Honestly some of the best Thai food in the city. We have given it to non-vegans and they were instantly hooked. Highly recommend!

I've been to Urban Vegan several times and while I'm in Chicago I frequent here whenever I get a chance. I've even visited both Urban Vegan locations when they used to have two of them. Urban Vegan never disappoints vegans like me, the quality of food is always good! We ordered Chicken nuggets for appetizer Green curry, Spicy noodle and orange chicken which were all delicious but the service could've been better. It fact it was disappointing. The server seemed to be cold and indifferent and giving minimal service. When I asked for extra plates so we could all share, she gave us small plates and didn't say anything. Another customer was asking multiple times for take out boxes, bigger take out boxes and a bag to carry their leftovers, this showed the lack of quality service was not just no limited to us. That's why I give this place four stars instead of five. I hope the service improves when we return next time. read more

We wanted some Thai on a Monday holiday, and this sounded like a great option. The place was very much like a diner. Not fancy, a bit cluttered, and the smell of cooking permeated the environment. We were hungry and ordered a lot of vegan food. For us, Asian food that is vegan is pretty much all we eat anyhow as vegetarians. So, this seemed like a great choice. The panang curry was decent, but not revelatory. The fried tofu was a bit gummy, and the sweet and sour peanut sauce was run-of-the-mill. Overall, we left full but not fulfilled. Others who say this is some of the best in the city, maybe haven't tried outstanding places such as Anna's Thai kitchen, literally down the street. Kick it up a notch, Urban Vegan, you're on to something great. However, if you're going to turn people on to veganism, you'll need to upgrade a bit. read more

I'm accustomed to expecting very bland, strange tasting, rubbery food that never satisfies me when I'm going to eat at vegan restaurants. Met my friend for lunch here since she is vegan. I've driven by this place a million times and was excited to finally try it. My friend ordered the orange chicken, I ordered tofu pad thai. The noodles were good, and it's a big plate, but didn't feel as satiated since I'm a meat eater. Ate some of the orange chicken and it was a great flavor and texture. Honestly really good. Sadly we didn't have a great experience at Urban Vegan. I've been driving by it for ages and we were excited to try it. It's always comforting knowing we can order anything without worrying about surprise meat. We ordered a few items each and the price was reasonable, particularly for the portion sizes. It was a little cheaper to order from their website rather than a third party delivery site. I don't remember what appetizers we got but they were decent. However, my pad see ew tasted pretty weird, to the point that I couldn't eat much and ended up having to toss the rest. My partner got curry and it was not very flavorful and didn't come with enough rice. He was able to finish his, but it didn't get better with more time in the fridge. We're bummed! read more

Fantastic, authentic, vegan Thai food -- well-priced, well-portioned and extremely well-executed. I dined in for dinner one evening quite hungry. I ordered the red curry with peppered steak ($15.95 plus tax) and the rad na with soy chicken ($14.95 plus tax), knowing I'd have enough to take home for another meal. I ordered both spicy, hoping for Thai spicy. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The rad nah was legit -- coming with a nice, savoury Thai gravy, with moderate spiciness, plenty of soy chicken, broccoli and flat, wide rice noodles. Delicious. The red curry was very rich and complex, coming with plenty of soy beef, red and green peppers, bamboo shoots, and some eggplant, served with a side of brown rice. Top-notch stuff. I have passed urban vegan many times when I have been driving around. Have to say this small local restraunt is a hidden gem! Let me get into it! The food here is beyond amazing. I order the freshy roll and they were very fresh and every bite made me want more. The orange chicken is the best orange chicken I have ever had any where. If I could have this dish every day I would. The pad Thai reminded me of when I had it while I was vacationing in Thailand! The service was all star level. The waitress that served me walked me around the menu and filled my water when she saw it was low. Hard to find places where waitresses are that attentive. The atmosphere or ambiance like I like to call it, perfect. The natural light from the outside and the decor and music that placed really was pleasant. Overall, I will say give urban vegan a try. Delicious, cozy, friendly staff, fast service, and Vegan? This must be heaven! We ate here for lunch on a cold snowy day. I got the P.E.T with pepper steak- 5/5 - every bite was a flavor party in my mouth. Felt like a meat eating experience yet no cows harmed in the process :) A tad spicy but nothing someone who hates hot sauce can't handle. Ordered take out thru the phone and the girl obviously couldn't understand the difference between chicken nuggets and chicken. After specifying I wanted nuggets with my pineapple fried rice like 4 times I get home after an hour to find plain chicken strips in my rice. I really enjoyed the food and ambience in this restaurant! The vibes inside are chill-- it's spacious and nicely decorated, good for groups both large and small. Service is quick and the staff are very friendly. The lunch and dinner combos are the same portion size, but dinner is $1 more. The portions are large, and the variety of spring rolls, salad, entree, and rice makes it worth it. I got the Praram's Plate Combo with Soy Chicken. The soy chicken was good, but I think I generally prefer the texture of soy beef more. Still, it was very tender with a meat-like texture, and the peanut sauce was creamy and flavorful (the highlight of the dish, for sure). The spinach added fresh flavor and color. The purple rice was a little hard, but tasted good. The egg rolls were crispy and piping hot. The prices are not low, but they're pretty standard compared to similar vegan Thai restaurants in Chicago. The place was empty and I should taken the clue. I ordered the pineapple rice with chicken. The chicken was limp and tasteless. The rice was gummy and tasted like it was prepared days ago. This cheery, funky restaurant serves up very good food. Its mango with sticky rice got rave reviews from some in our party, and I thoroughly liked my green power salad with peanut dressing. I wasn't as wild about the golden tofu, just because I prefer extra firm tofu and this tofu seemed kind of spongey and watery (switching to a different kind might help, imho). Their French fries are excellent, however, and their Impossible burger totally won over a meat-eating dining companion. Have passed by this restaurant several times and thought it was American vegan. After looking at the website, my interest piqued when I saw that it was Thai. The tom yum soup came in a huge bowl. There wasn't the sour that is present in tom yum soup. Also missing or was very faint was ginger or galangal. There was the sweet and a nice amount of pepper. I ordered the soup with tofu, which was a good choice. The panang had a tasty flavor. It was, however, sweeter than I am accustomed to in panang. The dish came with red and green bell pepper, tofu, and wild rice on the side. Not bad since Thai cuisine is full of flavor. That kicks up bland tofu several notches. I didn't try any dishes that would put me in mind of having meat. I went pure vegan and glad of it. Those who like meat may enjoy seitan or other menu items that are meat inspired. read more

