We decided to try Mickey's mainly because of the movie the mighty ducks. Never again. Our pleasure of a waitress looks like she's worked there for 400 years, she spilled my son's dinner on the table and blamed him for reaching for the plate, our meals came out at separate times and took an additional 15 minutes to get. My other son had a spider crawling on him. The waitress was super impatient when taking our order and didn't even wait for us to finish placing our order before walking off which left my child in tears because we had a difficult time getting her attention to add anything to our ticket. My husband called her out on her awful behavior and for not even apologizing for the spilled dinner and she yelled at him saying that my son should not have been reaching for the plate because "you don't do that". She nearly dumped my 3rd son's dinner but he caught the plate. The milkshakes we ordered came out 5-10 minutes after the food finally arrived, we were missing one milkshake and we mentioned it and the cook and her got in a yelling match. Minnesota nice? I have nothing bad to say about the food but I sadly had a very upsetting experience with a staff member Sunday night after a pride celebration. As many people are at pride; my partner and I were dressed in rainbow and had pride related stickers. By no means was our clothing obnoxious or inappropriate. Though one particular staff member decided to comment on our appearance. After several comments about how "stupid and idiotic" it is that all these "queers" are prancing around for something they don't deserve another cook stepped in and told him to leave us alone. For a tasty breakfast it is hard to beat Mickey's. I've been coming in for almost 30 years, so it is about time I jump in to review. This morning was my American Favorite standby. My eggs were right on over easy, crispy bacon and everything steaming, including my raisin toast. This is a little airstream looking diner right in the heart of the city of St. Paul and I had driven by it time and time again and of course wanted to try it. I think I also saw it on one of those food or travel tv shows once. So,,,,one day I told my daughter we are going here to check it out...it was raining its ass off that day and we walked in and bam!!!! your in there with all eyes on you because well, it's an airstream! The locals were funny and enjoyable----the food left a lot to be desired so i would not go there for that...stick to something easy breezy ---coffee was alright---you can watch them make your food--and they use the liquid yellow grease by the ladle there....if that is your thing ---glad I checked it out---but no burning desire to go back. read more

We had breakfast at Mickey's today. We've driven by it a million times and haven't stopped in like ten years. It was surprisingly good. I can't give five stars to any place that doesn't have real maple syrup, but my pancakes were quite nummy. My wife had a patty melt for breakfast which I thought was pretty odd until I tasted it. Its been a few years since I have been at Mickey's and this is probably the first time I have been to Mickeys sober ever! I say this with no shame as I can confidently say that this has to be a favorite after-the-bar closes restaurant for many. This was our third stop of the night this evening and we landed here because my daughter had never been, had heard all about it , and saw it on food network, so we took her for the experience. We were here a little early (around 12:30 AM) so there were not too many drunk patrons yet but we were blessed with a few. We opted to belly up right at the counter to give my daughter the full experience. This place only has like four booths, each with its own miniature juke box, and about 12 little round bar stools at the counter making for a total capacity of less than 30. What we ordered ranged from grilled cheese with bacon, hash browns to burgers to mulligans stew. The stew was homemade and really good. Everyone liked their food. Nothing fancy about the food but you get to watch them cook it at the grill right in front of you. The same people were working there since the last time I went. I asked the waitress how long she had worked there and she said 12 years, cook had been there 27 years, prep cook for five. Yes, its that kind of place where you get up close and personal with everyone. I mean, how can you not as the entire square footage of the place has to be less than 400 square feet. No tips on credit cards, so bring some cash and come to this original one downtown St. Paul to get the real diner experience! read more

It's an original 1937 diner. If you like historical stuff, it's worth going fir that alone. The food was simple and delicious. Service was good. Prices very reasonable. True to early 1900's diners, there's not a lot of seating. But they turn tables over pretty quickly. Enjoy! read more

Nostalgia people, your paying for an experience that was once the norm. The small town feel, a waitress maybe named Flo with an attitude like your meanest n' sweetest aunt, sitting on a bar stool reading the paper you maybe got from the paper boy, kicking the Juke Box so it plays your favorite tune, getting a slice of pie and never turning back, and perhaps even ordering the Blue Plate Special. The food's good, its not great, but it's simply solid standard breakfast fare. However, I go here when I'm in town because 1. It's been in Jingle All the Way and I'm an avid Arnold fan, so I hope he comes crashing in. 2. It's been in Mighty Ducks and I'm hoping Coach Bombay (Emilio Estevez) sits next me and after conversation signs me as to replace Goldberg (the fat Goalie), 3. It's fun!!!! Old school music box, slices of cake in a glass container, greasy burgers, fast and sufficient breakfast, sassy ladies, and the dining car atmosphere is what make Mickey's diner worth visiting. Came here for first time to see what the hype was about. It was after midnite. Hubby and I shared a plate. Only one cook and one waitress. I get it it's a small place so I was hoping the food would compensate for it. Nope it was bland. From what I could see, things are out of frozen bags, nothing homemade. Dirty cooking area. Headed back to Milwaukee from Minneapolis on a Sunday morning and wanted breakfast before we hit the road. We'd gotten a few suggestions for brunch, but as it was negative temps, were more in the mood for filling comfort food, so headed to Mickey's. We weren't the only Badgers/Packers fans in the place and we all received a decent amount of good-natured ribbing for it. The amount of food turned over in the same square footage as the desk I currently sit at is pretty impressive. Is it fancy? Nope. Is it greasy? Absolutely. But it's good and filling and warm and exactly what I thought I would get when I walked in. Big, thick slices of french toast. Large, fluffy pancakes. Thick cut bacon and ham slices. And greasy, delicious potatoes done on the flat top. I left fully and happy and didn't break the bank. Not sure what else I could have asked for. read more

