Flameburger is the quintessential "dive". So, about 20 years ago my wife and I were out on Thanksgiving and we decided we were hungry. It was Thanksgiving so nothing was open. We saw that FlameBurger was open so we stopped in. It was TERRIBLE. It was so bad that we did not give it a second chance. Fast forward to Christmas 2025...we were out and decided we wanted something to eat...and the only thing open was FlameBurger...we were hesitant...but we decided to give it a try. WOW!!! That's all I can say...what had been a dingy, dirty mess was now a well-lit, clean and vibrant diner. So far, so good...then came the food...it was amazing, hot, fresh and tasty. FlameBurger became an instant favorite...which brings us to our last visit...on Saturday. I ordered The Ranch Breakfast: 2 eggs, ham, 4 pancakes and toast...and the pancakes are not the silver dollar pancakes you get at most places...these fluffy pieces of art bring you back to the days of yesterday when restaurants took pride in their pancakes. We stopped by on a whim and were glad we did. We both had a bacon cheeseburger. My husband had fries and we ordered a stack of pancakes. The burgers were flavorful...and surprisingly didn't leave us with a greasy, bloated feeling. The crinkled fries were good, and we have leftovers for the air fryer tomorrow. The pancakes were like we like them...thin, have a really good flavor. The syrup was spot on. All in all, worth a stop when you're in the mood for a burger or breakfast. The way the flames shoot up when they flip them is fun to watch and you know you're getting something good. They must start with an honest-to-goodness 8oz patty because it was a big burger. (Not sure what kind of bun, although it wasn't the kind that leaves me feeling like a nap.) Burgers were cooked to order; medium was medium and well-done (not mine) was well-done. Two pieces of cheese (as the good Lord intended), real thick slices of bacon. And tons of fries. (Again, good Lord!) Service was great, everyone was friendly. My first time dining here. The burger was absolutely wonderful. Char broiled to medium as requested. My chocolate milkshake was one of the best that I've ever had. My only complaint is the $17.50 price tag. My burger came with grilled onions. If you take a quick glance at the photo, you'd probably not notice any onions on it. The scant amount that is present looks like a grill mark on the bun. But they don't toast the bun, so I assure you that's the onion. Is there a shortage on onions? Stopped by Flameburger, it was pretty busy, per usual. Only my second time here. First time i had breakfast and it was pretty good. This time I had a burger and fries. Food: Made the way I asked, but the burger patty just didn't really have any flavor - must be a MN thing, but once i got to some seasoning.. it was the perfect burger. Their crinkle cut fries were perfect, once i added some salt on them, as well. Service: My server was extremely nice and efficient and top of it. There were ONLY 2 employees there (1 cook and 1 waitress); it was roughly 3am. I had just left a boat cruise in St. Paul. As they finished my food, they were polite enough to let patrons know that it would be about a 30 minute turn around on food, since it was only 2 employees. No one complained or were mad. You gotta respect that type of upfront service and we all know we came for their food and it's apparently worth it. Ambiance: Suuuuper old fashioned looking in there. It looks like some old school dinner. When i think of Flameburger, i think of some up to date spot like Sonics or something. I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover, you'd miss out a good read. One of my nieces wanted me to check this place out, she thought I go for one of the two multi-pound burgers on the menu, the one pound mega, or the three pound ultimate mega. I came here 3 am with my husband we was hungry as hell we usually go to uptown diner but I didn't feel like being there so we yelped and found this joint which is my spot now like wtf why isn't this place on the radio I ordered onion rings I am a fan and they gave me like a footlong plate with a mountain of rings not soggy just crispy and smooth like by far the best I ever had i also had burger and this by far hands down like the chef knows his burgers the malts are the best so for 2 burgers one vanilla malt onion rings and a salad came to $35 it's a lot of food like uptown diner a lot like huge portions we couldn't finish it Service is awesome a lady server was super great friendly the food comes out fast. I stopped into Flameburger with a group of bro's this past weekend. I let the boys choose where to eat because I was down for anything. It was around 2:00am when we got there, so I had a very big appetite. Here's what I gathered: Even this late at night, the place was far from empty. Most of the tables were filled with customers as was the counter (we chose to sit here given our large group). This showed me that this place is both well known and loved. It made me even more eager to try the food. The ambiance is lacking but they work with what they have. The building is outdated, and isn't spick and span, but I did notice one of the cooks wiping down all of the countertop next to me, so they do care about their business. I think it would benefit them to include renovations in their future plans, but hey, maybe they like it the way it is. Most people don't seem to mind. The Easter decorations they had up were darling (I even found a plastic Easter egg right before me, so that was a cute surprise). The waitress who took our orders was a delightful person. Even at 2:00am, she seemed to be on top of things and her energy was very apparent to me. She checked back in on us after meals arrived, and was attentive to our group. I ordered the 5 oz. steak, two eggs, and toast. People who know me, know I don't like toast, so I gave that away to my boyfriend (like always). My boyfriend ordered the Ranch Breakfast ($8.95) and all of his friends opted for their famous Flameburgers. My choice in steak let me down. I wasn't craving a burger, but I couldn't help but think maybe that would've been a better choice. The steak was flavorless. I ordered it well done, and although it was well done, I was not satisfied because it didn't taste like anything. I let my boyfriend try a bite, and he agreed with me. They gave a generous amount, but nothing about the meat had me sold. The hash browns were delicious, and the eggs (sunny side up) were too. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal though as did his friends. The pancakes he got looked hearty and filling. The boys loved the burgers, and I swear they ate them in a heartbeat. They were instantly gone, and once again, I felt like the slowest eater in the history of the universe (I'm ALWAYS the last to finish my food). All in all, Flame burger wasn't bad but I may have to revisit and try one of their burgers since I know that's their specialty. I don't recommend the steak (wasn't worth $9.50), but their hashbrowns made up for it. Although the service was great, one thing did bother me right before we left. A homeless lady came in and sat down next to me. She asked for some water, and our waitress gave her the smallest cup of water. She gave her a cup that you would give to a small child. The water had no ice in it, and she finished the water in a gulp. This broke my heart. I offered to get her more water, but I could tell she was shy, and declined, but thanked me. I felt guilty as I looked at my tall glass of iced water. People should be treated with more courtesy than this. I'm not sure if there was a reason as to why the lady was treated this way, but I left feeling like I should've said something. read more

This is a solid place of you are out and about at 2am looking for greasy goodness served in the form of hash browns and bacon. I've literally only been here in the middle of the night and every time I stop in I order two eggs over easy, bacon, toast, and hash browns extra crispy with grilled onions. Flameburger is extremely consistent so you can count on a good meal every time you come in. The waitresses always have great attitudes no matter the time of day and make you feel like you belong there. It almost feels like walking into the only a diner in a small town. Flameburger is in no way fancy or foodie friendly but it serves some mean breakfast items. Sometimes they have chicken fried steak which is like a million calories of fat and carbs but definitely worth the five minutes or pure heaven when you take the first couple of bites. I visit this place usually in the evenings with friends when we have the munchies and everywhere else (save a sub par Sonic or McD's) is closed. The Ranch Breakfast is the best bang for your buck breakfast to order on the menu. Do not pass up those hash browns, extra crispy is how I like mine. For burgers, you really can't go wrong with any of them. They cook your burger to your preference and serve it with some great fries. I usually get a side of onion rings with mine because they always give you a massive plateful! Often times, I love coming here and getting a shake and fries. The service here is always good. The waitresses or waiter are always kind and sociable. This is a casual genuine diner that has been the same since the 80's. Recently, I brought my mother here and she hasn't been here in over 30 years and she confirmed that the great service, quality food and set up hasn't changed a bit! I could write a few chapters of stories about this place and it's founders place on Snelling and Larp. (which is now another friends greek place), but I'll stick to one thing. HASH BROWNS. Can't beat em anywhere at any time... period. This little diner has been redone with new interior (but you'ld never know it). A greasy spoon will always look and smell like a greasy spoon. I took a mega pastor here for breakfast one morning and when I said it will be the best you've ever had but be sure to wipe your silverware, he burst out laughing. Yes, you might have to rewipe your table from the prev. butter spilled, but for 24hr. breakfasts.. like described above (which is called a Flameburger Platter and Platter JR), It doesn't get better and I've eaten at most truckstops from San Diego to Maine. Truck Drivers know the Flameburger:) All my children were served the "mickey cake" as kids ( a three pancake mickey mouse looking cake with whipped cream for eyes and mouth.) This is your typical greasy spoon, and there's nothing wrong with that! I've never been disappointed and always leave with a doggy bag. Food cooked on an open grill, classic burger fare and mountains of decent fries. It's easy on the wallet, and easy on the ambiance but if you came here for ambiance you're new to this planet. We live close by so we stop in once a month or so... Would we go out of our way to eat here? No... but only because there are so many similar diners on every block.