We enjoyed a nice lunch here, very hearty. The seaweed soup was delicious, but truly was 4 servings in one bowl. I took a quart home after eating as much as I could. It was fresh, flavorful, and the seaweed was delicious! My Pad See Ew with vegetables was perfect, too, and a much more reasonable size - although I did also end up taking half home and eating it for breakfast today! Still delicious! My friend ordered the spinach dish with peanut sauce, as part of the lunch special. Praram's plate, I think it was called. I don't think he enjoyed it as he barely touched it. There was a hefty heaping of thick peanut sauce on top. Perhaps too much, see photo. I tasted the sauce and it was good, but more like a thick peanut butter gravy. I also tried one of his mini egg rolls, and didn't care for it, but he liked them. The decor is like a casual store-front deli, with lots of boxes stacked around and a lot of decorations. It made it feel really casual versus a special meal, but it was fine. Very good Covid precautions, so that was appreciated. It was amazing to have so many choices, as a vegetarian, so that was fun! The servings are huge and we didn't think we'd finish but both were so good, we did in fact finish it all. This restaurant is my all time favorite vegan Thai restaurant in Chicago! Their crispy 'chicken' nuggets are so delicious with their sweet chili sauce. If it's your first time here, you must try their vegan orange chicken and the impossible basil beef! It will not disappoint you. The servings are big and one entree is big enough for 2 people. Their Thai iced coffee with soy milk is a little too sweet for me, so I'd probably ask for no sugar next time. Give this place a try and you will not be disappointed! read more

Good, another place to get plant based food. It doesn't look like much, but it's actually upscale quality food with no animal products. Urban Vegan has a focus mostly on Thai. Another hip restaurant for the Ravenswood neighborhood with all the other cool things going on. The prices aren't bad considering the top notch flavor and quality. Came recently for the latest visit and got some items we never had. I'm surprised they have such a large selection. This place isn't big so they make a lot from a little, good for them. A lot of the menu is Thai based. It also has other stuff like smoothies. It's about $6 each. We each got one with our choices of fruits. Choose either mangos or strawberries as the main choice. These are actually a pretty big size. Both were cold. These were also thick. As for the food, there's mostly Thai with some interesting sounding ingredients. They have lots of pretend meats that are all vegan. I had the Spicy Noodle. It's about $13 for a pretty big portion. This has flat noodles, garlic, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Also it comes with a protein choice. For these you can get fake beef, chicken, or even fish. Basically it's just tofu with seasoning to make it close enough. This is a little different than real fish, mostly because there's no fishy smell. Girl had Pad See Ew, a vegan take on a classic. This has similar protein choices, but she got it with fake chicken, which looked real, and confirmed it tasted much like the real stuff. Even though it's mostly Thai, it's still good for pretty much anyone. It has a lot of not so ethnic choices such as smoothies and salads. This is a good place where you won't spend as much money for quality food that's also vegan. read more

