It's not fair! Every time my computer needs something right away I'm forced to drive from Westminster all the way down to Micro Center and I feel a temper tantrum coming on. Instead of throwing myself on the ground in order to thrash about while screaming, I throw myself in the car and point it south. Some of you may remember the old days (about 10 years ago). We had lots of places to buy computer parts and electronics. I used to go to CompUSA all the time. Remember Computer City? Hardly anyone had a computer and there were stores for computer parts all over the place. Now everyone has a computer and the Denver metro area has one store for this kind of stuff. How does that make sense? I feel a tantrum coming on! But sometimes they have you over a barrel and you have to go. When you get there you find lots of other poor souls in your predicament no matter what day or time it is. You park far from the door and brace yourself as you walk inside. There are people everywhere and stacks of boxes wherever they will fit. Good luck finding someone to help you. But if you do find someone they are very knowledgeable and you get what you need right away. It's not like Best Buy or other big box stores in that regard -- these people know their stuff. They have all of the necessary items like power supplies, motherboards and memory sticks. But they also have printers, cameras, blank media, and cables. They don't have a big software selection, but you can go to Best Buy for that. If you've actually been enjoying yourself up to this point, prepare to have that squashed. You still need to pay and get out, and that's the challenging part. There is almost always a long line -- the type that they set up at big stores only at Christmas time. Speaking of which, never go to Micro Center anywhere near Christmas. But when you finally get out in the light of day and you have a bag of stuff that you most desperately need it all seems worth it. You get home, plug everything in, and realize that you need something else from Micro Center. At that point, just curl up in a ball on the floor. read more

I love this place, The only place to buy cheaper electronics and computer components is the internet and then you have to pay shipping and don't get the instant gratification of being able to hold your freshly purchased electronics, computer components or upgrades. This isn't like best buy where the people that work there know nothing, they have a very knowledgeable staff so don't be afraid thinking you need technical savy to shop here, the staff is more then able and willing to help. Granted you might get into a overly zealous conversation that last 10 minutes longer then you wanted that you have no idea what was just said but you will get what you need. I have a had great experiences every time I visit Micro Center. I just got a new laptop and the service was amazing. The sales guy was knowledgeable, understood what I needed and sold me what I wanted (not what he thought I should have), and threw in a 3 yr extended warranty b/c the box had been opened. Each visit has left me feeling like these guys know what they are doing. And it's like the department store of electronics. Really. Need a random accessory for your remote - guess who's got it? I tried to purchase a $600 item which required I order on line, and pick up in the store. Their web site illegally assess a county and city tax for a town/county in which I do not live. I should be subject to the state sales tax and special district tax only, which total 4 %, instead of the undefined 7.6% tax. I called their 614 area code number, national call center twice, the first time the operator placed me on hold to investigate and I was eventually disconnected, the second time they answered and hung up. I then called the 303 local Denver area code number published for the store and instead was connected to their national center. The operator told me that I was wrong, as their tax accountants/lawyers would not levy such a tax unless it was to the CO Statue. I know the operator was WRONG, as I have purchased appliances across county/city lines and not subject to the sales tax. The operator said he could connect me with the Denver store to discuss, and I asked him to do so. He then reneged and refused to connect me to the Denver store. I told him fine, but his actions would be reflected in the customer satisfaction survey I was asked to take at the end of the call. He then disconnected the call. read more

