We went for dinner last Saturday and what a disappointment... I ordered the pasta Caprese. It was terrible - couldn't finish it. This sounded soooo good. Pasta with chicken, blue cheese, artichoke hearts and spinach in a lemon sauce. How bad can that be??? So, the chicken was just way too done. It was so dry and tasteless, it would have been better without it. The pasta wasn't drained at all. The water actually pooled up on the plate, spilling over the sides, diluting whatever goodness that could have existed. The kitchen should have NEVER sent the plate out for service (and in hindsight, I should have sent it back). Pasta was overcooked. One member of our party ordered the perch. Way overcooked - inedible. Another person ordered the chicken marsala. I was told it was acceptable, but nothing great. The last person in the party ordered chicken scaloppini and said it was really good. We split a Greek salad as I was told it was the best in the area. It was good and very large. Unfortunately, it came with the core from the iceberg lettuce in it. That lack of attention makes me wonder what else was overlooked? I still think the Greek salad at J&G's in Sylvania is still the best in town. We all had soup. I had a cup of chili, and it was OK, but nothing great. I was told the French Onion was pretty tasty and the ham and bean was spectacular. So, the place was slammed. I mean REALLY busy. The waitress did a great job and she did ask us several times if things were OK. We should have fessed up and told her about our issues, but it was so busy I don't think any of us wanted to make a fuss. our disappointment was as much our fault as theirs, I guess. I can't say I'll go back, at least not for dinner. I'll go back any day for desserts though. Dinner for two with an appetizer, 1 cocktail and tip was just over $90.00 per couple. Restaurant was very clean and inviting walking in. We sat at the bar to watch TV. Bartender was very nice and extremely busy answering phones for to go orders. Because of this, it took a while for our drink orders, our food order and to play keno. We ordered a burger, burger was good, fries were salted correctly and crisp. I ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms and it was canned mushrooms. I don't think I've ever ordered sautéed mushrooms and they were canned. Inconsistent service and food. One dinner is fabulous, then you go back in two days (not kidding) and the same dinner is prepared differently with half of the ingredients missing. One day the server is great, the next time the server slops drinks all over the tray and table. When it's good it's great, but it isn't dependable for the cost. This is one of the well known local spots for lunch in Monroe. Most people in our office (Tenneco) usually get lunch here on weekdays. This is a big place and I have never had to wait to get a table. The service is fast and the place is clean and has a good vibe to it. I usually get a burger or a salad here. They have a lobster mac n cheese that my teammates lile as well. Service was great! Checking in on us often and made sure we had everything we wanted. But this is the second time we were highly disappointed with the food. Our first trip I got a lobster Mac and cheese, plenty of lobster but the sauce was a bland white cream, ended up throwing more than half of it away. Gave it another try. I got a steak salad this time, ordered medium rare. As you can see, definitely did not come out that way. I also hate when restaurants throw massive chunks of tomato and onion on top that can't be eaten in one bite. My boyfriend got a burger that he also did not finish. Pretty pricey for mediocre food. Been here twice and really enjoyed it! Hubby and I decided to go out for burgers while out shopping so stopped in. He wanted an appetizer and we hit the steak bruschetta. It was fantastic! The steak was seasoned wonderfully! I could envision ordering this and a side salad as a meal. Hubby did get a turkey burger with onion rings. The onion rings were decent - we have had better and we have had worse. I changed my mind about getting a burger and ordered chicken Parmesan. I loved the sauce - thick and not too sweet or spicy. There was a thick layer of mozzarella cheese over the chicken and spaghetti. Oh the side salads that come with the meal are huge! My wife & I stopped in for lunch. It's been awhile. Promptly greeted, seated, service was good. The once loved Portobello Mushroom Ravioli with pine nuts and sun dried tomatoes is no longer. Used to be one of our favorite dishes but was told it changed when we asked we asked why there were no Pine Nuts or Sun-dried Tomatoes and the sauce was different & sweet? Still advertised on the menu with ingredients no longer in the dish and at nearly $40 for 2 we can not see coming back. We should have tried to sent it back as awkward as that can be and got something else because we felt that it wasn't right. Waitress didn't offer or ask if we wanted something else. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant . When you pull up , the outside of the building was nice, along with the interior. Unfortunately the tables need to be refinished, and light fixtures had food drippings and dust all over them. Now my Cosmopolitan cocktail was GREAT. Appetizer: Homemade spinach artichoke dip ( according to the menu ) was GROSS, it tasted as if they made a Roux with flour, then but little cheese in it. You could taste that the flour, was not cooked down. The bread that was brought out was ... OK , but unnecessary. Salads: were good Main entree's: Shrimp stir fry was very tasty, but a lot of canned veggies in the dish. Portabella mushroom stuffed raviolis.... Disgusting, the pasta was PASTY, and absolutely NO flavor in the sauce On the up side , our waitress was FANTASTIC!!! and did a great job. Whether it's a steak cooked improperly, a long wait time for service, cocktails tasting off, or simply a missed salad dressing on a takeout salad entree- Michigan Bar needs to step their game up! It used to be one of the "go-to" spots for either lunch OR dinner, now I refuse when someone mentions it as a choice for dinner! To start, they didn't have our reservation. Someone from our party called a bit after three and made a reservation at 7. When we got there at 7, the hostess stand did not have our reservation. The three girls talked about whether to seat us, or the walk-in customers that were waiting. They eventually asked someone and were told to seat us first. We got to our table and ordered an appetizer, which didn't come out for at least 30-40 minutes, maybe an hour. We ordered the loaded chicken nachos and they were awful. Everything was cold. There was supposed to be queso, but the only thing on the chips was hardened, solidified, melted cheese. We ordered our meals as soon as the appetizer arrived because of the wait. Our meals didn't come until 8:30, keep in mind we were sat at 7. The waitress said she was going to take off the appetizer from the bill because of the wait, which was appreciated. The meals were good. I ordered the Chicken Antonio (alfredo pasta and chicken), and it was good but extremely garlic-y and the menu doesn't indicate garlic. We got take out boxes, and the next day when trying to reheat my leftovers that became a problem. I should have noticed it when our waitress handed us the boxes, but I was given a cardboard take out container for pasta. When trying to take out the pasta to re-heat it, it completely stuck to the bottom of the box, making almost an entire plate of pasta inedible. I scraped what I could off the top that wasn't fused with paper from the box, and what I was able to re-heat was very good. Which makes me disappointed that half of it went to waste because a restaurant doesn't know to not give cardboard take out boxes to people with plates of heavily sauced pasta. This used to be the best restaurant in town but it is no longer worth what you pay for it. The prices have kept climbing higher. It is owned by 2 brothers whom also own Pete's Garage and all they care is about money. I've heard they treat their staff horribly so why would they (the owners and staff) care of your meal is good or not. You are treated like if your steak was cooked wrong it's your own fault they cooked it well done when you asked for it rare. read more

I can't wait for MI Bar & Grill to open again Feb. 1. I always start out with the bang bang shrimp appetizer and typically order the veggie fajitas. The sizzling plate of fajitas is piled high with peppers and onions seasoned to perfection. The steamed tortillas are accompanied by the huge plate of cheese, seasoned fresh tomatoes and lettuce, and of course sour cream and salsa. The waitresses are always friendly, and the beer and wine selection is excellent. If you haven't eaten here during the shut down, show them some support by ordering carry out. First for the highlights: the salad was absolutely amazing....and HEAPING. I ordered the Southern Cobb Salad. Quoting my dad "I don't know how they can afford to make that salad for $10." Yes, it's that big. The waitress was awesome with refills-- we didn't have to ask once to get a drink topped off. She also was considerate of our conversations, as we did quite a bit of chatting! She was also nice enough to check with the chef on a few questions we had. Now let's take a turn south towards my husband's fish dinner. He ordered walleye (fried). Unfortunately it had so many bones he was unable to finish it he was not offered another dish or any discount from the bill. As some of you know from my other reviews, my family prefers their french fries BURNT. Past well done, past crispy ...a solid BURNT. It's to the point we told them to have the cook put the fries in the deep fryer and forget about them. After a deep but comical explanation of how my family member preferred his fries to be cooked, he was served a full plate with a sandwich of undercooked fries. That was a bummer because we were all eating and had to wait on the fries. He was almost done with the sandwich by the time the properly cooked fries arrived. Unfortunately it's little things like that that can ruin a "great"dining experience. Other things that can ruin a dining experience were the obnoxious kids that were sitting next to us with their parents that didn't give two craps about the fact they were yelling, crying, and screaming...making it impossible for anybody to hear themselves talk. My wife and I went to Monroe to visit a friend of ours. He showed us around Monroe including the George A. Custer statue, very cool by the way. We suggested a late lunch and indicated we would like a good steak... well, we wern't disappointed... one of the BEST steaks I have ever had!!! Maybe not quite as good as mine but, close, very close. The fixins were good, the service was pretty good... the waitress could have smiled more. But, overall, I loved it. Since that first visit, I have threatened just to drive up to Monroe just for a steak at Michigan Bar and Grill... since our first visit, we have gotten back to Monroe once and met with our friend again... we were passing through on our way to meet someone up in Belleville, MI... needless to say we scheduled our trip to allow time to go and enjoy a steak at Michigan Bar & Grill. read more
