I never saw the yelp reviews before I went .... otherwise I wouldn't have gone.. Just moved to the area and didn't want to drive 2 hours home to see my eye doctor of 10+ years. Sat in office for 45 min before having anything done, had a tech puff some air in my eye, then sat some more before being taken back. Then told they did it with my contacts in so have to redo it. He took another pt back so I had to wait 15 min for them then went back again. Dr. is interesting- never talked to me when we got back- never asked what prescription i've been wearing. Just told me based off whatever the tech did my new prescription is +6.50 and +5.50 and handed me contacts, FYI i've been wearing a +4.50 and +3.50 for 10 years with minor changes here and there and my vision is only slightly blurry right now. Literally pissed me off when he said that and did no tests, normally they hold lenses in front of your eyes- never happened. OH and then he tells me to go put them on in another room AS HE SEES ANOTHER PT. So I had to wait another 15 min for them to be done before telling him the +6.50 and +5.50 contacts make me want to barf. And then go to the desk cause i'm done with this and i'm told its $100 because some of the things were optional and they were supposed to tell me that at check in but they forgot but still are billing me... and I asked for the prescription printed but they won't give it to me- im supposed to come back in a week for my "final fitting". Not necessary, i'm just gonna wear my barely blurry +4.50 and +3.50 contacts till I can drive 2 hours to Lancaster to my old eye doctor. Literally WTF. read more

Stay away. I am a glaucoma patient (20 years, including surgery), and I am treated by a TOP glaucoma specialist (Dr. Pro). However, my thinking was that for glasses I should go to an optometrist,,, JUST like described in the other 1 star reviews, the visit was horrible. Lack of professionalism (no "hello" or "what can we do for you today" etc. Chewing gum, messy office, telling another patient, as I walk into his office, "I'll be with you in 2 minutes", and more). At some point he told me that if I ever needed, he too can treat me for glaucoma,,, For him saying that he's a glaucoma specialist is like a chiropractor claiming to be an orthopedic surgeon - seriously. To make matter's worse: I told him that my doc instructed to put a drop just in one eye, since the other eye, where I had surgery, has low pressure. He told me that I should put the drop in both eyes. I don't think he can even spell the name of the medicine I am taking, Unreal!!! Folks, this is serious, it's not a restaurant or something,,, it's your eyes. LOOK ELSEWHERE. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Total crook! He should be guilty of insurance fraud. After a 5' exam he said I needed these fancy lenses (supposedly I had three different problems with my vision). I guess he figured out I have good insurance. His office would sell the lenses for 1.5K!!! I thought it was fishy. Went to another doctor. I have just regular old myopia and the lenses were 200. read more

I admit. The shop is a little odd looking and quite dated. And a couple of the team are less approachable than they probably should be. But this place was great for a few reasons. Firstly, the ladies at the reception were helpful, great fun and attentive. The lady who did my eye test was very nice and very professional. And the glasses that I went home with were just what I wanted and were the result of good advice by the team there. So overall, perfectly happy and willing to recommend! read more

I have mixed feelings about this guy. If you are looking for someone who has a good bedside manner he is not your guy. He herds the pt's in and herds them out even on my 1st appt with him. Never seen any professional lack the ability to say hello! except for him. He was less than thrilled to answer my questions. Here's where the better part comes in. His staff take the time to examine my eyes and the prescription was perfect! I'll probably go back to him b/c of the good lenses I rec'd. Where do I start? The small, stuffy leopard themed office? The leopard print shoes, tight black jeans and hoop earrings that the 60 year old male doc wore? Sorry guys, I know that is an unfair visual. Okay, I can handle that; I thought "new age" or "drug dealer." Well, I never found out which one actually described the good doctor because I walked out after the second unhappy employee spew her frustrations at me. Who yells at a patient? I didn't know she was talking to me for two reasons: A. She didn't use my name & B. She was conducting eye exams for 2 other patients at the same time! Who conducts 3 eye exams at the same time? Absolutely no professionalism or privacy at this office. Now here's the cherry on the sundae--I finally left after I was yelled at for sitting in the wrong waiting room--that above mentioned employee placed me in. I quietly went up to the receptionist to request that they do not bill my insurance as I'd like to have a private, competent eye screening. She informs me that I will in fact have to pay for the services rendered and offered no apology for the unprofessional and nasty staff. read more

Very professional and very thorough...Everyone in the office is nice and Dr. Michels is excellent!

Just dreadful. Waited 45 minutes at first appt; waited 50 minutes just to pick up contacts on return visit. Doctor was irritable and unpleasant -- told me within first two minutes I definitely was getting glaucoma, only to retract statement when he learned I was only very myopic (often causes a false read on diagnosis machines.). Thanks for the heart attack, Doc. Then he refused to discuss any other lens options than monocular contacts (one close and one far) for my vision issues. Very glad I did not listen to him and found another doctor. Staff is well-meaning but disorganized and inappropriately chatty. read more

AWFUL. Unprofessional staff and doctor. A large part of my examination was conducted in the waiting room (where all the glasses are), surrounded by other patients. It was difficult to focus on the tasks I was supposed to be performing while the receptionist argued with an insurance company 3 feet away and another patient was receiving different instructions directly next to me. The doctor didn't explain anything to me and repeatedly roughly pushed my head around during the examination. DON'T DO IT! read more

I would like to warn everybody not to go to this office. This man is a totally untrustworthy scammer. He has questionable billing practices - he will over charge you if you do not question every charge. He has ZERO social skills and referred to my child as an "it". He also tried to get me to do hundreds of dollars worth of completely unnecessary tests and would NOT explain what they were, what they were for, or what they were called. When I returned to the office with a pen and paper and asked for the names of the tests so I could verify with my insurance if they would be covered, the office manager told the scheduler to "just cancel her". There are so many wonderful choices for optometrists in this area, DO NOT go here!!!! read more

I must admit, although I have not experienced the legendary Dr. M Morse Michels's optometry work first hand, I feel as though this important information about his EXTRAORDINARY talent must be broadcast in some forum. What better way than the pages of yelp? Anyhoo... a close cohort and associate of mine is a patient of his. Upon her most recent eye exam she was given a (complimentary) copy of this man's jazz album. Yes, you read that correctly - not only is this man an optometrist, but he moonlights as an AMAZING jazz musician. We have listened to the CD hundreds of times, with each time passing a new subtle nuance is noticed within the beautiful harmonies and chords provided by his band, THE OCTOS. Did I mention the octos are all in their 80s? Those dudes can really JAM! The doctor cultivates the most incredibly soothing voice, it's truly a delight to the listeners young and old. So while I can't say much about his optometry work, I can say that his renditions of "Fly me to the Moon" and "Girl from Ipanema" are debateably better than the originals. So whether you're in the market for a new eye doctor or some smooth jazz to ease your troubled soul, head on over to this guy. read more