I have had good experiences here. I bought my last desktop computer here about four years ago, and it has been doing really well until about three days ago when the hard drive started to fail. Even so, the machine is still running and gave me enough time to buy a replacement drive and image the existing one. I decided to upgrade both the hard drive and the graphics card today, and it only set me back about $230 for two very high-quality parts. I feel like that's a pretty good deal to keep my computer buzzing along happily for another four years. One of the nice things about this store is that they make custom building so damned easy. You can literally spend as little or as much as you want. The staff here are super helpful. I like how the sales associates wear collared shirts and ties; it makes the store and its products seem more valuable, somehow. The gentleman who helped me find everything was just fantastic - it was almost like having a personal shopper. I told him what I wanted and for what price, and he brought it to me. BUT I had to wait for some inexperienced cashiers who didnt know how to total out customers who were tax exempt. It took almost an hour of just waiting. I was pretty stoked to discover that this Micro Center location was close to my new office, especially after doing mail order with their online store for several years. I was in need of some new hard drive components, and seemed to be able to get everything at great prices that were cheaper than the competition. They were very understanding about the need to return an adapter that didn't work out, and I was able to utilize their tech support department to get a FREE confirmation that an old hard drive was indeed dead, which eliminated having to investigate further adapters to find out for myself.. I'd recommend a visit here, even if you're not buying anything. Computer geeks like myself can go nuts in here with all the do it yourself parts available, and they're also fully stocked with televisions, stereo equipment, and a vast array of Apple products. I mostly buy computer parts online but if I need hardware in a hurry then Micro Center usually has what I need for a reasonable price. I don't like the Mouse and keyboard section so I would still only buy online for those items. But if you need a computer mother board etc and don't want to wait for online delivery then this is the place for you. If you have ever had to deal with the CompUSA employees then this place will be a relief. They actually have people there who know something about what you are buying. I think they are on commission so that part can get annoying but all in all not a bad place. I recommend knowing what you want before you go there. Sometimes they have a hard time finding things lol. I really like the atmosphere of this place....because there is none. There are no pretentious high schoolers in blue shirts asking you EVERY 2 MINUTES if you need help with anything. On the other hand, sometimes help can be a little hard to find. It is also much quieter than the big box stores, which I appreciate. They are on commission, but no one has ever been pushy with me. I've bought a computer and TV from them, and both experiences have been good. Their price on the TV was significantly lower than any other price, including online. They have a plethora of computer components, PCs, MACs, TVs, and video games. The previous reviewer is right about it getting really busy at times. Don't even attempt a visit if Christmas is within 2 months. However, they have recently updated the check-out area, so that may alleviate some of the congestion. read more

There is no Fry's in Denver and Micro Center isn't Fry's. But it's the next best thing. In addition to the typical hardware/software, you can buy all sorts of fairly technical gear for building, maintaining, and cleaning computers. Don't expect to find an oscilloscope or anything, it's PC-specific gear. They have pretty much anything you need whether it's home networking, liquid cooling, case mods, gamer PC's, Macs, XBox, or new or refurbished PC's. The prices aren't bad all things considered. A couple of things to note... Since CompUSA shut down this place has been packed. Friday and Saturday nights are a terrible time to go. Lunch hours during the weekdays can get really busy too. If you're impatient try and go at 10:00 AM or mid-afternoon. The other thing to note is that they have a really good computer book and magazine section. read more

