessons for those who want 1:1 instruction, there are also monthly and periodic free knitting circles for kids and social stitch events. I did not interact with staff today, so I can't speak on customer service, but maybe on a future shopping trip, I'll hopefully be helped if needed. In short, Rumpelstiltskin really is a wonderful staple in the Sacramento community for fiber art beginners, hobbyists, and pro-level enthusiasts alike and I'm so glad I know more about Rumpelstiltskin now so I can feel comfortable to come back for higher-quality yarn and supplies for more serious projects as well as for classes and events to connect with our local fiber art community.

On top of that, I've been coming here for years and been met with nothing but experienced, thoughtful interactions that help me to complete my projects! Independent yarn stores are a dying breed. I urge you to support your local economy and put your money in the pockets of REAL people, not Joann, not Michael. Rumpel FTW

It turned out terrible with about 6 weeks to go. I ask for help on NextDoor and several someone's suggested Claudia in Pine Grove. I gather all the ridiculous supplies that we had accumulated to try to make this thing a reality and head over to Claudia, ready yo be laughed out of the store. I mean, any serious seamstress would look at my pile of nonsense and laugh and say no way that's a waste of time. Not Claudia! She did laugh at our first attempt (fair, it was terrible and I was laughing with her), and asked for a picture of what we were trying to create. Get this: I showed her a crappy YouTube video of a guy making the costume and she asked me to pause on the finished reveal ... and took her phone out and took a picture of it! She took 2 pictures of tiny, low quality video pauses on my phone with her phone ... and turned it into MAGIC! She had it ready by 10/13 so the kids had some time to wear it going into Halloween and when we picked it up, it looked better than the YouTube guy's! It looked like a mascot costume, it was sooooo good. She had mesh in the eye holes and mouth so the kids could see through it, and even added fingers. The kids were ecstatic! They had such a fun time with it. It's even better - October has a wedding season and she was furiously working on wedding outfits. Like, tailoring and hemming beautiful Mother of the Bride dresses and suits. She had no time for this silly project, and she made it happen anyway. I absolutely adore Claudia, and you will too.