This is a St. Paul classic. A classic greasy spoon (if you are a germaphobe you might find this a cringe worthy experience). It's been open day and night for 70 years. The history of this place is really interesting, and the food is exactly what you would want in a place like this. All day breakfast, burgers, soups, sandwiches, malts/shakes. Aside from the nostalgia factor it was ordinary diner food, the waitress was loud and hurried. Parking lot was full when we got there but when we got back around to it after trying to find a spot their lot was half empty. Before I came to Saint Paul, a friend who is a native told me I *had* to come here. And being one who is highly susceptible to suggestion, I had high expectations. At which point I assumed that I would be disappointed. So I almost didn't want to even try Mickey's, as I assumed that there was no way it would live up to the hype and that I would therefore be disappointed and shouldn't even bother. Well, it turned out that Mickey's was right around the corner from our hotel, and that it was the only decent-looking breakfast place outside of the hotel. And it looked cheap. So we gave it a shot. And I wasn't disappointed. At all. The blueberry pancakes were simply sublime. Fluffy and buttery with loads of blueberries. And they have real maple syrup. And never-ending coffee. Plus, the orange juice was actually quite good, especially for a place that really doesn't look like much. The omlettes are also tasty and fluffy and greasy and good, but I was preoccupied with my pancakes and therefore didn't have as much as I would have otherwise. Plus, it's quite cheap, and really filling (I didn't really need lunch after that). If you're in St. Paul, you really must go. Take my word. read more

I was so impressed by this place. I have lived in MN for 12 years, always seen it, always passed by, never gone, but I sure am glad I did. I am a picky pancake person. They have to be really good for me to get them. Original Pancake House has always been my defacto for great pancakes and typically not many places are as good. However, Mickey's pancakes were just as good. I was blown away. They were moist and very flavorful, I was not expecting it at all. Their hashbrowns are also awesome! I didnt ask how they make them but it looked like they actually make them from cooked potatoes, douse them in butter and fry them until super crispy on either side, leaving the middle a delicious buttery baked potato consistency. Super good and not the traditional hash browns. My wife and two kids made it out of there under $30. So not dirt cheap but we did get a lot of food. I will be back!! read more

Unable to sleep and really hungry, I wandered over to Mickey's at around 4 am. I ordered the "Chuck n Cluck" burger, which is just a burger with a fried egg on top. It was so simple, yet one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The fries were thick cut, but perfectly crispy and airy. Apparently I was hungrier than I thought, so after I wolfed down the burger I had pancakes for desert! They had blueberries everywhere, were the size of a dinner plate, and were slightly crispy on the outside, but soft inside. I finished every bite and left very happy... and went straight to sleep when I got home. Everyone should try this place at least once. read more

I have mixed feelings on Mickey's. On one hand, I know that Mickey's is open all the time and is obviously a good choice late at night when nothing else is open. But given that my first trip to Mickey's was for Brunch, the experience left much to be desired. As soon as you walk in the doors, you know immediately that this is going to be a different kind of dining experience. There is no room to stand (having been built during another era when size 40 pants was a rarity and not the norm) and you eye diners like a hawk looking for an opening to squeeze into. The service is hurried, which I can understand given that there is pretty much only one waiter/waitress for the entire restaurant. Not because the owners are cheap, but because you cannot fit another one in there. The food was pleasantly much better than the building and service led me to believe. Perhaps that is what keeps people coming back and waiting in line at this place. A cute old building can only go so far before people realize they shouldn't wait for mediocre food. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and chili and found both to be very good. I give Mickey's three stars simply because by just eating here you inconvenience yourself. But if you are willing to try something different and dine in a landmark building that has no restroom, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is a land mark to be sure, and I've heard about the treacherous waits that often occur at this teeny-tiny diner, but I have some friends that live nearby so we go at odd hours and never have to wait very long. I'm a veg so I would recommend the pancakes (you just can't go wrong) and the Grilled Cheese, its extra melty and toasted. The place is not for the faint of heart, it's as old and dirty as it looks. But if your in the mood to stomach some real diner food it is a must to visit. PS I had a friend who would order "cakes and cows". He could never decide between the pancakes and the cheeseburger because they were equally delicious. So ... he ordered a cheese burger between 2 pancakes, Ketchup and maple syrup on it all with a side of hash browns. Not only did they make it for him; he actually at it ... all. By far the best breakfast I have ever eaten. I've never had pancakes as good as these and the eggs were solid. It's a tiny little place with a lot flair. I went on a Monday around 11 or 12 and it was packed -- we had to wait a couple minutes for 3 spots to open, but not too long of a wait. The food did not take long at all -- the chef was plowing through the order and we were sitting where you could see everything he was doing. I ate here last night after great waters, which is within walking distance. My friends and I set at the counter and happily ate our breakfast at 2am. I had the one eyed jack, which was so perfect It comes with super crispy hashbrowns. And, they even put extra cheese on top. The only downside is that you can pay with a credit/debit card but you cannot leave a tip on it. So, remember to bring cash if you never have it like me. read more