I sought this place out due to some massive computer issues. My computer started shutting down like 5 times a day and I started getting the blue screen of death - YIKES! After some failed attempts at working out some home remedies I decided to bring it to Micro Center. I stood in line thinking I needed to drop it off for a couple days. I was quickly asked by a rep what my issue was and he quickly referenced me to the Tech Center. He told me that sounded like it could be fixed today - I was enthused! I waited for a couple minutes and they started working on my computer diligently. Even though they were closing the man did everything he could to troubleshoot my issues. I ended up staying 5 or so minutes after closing and left with a completely fixed computer free of charge - that was awesome! Overall a great experience and if I have any other computer issues I will be sure to bring my computer back. I was a little put off my some hard up-selling of their Anti-Virus software. I didn't appreciate the comment that the Anti-Virus software I had was crap and then trying to sell me a $100 program. Took my desktop in for a diagnostic test due to numerous issues. The tech opened the case and poked around and kept telling that the problem I was having...shouldn't be a problem. What?..duh, this is why I brought it here. He said just to have a tech do a diagnostic would be 15 days just to get it on the bench. Ridiculous amount of time for that business. Horrible customer service! I was in around Christmas to purchase a laptop for my wife and could not get anyone to help me so I ended up leaving and purchasing one at Best Buy. Tonight we went in with my wife and son because we wanted to purchase a laptop for my son and a wireless printer. We waited around about 30 min. for someone to help us, it never happened. However we watched the manager walk up to the father and daughter next to us and thank them for their purchase and walk right past us, it would of been nice to be acknowledged. Denver needs a Fry's. Until that glorious and far-off day, Microcenter takes care of business. All kinds of business. Hardware, hardware, and, um, hardware is everywhere: laptops, monitors, CPU's, hard drives, video cards, power supplies, cases, motherboards, network gear, digital cameras, screws, drive cables, etc... PC software occupies a few shelves, but not as many as the console games. There's a kickass Mac department, complete with software and knowledgeable salesfolk to answer your questions and find you the right stuff. Almost every tool that a goodly nerd needs can be found on the shelf, including some stuff you probably don't need (twinkly LED flashlights come to mind). CD/DVD media, books, magazines, blah, blah, teleblah. Suffice it to say that this is my first stop when I'm looking for something PC-ish, or even when I've got a few random $$$ to burn; the deals-on-the-table-by-the-door are sometimes too good to pass up. read more

The demise of CompUSA on Colorado Blvd & I-25 created a huge chasm in the local geek-o-rama DIY scene where one could get spot-on advice about a computer part, problem or idea. Micro Center, located in central-south Denver (just north of DTC right near the I-25 and 225 split) is a lot better alternative anyway. Thank Buddha for this place, a solid 4 stars for do-it-your-selfers. But, short of online, it's the best alternative, mostly rated so because it isn't located in the Bay Area (Frye's out there is Super Freak!). If you want to roll your own, this is the place. Only bummer is that it gets annoying when the salesperson helping you slaps a sticker on your item. Reminds me of licking the last piece of pizza in the fridge so you can claim it later. Good selection of parts and systems, from major video, computer, camera systems to the minor (and sometimes obscure). Good selection of monitors, LCTVs, notebooks and mixes of Mac and PC stuff. In terms of prices, you generally get what you pay for. Good specials, great checkout. There's also a twin in MC's online presence. NOTE: Right next door is a disk drive crash recovery place. Pray you don't have to go there (always back up your stuff unless it's online), but it's nice to know where you can attempt this. If you want to stick with getting your computer advice from the pimple-heads at Best Buy or Office Max, well - good luck, sucker. read more

I believe this is the only real computer parts store in the area. That said, their prices are lower on some items than you can buy online. Processors are always $50 cheaper than online, but you must buy in store. Also, most motherboards are $50 when you buy select processors, just make sure you ask the clerk. Some things like video cards aren't as competitive as online, but they gotta make a profit somehow! They seem to have a good selection of items for all sorts of users, for business to gamers, to people that just need cheap parts/systems. I've never been harassed by the staff, and they know their stuff. I asked if they would look into stocking a specific brand of computer case, and turned out they had them in back, so it pays to ask because they don't seem to have everything on the sales floor. I used their online buying program once, items were waiting the second I went into pick them up. They are also excellent when it comes to pricing errors. Bought an item and it rang up more than what it said it was in the shelf. Received it for shelf price plus 10% off due to their error! Not many places go the extra mile like that anymore, and for that they have my business! read more

