Making food out by the trash!! I am writing this review to share a serious concern regarding bluefin in Sunset Valley. During my recent visit, I observed staff preparing or handling food outside near a trash receptacle. As a patron, I expect high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and what I witnessed was deeply concerning. We come so often to Bluefin Sushi now, we know our go-to servers by name (shoutout to Marco and Elan). I love the monthly specials Bluefin has to offer. Sometimes they're a hit, other times it's a miss. This past Valentine's special, not my favorite, but it keeps things interesting and coming back for more. I have yet to venture over to the ramen side of the menu, because I stay loyal to the sushi section. While I enjoy the monthly & signature rolls, they can be a bit heavy, so I like to balance things out with adding more traditional rolls. I'll usually ask for a few add-ons or small tweaks, and they're always more than happy to accommodate -- which I really appreciate. My Go-tos: The Negihama-Toro, the Philadelphia or Salmon Roll, the Bluefin Special Roll, and most recently the Hamachi Tower, which comes with plenty of fish and rice to make your own nigiri. read more

I find Bluefin to be consistent and good, either for dining in or delivery. The delivery always comes well packaged, especially the Ramen (not hot soup in plastic containers). I get excited to go because it's really good sushi among other things. Recently it looks like they stepped up and the presentation of the dishes is really nice! Newer menus. Each order comes with one whole avocado cut into four pieces. I really liked that they used snow crab instead of imitation crab, but the dish was just okay overall. The batter did not hold everything together well, so the filling kept falling out. I could not get a cohesive bite and it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed tasting experience. Vegetable Tempura ($6.60): Came with five pieces of mixed vegetable tempura and a side of tempura sauce. The taro slices were cut too thick, but the other vegetables like the onion ring, green bean, and broccoli were good. Spicy Karaka/Thin Noodles ($19.80): The presentation was great, but the portion size was small. The thin noodles were stuck together and hard to separate but was the largest portion in the bowl. I'm not going to lie, I was surprised by the quality of Bluefin. After reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a try and took my daughter there for a mommy-daughter date. The food was very good. We got the ramen (highly recommend) and a spicy scallop roll. The service is top notch. We were seated immediately and our server was attentive without being too present. All ramen served piping HOT thank you! Black tonkotsu 14.00 ramen.. price on point for what you get.. Pork was silky... the right texture. 6min egg delish. Other ramen garnishes fresh and authentic. Thin ramen noodles interesting... not your typical west coast sun noodle type but good texture.. almost like a firm somen noodle? Spicy tonkotsu is where its at for me. Just the right amt of heat that you can still slurp to the bottom of the bowl. The ramen broth had just the right amt of fat... sometimes the broth at some places are soo rich you cannot enjoy the entire bowl.. not here. A nice balance! The sushi rice was't seasoned.. weird. Roll we had was forgettable for me.. Maybe just an off night? Not sure if I try it again.. im pretty picky with my sushi. Id prob stick to Uchiko for that level and experience for the fish. I live relatively close to Sunset Valley and I love going shopping in this area. So when my son said that he wanted sushi...I said "Let's try somewhere new!!!" Normally I don't. But I'm really glad that we did!!! The restaurant was quaint, had a lot of parking and we had the sweetest waitress....Miss. Vonie......then the food was great too. We eat sushi at least twice a week.....And this hands down NOW IS OUR NEW, FAVORITE SPOT, IN THE AREA!!! Reasonably priced and the waitress let us know, that if we go there between 1-3pm, then they have major specials. 2 rolls for $15.....3 for something etc. All I know is I was impressed. I have to say this may be my favorite ramen place in all of Austin! As a connoisseur of all types of ramen, I felt Bluefin offered numerous different flavorful broths that I couldn't really find elsewhere. My go-to is the spicy chicken ramen which comes with a "flavor bomb." Their edamame and other appetizers are always incredible every time. Was very hopeful for this sushi spot based on other reviews. We sat at the sushi bar and service was quick. The miso soup was a 10/10. Great flavor and a good portion. Sushi we ordered was ok. The blue crab crunch roll was rather bland and a little disappointing. Ordered the TX Wagu Roll based on other reviews and it had a bit more flavor but because they touch the top, you can definitely taste the torch which takes away from the other fresh flavors. Also ordered the spicy scallops and it came in a big roll, with a good amount of scallops, but it definitely wasn't spicy. We would maybe give this place another chance if it weren't for the staff in the back kitchen eating sushi rolls with their bare hands and not seeing a single person wash their hands before going back to the floor. The guy that was packing to go orders and plating the cooked food was consistently eating with his hands and packing orders at the same time, never washing his hands. He would also come to the sushi bar and talk with the sushi chefs with his bare hands on their work space (again, unwashed and un-gloved hands after eating several times). I came back because the ramen was so good. The Curry Moz was a risk but a really tasty surprise. The melted mozzarella made the broth thick and creamy. The meat was oddly sweet but there wasn't much of it. If you like broth and noodles, this is the dish for you! Our server was nice and checked in from time to time.
