Not really sure what all the hype around this place was, maybe people have had better experiences at the other Michi locations, but I definitely did not have that great of an experience when I went to this location. Came here for dinner on a weekday night with a few friends, and there were literally only 2 other people in the restaurant when we got there. It might have been close to closing time, but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The food came out pretty quickly, but it wasn't that good. The broth was room temperature, nothing was hot, or even remotely warm. The taste of the broth was sub par in my opinion. I've definitely had better tonkotsu and miso ramen pretty much everywhere else. My friends and I may have just had a bad experience since we went pretty late to this location, so hopefully the same does not apply to all Michi Ramen locations. I've only ever heard good things about Michi Ramen though, so I'll probably give it another shot. read more

For NW Austin it's probably your best bet for quality ramen. I had the meat lover's regular strength with spicy ground pork and sliced chasu. I also added an ajitama (should be standard), hot oil, and fresh garlic. I thought the noodles were nice and al dente, something which other ramen places struggle with. The broth was plenty rich and flavorful, the hot oil was a nice change of pace to help break up the rich on rich. As a side I ordered the takoyaki, which were a bit smaller than traditional, but still flavorful and creamy nonetheless. Overall if you don't want tot drive further south, Michi is a great option. read more

The ramen was excellent. I half expected a little old ba-chan (grandma) to pop out of the kitchen. Alas, it didn't happen. The egg was near perfect and the pork belly was very tender. I had a great time here once again. I tried the Michi but I will admit I think I prefer the saltiness of the Sappora. It was around 3pm so I was after the lunch crowd but before the dinner rush. I picked the right time to visit. The service was good the restaurant was clean and the food was yummy. On a side note the chick in the back was pissed about her car issue. She made sure everyone in the back and the front of the restaurant know how pissed she was about a nail In her tire. She dropped the F bomb at least 4 times. Which I found odd but the mom siting st the talk with her 4 kids may not have been so thrilled about it. Maybe management should speak to her about that...... read more

I am a huge Ramen fan and was happy to see a place nearby. Overall, great experience. I went on a Monday at noon and no one was there. I was slightly disappointed in a few things: 1. The noodles were stiff 2. There wasn't quite enough broth to noodle ratio - a little too much noodle or not enough broth... 3. The spicy flavor add was not as rich in flavor as I was expecting However, that said, I'll be back! Hope they stick around and maybe improve a little as they go! I love dipping ramen and was really looking forward to trying this place, especially since it's so close to my house. However, the noodles came out really stiff and dry, and the dipping broth was a little bit sour. Kind of a let down, Tatsuya's dipping ramen is much better. My friend got the Sapporo and enjoyed it, so I definitely want to give other dishes a try. Our waiter Andrew was helpful and polite. No complaints there. The interior has a colorful wall that brightens up the atmosphere, and the tables/booths are perfect for parties of about 4. There were only about 4 other groups when we went around 7 on a Wednesday night, not very busy at all. read more

This is a little ramen place inside Michi Market. I got the Sapporo ramen with sliced lean pork belly and an ajitama, and my daughter got the tonkatsu broth and noodles. We got Lychee Mochi as a dessert, and they gave us an extra Green Tea Mochi for free. The mochi options are really limited right now; I'm guessing supply issues, and won't hold it against them. It hits the spot if you're on a time crunch for ramen, but there are definitely better places in Austin for comparable prices. read more

This was my first ramen experience and I was a little bit skeptical at first but that all went away with the very first bite! I ate it all in one setting it was so good! Although ramen can be confusing-this place made it super easy plus the staff was very helpful. Pick you base and pick your add-ins and your meat choice! Easy! The broth was very delightful and bursting with flavor. The pork belly was wonderful and tender. The noodles were perfect and literally everything else. I love Ramen... I really do! I was wicked excited when this place showed up to the scene. If I've said it on e I've saId it a 1,000 times, we don't get much way out here in the burbs, so when I heard ramen was coming so was all about it. I have to admit it's not in the nicest of strip malls so don't judge it when you drive by. They have painted the walls with some pretty dope art, it's pretty awesome. The food here is amazing, they keep it simple and let you pick and choose your broth and toppings etc. FYI they dont serve booze so my first time here was a bit of a bummer, mama likes to pound grape with her dinner. Anyhow they allow BYOB, I would say bring a twist top wine or your own opener, the table next to us were in a bind without an opener. The service here is the only reason I went 3 stars, the 2 times I came here it was a complete meltdown on service. My waitress on my first visit got into with another worker, it was heated and she ended up crying in the corner so no water refills for us. The second visit they were struggling, they did say it was due to short staff but that was the case 2 weeks ago and clearly still an issue. I feel like this place is better than the other location that we have tried. The restaurant is well kept and very clean and modern, although the music that they had going was some awesome 80s arena rock, which was well appreciated by the patrons. Our server, Shelby, really took care of us while we were there, going the extra mile for us and helping up out when we asked for something that was a little extra. She was so kind to us and treated us awesome. If you're there when she is, please ask for her. She's so great! As for the food, hubs said that the broth is some of the best broth that he's ever had in ramen. He said that the more he ate it, the better it got, and I couldn't agree more. Everything tasted amazing and felt like true comfort food. It's exactly what you would expect and want from a ramen place, particularly because the day that we went, it was really cold. This was my first time trying out this place. The servers were awesome. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The food was a little slow coming out. But definitely worth the wait. I ordered the chicken ramen noodles with vegetables. The broth and soup had great taste. The soup definitely hit the spot. Were they fell short I feel is with their so called burnt pork ends. They had great taste and flavor. However I was expecting them to have that burnt texture and crispiness. The carmelisation you expect with burnt ends just wasn't there. I decided to try the michi ramen with sliced pork belly and ajitama while my boyfriend ordered the meat lover's with diced pork and grilled chicken with fresh garlic. Both were so delicious. The soup was very flavorful! Can choose which thickness you want your soup and we both chose normal. It was perfect! Don't get me wrong- the food is still 5 stars. I'm a HUGE Michi fan and only want good things for this location. If the owner/ manager is reading this - let it be known that's it's purely constructive. I m glad Michi Ramen has also got on the "let's open a suburban branch of our successful city restaurant " bandwagon. I really am. I'm however a little bummed out by the ambience. There's parking aplenty since it's located inside a strip mall; isn't as crowded as the N Lamar michi by any means; is more family friendly than the other locations. This does come with a trade off - the unique kitsch that the N Lamar michi provides. The interiors make it appear that this locations doesn't take their presentation seriously. It's almost as it another restaurant vacated, and michi just moved in without making it their own. The speed at which food is delivered to the table needs a LOT of work. I'm putting this down to the whole new business streamlining their process by-product. There's NO ALCOHOL at this location. Hopefully it's just a license delay and the warm sake will grace their tables soon. I did notice a lot of the orders are to-go. Indication of some popularity but honestly, with a little TLC indoors- I anticipate that michi on Anderson will have the same buzz as the other locations. read more