The store packs a lot into a small space, which makes it a bit cramped and hard to navigate at times. But the do have a ton of stuff with a good selection, and some good deals too. I would avoid going after work (5-7pm), as the lines can take a while. If a Fry's came to town, I'd probably be going there. But this is a pretty good substitute. Micro Center is like a computer nerds wet dream. Aisles on aisles of all sorts of cheap computer goodies to browse and sort through. Places like these make me wish my pockets were infinitely deep! I came in here and basically built my own computer. They make it super easy to order online, pick it up in the store, and then you're off to the races to build. The workers here were definitely friendly and they helped me out a bunch when I was looking at add-ons to my computer build. I actually got one of the laptops that they showed me, which rarely happens to me because I try not to get upsold on stuff. But hey they knew what they were talking about and even had a working model right there for me to try out. Sure, the store itself looks like it's trapped in the 90's. That's all part of the charm in my opinion though. Definitely gonna have this place in mind if I ever need more computer equipment. read more

They've got stuff. Lots of Stuff. Computer-ey, Electronic-ey, Geeky stuff. It's rather like a rummage sale, no order, jam packed shelves, and the help is nonexistent. In fact, I had to stand at the counter up front and be ignored by two separate employees as they walked past me, behind the counter, used their computer, then walked back out, ignoring me again. Finally I *stepped in front of* one of the Drones, and said "Yeah, Hi. Where exactly can I get assistance.?" I kid you not, his answer was "What do you mean?" Sigh... But he did manage to direct me back to the Mac section, and, like seemingly all things Apple-Related, the two workers there were better. Friendly and seemed to have a clue. Sucks that you can't pay for your items back there, though. I had to fight through the Rummage Sale and wait in that line again. But whatever... The prices are definitely right, here, hence the A-OK rating, just be prepared forgo any expectations of service in the big, warehouse, shelf-stacked area, in exchange for those prices. read more

I came out of standing in line 5+ hours for an iPhone with a few new friends, who mentioned going to Micro Center after we all finalized our iPhone purchases. Our friends were waiting to get cases at Micro Center, which unfortunately turned out not to have any, but I'm pleased we found the store. It's similar to CompUSA - very similar - with an authorized Mac retailer. One piece of advise - save your visit for a week day evening, NOT a weekend. If you're into technology (and I'm an aging geek with serious pedigree) then this is your Mecca. Fry's is stacked to the ceiling with everything from office supplies and equipment to cabling to gaming and car audio to build-your-own-PC gear from start to finish. In cities with a Fry's, Microcenter is the backup "slightly older tech" spot, but in metro areas like Denver that Fry's hasn't seen fit to grace with its presence, Microcenter is it. There is no competition. Nobody even in the same zip code. I just wish it were closer than an hour from me, but then again that might be dangerous because I would go broke in a week. read more

It's geek time whenever I make my way to our local Micro Center. To me, it's like walking the aisles of the flea markets of old, but with a high tech attitude. Micro Center rarely disappoints. My needs tend to go to the unusual stuff: An HDMI cable of a certain length, a new wireless keyboard/mouse combo, and SATA/USB docks for my extra notebook hard drives. They seem to have it all. Except for that 1.5' eSATA cable I really wanted. The staff for the most part know what they are talking about, and the coup d'gras is the wait to check out. I like their selection of PC components etc. but I was not impressed with the service I received from one of their employee's. I came in and built a list of PC parts for a full gaming build with an employee there and then went home to do price comparisons and more research on the components I was going to use. After doing some research I came in a second time to buy everything but this time with a tweak to the list. I wanted a different CPU and motherboard deal that I had seen on Micro Center's website. When I brought up the deal to the employee that helped me the second time he told me "How the hell did you get that price when it comes up as a different price on my sale computer". I showed him the advertisement that was on Micro Center's website and he told me that that was not the correct price and that he would not give me the deal. This doesn't make any sense because Micro Center price matches other retailers so how can you not give me the price for a deal that was listed on your own website? It was a ryzen 7 2700x cpu with an x470 mobo. I can't remember the brand or specifics of the motherboard now, it's been a week or two. I was taken back by the employees rude reaction to me showing him the advertisement and refusing to give me the price they had listed on their own site. I bought everything anyways but I did not feel very welcomed as a customer especially someone who's spending over $1,000 in your store. I took my computer into Micro-Center after an unfortunate accident where it landed on concrete. I was phoned 3 days later as promised and told the hard drive would need to be replaced, that a new one was ordered and that it would take 3 days or so to get the part in. After more than 2 weeks, when my backup computer went out, I phoned the center in a panic. This is when I connected with Joseph Torres! Joe is awesome. He immediately rectified the situation and before the day was over, I had my computer back working like new. While things didn't go as they should have, it takes a real professional to step up to the plate, to admit things didn't go as promised and to make things right. Joe Torres did that and MORE! Joe Torres is a professional, a giant amongst customer service people and enough reason for me to continue going to Micro-Center. He is the best! read more