What a gem! Great Thai menu where everything is vegan. Started with the seaweed salad that had a ton of cucumber underneath. It was wonderful. The lemongrass tom yum soup with vegan chicken was nice a spicy and tangy and delicious. Could have stopped there and been happy. Ordered the pad Thai also with vegan chicken and it was a huge portion. The lemon juice, crushed peanuts and shoestring carrots mixed in gave it nice citrus and a bit of a crunch. This place is amazing! I've been watching them grow and expand. Food is excellent even if you're not a vegan. Service is superb can't speak to delivery times I've only been in with my family. Family friendly and understanding of my curious toddler. Panang curry is my favorite here, all the vegetables are fresh and crisp I've developed serious cravings for this dish :) They've just moved and you can tell that they're working on decor and final look, but that shouldn't deter you from coming here. Love! Love! Love this place! Amazing as usual and open on Christmas Day which made for a perfect feast. Their panang curry with tofu is absolutely perfect. The tempura is extra fluffy and cooked just right. I tried the impossible Jasmine rice for the first time and we gobbled it down. I've also ordered the orange chicken and pad see-ew before and devoured it. Spring rolls, gyoza and fried rice all excellent. Everything at this restaurant is above and beyond. I feel so lucky to have an amazing Chinese and Thai option that is vegan. It's the only place I will go to in Chicago for this type of food. read more

I had an hour to kill in the area and stopped in for a quick lunch. I had the yellow curry with soy chicken lunch combo, which included two small spring rolls, a small salad, and some wild rice. I didn't love the soy chicken and I wish the salad would've had more cucumber/veggies and less lettuce, but otherwise it was a great meal. A solid amount of food and super tasty, tasted just like other yellow curries I've had with meat! Next time, I would get it with tofu instead. read more

This restaurant is remarkable and it''s a shame it's not open later, because it's location is prime and it'd corner the market on late night / drunk cravings. We're not vegan, but regularly eat here, switching up the meat substitutes every time. The mock beef is peppery and tender; the mock chicken is savory and surprisingly pleasant to bite into... and don't get me started about the noodles! Every noodle dish we've had from here is perfection in terms of flavor, texture, and more-than-one-meal portion size. I had a tough time deciding between four and five stars. The big plus is that everything is vegan, which makes ordering easier if you have some dietary restrictions. It's so nice to have more than the usual two or three choices that you might have somewhere else. The food is good, but not great, in terms of Thai food. It felt like some spices were missing, so that tips my rating to four stars. Service is great: very effective at handling a high volume without getting stressed out. Has gone down in quality and up in price. First, the delivery driver showed up without any cash. So I had to call the restaurant and pay with credit card even though I specified I would pay in cash. Not the end of the world, but pretty annoying. Then, the food. I've eaten this exact food many, many times. The veggie dumplings were burnt. Still edible, but bothersome since they've always been consistent. The veggie soup tasted strongly of plastic. The spicy noodles were way off. There were hardly any vegetables, and the meatless chicken which used to be SO good, was inedible. It used to be cut in slender slices. Today it was in extra-huge lumpy gobs that tasted undercooked. Almost like grissle. I had to spit them out. Overall I was pretty shocked at how poor the food was today, especially considering they raised their prices and send delivery drivers out without any change. I am guessing there are new owners or managers, possibly new cooks. Very inconsistent at best, I'm afraid. read more

I never miss the chicken or steak with their stir fry dishes. The Fried Spring Rolls are really popular and delicious. The Thai Tea is addicting too. I appreciate vegan restaurants that highlight delicious vegetables in lieu of faux meat products. I wouldn't go outta my way, but if you're in the area Urban Vegan is a good option. read more

The boyfriend and I made reservations here on NYE before heading out to an event in the city. I ordered the spicy "chicken" salad, red chili dumplings, and the boyfriend ordered the orange "chicken" with white rice (yes, there is an option for white instead of brown, you just have to ask :) - all for about $32. It's BYOB, and there's a liquor store across the street If you forget! Fair warning: the spicy chicken salad is VERY SPICY, even for us spicy connoisseurs (but delicious nonetheless). Bonus is that you save 10% when you pay cash. Was very impressed with the food and the restaurant itself was bigger than I expected as there is also a room in the back. Only major downfall is that our dumpling appetizer came out after my salad, and my salad came 15 minutes before my boyfriend's food. They seemed to be rather short staffed, but I'm assuming this is a family owned restaurant. Definitely a must if you're in the area and looking for delicious vegan Thai food! read more

I really like this place. Perfect place for tasty vegan food. My boyfriend and I got the grand tempura and spring rolls as appetizers. I will admit that the grand tempera were a bit much for just two people eating. There were 21 pieces. They get you full pretty quick. When ordering make sure to order this as a group. It's always good to eat if you want to save them as leftovers too. Our main entrees were the basil impossible meat and orange chicken. They were very delicious.