Ambience - Very open dining room with some very colorful painting on the wall. There is a few other decor items that are Japanese but it is mostly pretty simple. If you ever came here when it was Mesa Rosa then you know what it looks like. Same tables, booths, counters and the whole nine yards. Least from what i can remember. But it is definitively a much more welcoming vibe than its predecessor. The old vibe was very dark and gloomy. But overall it is a decent looking store with a nice atmosphere. Menu - I dont know if this is the whole menu since it is still in its early soft opening stage. But the menu is comprised of 6 or 7 ramen bowls and then a section to add more toppings and then a small side item menu. Each bowl looked fairly diverse and very pleasing. The way the menu works is you first choose your broth setting. Which is light, regular or stout. But i have no idea what the difference is. Maybe the consistency or how thick it is? Idk. then you choose which bowl style, then what Chasu and then add more toppings if you want. I like the idea of being able to add more items to a bowl but some of the extras were kind of expensive. Especially some that you find standard at other Ramen joints. The normal ingredients in each bowl are pretty simple and standard with most the dishes coming with woodear mushrooms and green onions and maybe one or 2 other things. It feels like they are pushing hard for you to buy extras to improve a "simple" bowl. Not that the standard ingredients arent good, but it can definitely be a nickel and dime situation depending on what extra items you get. The menu isnt large but thats ok because then they can focus one a select few items and execute them well. Some of the veggies are pretty cheap thou for only an extra 50 cents. Service - The service was really good. Definitely a brand new crew with a few select employees who know what they are doing. I sat near the main counter where the manager and other employees congregated at. I could hear one of the employees, who has obviously been with the company for awhile, showing the others how to use the POS, explain the menu and answer a bunch of other questions. The servers were definitely green as can be. I dont think any of them have served ever in their life, but thats not a bad thing. Because they all had that wide eyed unadulterated jaded vibe that veteran servers can have. They were all very friendly and very ambitious. My server was very peppy and go get'em. I could see she was trying to find things to as she filled up my water when it was not even half empty... (or half full? Hmm....) Anyways, the staff was all wonderful and all excited about a new location. So i hope they can keep that vibe Food - I went with the Michi Bowl which i was told is the most popular. I got it regular broth with pork belly and it came with mayu oil, green onions, woodear and nori. Plus i added corn since there wasnt alot going on and it was only 50 cents. The portion size of the bowl was very standard size bowl. The one good thing i noticed was that the corn i added was actually a very generous portion. So in light of that, then yeah if each portion size of extras are that much then yeah sure ill add more to my bill. Anyways, the broth itself was a very subtle but tasty broth. It wasnt robust or complex but a nice simple tasty broth. It was almost a little to watery thou for my preference. But is was still good. The pork belly was about the size of CD which is a decent size. The pork had a very unique taste that i cant quite explain. At first bite it tasted weird but then turned into a tasty aftertaste. I dont know how to explain really but it was really good and something i havent experienced before. The pork itself was cooked well and wasnt dry or tough anywhere. The noodles thou were very surprising in that there really wasnt that much. Normally places overload the whole bowl to where it is mostly just noodles. Im not sure if i was upset or intrigued. I cant say that there wasnt enough because i was full and satisfied. And i cant say they didnt put enough just because other places overload on noodles. But maybe just the right amount, at least for me anyways. It was definitely a well balanced condiment ratio. But overall my ramen dish was good. It had some good flavor, consistency and portion size. Overall - I really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and my food. The whole add on extras is still a bit perplexing to me since the bowls are fairly simple ingredient wise. A lot of those extras are standard at other places. But i guess this is how they roll. But the food was good and very filling. If you want a complex bowl then you better be ready to fork over some extra lettuce. It is nice to have a Ramen place right down the road from where i live thou. So if you looking for some good Ramen then stop by. read more

Ok so I went to this place not knowing what I was getting myself into and it ended up to be a great choice! Other than a bit of confusion about how to order the food, it was delicious. By the way, they were very helpful and friendly in explaining what your choices are and all about the menu. The portion is super big so I had enough for lunch the next day and it was still as good as the first time! Now this is what you call RAMEN noodles but nothing like the one on a cup!