Think of this place is like a scaled-down version of Fry's Electronics, with more of a garage sale feel to it, and an overly aggressive sales staff. Micro Center sells everything related to computers: Books, accessories, monitors, even gadgets like GPS units. Unlike Best Buy, there are no distractions here: no DVD isles, no dishwashers, and few repeat customers who shower regularly. Not only is their selection of new equipment quite good for a brick-and-mortar retail store, but they also sell refurbished computers and components at rock bottom prices. So if you need an obscure keyboard, a cheap bare-bones computer, or a reminder that someone out there has a bigger Unibomber-style beard than you, go to Micro Center. read more

I went to Micro Center to pick up a Solid State Drive for my laptop. I had one that I bought off amazon just over a year ago that was going bad and failing. While I was waiting for the manufacture to work on replacing mine I needed to have something up and working. They had a pretty wide selection available in the store and prices weren't horrible. Sure I could have probably saved a few dollars ordering online and waiting for it to be shipped out. But when you want something now and don't want to wait a few days for shipping this is the place you want to go. read more

I stopped going to MicroCenter for about 3 or 4 years. They had high prices and started carrying lots of low end computers and electronics. Their sales staff also became hard to work with - some were to pushy and others were air heads who didn't know a thing. I also experienced a couple who wouldn't help people even though they were clearly not doing anything else. Anyways, I've started coming back to MicroCenter. Truthfully, I still dislike 2/3 of the sales staff; but the place has changed a bit. They now carry more stuff again, prices are competitive with online retailers, and being able to order online and pickup in-store is awesome. The 4/5 review is for store pickup - it means I don't have to wait 40 minutes for a sales person to get me something and another 20 minutes at checkout. I took a star off because they messed up on an online order once. If I had to deal with the sales people or hypocritical managers (yes, I have stories); I'd be giving Microcenter a 1/5 review. read more

've been looking for a wireless router and finally settled on the D-Link (DIR-605L). As I Google looking for the lowest price, Micro Center blew everyone away by far (retail = $50, on sale for $29). I placed the order through their site and decided to do a 'pickup', On the order screen, it recommended the buyer not show up to the store until you receive a confirmation. Well, 10 minutes later, a confirmation came. So off I went to the store and was amazed. This is the "Target" of the geek world. Every little gadget and/or part can probably be found here. In addition to laptops/TV's etc, there's a section called BYOC (build you own computer) where you can assemble your own equipment. Routers, ethernet, cables, cleaners, speakers...your head is spinning after 10 minutes. At any rate, I went to the special counter for web orders and got my package. The cashier was friendly. I've always received OUTSTANDING sales, technical support, and general assistance from Denver/DTC Micro Center store on a wide range of my computer & printer needs throughout the years. But the SUPERB technical computer & printer "troubleshooting" that I received from Chip C. today was a HUGE help to me. Chip quickly & patiently diagnosed and solved my horrible printing problem in an emergency when I had very little time to wait for a computer geek to solve my complex printing problem. Just when I REALLY needed to print some very important documents today, my printer refused to print any more documents. By the time I called Micro Center, I was very upset after having made many attempts to solve the printing problem myself (e.g. ran diagnostic & troubleshooting checks on my computer, followed Microsoft's PC community advice).
